Our party of 4 had a great eating/drinking experience last evening at Nectar on HH. We arrived about 6:30 with no reservations, (was last minute idea) hostess said about 1 wait or we can sit at the bar. Fortunately, there were 4 of us and we did manage to fit at the bar. Wonderful bartender, Keturah, took care of us over the next hr or so. She was very attentive to all her customers at the bar, and had 3 booths within the bar area, that she also handled. Keturah asked the hostess several times, when we first arrived, about the two booths that were free; and both times hostess came back and said they were reserved. Time passed, as we ate and drank, and one couple did arrive and take one of the booths in the bar area. Other booth remained empty the entire time we were at the bar. Having said that, we had a great time interacting with Keturah right where we were. I would recommend reservations, but sitting at the bar was a great experience, had food/appetizers and drinks. Nectar Farm Kitchen was great. We found this place on Yelp. The restaurant's high rating - 4.5 stars with over 300 reviews - was spot-on. We came here for brunch and it was one of the best meals I've had on Hilton Head Island. I give this place 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. Nectar Farm Kitchen opened in February 2021 in the Harris Teeter shopping center just outside the Greenwood Drive entrance to Sea Pines. A second Nectar opened in Bluffton in January 2022. The restaurants are part of Hilton Head's SERG Restaurant Group, a group that includes old-school Giuseppi's pizza and popular, award-winning Skull Creek Boathouse. I think SERG is *the* restaurant group on the island. For example, their catering arm caters the RBC Heritage PGA Tour event at Harbour Town. This Nectar location shares a patio and restrooms with another SERG restaurant, Marley's Shrimp & Burger Shack. If you're at Nectar and need to use the restroom, you have to go back outside and enter the Marley's building. The restaurant looks great. It's got a clean, modern design with a "farmstead" feel. The vibe was welcoming, casual, and laid back. Our group of five dined inside. I felt very comfortable and relaxed. The space is sizable with a few different seating areas. It works well with groups. As the name implies, Nectar is a farm-to-table restaurant. A lot of the kitchen's ingredients come from local (Lowcountry) and regional (Southern) farms. During our visit, there was both a daily specials menu with a decent selection of food (e.g., combos, fruits and vegetables) and drink (e.g., cocktails, local beer, different cold brew coffee flavors) and a regular menu. The regular menu had an extensive list of breakfast, brunch, and lunch foods with several contemporary takes on American classics. For example, there were five kinds of Eggs Benedict (one made with deviled crab cakes) and a shrimp melt sandwich made with shrimp salad and local Gouda cheese. Below is most of what we ordered. It should also give you an idea on pricing. Simply put, I left Nectar feeling full, happy, and satisfied. This is gratifying comfort food, some of it with a modern twist. For example, the Deviled Eggs were served with square-shaped egg whites and the egg-yolk-filling piped on top with tiny garnishes. The eggs looked fun and unique and they were quite tasty too. I loved the Biscuits & Sawmill Gravy. I love biscuits and gravy in general. Some things that made Nectar's version different from traditional biscuits and gravy were the shapes of the biscuits (square) and color (more of a golden yellow) and flavor of the gravy. Nectar's biscuits and gravy were super flavorful. The texture of the biscuits was on point, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. And the gravy was creamy and delectable. Thinner versions of the buttermilk biscuits are what they used for our biscuits and gravy. I enjoyed them equally to the sweet potato biscuits. I think the butter, jam, and honey are all musts. The sweet potato biscuits also had wonderful texture. I also really enjoyed the country sausage patties, Carolina Plantation grits, and bacon. The sausage patties were extra savory, the grits had perfect consistency and tasted terrific (more complex flavors than a typical restaurant serving of grits), and the bacon was thick, relatively lean, and appetizingly chewy. The duck hash was creative and very filling. I recommend it. As for the drinks, the Local Nitro Cold Brew Coffee with Salted Caramel Cream was excellent. A real treat. We've always really enjoyed Lucky Rooster so wanted to try its replacement. I have to say the food quality is excellent. They are definitely still working out the