Service - When you walk in you are greeted by people welcoming you to Nashbird. The first question I received was, have you been here before? When I answered that I had not been, the staff member provided me with guidance on the menu as well as the options for choices of "hotness" of the chicken. Atmosphere - From the outside, it feels as if you are walking up to an old friend's house. The location is actually a house, one that has been remodeled and repurposed as a fast-casual restaurant. When you walk up there is a great porch and patio outside seating area as well as well-spaced tables/hi-tops inside. One thing that stuck out as you walked in is a spiral staircase that went downstairs. We peered down the staircase and saw they have a whole different seating area down there. My guess is not only is that used for overflow should the upstairs and outside be full but also as a rental space for private events. They were busy with customers so I was not able to confirm with them if that was the case. Regardless, of the specific usage, it was a cool feature and one you do not see in many restaurants. Value - I ordered the Homemade Chicken Biscuit sandwich but was told they were out of biscuits for the day....a bit of a bummer as I was looking forward to trying their biscuits. I moved over to the Hot Chicken sandwich which is made from grilled or fried Boneless Chicken Breast. This is then topped with Slaw, Pickets, and Lemon Mayo on a Brioche Bun. You are able to choose the level of heat you would like as well as a side to go with your sandwich. I went with the second option for heat, they call it Kickin'. I like spice but also know that each place has its own definition of spice when it comes to Nashville Hot so rather than have issues I rolled with what I felt was a safe choice. The bun was excellent and the crispiness of the chicken was great. I loved the crunch you had when you bit down on it. It was well seasoned beyond the Nashville Hot oil, and the lemon mayo added a nice touch to things. The Slaw was okay not great, more of a vinegar style than creamy. I enjoy both but did not find this to be special. The level of heat was good, but I think I could have gone for the next level which they call Hang Dang! My lunch partner did go with that level and found it to be just spicy enough for him. The food, the service, and the atmosphere definitely created value for me. I enjoyed the visit ...oh I forgot to mention...I had 25 minutes for lunch due to some meetings before and after....it was a risk to head to Nashbird with that limited scope of time...but they were able to get me in and out and serve me a very good meal in that timeframe. Location - Nashbird is located on the Eastern edge of the Automobile Alley section of Oklahoma City. As you drive up from the East (which I did) you may just miss their location, you drive over a railroad track and into more a neighborhood feel. There are residences right by the restaurant. It is a unique location and adds to the appeal of the restaurant. Rating - I am using one to 5 chicken sandwiches as the rating for this trip. One chicken sandwich is poor and Five chicken sandwiches are great. I would rate Nashbird 4 chicken sandwiches. I overall really enjoyed my experience at Nashbyrd. The level 2 spicy tenders were just the right amount of heat for me. A little sweat never hurt anybody. I would definitely not be able to handle level 3. I was stuffed after eating one tender, so definitely having leftovers. Must try the Nashsauce! A sweet and smokey sauce that's not really spicy at all helps bring down the heat. The Mac N Cheese is definitely a pass for me. It is topped with a crunchy bread crumb and shredded cheddar cheese. The flavor was good but it was very soupy. I wouldn't get this again. The Mac N Cheese poppers were delicious. They are crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside, with a tasty bacon flavor. I feel like 3 Stars makes people think "oh that must not be good". It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough for me to dream about going back the next day. It was just, so so. We came around 1pm and there were maybe 3 tables. You pick up a menu and order at the counter. It was all smooth. The space is modern. The price is decent for the food you get. Every basket comes with 2 sides and biscuit with 1 side. My husband got the boneless "chirp" basket (lowest level of heat) with double fries. The chicken came with pickles and white bread, which he liked cause you could basically make a sandwich. The fries were really good and the ranch is bomb. He said chirp still had a bite, but it was just right he who no like spice. I, feeling very go big or go home, got the chicken biscuit in "hot dang" with cheese and a side of mac n cheese plus honey to pour in my biscuit. This is the third hottest. Ok.. let's see here. Try all your food before you start eating the hot dang so that you can actually taste it. The macaroni