This is a cute Korean fusion brunch spot in West Covina! I'm not sure when it opened, but it's a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The interior is clean, cute and relaxing. Menu has a variety of options like avocado and French toasts, burritos, and more traditional Korean dishes like dweji gomtang (Korean pork soup). I came wanting to try the jang-jorim (braised beef brisket) burrito. However, since I had an upset stomach earlier in the day, I ended up getting the dweji gomtang. It came as a cute little set with rice, kimchi and cucumbers. The soup was comforting, but the pork was bland. It worked out for my stomach that day though, since that's what I was looking for. My friend had the kimchi pancake, which was also good. I only ate a bit of the outer section, but my friend said towards the middle it tasted a little undercooked. Service was friendly. However, no one came by after the food came out to check on us, and we waited a while to get the check. I finally went up to the front to take care of the bill. Overall though, it's a cute spot, and I'd come back to try some of the other items! read more

Not the kind of food you would expect at a Korean restaurant. This is the first time my wife and I are eating at that shopping center. We were first attracted by the food court style of operation at Heaven City Market right next to the supermarket, but after walking through all the joints there none of them impressed us. Finally we decided to try out Namu. We don't eat out often and my wife is very picky on choosing a new restaurant but I usually have good faith on reviews at Yelp and I'm glad we made the right decision. We found ourselves in West Covina and read the reviews for Namu Kitchen - someone said they started coming here even when they were nowhere near the area bc they loved the food that much. They were right! The food is delicious - the matchas are great - and the vibes are perfectly chill. This place is in a shopping center filled with great food - I'd definitely recommend starting here and then wandering around after. Wanted to try a Korean fusion restaurant and bumped into this spot. Went on a Saturday right before noon and glad we did as the place got busier nearing lunch hours. The place is clean, imbibing the modern interior design of natural to brown tones. Love the touch of real flowers on each table. Here we tried braised beef burrito, chicken friend chicken and Korean fried chicken. Although, the braised beef burrito was on the sweeter side which I wasnt much of a fan of but definitely enjoyed every bite. This place is a must try if you're ever in the area. I drove just to try this place and would do it again! I got the kimchi jiggae & kimchi pancake. It was the best soup and pancake I've ever had. The jiggae was savory, flavorful, and the meat was perfectly cooked. It's perfect for a cold day and the purple rice on the side is an amazing touch. The kimchi pancake omg it was perfect. Decided to stop by for lunch on a weekday. Parking is super easy since the restaurant is located in a pretty big plaza. The inside is warm, home-y, and welcoming. Service was prompt and attentive. Got the braised beef with rice, hojicha latte, and pork soup. The food was comforting and flavorful! What a great place! Everything about it was fantastic. To start the ambiance was very cozy and comfortable but also chic. The service was so good! Friendly, fast, and they actually kept taking all the dirty plates from my table with makes the biggest difference to truly enjoy the meal. Then came the food and wow! After hearing about this place being a Korean fusion, we were immediately interested. We were seated pretty quickly, and ordered a jang-jorim rice plate and burrito. The food came out a bit slowly, but it was busy and not an unreasonable wait. Service was excellent here and the place was full of family and friends enjoying themselves. The rice plate and burrito were simply amazing. Very flavorful, excellent portions, and a super enjoyable meal. The braised beef had a savory and lean texture that complemented the rice / tortilla very well, and the additional ingredients made a great balance within each dish. We asked for some recommendations and decided on the Jangjorim breakfast burrito and the Korean fried chicken. Along with some drinks. The food portions were very good and taste was fresh and tasty. There was a good amount of meat, eggs, tater tots along with their aioli which was well balanced. Their fried chicken was amazing and something you would expect from a famous Korean chicken place! Their coffee and drink options were unique here too and I heard they only sell coffee/drinks after 3:30pm. So apparently this restaurant becomes a spot to work and study in the afternoon. Paired along with some perfectly crispy kale and a regular salad side. They had 3 options for jam with the toast, I went with mango opposed to blueberry or peach jam. Some strawberries and blueberries to finish off and i left feeling satisfied as I got a little bit of everything you'd need in a brunch dish. The plating and presentation are on point but let me tell you what we got. We started off with the mushroom toast that came with a spread of ricotta and Parmesan and a huge side salad which wasn't bad. Then came the bowls! First up was the Jang-Jorim over rice with shishito peppers and this was delicious and amazing. came for a late lunch and it was still filled with diners. we waited a few minutes since a table was leaving. it has a homey, yet modern feel to the space. hubs ordered the jangjorim rice and hazelnut latte. he really enjoyed the latte since it was strong. rice bowl was super flavorful and came packed with brussel sprouts, onions/red pepper stir fry, seasoned egg, purple rice, and fried lotus chips. super well-balanced bowl and big portions. even though it was 100+ degrees, i decided to order the pork soup. it came with a bowl of purple rice (love!), a small side of cabbage kimchi and cucumber kimchi, and a vinegar-based sauce for the pork. the soup really hit the spot and was super homey and comforting. we had leftovers (still delicious the next day!) and we can't wait to be back to try more of the "brunch"-y items. would love to see seasonal items added to the menu or even more fusion dishes. parking will be hard to find once the food hall opens, so take caution and go often now! read more

