I used these guys last-minute. That is why they get one star - they showed up on time. They did not disclose their rate ahead of time. Two men showed up and I only needed their labor - they did not bring packing materials, they worked at a snail's pace, and they do not have insurance. I have a broken lamp, a damaged custom table, and I packed most of my apartment myself. They took almost 3.15 hours (charged me for 3.5) to move a one-bedroom apartment with a king-sized bed, one sectional, one kitchen table, some artwork, and everything else boxed up. My father and I helped the entire time. He tried to charge me $410 and I got him down to $360. Steer clear of these guys at all costs- they have no idea how to pack a truck, they don't work with urgency, they don't have insurance, and they didn't wrap anything I own except a $6,000 custom table, which they still damaged. They also broke a lamp, which I caught him doing, and he did not acknowledge it or apologize. read more

First off, I am writing this review because the company tried to discredit my wife's review because she was not present for the move. I am the person who was present for the move. When they acknowledge the inaccuracies in their response to my wife's review, I will delete her review. Multiple inaccuracies are present in his response as he said he offered 2 hours to come out to fix the poor packing, when he actually offered only 1 hour (we have this in email), he claimed that we did not have tie downs, when we had at least 12, plus bungee cables and moving blankets. Lastly, instead of replying to my wife's email in regards to the displeasure, they decided to respond to her here, on a public forum. We requested help moving our items from our home into a few pods in our driveway. We had 4 pods present (1 was already filled by myself prior), I told them our goal was to try to fill an additional 2 pods first and only relying on the last as needed. Near the beginning, the movers feIt as though the additional 3 pods would be needed for fitting all of the items, and this was no issue by me, as we had the space to accommodate if needed. I acknowledge that the movers did a pretty good job of packing the first 2 pods, it is the packing of the 3rd pod that became a problem. Please see the attached posted photo of what the last pod looked like. Prior to the move, we never talked about the length of time that would be needed, we only committed to at least 2 hours. I was helping move boxes throughout the move because I am a physically capable person. They did a good job of moving the previously wrapped heavy items outside carefully. However, once we got to loading the 3rd pod and all remaining items were in the driveway, the leader of the crew was standing on the entrance of the pod asking me which items were the priority. When the packing got to the point of the microwave being placed upside down, on top of a fabric chair with no protection and no straps, is when I told the movers they could leave and I could handle the rest. At this point the pod was in the state of the picture below, as well as multiple items still not being packed. After they left, I was able to rearrange all items in the last pod plus all of the remaining items that were left and finished the packing with the help of my wife. The main concern with this company is that it was deemed to be ok to throw items on top of each other, unsecured. I understand packing well takes time, but the movers did not seem to me like they were interested in packing the last pod well, but rather packing it quickly, so that is why I asked them to leave at the 2 hour time mark. If at any time the movers had said to me that if you want to fit all of the remaining items into the pod properly secured, this would take X amount of time, I would have been ok with them continuing the work to pack it correctly, however it did not seem as though they cared about the well being of my belongings before a cross country move. read more

Response: Messaged My Great Movers this morning when we last minute needed some help getting large furniture up stairs to a two story apartment. Adam was quick to reply and very accommodating; since I only needed help unloading I requested for just an hour of help and he was able to do so. (Some moving companies require a two hour minimum) He also checked in after the move to make sure everything went okay. Availability: I had difficulty trying to book movers last minute (my fault for being too lazy to do it beforehand) but Adam was able to squeeze me in on a Saturday afternoon. Great for last minute people like me! Price: This may be the only issue I had as the price is more expensive than others - $120 for an hour. And even though we didn't use up the entire hour they still charged us for an hour. (I guess that's fair though because that is the rate Adam and I had agreed upon prior) it's not a bad price but there are definitely cheaper movers out there. (You just can't wait till last minute like I did because they will all be booked) Service: 5/5 Jim and Reuben were kind,attentive and quick. They were able to get everything upstairs in less than an hour. This company should receive five stars because they were both incredibly professional (came exactly on time) and careful with fragile items. They also wanted to make sure everything was put in the right place with no damage. We had some really difficult to move furniture pieces that were almost broken and falling apart and they were able to bring those up in one piece! read more

