Great local steak house with friendly staff and owner. Love the snapper and the steak frites.

Greeted by L.D. when I walked in. Heard about this place from my girlfriend. I'm a big oyster fan. More so when their a dollar a each. Big and meaty very mild salinity a good brine. Happy hour is gonna be awesome here. Next came the bacon wrapped shrimp poppers. Crunchy, mild spice, a good couple of sauces. $1.00 each. You see where I'm going with this? Next the deviled eggs. Bacon and sweet relish combination. Always a fun snack. $2.50 for 6. I decided not to drink cause they were so cheap and I had to go home and make dinner. But I'm definitely coming back for happy hour again. 5 stars for value and quality The restaurant was very clean a tidy. Good looking staff. Open executive kitchen. Nice play list. Was surprised to see it empty at lunchtime on a Wednesday. Our server was short tempered, in informative and almost rude. Food was good. Salmon was over cooked and dry but steaks were perfect and elk was delicious. Asparagus was stringy and hard so couldn't enjoy. Baked potatoes not an option and bear options very limited. read more

The GF and I wanted Hook Line and Sinker and found out it had an ownership change. All old school decor is gone and location is remodeled. Nelson's nearly has the same menu and lunch specials as HL&S. Changes: more food options, hostess seating, ordering from a menu, waitstaff+ tipping, nice outdoor seating area. The fries are much better now! The thicker middle of all of the fried catfish had a strange mushy texture. Unlike self service HL&S, I had to ask for hot sauce (1 option) and horseradish. I had run out of tarter sauce and by the time out waitress appeared, I was near finished with my meal, no biggie. Very nice waitstaff otherwise very attentive. There were maybe 5 other tables with patrons eating at lunch, which HL&S was always pretty packed. I don't see many areas of improvement, but I think people showing up expecting HL&S will be disappointed. read more

We were looking for a locally owned steak house for our party of 5 & decided to try this place on a Friday night. It was all outstanding. We started with the crab & lobster dip & the sampler, all items were delicious. They nailed the crab cake, nice & tender with large lumps of crab. Our table had the Elk, Sirloin, and filet. They were all cooked as requested, my elk was perfect medium rare. The meat was flavorful with nicely seared edges. Our waiter was Adam & he was amazing. Attentive, knowledgeable & friendly and his recommendations were spot on, from the elk to the Japanese whiskey. I rather preferred the more casual atmosphere, the food quality, preparation & service were that of a high end place without all the pretentiousness. The owner even stopped by our table to chat. The only thing that could have made it better was dimming the overhead lights a little once it was dark outside. read more

We have come here 3 different times during lunch. It may look like it is closed but it is not. Every time we have been here the food was excellent. First time I came was for my birthday I ordered the ribeye it was delicious. Second time I ordered a chicken sandwich and that was so good too. Third it was the salmon...amazing! Wow!, what a great Birthday experience we had, my husband and I went there for his birthday, and was happily greeted, it was on a Thursday evening and not very busy a nice and quite ambiance, the food and service was awesome. We loved all of the food that was put on our table, everything was flavored perfectly, from the appetizers to the main dishes, loved the crab cake, onion rings, ribeye, red snapper and the grandma collard greens were amazing, the best in Texas, :) We will revisit Nelson' again soon, go to Nelson's you will not be disappointed. read more

