I'm always trying to find a good Chinese food restaurant having been born and raised in SF where such things are plentiful. This gets five stars because it has some dishes that are quite different from the standard fare. The set and pepper fish as well as the clay pot roast duck with fried tofu were excellent. We were disappointed in the BBQ Pork Fun as the pork was chopped up and I think it would be more flavorful sliced. The wait staff was attentive and efficient. There was literally 1 piece of overcooked shrimp in the rice roll. Everything was bland and flavorless. I honestly don't normally mind Chinese places with low ratings on Yelp and DoorDash - being Chinese myself - but please pay attention to the bad ratings on here. Tried this place for the first time today, the woman at service counter was polite and their rice plates are surprisingly cheap for their portion sizes! I got the minced pork over rice with steam buns, and a milk tea and ooohh boy, the milk tea is so smooth and creamy, and the minced pork plate was so savory and flavorful. The pork buns were also nice and soft and warm. Delicious And the dining area is pretty roomy - I got it to take out for today but I definitely want to return to dine-in! read more

Double check the price for dishes you order before paying, then be prepared to pay what they charge versus what's listed on the menu. We had meals at N'Joy quite a few times,, even have their frequent diner card. The service is usually good. Food is ok and portion isn't generous. But it's nearby. Today I experienced their "bait and switch" tactic. Today I went in to order food to-go. The two menus posted by the front register shows $5.75 for an order of crispy tofu and yet they charged $7.50. I pointed out to the waitress taking the order, she didn't believe me. I pointed to the menu that's posted again, she then asked another waiter in Chinese why the menu wasn't updated. After that she just ignored me and started talking to another customer. I asked if she's going to honor the price that's posted, she made a face and said no. I told her that it's illegal to do so in addition to bad customer experiences. She simply ignored me, and did not take down the menu with the old pricing. Needless to say I left without ordering and will never return. There are many good Chinese restaurants around and do not practice the bait and switch tactic in pricing. read more

This is the place to go for noodles! I could not believe how surprised I was by Joy Cafe's rice noodles. I love Chow Fun and Chong Fun too. However, I am frequently disappointed by the consitency of the cooked noodle. I was absolutely wowed by the perfect cooked noodles! Also substitutions from the menu selections are acceptable. I've been coming here since they first open and I honestly feel like the food quality now has gotten worse compared to before. Roast bbq pork is not crispy nor sweet enough. 12/23 - I bought take out and ordered half roast duck, half Marinated Chicken in Chef's Special Sauce and their Deep Fried Squid. I was reading other reviews and I was reluctant to buy from them. My boyfriend insisted we do take out on these particular dishes. The two poultry dishes actually were a pretty good size of food. The deep fried squid could probably feed two people. Duck maybe three to four people and the Chicken the same. So the portions were good for the dishes we ordered. This is a brand new spot for Chinese food. It has a modern take on its restaurant and the way you buy food. I haven't dined in yet. Not quite sure if you pay first before you eat or you sit down and then order like with waited help. Wife and I ordered seafood chow fun, beef braised and wonton noodle and popcorn chicken. 1st: we didn't get any utensils or condiments, we had to keep asking for utensils.. two of us and they gave us one set of chop sticks.. overall not well prepared for customers who dine-in. It's not even packed but lack of readiness 2nd: food: can't complain on the popcorn chicken, seasoned well. The Rockies for both the noodle and chow fun was overpriced. Not enough. But maybe because I was expecting it to be great since my co-workers have been raving about it. Chow fun had some char from the wok but missing flavors it still felt bland. Needed more onions or green onions and pepper or something... the noodle was okay. Nothing to brag about... Elk Grove has limited Asian options but I would prefer going to Rose palace for the chow fun... 3rd service: the girl was nice and courteous , just the lack of readiness in the table. I let the waitress know that we got a wrong chow fun when we paid. Didn't mean to argue with her or try to get any discount. They need to change chow fun price that they had served. I'm Chinese and I'm picky with my Chinese food. N'Joy is the closest to authentic Chinese food I've had in Elk Grove and it really reminds me of my family's cooking! I really loved the bbq delicacy platter with pork and duck, chicken chow fun, beef chow fun (gravy style), and the rice rolls with shrimp, duck, and pork. The duck and pork tasted *chef's kiss as well as the dipping sauce that came with the duck. The chow fun tasted how authentic chow fun should taste with perfectly textured fat wide noodles and the right amount of flavor. I asked for the dry style for chicken chow fun and gravy style for the beef chow fun and for it to be spicy. The heat was perfect and fresh chili peppers were used. I ordered the Boba milk tea and Chow fun with scramble eggs and shrimps today, both tasted so good, the milk tea was not too sweet, I really like it!!! Really enjoyed my noodle dishes tonight! We ordered the chow mein w bean sprouts and soy sauce, and the chow fun with eggs and beef. The servings were good for the price, considering every place is increasing their prices. The chow mein was exactly what I was craving--perfectly cooked. The chow fun was good as well, I would have preferred if it was a little more flavorful. The only thing I wish they had was chili oil. We requested chili oil, but got sriracha instead. After reading reviews about this place, I was hesitant to try it. I'm glad I did though. The food was good, but a bit on the pricey side. I believe the star of the show was the roasted duck. It was perfectly juicy, and tender. The service was amazing besides the party trays that I ordered not being done on time. Placed an order at 1 pm , then they call me saying that my order was going to be ready 10 mins earlier than the pick up time. Arrived exactly at 1 to find out that I had to wait 15 more mins for the trays to be ready. Overall, I would probably come here again to try more dishes. read more

