Where do I start! I loved my dinning experience here! The one negative was a bit of a long wait but after eating here I can totally see why, the food is amazing! I ordered the pork ribs and my boyfriend ordered the steak and everything on both plates was delicious! I would highly recommend the steak though it was just WOW! Even my skinny margarita was delicious. The host was very friendly and attentive, love friendly hosts. Would highly recommend! read more

My second time at this location! I still got the Bistro Plate for lunch! I ordered my filet mignon medium, but it was still too bloody for my liking so the waitress checked on me and had the steak cooked a little more and then the chef brought it out for me! The tomato bisque was delicious as well as that kale salad! Mom ordered the cioppino- it was yummy filled with seafood goodness. We didn't have room for dessert this time. Nick's was awesome. There were 6 of us in our party and we all enjoyed our entrees. Our server, Sheila, was very kind and helpful. I got the Bistro plate and it was absolutely delicious and the perfect amount of food. Only disappointment is that there are no Nick's restaurants in Houston, where we're from. But when we're back in Long Beach we'll definitely be back. read more

tl;dr Everything on the menu is consistently good - down to the sandwiches This is hands down, my favorite restaurant in Long Beach. Lunch + Dinner. They've got something on the menu, to satisfy any craving. My favorite is the Bistro Plate. It gives you enough, without doing too much, and allows room for my most FAVORITE thing on the menu - the. butter. cake. OMG. Sometimes, I just order it to-go lol. It's that good! Breakfast. Go. Just go. Everything is good. The chicken + waffles, the Chilaquiles, the breakfast burrito, the waffle... I'm getting hungry just typing this. What does suck though, is, I believe breakfast is during the weekends, only. Drinks. Drinks are always delicious. Good Champagne + Wine selection Make reservations. This place gets super packed - even on the most randomest of weekdays. It's just that good. Service They have amazing and attentive servers. I have only ONE con and it's just pretty much a Long Beach thing, but the parking can be annoying. read more

We loved our dinner at Nick's! I recommend having reservations... its worth saving your time. I shared the evening with my husband and father, who was visiting us. The restaurant is a bit loud, so my group opted to sit outside with the heaters on and it was perfect! We were warm and still able to enjoy a good conversation. We started our meal with the spinach and artichoke dip, which was AMAZING. To drink, my husband and I both got the Cucumber Collins. It was semi-sweet and really refreshing. For dinner, we had the cioppino and it was so damn good!!!! We each love cioppino and Nick's did not dissappoint!! read more

This was my 1st time here and I absolutely loved it!! Came there for Brunch before a concert and it was a perfect choice! The place had an outdoor patio and great on a perfect day! Incredible experience. This is a high scale place with the comfort of eating with the family in a low- key holiday. The staff is welcoming and professional while they make you feel comfortable all with a smile. Great appetizer was the shrimp tacitos. There were 5 jumbo shrimp delicately wrapped in a flour tortilla covered in peco, spicy sauce with an avocado sauce. We both ordered the southern fried chicken. read more

We had concert tickets up at Long Beach State so we stopped here for a quick bite. I really thought Nick's was going to be a casual bar and grill but its actually a nice and dimly lit dinner house. Lots of tables inside or an a large wraparound patio. I hated the music they were playing but everything else about the place was lovely. They have a nice bar with big screens in the center of the room but the tables are large and spacious and quite romantic and intimate. Service was top notch. A decent cocktail and beer list and an inventive menu. My wife loves filet mignon and she was thrilled that they have a combo meal with soup, salad and very petite filet. It was perfect for her. My sliced ribeye sandwich was quite good, served with grilled onions on some very beefy toast. Delicious. Not cheap but a really nice local dinner house. read more

