Disappointing service on a special occasion. My girlfriend and I had a 7:30 PM reservation to celebrate her birthday. We arrived early, checked in, and were happy to sit at the bar while we waited for our table. Our bar receipt shows we were already settled there by 6:41 PM, 49 minutes before our reservation, so we gave the restaurant plenty of time and flexibility. From where we were sitting, the restaurant certainly did not appear "slammed," as we had been told. I've included a photo taken while we were at the bar that shows what we could see at the time, along with our receipt showing the 6:41 PM timestamp. We also watched a table for two on the patio sit empty for more than 30 minutes while other guests, including walk-ins, were seated. I checked in with the hostess several times to let her know we were still waiting, but each interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming. There was very little communication about our reservation or when we could expect to be seated. By 7:36 PM, our reservation time had already passed and no one had come to get us. At that point, we decided to leave. As we walked toward the exit, the hostesses were standing near the front talking and laughing. Only as we were walking out did one of them acknowledge our reservation, at which point I told her to cancel it because we were no longer interested in staying. A staff member followed us outside and asked what had happened. We explained that we had been waiting and had watched the same patio table remain vacant for more than half an hour. She then told us that was actually the table they had been preparing to give us. That made the situation even more frustrating. We had been sitting at the bar for nearly an hour watching the table that was supposedly intended for us remain empty, yet nobody communicated that to us or made an effort to seat us until after our reservation time had passed and we were already walking out. She offered us a complimentary appetizer for the inconvenience, which we appreciated. However, by that point, the experience had already put a damper on what was supposed to be a special birthday dinner, so we politely declined. We have enjoyed this establishment in the past, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. We ended up going to another restaurant down the street, where we were immediately welcomed and received excellent service. I hope management reviews what happened that evening and addresses the lack of communication and hospitality at the front of the restaurant. A reservation, especially for a special occasion, should not leave guests feeling ignored or unwelcome. Unfortunately, after this experience, we won't be returning anytime soon.
Food at Nick's is usually very consistent. I typically order the Bistro Plate or some other Meat dish and it is cooked to perfection every time. Their Asparagus fries are also one of my favorites. Service is always intimate and outstanding, servers always seem well seasoned and experienced. I absolutely love the ambiance at Nick's it's very unique and it seems like the restaurant is kept well. I give it four stars only because I feel like their menu has some strengths, but the rest of the food is alright.
I went to Nick's on 2nd for lunch with family that came up from San Diego for a day visit. I have been to Nick's a few times and the food always hits the mark! I have never had a bad meal here. Today I had Cha Cha's Spicy Rigatoni and asked for blackened chicken on the side (we love protein ). It was so fresh, creamy, and cheesy with some Parmesan on top. I usually have the chicken piccata but decided to try this dish today. We also decided on butter cake for a sweet treat after our meal. Our waiter mentioned a lemon cake so of course we had to try that as well. The lemon cake was HUGE! And incredibly delicious. I am not sure if it is a regular menu item but if they mention it while you're there, it is so worth the try! The restaurant can get a little noisy inside but it's manageable. It is always very clean and the staff is really great at taking care of their customers. I would definitely recommend this spot for lunch, dinner, or even just some drinks at the bar.
I thought the staff was a little robotic but they were helpful and attentive. Everyone's food was delicious and filling! I had the fried chicken sammich with fries that were cooked perfectly!! We were a party of four with two appetizers (artichokes and tartar I think) and four entrees. A couple of us took leftovers so the portions were good. The tables are all very close - someone with a disability needs to be extra careful navigating through safely.
Busy even in a Monday but we got in on a bar table top, not my favorite but the service made up for it. Menu had quite the variety but what stood out was a small combo with a petite filet mignon, salad and soup of the day; perfect proportions for my appetite. My filet was cooked to perfection, with great flavor. Seviped eggs as an appetizer were good not fabulous as I had hoped, tasted like egg potato salad but beautifully plated. Hubby had a sirloin steak and baked potato, nothing stood out in his plate. Butter cake was outstanding for dessert. Simply decorated, sestinf inside and out; large bar seating. I would definitely return!
