Had nachos which for $28 were some tortilla chips in flavorless cheese soup (literally liquid) and carne asada that had literally no flavor and a mushy texture. Have had better nachos at a little league ball game. $26 for burger which was also extremely average. They also charge $4 to split a plate. Would pass on this place for SURE and instead get a picnic to go from elsewhere and enjoy on a bench. Or maybe just get a cocktail here. But the food is just not worth it. read more

The view at sunset is amazing. Restaurant was packed just before sunset, then poof everyone was gone :). Oh well, I guess the restaurant must be used to that. Worked out well for us since we had the patio mostly to ourselves for dinner. Food was good to very good, but didn't really make much difference since Mother Nature stoke the show. Server was fantastic though. Even brought some of us blankets since it was chilly outside. Plenty of heaters outside and a large fireplace. The views are amazing and service is great. The food is very so so. You pay premium for the views. The drinks are worth it, I tried the watermelon marg,which is both strong and delicious. The Ceviche tasted very plain, it could use some lemon or something. The shrimp taquitos looked amazing and I would want to try those next time. The poke salad was $30 but not very worth it. Overall I really enjoyed my experience because it was all about the people I was with, the drinks, and the views. I don't really recommend coming here for the food. read more

Nelson's is a restaurant located in the Terranea resort - the ambiance is absolutely beautiful, offering a fresh breeze and stunning views of the ocean. That being said, ambiance is the only thing they really offer. We came here for dinner and left extremely disappointed. Their menu is limited (it used to be a lot bigger) and the food was generally overpriced and lacking in flavor. A quick rundown of what we ordered - - Clam Chowder: Sadly, this was the best and tastiest item we ordered. - Lobster Roll: For over $20.00, we received an understuffed, plain roll that was wholly unimpressive. The bread was not warm, nor was it buttered and the lobster was sloppily made; I found a lobster fin as well as other hard pieces in my roll that I had to pick out. - Ahi Poke Salad: This is probably the worst poke salad (and poke in general) that I have ever had, and I am NOT a picky eater. It had ZERO flavor, so we asked if there was a dressing missing (because honestly, I was really confused as to why it was so bad). They brought us a little ramekin of dressing that was supposed to go on the salad and low and behold - NO FLAVOR. It was thickened oil. I don't know if the chef called out sick and some inexperienced person made the food, but that's what it tasted like. We had family visiting from out of town and we had hoped to take them here for a nice dinner but it was embarrassingly terrible and unfilling. It was absolutely delicious, not to mention having the most beautiful view. My boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday here today and the whole experience could not have been better. We shared the bavarian pretzel (AMAZING) and each had a salad that was packed with a bunch of flavor. The service at the resort is amazing. We arrived and we were taken to the restaurant via a shuttle. Our driver was knowledgeable about the property and the restaurant. The view from our table was beautiful. The food was good, and our party had a great time. Service was good, but toward the end we had to wait a bit to ask our server if one of the desserts we ordered had nuts (There was a nut allergy at our table, and we did not ask before we ordered the desert. Once the dessert arrived, the person with the nut allergy remembered that he did not ask about there being nuts in the dessert so we waited about 10 minutes for our server to come back around to ask). Not really the servers fault because we were one of the last to leave the restaurant and they were beginning the cleanup inside the restaurant, but it was a bit hard to locate the server when we really needed him. But then again, not really their fault, just something that happened to happen. But overall we really enjoyed our time at Nelsons! Highly recommend :-) read more

The setting is gorgeous and the food tasted great. It's a laid back environment with options for indoor or outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside with the wonderful outdoor ambiance of the ocean and chill benches. It was a beautiful afternoon and being outdoors was perfect. Our server was friendly and attentive. my last 2 visit to Nelson's were not really satisfied because of their service. Few servers were so rude and not responsive to the guests. I had to move the umbrella to move my chair to sit and the waiter stood there and didn't help me at all. I asked for straws and small plates more than 3 times. (didn't get extra plates), they ran out of mayonnaise.. haha read more

Two Words: Great Drinks At the end of the resort, you have to walk through the resort outside to get to here. The drinks were sooo good. The food was just okay. They are actually a bit pricey for what you get. It was super busy during the weekend, even at 2pm. Great view of the water. Valet is $15 with validation, otherwise parking is hard to find. read more

This is my third time coming here and I like it. Nice view and almost all seats are under shade. Since all were weekdays and lunch time, there were no waiting time. The service is good and food come out pretty fast. Most food are nice but the reason for 4 stars is today's crab salad were almost all lettuce and some corn and just a bit of crab meat. I was disappointed. I valet parked few times but today I parked self parking area(near hotel entrance along the road, it's free) and walked to the restaurant. You can walk through inside the hotel to get to the restaurant. On the way back, the worker gave us a ride with a golf cart. If you need a ride, they will arrange the cart or car from hotel entrance. There is a path you can walk to the cove right next to the restaurant along the beach side. If you are lucky, you can see dolphins jump. Nice little walk after lunch. read more