and cheese wasn't hot and was pretty bland, that's a hard pass for me next time. The biscuit itself is delicious. The pickles are good, but I really wanted more than 2 on my biscuit. The chicken was MUY CALIENTE. Very strong chicken place new to NW 9th in the last couple month or so. I went with a decent sized group (12 total people, half adults and half kids aged 1-7) to Nashbird on a Saturday around 11:45. There were a couple of tables seated but the entire patio was open. You walk up to the counter first to place your order, which is then delivered to your table. We occupied 2 picnic tables on the patio. It's a great space with plenty of seating and cold water for refills. I asked the woman taking my order for a recommendation and based on her recommendation, I went with the sandwich with a heat level 2. For my side I got mac and cheese. Since there were so many of us, we shared and I was also able to try fried pickles, potato salad, and a ranch flavored chicken finger. My son got the kids' nugget plate, which comes with 5 nuggets and fries. The food was delivered to our table after about 10 or so minutes. The fried pickles were fantastic. Very crispy, not at all greasy, and the ranch was good. Definite re-order. My son's nuggets were good, but the fries were nothing to write home about. Just your basic skinny fry. The sandwich is good. It's served on a good quality bread and the chicken piece is large and fried well. However, a 2 level spice had virtually no heat. I was expecting the heat levels to be more akin to actual Nashville hot chicken places, where I understand a level 2 is incredibly hot. So, I was disappointed I did not get more heat. The mac and cheese was a table favorite. Nice flavorful sauce and toasted breadcrumbs on top. The potato salad was good, but it lacked seasoning. The chicken tender was great. The ranch flavor was spot on, and these things are BIG. Again, perfectly fried, and the meal is a decent value: $9.50 for 3 tenders plus 2 sides. I could see people sharing this meal, the tenders are that big. m They also come with pickles, which are very good. You can order additional pickles on the side for 50 cents, which is a bargain. Since I got no heat from my first visit, I returned to Nashbird a few days later on my own. I ordered the tender meal with mac and cheese, cole slaw, extra pickles (see above) and a spice level of "Hot Dang." It's the hottest, a level 4. This level definitely had more heat than level 2, but it still wasn't to the point where I was hurting. Lips tingled a bit, nose ran a bit, but that was the extent of it. That said, it was definitely hotter, I just wanted more heat. The cole slaw was a disappointment, like the potato salad, it had no seasoning. I would not order this again. At Nashbird they get the star of the show - chicken - right. It's fried well, the pieces are substantial, and the rubs are flavorful. Next time I go (which will be soon) I will ask if they can bump up the heat on the Hot Dang. You'd really have something there. read more

Wow!! At this point, all I can do is laugh..Holy shit this place was bad!! I have never went to a restaurant in my 35 yrs of existence and pretty much left everything on the table and just got up and left.. I should have know this place was going to be bad.. I went on 26 Aug 17, and as we finally made it to the register to order, we were told that they didn't have several items on there small menu!! (half the menu!!) It was only around 1900 when we went) no white meat basket, no mix basket, and no Mac n cheese.. (later on I heard one of the waiters say that they were out of fried pickles) sheesh! I got the dark meat meal (one of only a couple things they had left) which supposedly was a leg and thigh.. I also got the fried pickles, and an additional order of 2 wings.. The meal came with 2 sides, which I elected for onion rings and Cole slaw.. My wife got the 2 wings and the cucumber and watermelon salad.. You pay before you sit (In case your wondering why I didn't ask for a refund) I didn't want to deal with the hassle.. We wanted to get out of this place as quickly as possible, the food was that bad!! While waiting at our table, we noticed that the couple that was in front of us in line (to order). The female came back upstairs with her food and pointed something out to the waiter like something was wrong.. (another clue) Then we heard a customer at the bar complaining about beer or something.. (another clue) Once our meal came out, I looked at my meal and it looked like I had one breast.. We asked the waiter if this was an error? She said that the leg is "joined" with the thigh... (so pretty much a chicken quarter?) They should probably identify that on the menu? Don't get me wrong the food looked good, because of the thick batter but what was "hidden" underneath was a disaster!! My wife went to pull one of her wings apart and the batter fell off.. she tasted the batter and said it tasted