I have heard so many great things about this restaurant, so I was beyond excited to try it out for brunch today. My parents were finally coming to Long Beach to visit, so I had to take them to a place that wouldn't disappoint. We decided on brunch but I will definitely have to come back for lunch and dinner! My dad tried the carrot muffin, which was delicious! The spices were strong and complemented the sweetness. My mom decided to try the short rib eggs Benedict and I was so impressed. There was so much delicious and flavorful fall apart short rib and the poached eggs were perfectly cooked. It also had the perfect amount of hollandaise, not too much that drowns out the taste of the other toppings. My dish was Omar's skillet. It was so filling and ended up being enough food for two meals for me! The dish included black beans, hash browns, chorizo, two eggs, pico, salsa, jalapeños, roasted onions,, cheese, and avocado. The black beans and hash browns were a great starchy base for everything. I had the eggs poached and the runny yolk just made everything so creamy. The jalapeños gave the dish a great kick and the avocado was perfect to cook down the palate if jalapeños are a little too spicy for you, but to be honest, I love spice. If you are looking for a classy place to have a meal, whether it be brunch, lunch, or dinner, definitely take a look at this place!! read more

My fiance and I love eating here. In fact we celebrated 2 of our anniversaries here! I recommend the outdoor patio for the ocean breeze and glimpse of the lively 2nd street. The staff are so welcoming and treat us like family every visit. I highly recommend! read more

So we went here with 7 friends, and they accommodated us at the booth. My favorite appetizer! Deviled eggs here. I don't like DE but they deep fry them on the outside! If there's anything I've learned about food, it's that see frying anything is good. I had the chilean sea bass, while a friend of mines got the tuna tartar and another friend got the filet minon. All meals came out hot and tasty. Service was good and I know from the last time I was here, I kept thinking of the fried chicken . That ish Was the bomb, but I had to stay Calorie saavy, so i got fish. Believe me, I was day dreaming of the fried chicken. read more

Came here for dinner on a Thursday with a friend! I was impressed to find easy parking in a lot nearby. They have a great patio and nice wine list -- we both started with a Pinot Noir that was pretty good. Good selection of entrees -- went for a homemade veggie burger that was pretty delicious, though the bun was a tiny bit too buttery. For a side, I got the marker vegetables which I really enjoyed (green beans with a sun dried tomato pesto). Service was great though a little hard to flag them down at times -- seemed busy. Wait was a little longer than normal, but this is one of my favorite spots to go to on 2nd street. This time I got the steak salad which was really good! Wow I knew Nicks was good because I've visited their Manhattan Beach location before, but I really enjoyed my lunch visit here. The asparagus fries are a must order, especially if you love ranch dressing like I do. They are a nicks original! The cioppino here was probably the best I've ever had and I usually order it if I see it on any menu because I love seafood. I convinced my mom to order it because I knew she would love it and she really did! She wouldn't stop raving about how fresh the seafood was. The shrimp were really large and the sea bass and salmon melted in my mouth! The Scottish salmon was also extremely fresh and I really enjoyed the vegetable medley of spinach and bok choy that came with it. My husband got the blackened fish burger, but didn't seem to enjoy it as much as my mom and I enjoyed our dishes. It was also messy to eat but he really like the side of green beans he chose, minus the bacon bits. The only disappointment we had was the market salad. It was nothing special. Service was great and parking took a little effort but we were able to find a spot relatively easily on a side street. read more

What a fun place for lunch! The wait was 30 minutes for two on a Saturday so we opted for the bar. The service was excellent and very attentive. The food was perfect and the menu was unique and diverse. Everything looked good so it was hard to pick just one entree. We started with the fried deviled eggs and they were a small twist on a classic dish. The fried egg with a sprinkle of bacon on top was perfect. My entree was the prime rib dip sandwich with fries. Only wish I had was to have some carmalized onions on the sandwich as well but can't be too picky! My guest got the meatloaf and the presentation was so pretty and different. Again, another twist on a timeless classic dish. Last but not least, do not leave Nick's on 2nd without getting the butter cake. You guys... it was SO good. I'm day dreaming about the next time I can come here and get a nice glass of red wine and that warm butter cake. YUM! read more