What a great find! We spotted the cute patio on a pretty Saturday afternoon. The service and food did not disappoint. Everything was freshly prepared and flavorful. I had the 3 piece catfish meal and it was perfectly seasoned. My husband had the Bison meatloaf and loved it. The star of the show was the fried okra; literally the BEST either of us have ever had. We're excited to come back to try other menu items. Just a note: the prices are very fair for the quality and portion sizes. Food was just nasty, I ordered a steak medium rare- it was more on the medium side. The steak had some kind of sour taste like it was spoiled or marinated in something sour. I eat at a variety of restaurants. I can say I have had a much better steak at Golden Corral! The other three people in our group had the Salmon and the red fish, The fish was about cooked to fish jerky. We had a horrible experience and would never return under any circumstance. Service was ok, but not fantastic. The Restaurant seemed really clean but the dinning room had a strange vibe for sure, something was way off. When you pay $25-$45 for an entree, you would expect a bread with your dinner, not here! They offer French bread like you would get if you bought it in a aluminum bag at Walmart! This is a well appointed local restaurant with a very attentive service staff. I liked our first course of crab and shrimp cakes and the bacon wrapped shrimp. Both served with house made remoulade and cocktail sauce. The entrees eh not so much. Had the 12 oz NY with mashed potatoes and asparagus....... cooked perfectly but the mashed potatoes and asparagus were a huge disappointment. They serve rustic skin on mashers with no butter or cream in them and the asparagus was just kept in a steam well with no love put into them. I felt like it was spa food. My wife had the Redfish and that was cooked perfect but same thing with her veg. Very underwhelming. Hope they can fix it up because I like the look and feel of the restaurant and it's close to home read more

I drove by a million times and finally decided to stop in and I'm so glad I did! We started with lobster shooters, deviled eggs, and the crab & lobster dip - highly recommend all 3! Delicious. For my entrée I went with the fried catfish basket and it was great! If you love skinny fries like I do, definitely make sure to order. The only thing we weren't crazy about was the dessert but we barely had room anyway. I will definitely be back soon! read more

Chris Lawson. I never leave reviews, this is only one in four I have ever posted. Brian Nelson and his staff have been nothing but courteous, friendly, accommodating and appreciative. I have had multiple amazing lunches at Nelson's. Then I decided to try dinner, the Elk tenderloin was better than anything I have ever had in Colorado (I go twice a year ) Last thanksgiving I decided to have a belated Thanksgiving at Nelsons since my son and I always go to the Cowboys game on Thanksgiving. I hosted my extended family young and old all who have various dietary needs. All were accommodated in every way gluten free, no salt, no pepper, no spice etc. We are unfortunately the most needy family anyone restaurant could have ! It was an amazing evening, every wish was accommodated with a smile and executed. The most relaxing and tasty "belated Thanksgiving" I have ever had with no cooking for me. Thank you Brian and staff. Wow! We used to come here when it was Hook line and Sinker but this is such a wonderful upgrade! For my sons birthday we were able to drive through and get a bottle of wine a Wagyu steak that was beautiful and the most scrumptious lobster sliders! These are not the buttered up fried lobster rolls, oh no, these are clean ,yummy all meat sliders! They have a vast array of veggies and sides to go with them as well! My friend and I were in the mood to try a new place and she found them through a Google search for "casual seafood and steak restaurants". One reviewer said they were in a bad location, but we couldn't figure why. Maybe they think that anything other than Beverly Hills or Highland Park is sketchy?? Anyway, trust me, the location is perfectly fine. It wasn't crowded for a Saturday night, but we got there a bit late. Our waiter Thomas couldn't have been nicer or given us better service. The food was out of this world! We split a crab cake for an appetizer, and Thomas wasn't kidding when he assured us that it was plenty big enough to share. My friend got a scrumptious filet and I had a delectable bowl (plenty for leftovers) of Brunswick stew. She had a martini and I had a drink called Penicillin, which had ginger in it (therapeutic ). Then we split a piece of chocolate mousse cake, which was seriously a little slice of heaven. During dinner, the owner Mr. Nelson came over to chat and thank us for coming in. He and his staff weathered it out in the face of the CV hurricane, and I applaud them for hanging in there. My wife and I tried the restaurant lately. I have been looking for a restaurant with decent catfish. We found the restaurant on yelp and headed to what turned out to be the same place the Hook Line and Sinker was years ago. We loved the restaurant until it was bought by some corporate entity that ruined the place. When we arrived at the restaurant we thought it was closed. There was absolutely no customers in the restaurant -I mean absolutely no one. We did not see another customer the entire time we ate which started around 6 pm on a Wednesday. The place was clean and the waitress was friendly. Since there was no one else in the restaurant we got the full service treatment. We ordered the fried catfish and fried shrimp and crab cake app. The crab cake was decent and the sauce was delicious. The shrimp were huge and tasted fresh. It was actually the best fried shrimp I have eaten in a while. However my first bite of the catfish was somewhat distasteful. It tasted a little fishy and was not fresh. My wife and I noticed there was not any lemons provided to kill some of the fish taste. Also the meat of the catfish was texturally soft and a little mushy. We ate it but we tasted it all the way home. I hate to ding a restaurant for one dish but it is the reason we drove ten miles to get there. We won't be driving there again. read more