weird!! (Uh oh) Then I looked at her food and the wing without the batter looked raw!! (See pics) I took my fork, and picked a small piece of my chicken to taste.. Yuck!!! I didn't even want to pull the batter off of the "chicken quarter" (afraid of seeing bloody raw chicken) after seeing that raw chicken wing on my wife plate.. I told the wife that I'm not eating this, and she agreed! She recommended that we leave everything on the table and just get up and leave.. (she actually did, and started heading towards the door) but I guess I felt embarrassed, so I got a to go box.. I put all the chicken in the to go box, and we left!! When we went down the stairs to leave, I left the box on a random table.. So whatever waiter found that box of untouched chicken, that was me that left it! Great Nashville style chicken. I live in Nashville and have had a few different hot chickens; one of the annoying things ab it is that I feel people try to go too hot. Maybe I'm just a sissy, I don't know! This place has a great mix of flavor and heat. I did the XX on my sandwich and XXX on my wings and could've enjoyed hotter. This place did a good job of balancing the two. Only two reasons I knew I was in the Midwest: 1. Sweet tea in the South is way sweeter lol, 2. My favorite food in the meal was the onion rings, and I think chicken should be the star at a place like this. To be fair, I had the gluten-free chicken tenders. This is one of those places that I like to tell people it's worth going to at least once, but I personally won't go out of my way to come back again. It wasn't as if the food was bad per say. I got the basket of dark meat with buttermilk ranch as the seasoning (can't handle spicy food, lol). The chicken was very juicy and the coating was crispy....but....it was just so greasy. There was a piece of bread underneath the chicken to soak up all of the grease (which was nice), but made me kind of sick seeing all of the grease. Some people may like the extra grease (and maybe the extra grease is typical for Tennessee style chicken), but it wasn't my cup of tea. The onion rings were very good (and not too oily!) but the Mac n cheese was just okay. It wasn't as cheesy as other places and tasted bland after a while. I got tempered by the cookie jar next to the register and ordered a snickerdoodle cookie as a dessert. The cookie was huge and probably the size of my face. Although I don't usually like snickerdoodle cookies, I enjoyed it here. Overall, the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't mind blowingly good either. Protip: if your stomach can't handle oil or spice, look into taking a probiotic. Places like Nashbird that were once the bane of my digestive system's existence are now nothing to worry about thanks to simple yogurt smoothies. Actually, my first visit here was the catalyst that finally got me to start taking my gut bacteria seriously so thanks, Nashbird. This isn't a dig at you all, either. I honestly wouldn't be the regular person I am today without that pivotal hot chicken moment. Anyways, they've got really nice people and really good (albeit slightly greasy) hot chicken. My first visit, the hot chicken was essentially grease and spicy oil, and the batter was super thick and doughy (btw every time since then, the chicken has been quite good, so this may have been a one-off occasion). My second visit, I ordered their chicken sandwich and it kinda blew my mind how good it was. It just had this perfect mix of crunchy slaw, pickles, and a lemon mayo that added the perfect amount of acid, sweetness, and fat into every bite. It's like they looked to the Spicy Chick-fil-A sandwich for inspiration and then took it to a whole. notha. level. If there's one thing off about Nashbird, it's their sides. I feel like I've tried most every side item and every single one has been a let down. Either they taste store bought frozen (e.g. fries and onion rings) or they're just super bland compared to everything else on your plate (e.g. potato salad and mac and cheese). Stopped in on this place on a Saturday afternoon. Ordered the chicken tacos with the medium spice and ordered the chicken wrap with the medium spice and the ordered onion rings and french fries. Also got two glasses of iced tea. The iced tea was so so, the sweeten low that they offered, for some reason was hard as rocks, like it hadn't been changed out of the box that they had it in for months. The spicy tacos were definitely spicy and were quite good. The chicken wrap was spiced perfectly and had a decent amount of ranch and filling inside of it. The onion rings however, with the star of the show they were done very nicely, and I must say, I would definitely come back to eat the onion rings just by themselves. The fries were nothing to write home about and were kind of bland, and we ended up throwing most of them away. This place is where you go for a juicy piece of hot chicken. I personally tried lots of