This place was so good! And super trendy inside, with a good crowd. I went with a friend of mine and we ordered everything and nothing disappointed, the spinach dip as an appetizer was amazing! (I'm a big spinach dip girl and it was great, be sure to ask for extra chips from the beginning because they don't give enough). Our waiter suggested we do that, he was so nice. Then I had the ribs *insert chefs kiss* --they were so good! I had fries as a side and my friend had the fish sandwich, that she devoured in 2 mins. Then the butter cake, ugh also amazing! We asked for ceviche, although we know they had just opened and breakfast was being served, however they were more than accommodating to get us ceviche. Even the tableware matched everything about this restaurant. I enjoyed the wood piece table wear and the set up. To start, we were brought tostadas. It looked like a couple of them may have been made with nopale, they were green. They included a roasted mild salsa with the tostadas. The presentation of the ceviche was stunning! They gave us a small jar of their salsa macha, which is an oil based red seed chili. It's amazing on everything, but especially on top of the ceviche. The portion was generous. They also gave us more tostadas and crackers. They also have unique desserts, I think I've read they make their ice cream in house and they had flavors like beet and avocado. Definitely need to try the next time I return. I highly recommend this place. I cannot wait to return to try their breakfast and other entrees. My original post: Second time here. Breakfast today was California omelette. PAINFULLY bland and under seasoned. It had hardly any bacon or cheese. Practically none. Lots of avocado but nothing else. Eggs taste like nothing. "Crispy hash browns " were mush with no flavor. Toast was fine. Soooo. Breakfast was $27 before tip for eggs and potatoes and a low shelf vodka. I'm sorry, but $11 for a tiny Titos and soda for breakfast is RIDICULOUSLY over priced. It's breakfast people. Get some flavor and cut your drink price. I won't return. ANYPLACE can give you a better breakfast of the same meal and for $15 instead of $30. Update: since my original post of this review, I received a nasty note from the manager. Not cool. I'm not being unfair. This is my second time eating overpriced, flavorless food at Nicks. PERIOD. UPDATE: Benjamin S. (manager): You took a name off a credit card and posted it here to be spiteful. one of my favorite spots in Laguna Beach. The food at Nick's is absolutely delicious. I genuinely DREAM about their steak sandwich. It has caramelized onions, melted cheese, and the combination is just perfect. It is seriously one of the most delicious sandwiches I've ever had. I think about it all the time and would come back just for that sandwich alone. Their vodka pasta was also really good. The flavor was definitely there, but when we went, it was missing a little bit of salt. Once you added some, it was much better. Other than that, I really enjoyed it. Now, the fried asparagus has to be one of my favorite appetizers EVER. The crunch is absolutely perfect, and the ranch dipping sauce that comes with it is so good. It's such a simple appetizer, but somehow they make it incredibly delicious. Definitely one of my must orders here. And the shrimp taquitos are another favorite. They are SO good and honestly hard to stop eating. Between the fried asparagus and shrimp taquitos, I could probably make a whole meal out of the appetizers. The service was also really good. Our waiters were very nice, and the food came out pretty quickly, so we never felt like we were waiting around for anything. The ambiance was nice and comfortable. It wasn't too loud, but it also wasn't overly quiet, so it had a good balance. We sat outside, which was nice, although next time I would probably choose indoor seating. That was totally my fault because I forgot to specify that I wanted to sit inside when we arrived. Overall, I really love Nick's. Yesterday, we visited Nick's on 2nd Street in Long Beach, a restaurant we frequent about 30 times a year. The atmosphere was exceptional, as it always is, especially on a Friday when the entire street is bustling with patrons eager to dine at one of the many restaurants, coffee shops, pastry shops, banks, and clothing stores. Despite the challenging parking situation, we enjoy spending time there. We had to wait for an hour and a half to be seated, but after a long day at work, we decided to stay. Our waiter was extremely friendly, and I ordered a delicious mocktail. Although I had intended to put my phone away and simply enjoy my meal, I did manage to take a photo of the crab cakes. For appetizers, we had shrimp taquitos, which were perfect, and asparagus fries, which were good but could have been improved by steaming the asparagus a bit longer. The food finally arrived, but the crab cakes were a letdown, with a dry coating, like an English muffin top..and minimal sauce, lacking the brightness of lemon. However, the crab meat itself was excellent, and a lighter coating would have been preferable. On the other hand, the peanut coleslaw and mashed potatoes were enjoyable. The manager's exceptional service, rating a 10/10, made up for the dish's shortcomings. She recommended other options, including the Chilean Sea Bass, which I hadn't had in years due to my preference for salmon. At her suggestion, I tried the Sea Bass, which was outstanding, earning a 9/10. The manager checked in to ensure my satisfaction and offered dessert, but we were too full from the drinks and appetizers. Her customer service was unparalleled, and we plan to return. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at Nick's on 2nd in Long Beach and I couldn't recommend it enough! Our waitress, Hannah, was fantastic and made the experience even more enjoyable. To start, we ordered some drinks that were absolutely amazing. My personal favorite was the Jalapeño watermelon drink - it was fresh and not overly sweet, with a natural flavor. Moving on to the food, we ordered several entrees and every single one was delicious. The asparagus fries were a unique and tasty appetizer - a suggestion would be to eat them as soon as they arrive as they taste best when they're fresh and hot. The soup of the day was French Onion and it was the perfect comfort food on a rainy day. The shrimp taquitos were a standout dish - the clever presentation with the tail left on for dipping in the spicy sauce was a real wow factor. For our main course, my wife and I shared the sea-bass which was buttery and delicious. The only critique would be the smashed potatoes, which had a slight artificial taste. However, this was a minor detail in an otherwise extraordinary meal. Finally, for dessert, we couldn't resist trying the butter cake which was incredibly delicious, but definitely left us in a sugar coma! Made reservations for two on a Tuesday night at 6:30---not exactly prime time and certainly not a large party. When I arrived I was escorted to my table---outside on the patio. Long Beach in January---especially at night--- gets chilly. It was low 40s that night---the diners appeared bundled for a Nor'easter---and I said no thanks. Although there were heaters, the plastic drapes covering the patio had gaps and the heaters didn't have a chance against the wind. I asked to be seated inside and was told those tables were for diners with reservations. Indoor reservations? No, simply reservations. Well that's what I had!!!! Some condescending tall boy then recommended I sit at the bar for an hour and wait until something might "possibly" open up. Instead I walked right across the street to Saint and Second. Warm, inviting, not nearly as cramped as Nick's and a manageable decibel level. The food was outstanding----the service was perfect---not the least bit condescending----in short, a truly enjoyable experience. At the end of my meal, my cell phone rang---it was Nick's letting me know a table was ready !!! The gal on the phone was soooooo excited to tell me that after nearly two hours---my reservation was finally honored! Not sure where Nick gets its people or its nerve but I do know I will never be back. As a New Yorker I can tell you that 2nd Street isn't all that----and Nick's is even less. My family and I stopped at this restaurant for lunch and were impressed by the warm welcome we received upon entering. The hostess, a sweet and attentive woman, led us to a lovely patio table overlooking the beautiful California Sunday afternoon. That would have been enough to make our day, but then we met our server, Sam. She was incredibly sweet, intelligent, and wonderful. Sam helped us decide on drinks that complemented the weather and our desire for some relaxing family time. She also recommended an appetizer that I would have happily ordered as an entree--the Shrimp Taquitos. They were absolutely delicious! My wife and daughter quickly ordered their entrees: the Top Sirloin and the Scottish Salmon. I was torn between the Chilean Sea Bass and the Macadamia Encrusted Halibut, but Sam's expert advice helped me choose the halibut. It was a fantastic choice, and I was thrilled with Sam's recommendation. The presentation, taste, and service of our food were all impeccable. It was an absolute delight! Although we were too full for dessert at the time, we returned later to pick up an order of Butter Cake, a Sam recommendation. It was just as delicious as the rest of our meal. I can't wait for our next trip to Belmont Shore to experience the great food, ambiance, and service that we had at this establishment. Walked in for a business lunch at noon on a friday. My friend who lives in LB recommended Nicks. After the reviews, I was super excited. But then... We walked in and they said 25 minutes so we were about to leave but then miraculously they had a table open up. They just needed a couple minutes. Yay we thought. They must have started a new check in process as they had to ask name, first and last and phone number? We waited outside and they got us. Then asked for name, phone and email again. Wow. It's super noisy in this restaurant so not the best for business. We had 3 in our party. 