I can't stop thinking about the Original Ribeye Melt! It's cooked to a perfect medium rare, insanely flavorful, and paired with hot, crispy fries. My friend and I made the mistake of sharing one and immediately regretted it. Lesson learned: order your own. The Baby Back Pork Ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and hefty - big enough for 1-2 people to share. The Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass was firm, flaky, and a rather small portion. I needed more than just a drizzle of that amazing lemon beurre blanc! Save this spot for your next brunch outing or dinner date! The outdoor patio felt calm and cozy, while the candlelit indoors buzzed with energy. The warm, enthusiastic staff made every visit feel welcoming and fun. Final verdict: Order the Original Ribeye Melt & don't bother sharing!
Whoever said Nick's on 2nd has good food, they lied. I ordered the blackened fish sandwich, and it completely lacked flavor and seasoning. It was so bland I had to add salt just to bring it to life. Now, whoever said Nick's has the best butter cake, they were telling the truth! Ooh wee... that butter cake is GOOD. I've had butter cakes all over, and I've always sworn that Mastro's had the best one. Not anymore. Nick's officially takes the crown. The service was great, so I'll be back, but it'll be for the butter cake, not the food.
Tasty or WasteY??? A bit of both. Our first time in. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. Such a great vibe, especially for lunch time. I can only imagine how nice the dinner vibe is. My favorite things here, were the chips, salsa and guacamole. The food itself is a bit too technical! Meaning, they are adding way too many extras to try and make it different. Remember that old saying, Less is more! Try a more simple approach, so people aren't scraping ingredients off their food. There was so much added to my meal that I couldn't quite grasp how delicious the meat must have been. The wait staff was great. Very very attentive. Maybe we'll give it a second try, if we come back to Southern California.
Truly one of my favorites! Food is always amazing and service is top notch. Shrimp taquitos and butter cake are a MUST. We put our name on the waitlist around 5:30pm and was seated around 7:13pm on a Saturday night. Honestly not bad at all as we were able to walk around the area while waiting. Can't wait to come back!
The food was amazing but Evan provided the best service EVER!!! We accidentally ordered something we were allergic to and Evan said he wanted us to enjoy our meal and got us a new plate. THANK YOU SO MUCH EVAN YOU ROCK!!!
Nicks is always a five star experience! We had the Chilean Seabass and the San Francisco style cioppino with the most awesome sourdough garlic bread yummy! We had to get another round of bread just to dip in the soup! We never leave enough room for butter cake. I guess I need to get that sometime maybe just as my entire dinner. lol! Our server, Steven was awesome. He was super attentive and very nice. Did a great job!
With one night in Long Beach, so happy we choose Nick's for our get together. Shrimp Taquitos were delicious as was the Scottish Salmon and the center cut filet. Great Mixologist on staff, the martinis were consistent and "on point". Definitely recommend and encourage a reservation - place was at capacity. While it can obviously get a little loud, we opted for an outside table. In hindsight if conversation is center stage, perhaps inside despite the crowd may have been a better choice - as the roadside noise in Long Beach is not for the faint of heart. Ending with service. Having Jonathan take care of us was like winning the lottery, always present when you needed him - but never around when you didn't. 5-star service / 5-star food - will definitely be back and highly recommend.
I love Nick's so when a friend invited me to go out to Long Beach, I recommended this location. This one is in the heart of Belmont Shores. The parking is like any other metro city...street or parking garage. It's got lots of different shops and restaurants nearby. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly. The server was very nice and friendly. She was helpful with selecting options from their menu. We landed on the fried chicken, prime rib dip and the shrimp taquitos. The chicken was crisp, juicy and flavorful. It came with mashed potatoes, biscuit and gravy. The prime rib dip was also good. The bread was notably fresh and soft. The shrimp taquitos were ok. This restaurant is pretty inside. They had a fireplace at the lobby and a pretty big bar at the front. Enjoyed our time here with friends!