Came here a little past their time to stay open. they close at 3:30 but I did not know considering the door was unlock and I didn't look up the time but nonetheless my boyfriend and I were warmly greeted upon and asked if we were dining in or takeout. But we only wanted drinks , I ordered the strawberry matcha latte with oat milk and my boyfriend ordered an earl grey espresso (double shot for any of their espressos I believe) and we both enjoyed our drink very much. Found out about this place through a friend and decided to come here for Mother's Day. I checked Yelp to see if they have online Yelp waitlist or reservations (they don't), then called the week before to make a reservation over the phone, but was told they don't take reservations. So I was surprised when I overheard another party arrive after me and they were saying they had a reservation - staff said they didn't have any reservations on record, but could put their name down on the waitlist at the door. It's located at the end of a strip mall, home of the future Haven City food hall. Parking is plentiful but maybe because it was early on Sunday. Namu only opened recently so I set my bar pretty low to avoid too much disappointment. The menu offerings are really interesting. It's Korean fusion and they have some traditional Korean foods, and some Western brunch options. Decor was nice and I loved the music they played in the background. My family ordered a variety of things to try: *Rosemary Cardamom Latte (with almond milk) - 5/5 Really tasty drink. I didn't know what to expect, it's herb-y and earthy, but surprisingly good! *Korean Fried Chicken - 3/5. Crisp with a nice sauce, but many of the pieces were just fried fat. I spit out a whole piece since it was just chewing a chunk of fat. Gross. *French Toast - 5/5. Served creme brûlée style with a crispy sweet candied sugar layer on top. The toast slice is about 2 inches thick, eggy and soft and creamy, and really delicous. The menu description doesn't say that it's topped with nuts, but it is (FYI if you have allergies). *Namu breakfast plate - 4/5. This seems to be something that every table ordered. It's a very colorful plate and has a little bit of everything. The fried kale blends in with the salad so it was kind of hard to find. *jang-jorim (braised beef) burrito - 5/5. The family enjoyed this. It's a pretty big burrito, and filled with lots of yummy ingredients, even chunks of fresh avocado! It comes with a side of a delicious green sauce that tastes like chimichurri sauce. *Beef Bulgogi over rice - 5/5 My youngest son's favorite dish. Served with a side of purple rice and grilled onions and bell peppers. Now on to areas of improvement: Customer service/table service needs more training. What I mean by that is that they should have some. Service was non-existent. There was one lady taking orders, and everyone else was doing ...I'm not sure what... bringing out food, and helping you but only if you can catch their attention and wave them over, and cleaning the tables after they've been vacated for a while. The red head lady who takes the orders doesn't seem friendly. She came to our table, looked at us, and I stared at her waiting for her to greet us with something like, "Hello, I'm so and so. Welcome to Namu." Or something as basic as a "Good morning". I don't know...I guess I come from a generation where servers make an effort to make you feel welcome. She finally spoke and asked, "Are you ready to order?" I wanted the french toast, she said that they ran out of french toast, but it's in the kitchen being prepped, and would take 45 minutes before it was ready. I said I would order it and figured it could come after the rest of our food and be our dessert. Like I mentioned above, the menu doesn't mention anything about nuts on the toast, but the Yelp pictures showed nuts on them, so since my kids have nut allergies, I requested the nuts on the side. After about 30 minutes of waiting we still never received our food. The table next to us that ordered after us got their coffee drinks and one of their entrees before us. Then a lady comes by our table, asked if we wanted no nuts on the toast. I confirmed. She said, "Oh, is it because of allergies? Sorry, we already put nuts on it. Can I just scrape it off?" OMG... what the...?? Luckily my kids' allergies aren't too severe, and my hubby didn't want to wait any longer so we said it was fine. Turns out this french toast that wasn't currently available at the time of order was the first item that came to our table. Not only did they not put nuts on top, but they didn't bother putting fruit on the top either (like all the other toasts in the Yelp pics). Our other dishes took forever to some out after this. Not sure if they had a cook call out, but if this is normal, be prepared to wait a LONG time for all your food. No one ever checks on you. Water carafes were never refilled unless you were luckily enough to get an employee's attention and we asked for it. We weren't brought utensils until we asked for it (We were a party of 5 but got plates and utensils for 4). We couldn't close our check until we asked for it. See the pattern? Namu has so much potential! No doubt that the food is good here, presentation of dishes is beautiful, and ambiance is nice, but I will probably return after a while to give them time to work out their kinks. read more

First time here! This place used to be a Tofu house. I personally like what they did to the place. Very good ambiance for breakfast and brunch. We did not know what to expect. We ended up getting the Korean Fried Chicken without any sides and Jang Jorim Burrito which came with a salad and chimmichuri sauce. Service was good. They gave you a water pitcher and asked if everything was good. Looks like we'll be coming back again to try other items and maybe some of their specialty drinks.