Received an email about an hour into the move that I had non standard items. A peloton bike, a king sized beauty rest mattress, and two lazy boy couches. They also specified weights but I then told them not to move the two (2) dumbbells as I would move them if it was a big deal. At no time did the movers communicate any of this directly to me, I had to check my email - it was very bizarre given I was present and available to the movers. Also I was not told what the upcharge would be because of these "non standard items" just that there would be one. Then to top it off an hour before the move finishes I received another email, that their pay system is down and to please pay the movers directly in cash. At this time I was not given a total or told what the additional charges were. But given atm limits and it being a bank holiday how did they simply expect me to make the cash appear. I had to go to the atm with the movers and could not withdraw the full amount as it exceeded the atm limit and after several awkward minutes (with the impression being I had to pay them in cash now) I ended up being able to Venmo the remainder to one of the movers friends. I was charged essentially another 100$ extra each hour of the 5 hour move because of the "non-standard items". These items were moved before without issue and were not classified differently. I would recommend you consider using a more standardized service such as two men and a truck which provide less surprises and actual invoices to show what and how you are charged. I'm really surprised by the amount of good reviews here based on my experience. read more

So incredibly bad that I do not know where to start. So, lets just do this in a list format -- easier to do and a lot more precise. I should note, I have done a few huge moves before and I know what a good move and what a bad move is. I have hired my fair share of movers too and these guys were easily the worst I have contracted with. However, this might be a lot to read -- so, I will summarize: Avoid, Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. 1. They are supposed to show up at 8:30 am. No show at 9 am. Call owner and he says they are on their way. Be there in 30 min (9:30 am). 10:30 rolls around and still no show. I call back and get a VM. I leave a message and a few minutes later the movers call me back. They say they will be there in 30 min -- had car trouble. They arrive at 11am (2.5 hours late). Turns out the owner *lied* when he told me they were running late. There weren't any movers because they had forgotten (see #2). Keep it classy "My Great Movers" 2. But something is amiss, its just two college guys with no moving equipment, a dolly, blankets, gloves or anything else you might need on a move. Turns out they are *not* the real movers. The real movers did not show and the owner just called two college students he knew. They told this to the trucker who was hauling our stuff. 3. Then the move starts and they are beyond bad. The truck driver keeps shaking his head and tells me they are packing it wrong. That there is no way everything will fit if they keep this up. Turns out he was right and I had to leave stuff behind. The movers on the other end (who did the unload) cannot believe how badly the truck is packed. 4. They are not careful and drop things/ignore fragile/this way up markings. 5. They drop my fridge -- claiming its impossible to move. Despite the fact they had an appliance dolly (we borrowed it from the truck driver) and that at some point it was moved into the house. On the other end of the move, the fridge is moved by one person with a normal dolly. The bad movers had 4 people (themselves and the trucker/truckers friend) and they still dropped it. So my 6 month old stainless steel fridge looks a few years old now. Thanks guys! 6. They are lazy -- they sit around and do nothing unless I prompt them to actually move stuff. They don't get the concept that a move is an ongoing thing. Did I mention that the trucker had more stops that day and we had a 4 hour time window (didn't meet that -- or even come close). 7. I became the third mover -- I worked harder and better than them -- despite the fact that I have had back surgery and I am not allowed to do this kind of work. So lets get this straight: People hire movers so they do not have to do it themselves. In this case I had the privilege of paying hundreds of dollars and still doing the move myself. I must have the word sucker on my forehead. 