Found Nick's Deli on yelp as I was walking Main Street in Seal Beach. There a lot of other restaurants, bars, desserts in the surroundings, but decided to give Nick's a shot since there were lots of great reviews. Upon walking in, I noticed a lot of people eating burritos. I really wanted a sandwich though, so I ordered the Western Beef BBQ sandwich. It was average, the BBQ sauce tasted like it just came out a grocery store brand. My boyfriend ordered the Hot Roast Beef on sourdough. It looked ok - nothing to "wow" about it. A bit more roast beef would have been better. We sat at the side patio area with the view of the garden next door. Its a very small restaurant with bar stools available along the windows. Good yes, but definitely not the best. I think when you get into "best" territory, it's a matter of preference. Nick's is definitely well known and you can read other reviews to find out what you should order. Here are a few reasons why Nick's didn't get the full 5 stars. 1.Cupcake was stale. You know the taste when you leave something in the refrigerator uncovered? Yea, I felt like I was licking the inside of refrigerator. 2. In the breakfast burrito be sure to add avocado! 3. The breakfast burrito eggs are very fine, as opposed to fluffy scrambled eggs, me no likey. 4. The locals like to add cheese, trust me, there's enough effing cheese. Another thing I found confusing as a non-local, was the deli cashier system. You wait in line to order your food, then you receive a number (no need to scramble to find a drink from the refrigerator before you order). While waiting for your number to be called you can either choose a drink or sit and wait to be called. Once your number is called you go back to your original cashier and take your food. However the original cashier is still taking new orders, so you end up getting back in line with people that haven't ordered yet. Thus cold burrito. Finally everything was just bland. The mexican cheese was definitely a costco 3-blend and the house salsa needed work (bitter). I ended up using the tapatio instead. Tip: Out of towners are easily spotted. To blend in, be sure to wear vans, have tattoos, and look really bored all the time. Still a decent burrito, but as good as anything else on the boardwalk. read more

(Yelp review to follow) Needless to say, getting a traffic ticket was not the best way to start my maiden voyage to Nick's. I'd like to say that it was getting the ticket that soured the experience for me... but having gone with a friend we both agreed that Nick's breakfast burrito simply was NOT "the best ever". Yes, the service was friendly, but the "special tortilla" was not-so-special. It also wasn't grilled enough--so it stuck to your teeth. To be fair, the distribution of ingredients within the burrito was very judicious-- but that doesn't count for much when you're constantly wondering whether those crispy bits are pieces of bacon or bone pieces from the Chorizo. It was definitely NEC (Non Enjoyable Crispyness). Wrap all that together in a lukewarm burrito and you've got yourself 3 stars. The medium salsa it came with, however, was 4 stars. GREAT Salsa! There wasn't as much flavor as i was expecting for a breakfast burrito with chorizo and bacon. And actually there really wasn't any bacon in it. The "hot, special sauce" tasted like ketchup with red crushed chili pepper mixed in it. I'm just glad they had bottles of Tapatio hot sauce on the table. This deli has been here forever and we visit every time we are in Seal Beach!! Great place! The restaurant hasn't changed a bit either! The menu is the same with plenty of options and the sandwiches and burritos are huge! The location is perfect on the main street before the beach. The staff is always the same as well. While at Seal Beach on a Monday morning, I found myself quite close to Nick's Deli and I remembered the image of a large breakfast burrito. Having Nick's Deli bookmarked for quite some time, I trekked along Electric Avenue to find Nick's Deli. I ordered the Chorizo burrito and waited outside for the order to be ready. The cashier at the front was friendly and did everything in a jiffy because there were plenty of people in line waiting for their breakfast burrito. Within 10 minutes our burritos were ready and we grabbed some hot sauce to go. The burrito was of a decent size (not as large as some other breakfast burritos that I have seen) and there was a decent amount of egg, potatoes, and chorizo. When you bite into the burrito, it definitely tastes like egg, potatoes, and chorizo...but that was about it. There really wasn't a wow factor or an interesting perspective on the flavors. After hearing so many great things about Nick's Deli, it really was just a standard chorizo breakfast burrito where there could have been some more flavor. After eating about half of the burrito, it started to get boring and I saved the rest for another time. I have to say that I walked out of Nick's Deli slightly disappointed and I wondered if this was just another situation where I got my hopes too high and the food didn't live up to the hype.