We went to Nick's On 2nd for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday. We sat outside and Samatha was our server. She was impeccable! The service and food were phenomenal. We were impressed how amazing every thing was. I would recommend this restaurant and we will be back! read more
Went back again because the food is just that good!! Just know that even if you have a reservation you'll probably have a bit of a wait. But the wait is worth it the food is delicious and the vibes are immaculate inside. read more

We've been coming to Nick's Restaurant week after week, and the biggest reason is the incredible bartenders who have become like family to us, Yannell, Chrissy, and Hannah. They are so much more than bartenders. They are attentive, caring, welcoming, and genuinely make every visit feel special. No matter how busy the restaurant gets, they always remember us, check in on us, and make sure everything is perfect. Their level of service is truly unlike any other. We could dine anywhere, but it's their warmth, consistency, and the personal connections they create that keep us coming back every single week. Thank you, Yannell, Chrissy, and Hannah, for always making us feel at home. Nick's is lucky to have you! read more
Nick's is our family favorite restaurant in the area! Great cocktails, food, and exceptional service! In addition, they recognize your special occasion with a treat and hand signed card. Cocktails, we started with a Cucumber Collins (my favorite) and Belevedere Vodka martinis for the boys! Martinis were very cold, as they should be! Cucumber Collins was light and delicious. I don't often get cocktails when we go out but certain places that do them right, I certainly do! Nick's is known for its cocktail program. Appetizers, we started with Deviled Eggs and Asparagus Fries! Both, as always, were excellent! I personally don't eat Deviled Eggs but I do at Nicks. Battered and fried, so good! Entrees, we all ordered our usuals! My husband gets the Bistro Plate, Petite Filet with salad and soup. He always raves about the filet, small but mighty! The soup was roasted red bell pepper and he stated best soup he has had! Both my son and I get the Prime Rib Beef Dip. Best Beef Dip around! Both he and I left with halves to enjoy for lunch another day! Generous portions of meat and their brioche buns are great! Dessert, Warm Butter Cake service with ice cream and a berry compote. Definitely our most favorite dessert anywhere. I have traveled all over the US, and this still remains my favorite dessert. Just amazing! In addition, they served a chocolate cake with a lighted candle for my birthday! We were here on a Monday night (with reservations) and it was packed. When we left, there was a long wait. None of the other places close by appeared busy. I will say Nick's has a great business model. They keep their menus limited, but great offerings. They have expanded to other areas as well. Service is exceptional. Our server was Laura and she was amazing! She also said Happy Birthday several times and let us know there were three other parties celebrating their birthdays tonight! read more

Came here with a friend this past Friday. Lots of people in the area recommended Nick's for lunch as we toured the 2nd street shops. We got there right at 11 am when they opened. Very cool looking restaurant with mostly outdoor dinning. They have a large bar area and indoor seating as well on high chairs. Our waiter was Sebastian and was a very nice young man. He helped us go over some of the menu items and also gave us some directions on how to get to the downtown area, and aquarium etc. We ordered the Prime Rib sandwich and the chicken sandwich. We both got fries and iced teas. The chicken was a buttermilk sandwich sliced into thirds, and came with lots of condiments and I believe havarti cheese. It was very good and a huge portion. My friend loved the Prime rib. Great place for lunch when shopping along the 2nd street area of Long Beach. read more
We had a free night in Long Beach on a Friday night with nowhere to dine, and Nick's was recommended to us. So we arrived here, and proceeded to be enchanted with a fine repast. I opened with bright red chunks of Tuna Tartare with crisp wontons. More wontons were presented on request; they went nicely with the tasty Deviled Eggs I also ordered. And, a bowl of Clam Chowder that was thick rather than runny, and crammed with potatoes and clams, was another welcome starter. Then for my main I was pleased to receive a large portion of rich orange-hued Scottish Salmon alongside flavorful Mashed Potatoes and Sauteed Spinach. Diane was just as delighted with her large hunk of golden Chilean Seabass with a double order of Mashed Potatoes. This restaurant's reputation for outstanding seafood is clearly deserved. My wife and I came here to celebrate a special occasion and we couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate. We were seated immediately as we had a brunch reservation, our servers were very attentive, cycles of walks periodically as we were seated outside. Weather was perfect so it was nice to have outdoor seating, otherwise we would prefer indoor seating. Parking can be a bit tricky as you can do some street parking with pay meters, park on residential street (free), or park in lots that are mostly paid parking. My wife and I decided on three items, which came in huge portions which was a surprise to us but it was very delicious. 1. Spinach & Artichoke Dip - Our starter dish, very plentiful in dips and chips, this was the perfect dish to start but we felt like we were very fulfilled just with the starter dish. Our server offered extra chips/nachos to refill which was a kind gesture, very well made, great balance of flavors between the salsa, artichoke, and cheese dip. Highly recommend to get as a shareable dish. 2. Baby Back Pork Ribs - Holy moly, the portion for this dish is massive, the pork ribs came off the bone very easily, super juicy, and it came with a side of fries and salad which was a plus to the dish. 3. Chicken Piccata - Similar to the pork ribs, this dish is massive, a large amount of portions. Came with mash potatoes which I'm not really a fan of usually, but this set of mash potatoes was very savory and melts in mouth very easily, super delicious. Chicken is very well made, juicy, and easily cut. Highly recommend. Overall, this is a amazing restaurant, we were gifted a complimentary/celebratory dessert as well for our special occasion which was very generous. Love everything about this restaurant, top quality food, great service, and very lovely vibe/ambiance. Can't wait to come back to try other menu items. read more