8. I had to leave stuff behind because of their ineptness. Not just a couple of things. I am talking tables, a nice grill and nice lawn furniture. The real beauty is that they suddenly would only take cash. No CC or check -- makes sense, they knew it was a bad move and did not want a charge back. Class act. This move was the equivalent of inviting over 2 friends who owe you a favor (but don't want to do it) and having them help you move. At the end you are left with broken items, a destroyed back and strained relationships. In this case, their was no relationship to worry about but they did manage to break a Tiffany lamp (this way up evidently means, put it on its side). So look elsewhere and be thankful you did. Then again, if you feel like you need to be punished for something then hire these guys. Its not quite hell but its definitely a shade of purgatory. Oh yelp, why have you forsaken me. Seriously, more and more "great" reviews are becoming unreliable. Perhaps the business model is: 1. Do great work and get great reviews 2. Slack off 3. Profit. Sure seems that this is the case here. Stay away. We moved with my great movers from Mountain view to San Mateo and had a terrible experience. To start with they were late and overall inefficient. But the worst is they assembled our one year old king bed all wrong (pics attached) and put a heavy mattress on it. The mattress went down in the middle of the night causing me. We moved on Saturday July 18th and this happened on July 18th night. When we called them on Sunday morning, they scheduled an "investigation". The guys who moved us came back to our home to investigate. They decided the bed had been dragged (which it was not) after being assembled causing it to break. They were very rude when they did the investigation making the overall experience very sour. We sent the management pictures of the frame, no drag marks on the carpet but they decided to believe their guys' story. To sum up:- 1. Broken bed, blatantly blamed on us. No refund, no apologies. 2.They charged us $980 for three guys to move from one two bedroom apartment to another, 20 miles. I do not think this is very cheap. We and a couple of other friends were constantly working alongside to make it a 7 hour move. If we had not helped, it would have been a ten hour move. One guy n particular was a slacker. 2. Things happen during a move but I would expect as business they have some integrity and take responsibility. There were on time and wrapped our dresser, bed, and bookshelf in a protective plastic wrap so our things wouldn't get scratched. I used My Great Movers service this past weekend and they were fantastic! Not only did they show up on time, but they were extremely professional and helpful. I bought a very large, very heavy table on Craigslist and needed to find a way to move it from Walnut Creek up to my second floor flat in SF. My Great Movers did the job spectacularly and for an unheard of price! So happy I googled them and hired them. What was turning into such a headache figuring out how to move an 8ft dining table across the Bay and then through a narrow doorway and up a flight of stairs was completely put to ease with their services. I would suggest using them for anyone who is moving houses, buying furniture off Craigslist or need any other hauling or moving. I requested quotes from a few companies to move a few pieces of furniture and mattresses (not a whole house), and many companies required 3 hour minimum. My Great Movers required 2 hours but higher hourly rates ($99 vs $120). I really didn't think I needed more than 2 hours, but ended up using 2.5 hours and paid $300. So, I did end up paying the same price as the 3 hour minimum company for 2.5 hours of work. I guess I underestimated how long it would take to move. Working with Adam to schedule and paying the initial deposit was simple and straightforward. Jimmy and Alfredo helped me move and they were great. Very nice guys. They came into the house, I showed them everything and they got to work. I would ask for them again if I have future minor moving needs. Moving is hard work! I didn't even ask for the cost because I was escaping a domestic violence situation. There were 4 sheriffs at the house and they wouldn't let me tell the movers what to do for almost an hour while I was crying and being questioned. The guys were awesome through all of this. Because of the tenuous situation and late hour, I had to let the County Animal shelter take my dogs. The police wanted me to see a doctor to ensure I was ok. The guys in the truck said they were very sorry and were worried about my dogs. Kind, gentle and thoughtful. I wish I could charge the police for the extra costs because I don't have the money. They are not professional at all. First they sent me a smaller truck even after I emailed them and left them a voicemail telling them to send a bigger truck. Then the guys showed up 30 mins late with no one picking up the call. The guys work slowly, took two trips to move things instead of one ( this itself cost me 30 mins = 50 dollars). Then they misplaced screws of the bed and waster a good 30-40 mins in that. I ended up paying 500 dollars for a 2 mile move. The guy negotiated a price which I paid then calls me back with a story about how he did not count properly and his boss is charging him money. My Great Movers helped with my follow-up move and unfortunately the results weren't as good as my first experience. There were a few tricky pieces in the move to my new place and they ended up damaging parts of the house (scrapes on paint, damage to baseboards, scratches on walls, etc.). :( Kind of disappointing. I think it was because they were in a pretty big