This review is only about the vegetarian breakfast burrito. Which was pretty disappointing, especially after all the positive reviews on here. The potatoes (too big and too many) were underseasoned. The salsa was like tomato sauce with some chili mixed in. And I didn't find any cheese until I was about 1/3 of the way through. Another strange thing is that they take your order at the counter, but don't have you pay until you pick up the food. Which seems weird because it delays you getting your food right when it's ready. The staff were friendly and efficient (except for the payment thing) and the place is cash only. read more

Beware of cross-contamination. Got the veggie burrito this AM and found a big chunk of meat when I got to the bottom. Barf. Additionally, potato's were undercooked, oily and not seasoned whatsoever. Tortilla was raw and not steamed. My burrito was luke-warm upon first bite. This place is always busy so apparently the focus is more on expediting food delivery than quality. Disappointing because this used to be a good breakfast burrito spot. If you're walking down Main Street, all sandy from the beach, and wondering which food joint it's acceptable to have sandy apparel in, this is the one. Nick's struck me as the place that surfers come to after surfing, college kids can afford, and families can enter without their kids being deemed "too loud." This place offers burritos and sandwiches in a very casual atmosphere. As others have mentioned, it is still cash only. You order at the counter and then when your number is called for your food, you go up to the counter, pay, and then get your food. I'm not sure why you don't pay when you order, so I was a bit confused, but it worked out fine. We settled on a breakfast burrito (for lunch, yes!) for about $7. It was so big and an amazing deal! After several locals sang the praises of Nick's breakfast burritos, I decided to try one for myself. I went on a weekday late in the morning, so there was no line. I was glad about this later, because I felt the burrito wasn't worth a wait. The location is on Main Street in Seal Beach. It's a cute area, but Nick's is unremarkable. The man who assisted me in ordering was pleasant, and the place was clean, so no issues there. The burrito itself was blah. As previous reviews noted, the potatoes were mushy and under-seasoned. The base of the burrito was pretty basic, so I asked to add tomatoes and avocado. This, of course, was extra, so the total cost was over $10. That would be OK if it was an amazing meal, but sadly, it was bland and fell flat. At least the portion size was generous. I've honestly had better (and cheaper) breakfast burritos from food trucks. After my experience at this little Seal Beach joint, I left pondering one thought...Could Seal Beach be equivalent to my small home town of San Pedro? A town so small, where the ghetto meets the sea, where no one leaves the city limits except to go to Costco, so there you will also find many things known as "the best" but they are far from "the best". I'm thinking yes. If I went with the standard yelp star verbiage, this would have been a 2 star review all the way. But the friendly trustful worker (as we were arguing over who was going to pay he said "no worries pay me after you eat"), torn and tattered outside chairs, crusty tapatillo bottles with no lids and the birdies to feed saved them. I'm not kidding hence the 3 stars above. Came here for the Breakfast Burrito even though my bacon buddy Cesar R. got shafted on the lack of bacon in his. I wasn't going to make his mistake so I kept the chorizo. If I left out the chorizo my burrito would have looked like Cesar's. Sad bacon lovers. In the end, the burrito was just ok. The items were not mixed around well before the rolling of the burrito. All the cheese seemed to be in one area and un melted. The potatoes were just a tad to hard to be in a burrito, I guess I like hash brown style better in my burritos. I tasted maybe A bite of bacon. There was plenty of chorizo though. Not bad, but certainly not my favorite bfast burrito and surely not the best. My friend had the Ham and Swiss sandwich and it was a looker. He seemed to enjoy it as well. I hope you can understand what reviewing this deli means to me. Nick's was our ultimate kick-it spot in high school. It was the place we went to when we needed (yes, needed) to ditch class or had a case of the munchies. They offer great sandwiches, but the ultimate meal of the breakfast burrito is what made this place famous and a local favorite. I was an ovo-lacto vegetarian all throughout high school so I used to get the vegetarian burritos which is basically eggs, potatoes and cheese. Toasted, please. Now I'm an omnivore so I get bacon in it, but sometimes I opt for the original breakfast burrito which includes all of the above plus chorizo. I only get the chorizo if I know I'm not doing anything later that day. Chorizo lovers, you know what I'm talkin about. The service is always great. I fricken love those guys. There's sort of an organized chaos that goes on there that I don't really understand... or question for that matter. As for the atmosphere, it soothes my soul. It's nothing special, hardly cute, but those that love Nick's know of the warmth and happiness that fills you up when you're there. Anyway, there is not much to say. Cash ONLY!! I have been coming to this Nick's since I was a kid, so like 20+ years ago. I feel like it's a local staple. I used to go with my dad to grab sandwiches here before went strolled around Main St. When I was little, I always preferred the BLT or an Egg salad sandwich. Now that I am older, I go for the burritos. My go to: -Americano burrito with avocado I love their salsa, it's more tomato-y than anything else I feel. It's not spicy. I like my burritos with ketchup too, so I like to put both sauces on it. I feel like the same guy has been working the counter since I was little! I heard on the radio yesterday (08-30-2012) that a high surf advisory was in affect for South facing Beaches. As soon as I heard this I got my texting fingers ready and sounded the alarm to surfing buddies to see who