kinks with service - inexperienced servers and a lot of standing around but honestly the food quality was so good. Management checked in with us later and took some items off the bill - probably could have checked in sooner but they checked in is the important point. We were a party of 8 so variety of items tried and all excellent. Will go back and hopefully some basic training for servers and food runners happens and it will be a perfect 5 stars. Nope Nope and NO!!!!!!! As a retired Army veteran, the amount of places I've traveled throughout the world should be a fair way to assess and give unbiased reviews of food and service. With that said let's begin with the service. My wife and I are seated but have to wait about 8 minutes for our server. Her name is Leti I believe. Upon deliberating what we wanted to drink, we agree on 2 hot chocolates, 2 waters, and 1 sweet tea with passion fruit flavor added. I notice there is one roll of utensils on the table. I ask for another set. Our server tells us that she'd be right back. It takes 15 minutes for our drinks and 5 minutes pass by (a total of 20 minutes) and still no silverware. I get up to ask for a set. (I should never have to do the job of the server and then they expect a tip) Now initially I wouldn't have had a problem with the wait, but as I noticed that other guests arriving after my wife and I had been seated for almost 30 minutes and in less than 5 they were being greeted and drinks were to their table. The crazy part is they ordered more drinks than we did, plus they were mostly alcoholic while my table was all non-alcoholic. As we are a family that stopped eating pork along time ago, the options for breakfast meats weren't sufficient. Of course for an upcharge you can add a fried or grilled chicken breast, but no vegan or turkey or beef sausage options, in South Carolina!! So we settle for a biscuit basket, my wife orders the chicken and waffle, and I order the shrimp, crab, and grits. I replace the charred tomato with mushrooms. Let me tell you......the biscuit basket was the definition of a deadly weapon if you wanted to chunk it and throw it at someone. The biscuits had no flavor, were hard as rocks, and were cold. A total let down. My meal was actually good. The only issue was that there were shells on the tails of the shrimp. You'd think for the price you pay, you don't have to wrestle with your food. I can't stand businesses that make shrimp and grits and leave the shell of the tail on. My wife's meal was so bad that she had to send it back. If you're cooking a Belgium waffle (or U.S's interpretation of one) you'd ensure that it was fully cooked through. The chicken breast she had wasn't enjoyable either. The lack of the server checking to see if we were ok, or if we needed refills, along with the attention to detail and time management of treating all of her assigned guests the same was all I needed to know to base my tip off of. The manager comes and asks if they could remake the food, and instead of asking how it could be made right, it was a bad way to try and patch up an unenjoyable experience. The only good thing is the fact they do honor military discounts. As low as it may be the notion is appreciated by veterans such as myself. Even after paying, there was no type of "thanks for stopping by, or have a nice day" I left a detailed note on the receipt and expressed the discrepancies we had. Once we left because the bathroom had to be accessed outside of the restaurant, my wife informs me that the manager wished that I would have expressed these things to her. The crazy thing is, that I had voiced the displeasure of my wife's food and the service and all she said was "we'll take care of that for you" What she did was take of the order why wife didn't eat. What also rubbed me the wrong way was the manager telling my wife "we will leave her a tip because, that's how she makes a living" The issue I have with that is, I tip based on service. If you are serving guests, you're expected to bring the drinks, food, take the orders and handle issues that are in your pay grade. We not only had to wait multiple times for things, items requested were not fulfilled. She didn't bring the appetizer, or the entrees. Just the drinks and the check. She didn't inquire if the food was being enjoyed, or if we needed water. Why am I tipping a person for that? It wasn't earned. I was not happy or satisfied with the meal. We stopped in Sunday night after watching football all afternoon. Nectar was about half full so we were seated immediately. The decor is comfortable and calming. Tweety our server stopped by in a few minutes so we were able to give him our drink and food