sides, cucumber and onions were just straight vinegar. I was dissatisfied because my hopes for the traditional sweet homemade pickle taste, was met with soggy, straight vinegar sour. Fries were generic. The Mac n cheese was a creamy warm and gooey experience, the flavors didn't pop in your mouth, by it did the job. My husband tried the hot damn level of spice on his dark meat chicken, he said it was savory, juicy, the breading was not caked, but the hot was a fire in your mouth. The chicken was absolutely delicious- flavorful, tender, juicy, great breading- it just wasn't spicy, which is the main point of Nashville hot chicken. I got the 2nd level of spice and it didn't...taste spicy. At all. My Bf got the hottest level and it tasted like what mine should have. We've both had hot chicken from 3 places in Nashville, and it's supposed to hurt your mouth a little (actually a lot depending on what you order). Obviously there should be a range, but for the "kickin" not to be spicy at all was definitely disappointing. Either this place needs to up the spice level (sure, leave a no spice option, but for those wanting authentic Nashville hot chicken, this is a must) or lose the title of Nashville hot chicken and just say fried chicken. We finally got to try Nashbird! I have been wanting to make it here for some time and finally I did! Yum!! I must first say if you are going in craving original Nashville Hot Chicken(maybe Hattie B's or something)...Nashbird will be good, possibly the closest you will get in Oklahoma, but not the same. So just be fair!!! Nashbird'd building has a super cute setup and a crazy unique setting! I ordered the Jumbo tender basket(3 tenders) with the Hot Dang Heat level. For my 2 sides I chose Fries and Mac & Cheese. I enjoyed every part of my meal! The tenders were huge! And delicious! The flavoring of the Hot Dang is so good! I love that it has its own flavor and isn't jus hot. The day we were there they had a special drink, it was a vodka Cherry Limeade, we all really enjoyed it! They did not last long! Despite what their menu says, they no longer offer the "lunch special". Delicious fried chicken sandwiches and cold local beers on special what's not to love? I recommend the nashvillian at kickin heat (2/4). Normally I get the spiciest level when I go to Thai restaurant but I restrained myself to get a 2/4 heat after seeing other recommendations, it was a perfect level and I am fearful for my tongue if I go higher than that. I haven't tried many fried chicken places in OKC, but this is definitely the best of the ones I have tried. This place seems to have finally put the awesome location to good use. Nestled on a side street from Automobile Alley, it's in a perfect location to catch some late night traffic from Midtown to Bricktown. The chicken tastes like a fancy, kicked up version of Chick-fil-a (probably due to the peanut oil). The crust on the chicken is fantastic! So thick and crispy you almost need to crack it open before you dig in! The names for the spices sound intimidating, but the "Hot Dang" was definitely not to hot for comfort. So this place is so fun. Love the wallpaper and decor! You walk in grab a menu and order , get a # and sit down. Kinda like Garage burgers. There food is great, we got fried pickles, medium heat chicken sandwich and hubby got chicken and Mac and cheese. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They have local (and non local) beer on tap. Ehh... there's a lot of hype, but I find the flavor to be lackluster and the overall presentation is sloppy, greasy and wet. Won't return and won't recommend. I ordered the Jumbo Tenders Hot Chicken Basket at the Hot Dang! heat level with sides of fries and mac n' cheese. I wasn't impressed. Jumbo Tenders - In my mind, there were three parts to the tenders: (1) the seasoning; (2) the breading; and (3) the chicken. The Hot Dang! seasoning was okay, but not especially spicy or otherwise memorable. It almost seemed like a dry rub crusted around the breading, which was a little thick, crispy on the outside, and soft and wet on the inside. Unfortunately, the combination of the seasoning and breading created a barrier the flavor couldn't breach. This left the big tenders juicy/greasy but essentially flavorless. I was pretty disappointed. Fries: The fries were a little thicker than shoestring fries and they were served warm-ish and limp. Since fries aren't the main attraction at a chicken joint, I was only a little disappointed. Mac n' Cheese: Honestly, I can't remember much about the mac n' cheese, which, I guess, makes it the highlight of this meal. If you know me, you know I don't leave food on the plate--it's rude and I have a healthy appetite. But here, I couldn't force myself to finish the tenders or the fries. They were mediocre at best, and the more I thought about having paid for that sad meal in front of me, the sadder the meal looked and the harder it was to keep eating. read more