hurry due to a scheduling conflict. I stand by what I said before though -- Adam and John and great guys, friendly, and hard working. I was planning on getting day laborers from the local U-haul station to help me and my friends move into a 5 bedroom house, but at the last minute I decided to get professional help. I found them on Craigslist and called them at 9am and they were here by 2pm on the same day. Boy am I glad I paid a little more for professional help. We didn't need a truck so they just sent two guys to help us load and unload our U-haul. The two guys (Adam and Francis) were AWESOME. They were average size but insanely strong and very skilled movers. They've been doing this for 3 years, so they know how to move things really well. I was very impressed with how quickly, efficiently, and carefully they moved all our stuff into the house. There were two sets of winding stairs in the house and they tackled them without hesitating. Overall these guys were awesome. They're strong, skilled, super nice, and were only 60/hr for the two of them (with no truck). We had them for 5.5 hours and they didn't complain or get tired. We just returned back to the USA and moved to Palo Alto for Buenos Aires, Argentina. After finding wonderful deals on Craigslist, we needed to pick up our treasures and move them into our new home. I called "My Great Movers" from an ad on Craigslist and Adam answered the phone. I could tell from his manners on the phone that he was very professional. They offer both flat-rate and hourly-rate options for a move. Their prices were very reasonable. I selected the flat-rate option and schedule the move. Adam and Francis showed up at our 1st stop with a truck and wrapped our "new" bedroom setup in green plastic cellophane before loading the pieces into their truck. I was impressed. The rest of the trip went the same way. They handle our furniture with care (as if it was theirs). Some of our new treasures were heavy (very heavy), but the 2 guys handled them with ease in a careful manner. They knew when to use the dolly and when to human strength was needed. At the end of the day our new home was filled with our beautiful "new" furniture. Moving is never fun, but Adam and Francis make it easy. They are professional, smart, and careful movers. The guys at Mygrate Movers worked tirelessly and very hard to get our very complex move done. They ended the day by hauling our huge and heavy couch over our balcony, and moved our 400+ pound 4-group espresso machine up 27 stairs without a complaint -- I was worried we'd need a special moving company just to work with it. Well let's start to say that due to an extensive remodel, I have moved 3 times in the last year. I called My Great Movers last minute after finding my current moving company was being sued for holding peoples furniture hostage and had really bad experience with other movers. This is the third time I used them and the largest move. They did two small moves and were great to deal with. They showed up 1.5 hrs late due to traffic, but kept me informed along the way. That was the only hiccup all day. I was pretty well organized and they worked hard the whole time, were very professional and a pleasure to work with. They got everything done, even taking apart and moving some very large pieces of furniture. They completed everything with no drama, a sense of humor, in great time and for an excellent value. I had a great experience with these guys. They were two guys who were quite young, and extremely on top of it-- energetic, courteous, sane, efficient, articulate, intelligent, and also tech savvy, responding to communications promptly, clearly, and flexibly. These things mattered a lot to me because I felt like I could trust them to address, respond to any concerns that might arise. Another great feature of these guys is that they have excellent communication with _each other_-- They were clearly extremely used to working as a team and coordinating, and when they're carrying your valuables, that means you don't have to worry about bumbling and bumping into things. They didn't just lift, they problem solved. Lastly, they have the best rate in the area. I needed a simple move of a few large items at the last minute, and went hell trying to call a dozen movers around the bay. They all either wanted to charge me for a minimum of 2-3 hours, or waffled and refused to give a commitment. My Great Movers were prompt, responsive, clear, and very fair. I had bought a china cabinet off of craigslist and emailed several people to pick up the cabinet and deliver it to my apartment. They were the only ones who finally agreed to move it for me as the china cabinet was a rather large one and in one piece. They replied fast and picked/delivered it up only couple days after I had emailed them. i have to tell you that my apartment is on El Camino with a VERY narrow driveway, and the entrance door and stairs are VERY tiny, but surprisingly they did not complain at all about how difficult it was going to be to move a HUGE one piece china cabinet up two VERY tiny flights. Let's just say I was in awe! PRO's: efficient, professional, cooperative, pricing (call or email them for a free quote) CON's: can not think of any PS.