Came out to celebrate a birthday last night. The place did get full quick. The service was fantastic all around from the moment we walked in to the time we left. Everyone was on their A game here. We got to dine outdoors. Not a bad way to enjoy dinner. The food was very good, delicious. Small menu but great specials. Couldn't as for a better way to dine. Parking: it's in the Belmont shore part of Long Beach, so it's mainly metered street parking. There is a tiny lot with 2/3 spaces reserved for Nick's directly behind Nick's. Service: you check in with the hostess and they'll get you seated right away. The waiters and waitresses were very kind. Food came out fresh and hot. Ambiance: the ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. Loved the aesthetic. Great for all types of guests, solo diners like myself, date night for you and SO, or group dinners after work! Food: Spinach & artichoke dip with salsa (10/10)- the spinach artichoke dip was soo good, perfect ratio of spinach to cheese. The dip was rich but not overwhelming. It was baked to perfection. I could not stop eating it. Prime rib melt (1000/10)- it's nice and light, everything just melts in your mouth. The brioche was so light, so soft and buttery. The prime rib was so tender and flavorful. It was delicious dipped with the Au Jus. read more

The ambience is pretty cool kind of fancy kind of cozy kind of chill. People go in flip-flops and are also dressed up. It's definitely a mixed vibe. The food is good. The spinach artichoke dip is delicious. You need to order!! their drinks are OK probably could be better. We had a spicy jalapeño watermelon. Margarita and mai tai. It was a busy day. It was Valentine's Day, but the staff at the front and our waitress were very nice. Will definitely be visiting again. read more

As much as I appreciate the mixed bag of Belmont shore, I did not know fine dining was an option. Nick's definitely met the mark, with a special commendation to the service staff, who were impeccably professional, including Cristina, who took excellent care of us. In fact, I followed her suggestion to have the veggie burger with Gruyère cheese and grilled onions. The burger was delicious and the veggie patty is made with real veggies. The side of spicy broccoli was interesting although was a bit too Al dente for me. My friend enjoyed the aged top sirloin. We were perhaps too disciplined and did not partake in dessert, although the choices were very tempting. Respectable classic cocktail and wine list. Ambience is just swanky enough without being stuffy. I highly recommend reservations as it was a full house on Monday night! We had a great evening here! read more

Cozy neighborhood place with minimal parking. We did a ride share. I called ahead and got a table, which was great since they were busy. The halibut was the best one I've ever had. Cooked perfectly. The sides were also great. I don't even like spinach, but this one was great. Steaks were amazing, too. The butter cake dessert was surprisingly good. There's no reason to not absolutely love this place! Every time I come here, it exceeds my expectations. Nick's on 2nd only hires the best servers and bartenders. The food is delicious, fantastic cocktails, and the BEST and I mean the best service. The bar is a great place to enjoy and sit for drinks, and the outdoor seating is still nice although I prefer to be seated inside. The ambience is suited for a date night or girls night. They have a menu with plenty of variety. read more
Always love going to Nick's, my bestie and I decided to come here today for an early dinner. We sat outside since it was a nice day. Lots of patio seating area which is nice to people watch. Location was clean and nicely decorated. I ordered the special today which was a blackened Alaskan Halibut fish sandwich. It comes with a side so I ordered the Nick's house special salad. The seasoning on the fish was delicious and it was cooked to perfection. I loved the salad and the dressing was delicious! My bestie and I split a fried devil's egg, it was really tasty. Service was awesome! Our waiter was super nice, friendly, professional, and tentative. You can never go wrong coming to Nick's. This is one of our favorite restaurants to go to in Belmont Shores. read more
I don't know if I will be in the area again so I must give credit where credit is due! If you have been heee before you know I normally don't give 5 stars on the first visit but they deserve it! We sat at the bar and had dinner. Definitely suggest making a reservation. We started with the zucchini fries and the deviled eggs. First time having fried deviled eggs and they were delicious! The zucchini fries were hot and crispy and the ranch was also very good. Now the main attraction-what I came here for-the sea bass! It was delicious! Nice crispy edges but soft and buttery flakes of fish! Highly recommend! The restaurant is cute and has some outdoor seating. Nice playlist if you're ever in the area-check them out! Everything was really good and the pricing is fair. Big difference in the ambiance from inside seating vs outside seating. If possible, try sitting inside for a more high energy experience. Highly recommended the Chilean sea bass and the mashed potatoes read more