They also have a call Ahead drive thru to pick up food. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals. Excellent ! We were celebrating a birthday and they served us a free huge slice of chocolate cake. A welcome surprise. WHY? When you drive by the building, the looks of the building can be deceiving. It appears to be in an old Taco Cabana so you might not think of them as a steakhouse. But you will be surprised by what is on the menu and the taste. Not at the level of service of a white table cloth establishment but food is great and menu is diverse enough for everyone. Went to Nelson's for date night after seeing decent reviews on yelp. Upon walking in we were meeting by a VERY courteous waitress that took VERY good care of us throughout dinner. We both order cocktails and they were decent and soon after we ordered the Deviled Eggs and "Crab cake". The wait time was perfectly acceptable for the appetizers and when they came out to the table they were very generous! First, the deviled eggs were probably the best part of the dinner. They were light and the relish added a different flavor than we what we were used to. Next, the "crab cake" or whatever it would be called was just massive. However when I bit into it I certainly tasted various flavors. One being shrimp pieces. I personally never in my life had a crab cake stuffed with random small pieces of shrimp... and if you are going to put SHRIMP in a CRAB cake then at least put in on the menu and just not use it as filler. The entrees... I ordered the $45 ribeye and honestly it was terrible. The ribeye was marinated in something and it completely overpowered the flavor of what traditionally should be a good/great cut off beef. The asparagus was ok. The mashed potatoes were WAY to salty and I can say for certain I have had better ribeyes from sports bars that weren't $45. She got a chicken sand which that was an absolutely massive portion that she did enjoy with the large amounts of guac and mustard. However the chicken itself was wayyyyy over cooked and one small piece forces you to reach over and get a drink to wash it down. Overall We aren't going to make a return trip. Crab cakes have a name for a reason.. stick to it. Ribeyes are incredible cuts of beef.. no need to try and make it all fancy. Just S&P and let the quality of meat speak for itself. My mother and some friends came in tonight and enjoyed a great dining experience. The rainbow trout I had was excellent, cooked quite well and had an excellent flavor. The ribs my mother ordered had such a great flavor she enjoyed them quite well. The waitperson we had showed us quite friendly service and that she cared about how we were treated, when the sun was starting to blind us she asked us about it and I asked her if she could have the blinds lowered and it was not a problem at all. This is what I call excellent quality service and would make me want to come back again. read more

I was 23 hours on the road (just passing through) and read this was a dog friendly restaurant so we checked it out. I thought I might get a decent steak- it didn't have much flavor but had good color... and some fat. Yes, service animals are allowed inside (where it was nice and cool) and dogs are allowed in the outside dining area. Food was just okay. Server, Thomas was great. It was also 105 outside and too much for my dog. He was nice and brought some water for the dog and even turned on a fan, but no, I wouldn't recommend this place on a hot Texas day with a dog. Aside from that, it was just a typical, relaxed restaurant with some basic offerings. read more

My husband and I ate dinner here and had an enjoyable time. The service was exceptional. We ordered crab and lobster dip which was very good. I'd love it if there was a bit more seafood in it. We ordered salmon and it was a beautiful piece of fish and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were full of flavor. We ordered the deviled eggs as well and found them very tasty. I got them without the relish because I am not a big relish fan. I loved that they had that option instead of it being mixed in.