Stopped by for a couple snacks-- the shrimp rice noodle and basil popcorn chicken. Texture-wise, both were really good; the rice noodle and shrimp were juicy/chewy (not mushy) and even had some bean sprouts/green onion for some fresh crispness. The popcorn chicken had a nice rice flour crispiness. The flavors were alright for what they were. There was definitely deep fried basil with the popcorn chicken and a lot of black pepper. A very light sauce came with the rice noodle that gave some flavor but not a lot. But all in all, the rice noodle with shrimp was very refreshing and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. I'll come back for the more rice noodle for the texture but might try adding an egg or more flavorful meats like the duck or beef on the side. For takeout on a weekday, it was only about a 10-15 minute wait for my food. I saw a lot of people come in and pickup their online orders so I highly suggest that if you want take out; the small waiting area is only one bench wide and it did get a lot of in and out traffic. First time I had actually went inside and sat down to eat rather than just ordered. When we walked in me and my father had to ask around in order to get seated. We got the beef chow fun and mongolian chicken over rice. Both came out pretty quick and were delicious. The beef chow fun had a great ratio of noodle, bean sprout and beef. The mongolian chicken wasn't necessarily over rice but the flavor was great. Overall I'd say it's a tad bit pricey for the portion size you get but it's definitely filling. Wouldn't mind coming back here someday to try more dishes on the menu. read more

Although the restaurant just opened, it is really busy and understaffed. The servers look like they're really hustling to tend to the customers, but they were not adhering to the waitlist. There was a pushy customer that came in after us that was really persistent in getting seated and made sure to bother the waitress until she sat their party. A lot of others on the waitlist was really confused as to what was happening and spoke up. The restaurant is a Hong Kong style cafe which like a lot of others has a huge menu that includes tea, smoothies, and boba. We got the steam roll, chow fun, and mapo tofu. The mapo tofu was really flavorful and goes great with a side of rice. The chow fun was very oily and not too salty. It definitely needed a little spice to it. Personally, I believe the steam roll isn't really worth it because it was pretty much a plain steam roll sprinkled with green onion and a few bits of char siu. read more

Ordered few items: Singapore chow fun, the beef plate , beef chow fun, sizzling black bean sauce dish ( forget the names) Food was okay. The Singapore chow fun was good. Beef plate had bigger chunks of meat which was nice. Food is pricey compared to other places. Portions aren't huge. Came back a second time to try there duck. Pretty fresh, but nothing to rave about.