Service, food ambiance all amazing like normal. The soup to go however was extremely expensive to go.Again! Not sure what an average oz is for a 12.00 bowl of soup to go is and maybe quite possibly I am 100% wrong. So what is an average amount of soup bowl to go? Asking for a friend. read more

I was craving a good cioppino and stumbled upon this place during my search. I got a spot right at the bar and was greeted right away. All of the bartenders/servers were attentive and kind. Cioppino was good...the bread was fresh and great! Parking: I was able to find a spot in the nearby residential area with no issues. There's paid parking along the street but why pay when there's a ton of free parking in the area with just a little bit of a walk. I want to come back and try more things on the menu. They were definitely busy for lunch during the weekday. read more
A trendy upscale eatery on the Belmont shore district in Long Beach. We visited there on a Friday a bit after noon time. Parking was a bit of a problem as the area was really busy at that time of the day. The place was almost full by the time we walked in the door. Luckily we got seated almost immediately albeit it was outside seating. It was a bit noisy as it's right next to a thorough fare. Order was taken soon after we were served hot water with honey and lemon. We tried 3 varieties of their sandwiches, a crispy chicken, a filet magnon and a grilled fish. The filet magnon was served with a cup of soup and a salad. The meat was done properly albeit a bit small in size. The crispy chicken had piles of greens, cheese and sauce on a sesame bun. The chicken was crispy but a little blend. The accompany French fries were very good. The grilled fish sandwich was probably the best with lots of fresh green, sauce on a large round slight toasted bun. It came with a baked bacon Brussels sprout as a side dish which was excellent. Overall service was very good. Servings were generous but just a bit pricy. Might visit again when in the neighborhood. read more
Came on a weekend to have a little brunch snack with some drinks. I got an apple spritz and my friend got an espresso martini. We also got the asparagus fries and everything was amazing! Chrissy and Jenelle gave us the best service. Parking is super easy right out on the street metered parking. The bathrooms are super clean and the ambience is very classy and relaxing. They also have an outside patio that I'd like to try out next time I come. We'll definitely be back. read more

This is my fave restaurant in Long Beach! The food is always solid and the Cioppino is straight out of San Fran! I also love the prime rib dip! Drinks are amazing and the service is ALWAYS five stars! Chrissy and Yannel are some of my favorite bartenders but you can't go wrong with all of the staff here. Ambience is upscale but also Long Beach relaxed. Street parking is always accessible and it's located in the heart of beautiful Belmont Shore. The patio area is spacious and wraps around the entire restaurant with great people and even better dog watching! The bathrooms are a spa-like experience with the best selling soap and lotion in the LBC! Don't sleep on the butter cake and if you're too stuffed-take it to go! read more

Sometimes it can be difficult during weekend lunch hours, but there are also several public parking lots around the area.

They have an enclosed patio so not completely open to the outdoors but lots of light and air. Also warm!

We sat outside along the street. The atmosphere from our seating area was a city scene. We were there at sunset and enjoyed the changing light, but could not actually see the sunset as you might be wanting.

No. Not anymore. They ask you to tie your dog to the fence if you bring your dog with you to dine on the patio

They don't offer vegan dishes they do have some vegetarian teams you can order but I suggest if your looking for a vegan meal try Seabirds I really like that place and it's a nice place to go for a date....