wanted to test fate, only 1 was brave enough to challenge the Ocean with me. This morning (08-31-2012) I spent the morning at H.B. Cliffs with my girlfriend, our dog and a close friend. My friend and I paddled out and enjoyed the strong current pushing north as we battled to paddle south and stay on point & even with the American Flag reference point we worked up quite an appetite. After we got out of the water I told my buddy that my girlfriend and I were headed to Seal Beach to have breakfast burritos at Nick's and asked if he wanted to come along. I told him that in our opinion these were the best breakfast burritos we (my girlfriend and I) have ever had, of course he said 'Oh Yeah.' We arrived and found several people waiting for food, there was no line which was awesome=) and we were quickly helped. We secured a table outside so our dog could join us at breakfast. My friend ordered a classic breakfast burrito, I ordered a breakfast burrito with egg, potato, sausage & Bacon, and my girlfriend ordered a chorizo/egg burrito. Once again the burritos were absolutely devoured. I might have slipped our dog a couple pieces of sausage, egg & bacon which she loved so the verdict was 3 thumbs & 1 paw up. I do wish Nick's offered whole wheat tortillas, I wonder if I brought my own tortilla if they would make it on that, if anyone knows please let me know, either way we will be back. I only make it down to Seal Beach every two years or so, but the breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs, chorizo, cheese, potatoes and salsa is always as good as I remembered it being. Order first, pay when you pick up. CASH ONLY. I've been going to Nick's since high school for one thing and one thing only... their breakfast burrito. Add avocado and it is literally perfection, no other breakfast burrito compares in my opinion. The eggs, potatoes, chorizo, bacon and cheese (and avocado!) are mixed together so you get a little bit of everything in each bite. The salsa/red sauce is mixed in as well, but you can always opt out of you're not into it. I usually get hot salsa which doesn't make the burrito itself all that spicy. Adding spoonfuls of it to each bite is what adds some more heat. I also frequent the Los Alamitos location (which takes cards) and both equally make my mornings better. read more

Great People serving a great Breakfast Burrito. Personally I loved their breakfast burrito. It was round and rotund filled with gooey cheese, soft tender potatoes and scrambled eggs that were infused with chorizo sausage. Yum. Seriously, this burrito is the best chorizo breakfast burrito I've ever had. I think one of the keys to its success was the potato. Some places rush and serve the potato kind of undercooked or it's way overcooked and mushy. Nick's was still firm on the outside but was soft in the middle. The potatoes balanced the generous amount of cheese that was in the burrito which oh so complimented the saltiness and spiciness of the burrito. It wasn't spicy enough for me so I added the salsa provided and the Tapatio. They also had the Gringo Bandito Sauce......but I stay true with the Tapatio. So why a 4 and not a 5? Well, they didn't have other alternatives to the chorizo breakfast burrito should someone not like chorizo. Great lil' place to grab some cheap, slightly-greasy, filling food! Everything is made to order, and you can see the cooks preparing the food in the kitchen behind the cash register. Came here with my dad after a 12 mile bike ride, and left stuffed. We ordered the Healthy Breakfast Burrito and the Carne Asada Breakfast Plate. Both were hearty and super filling!! Just a tip, the burritos (and probably sandwiches too) come out super fast but the plates take longer. At least 4 other order numbers after ours came out before ours because theirs were all burritos. You order first, and then pay in the same line when you pick up your food. Because of this, the line and restaurant can get a bit crazy when it's busy. It's a pretty small place with some outdoor seating, so it can get really crowded. Some of the chairs and restaurant features are a little old and in need of updating. Nick's is a classic. Simple, good, hearty food. The classic breakfast burrito is awesome. I order it without the potatoes so that it's light enough that I can finish it. Sometimes I'm bad and add avocado. I've also had the Machaca Burrito and a Pastrami sandwich and enjoyed both of those, too! Mmmm. Service is always friendly. I think it's kind of a nice touch that you order your food, but then don't pay until it's actually ready. Parking can be tough, but that's all of Main Street. My only two minuses are small: Their salsa. No heat at all, kind of resembles tomato sauce. It's perfect salsa for my mom, who only eats cooked tomatoes and refuses to eat anything hotter than a smidge of black pepper. If you eat there, grab that Tapatio (or take it home and eat it with your own salsa.) The other minus is that they wrap the burritos in paper, and they get cold fast. Order first, receive the food, and then pay at the end (Cash Only). I ordered the healthy vegetarian burrito, which has egg whites, potato, broccoli, tomato, onion, & mozzarella cheese. My burrito was done in 5-10min, I paid, & then I took it down to the pier to eat. It was one of the best burritos I've had. At first, I was disappointed that the burrito wasn't cut in half (because I am a messy eater and can't finish a whole burrito in one sitting), but in the bag was a plastic spoon. I used the spoon to cut the burrito, and it was so easy! The burrito was fresh, tortilla warm and soft, and everything was mixed well together, in just the right amount. It was so easy to eat, it tasted fresh, and the warm tortilla melted in my mouth. I almost gave in and finished the burrito, but I didn't want to be overly full. Nick's has some of the most satisfying breakfast burritos I've ever had. Stopped by one morning with a couple friends. Reasonably priced & the ratios of the ingredients were perfect. Not much else to say really. Parking is a bit of a struggle since it's right by Seal Beach, but other than that, this place is magical. read more