orders at that time. I ordered the peach lemonade which was very good. She wanted to taste it and drank half. I ordered a special, blackened swordfish, and my wife ordered a roasted butternut squash soup. My fish was tender and perfectly seasoned and it was a nice portion. I did especially like the mixed vegetables that were not overcooked and included broccoli, cauliflower and yellow squash. Such a cute place! Love the Bee theme and so many cute honeycomb designs on the floors, walls and everywhere. We had an amazing breakfast on our way out of town on a Monday morning. Got there right when they opened at 8:00am and had no wait. Waitress was so sweet and awesome! We split the Mother Earth and added an order of the spicy sausage patties. It was our first time visiting Hilton Head island and I found this place on Yelp. It sounded so good that I knew we had to try it. I was worried it would be packed for a Saturday at lunch, but I guess it's still pretty new so it was easy to get a table - I'm sure that won't always be the case. We tried a variety of adult beverages to get our vacation started- the roosters crow was spicy! I like spicy but this was a bit much for me. The bees knees was DELISH! The Irish railroads was really good too. I didn't like the Georgia Collins, but there were SO many other options- so you are sure to find others. The bartender even made my boyfriend a special holiday old fashioned that he really enjoyed. As for food, we started with the deviled eggs. The orange marmalade sounded like it would make them so unique and I was right- it truly elevated the flavor. Plus the cracklings gave it the best crunch. So good! We shared both the duck dip and the duck hash. Both wonderful. The hash was made with Brussel sprouts, I think turnips, raisins, and onions. The flavors were really good. The sweet potato biscuit wasn't what we expected, a bit dry- but ask for the fresh butter and it really makes it good. The dip is really great. Tastes almost liked smoked bbq. The sauce on the bread really made it good. We got the Mac and cheese as our side, which was good, but honestly everything was so much better that we barely ate it. Dessert: we got the hummingbird cake. To be quite honest, this was my least favorite of the meal. I was expecting a very cream cheese frosting but it was more like a pure sugar frosting. It needs more cream cheese I think. The menu offers so many amazing things though, you probably don't even need desserts! We did return the very next day for breakfast since we were only in town for about 24 hours and wanted to try more. This time no alcohol - the hot coffee is strong but good. The regular cold brew had a flavor that was not my favorite. I got it with the pumpkin spice but after one switched to the hot coffee. For our meals my boyfriend did the special of a wild boar sausage scramble which he loved. I ordered the lowcountry omelette, which was a recommendation from the day before. I thought it was OK. Oh god. This place does it. In short, this place just hits different, it's not usually what I like but I'm not going to lie, it's good. I've been here twice and the food has always tasted good. I tried a mushroom sandwich from the menu once, and it was undeniably incredible. I couldn't finish it, it's not what I usually order but the people I went with finished it for me, and according to them, best sandwich they've ever had. That's not mentioning the service though. My travel group has two children, one of which has a disability, and while we were there, she was feeling a bit.. she had a tantrum and caused a scene. A waiter dropped what she was doing and came to us with a box of fidget toys, and offered both of them to the kids free of charge. Back to the food though, my second trip, I got the southern chicken and waffles. It was a subtle taste, again not what I'm used to but it was undeniably really good. Poor food and poorly prepared another modern restaurant with flavorless food and poor mashups Many factors went into my final grading for this subpar restaurant. I came with my family for a thanksgiving dinner and my disappointment was immeasurable. The lack of menu choices were the first sign for me although it was a thanksgiving spread there still should have been more choices. They started with bread which wasn't anything special but the sesame seeds were overkill. No matter what we ordered it seemed that they had ran out of half of it. Clearly unprepared for the night and unprofessional for a restaurant doing a themed dinner, that would be like Popeyes running out of chicken! And to top it all off when the food got here it was wrong which really affected the whole experience.