It's located right where one can catch a nice view of the ocean. The menu is casual and simple where one can easily find some easy eats such as their huge and famous Bavarian Pretzel and chips and guacamole. They've got a variety of sandwiches, salads and bowls. For brunch, I've had their Nelson's Salad. For $20.00, it has a good mix of kale, brussels sprouts, dried cranberries, red onion, kobuka squash, goat cheese, apple, pepitas, chicken and balsamic vinaigrette. They only had one menu for 4 people claiming they were short and get this, only had 1 (one) table setting as they were and short on cloth napkins and silverware. If you are looking for a dining by the ocean, this is the place you need to try. It's Nelson's at Terranea Resort. I treats my friends from Georgia and the couple is now a fan of Nelson's. They enjoyed the food and the service were Excellent! They met the Director of F&B, Vincent Brunetti, and they both happy to know that this a new management and Vincent is on the process of providing training and coaching of the new Leadership. If you read some old reviews of Nelson's, you should try and give a second try. The service and the management were incredibly friendly and fantastic! Plus, the ocean view of the peninsula were incredibly beautiful. If you got lucky, you will see some dolphins playing near Nelson's. read more

Atmosphere Nelsons is located in the most picturesque vista. This review is for the summer concert series. Nice friendly crowd-get there early for best seats-otherwise you have to stand or wait in line for a spot. The group nearby brought their own table cloth that I recommend as other people will try to take your seats ( or "cleaning up" spill beer and ect down the table-ugh!). The Rolling Stone Tribute band was good-they started off strong-second set was iffy but they really warmed up third set. Bathrooms are onside Nelsons or outside. If not for concert-reservations only-hostess is really snobby even with many empty tables and open bar. Food The menu has a-lot to offer and there are other options- just ask the server-such as wine is not on the menu but they offer it-generous inexpensive pours. The first chips and guac was broken chips and less than fresh and tastin guac-a server came by with a tray of unbroken chips and when we compared chips-he exchanged the tray on the spot-the guac tasted fresh with the new tray. Chicken and ribs, caesar salad-huge-sides of cole slaw/ potato salad-yummy. Parking This deserves a separate category. The valet experience was HORRIBLE. When you drive up, the sign lists prices from $42-45.00. When you pull up to the valet attendant, they are super helpful and inform you that when your ticket is validated, the cost is $10- which sounds fair. They were kind in directing me where to pull aside to change shoes. When I went to retrieve my car, the nightmare began-I saw my attendant and showed my ticket. The clerk at the desk said" you can come around here"-slapping her podium for emphasis. I moved 2 feet and complied. Then I waited and watched while everyone else came, were waited on politely, and left in their car. Most were teens picking up car for patents. After everyone else was gone-I asked about my car-after re-showing my ticket, she realized she did not send for my car. Another customer apologized to me for the lack of service when his car showed up-seeing that I was still waiting. A friend waited 35 min for her car! Then the attendant informed me that my battery was dead and would have to be jumped! The clerk fake offered a refund-"oh, I can give you a refund..." no follow through. The jump was swift and efficient I will not use the valet service ever again for these events due to the complete lack of minimal customer service. Maybe should not be 5 stars because the prices are kinda ridiculous. But oh, the views..... Nelson's is oceanfront, atop a bluff. It's at the north end of Terranea, a bit of a walk from the parking lots. But...the resort has shuttles roaming the grounds. Free. Just flag one down & hop in. Fun to ride in the open air, canopied shuttle! They're like big golf carts, can seat several people. If you're going for lunch I'd recommend arriving at 11 when the place opens....because it fills up fast. Or at least it did on TG weekend when the hotel was crowded. Two days in a row last weekend I went here for first meal of the day, accompanied by my out-of-towners who were staying at the resort. The reason: Nelson's has great coffee. And: I love a burger for breakfast. The Mo Betta Burger ($23!!!!!!) comes with fries. You can choose sweet potato or seasoned fries, or a mix of both. I mixed 'em but the burger is so filling it was hard to eat the fries. I tried my best. We had a 2-year-old in our party so I got to see the kid's menu. Selections included little mini corn dogs, bite-size! Our kiddo wasn't crazy about them so the adults ate them as hors d'oeuvres. Loved 'em! I want to go back to try the tri-tip chili, comes with corn bread. Although... I asked the hotel staff (cuz they would know), what is the best thing on the menu. Every one of them said the burger. It's mo betta, baby. I think 2 people could split one if eating the fries. Others in our party got lobster roll, crab cake sliders, salmon salad & house salad with added avocado (pay extra). Holy crap they weren't cheap with the avocado but I have no idea the added cost. (I took a pic after a third of the avocado was quickly devoured.) Service was great both times. We had to order various custom sides to try to feed the little kiddo & were graciously accommodated. One of the sides was asparagus - kiddo couldn't eat it all so the adults got some. No tough ends & perfectly cooked/seasoned. 5+ stars for that. So, plan on paying a lot for food. Don't dress up, the place is comfy casual. Bring camera, views are incredible. There's indoor & outdoor seating, outdoor fills up fastest. If you go on a weekday daytime, you'll likely have no problem finding parking in Terranea's free public lot.