2 of us got the ahi sandwich ($17) and one got the veggie burger ($14). I was surprised not to find an ahi salad and when I asked, the server said they used to have one but no longer. It took 35 minutes to get the food. We had to keep time cause we were short on it as we had another appt. I love rare steaks and seared ahi. This ahi patty was so thick and raw. It was like eating a big chunk of raw tuna that wasn't seasoned at all. I got the salad side and one of us got the fries. The fries were much better. Server was slow to fill our waters and never came to ask how the food was. Really wanted to like this place. My friend likes it. Probably better for social dining and night scene. After a disappointing experience at another restaurant, we turned to Google and stumbled upon this gem, thanks to a friend's recommendation. I truly can't say enough wonderful things about this restaurant! We were in town on a family vacation and celebrating our son's birthday when we came across this place and decided to give it a try. We are SO glad we did! From the food to the service, everything was absolutely amazing. My husband and one of my sons had the meatloaf, I had the cioppino, and my other son had the cheeseburger--and every single dish was delicious! Disappointed with Service and Pet Policy My visit to Nick's on 2nd in Long Beach was quite disappointing. Upon arrival, the staff seated my party, which included a small, well-behaved emotional support animal. However, we were later asked to move to the patio and eventually requested to tie our 5-pound dog outside on the sidewalk by the manager. While I understand that not all restaurants accommodate pets, it was upsetting to be asked to move and tie our emotional support animal outside after already being seated. I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Nick's on Second! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality, and the atmosphere was cozy yet elegant--perfect for a night out. The staff was incredibly attentive without being overbearing, and they made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The food was phenomenal! We started with the guacamole and chips, which was fresh and flavorful. For the main course, I had the steak, and it was cooked to perfection--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The sides were equally impressive, especially the mashed potatoes, which were rich and creamy. The cocktails were also top-notch, and I could tell the bartender put a lot of care into each drink. this is my first review, my partner has been telling me that I have such an opinion of places, I should be telling people about them, so I am-GO TO NICK'S! this restaurant is one of the best meals I've had in quite some time we love coming here! and it's great when the staff knows you(or at least pretends like they do!) i LOVE bbq and let me tell you, their backyard bbq chicken is one of my favorites, you don't even need a sharp knife don't believe me, try it! those biscuits are as good as my Thanksgiving day rolls, and the mashed potatoes!! this is like Home Cooking! the staff is professional and suggestive, which helps when you see so many things you want! we've been there about 4 times, and I can't seem to stop having the chicken! the chef must love what he's doing because it shows! the only drawback ... We had such a wonderful experience at Nick's on 2nd, and a huge part of that was thanks to our amazing server, Sebastian! From the moment we were seated, Sebastian made us feel genuinely welcomed. He was incredibly friendly and personable, just an all-around awesome human being. He took the time to walk us through the menu, offered helpful insights and recommendations, and answered all our questions with patience and a great attitude. One thing we really appreciated was how attentive he was. Our water glasses were never empty, and we never once had to flag him down. He just had this natural way of being there at the perfect time without ever being intrusive. It's clear he truly cares about providing a great experience. If you get the chance to dine here, definitely ask for Sebastian. He's a gem of a server and made our visit even more enjoyable. Im a bougie girl hehe...very... I like everything a certain way and unapologetically enjoy lux experiences okay :') . Maestros, Niku X all of that with no special occassion...and Im still choosing to spend my birthday with Nick's :) aside from the model looking ken doll bartender who is so kind and attentive (everyone knows to whom I'm referring :'D ), the service is UNBIASED AND CONSISTENT. everytime I come I know Im going to be treated well ! do you know what that means to me? We decided to sit at the bar and were greeted by the fantastic staff members - Nader, Kelly, and Jacob. They were all so friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. What made the experience even worse was that she tried to justify the poor quality by saying we came in late and that the food isn't the same at that time. That's simply not an acceptable excuse. If a restaurant is open and serving customers, the quality of the food should be consistent no matter what time you walk in. After going back and forth, she eventually increased the discount to 50%, but still refused to remove the meal from the bill, even though we barely touched it because it was inedible. We weren't looking for a free meal--we just expected food that matched the quality a restaurant should serve and customer service that takes legitimate concerns seriously. Unfortunately, this experience fell far below those expectations, and I won't be returning.
