I've never had a good experience at Nick's, and I've tried a few times. When I've gone in person, the staff was often impatient and aloof, and if I sat at the bar, I was largely ignored. The food was always "OK," but nothing I craved- more than anything, it was just convenient. The final straw came today when I ordered on GrubHub, and 9 minutes before it was supposed to be delivered, they cancelled the order because they "couldn't fulfill it." What does that even mean? They had 40 minutes to figure that out. They could've called me to communicate the issue, and I would have likely picked something else. But... no. Again, lack of care for the customer. I have been to many restaurants and I have tried many steaks, and hands down, this is my new favorite restaurant of all time. From the appetizers, to the salad, soup, main course, and the dessert! Came by on a Sunday evening with my friend and usually there is a waiting list but surprisingly we got a table right away in their outdoor patio. We Ordered: -Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass -shrimp taquitos -salmon poke tacos -salty pear cocktail -ipa beers My visits here never disappoints and everything we ordered was delicious. Normally like Nicks but today was a vast departure from their usual level of good service and decent food. To start off we ordered OJ, pancakes and the skinny omelet, our usual. Received the OJ, then realized we didn't want ice in it(2/3 of the drink was ice). So we asked to remove the ice before even taking a sip. I figured they'd remove the ice and top off the rest of the small cup with OJ. Nope, they simply removed the ice and gave it back to us with cup half full (see the pic). Food arrived and the bacon had been shredded and is super thin. What happened to this place? We've been coming here for a while now and have noticed the bacon changing from thick cut Nueske bacon but nothing like today. See the pic of the bacon, it was a joke. The pic is how it arrived. I asked them for new bacon and when we did get the new bacon it was burnt to a crisp, inedible! What a fail. Also my fav the skinny omelet usually comes with avocado slices drizzled with a vinaigrette but today it had mashed avocado and no vinaigrette, just completely lacking in flavor. Top EVERYTHING off, ordered sourdough toast on the side. And that never showed up. I never bothered following up because I was so resigned to how crummy an experience I had at Nicks today. For $50 including tip for bfast for two, I expect much more. I could find comparable food at half the price elsewhere. I was really torn up because I've always enjoyed Nicks but today's experience really soured us on the whole, service and kitchen wise. read more

This restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Long Beach on 2nd St. I found street parking a few blocks away. We made a reservation and had to wait over an hour which is why I'm docking off one star. It was SO packed and I was a little disappointed that making a reservation clearly didn't do much since we had to wait so long. We ordered the Asparagus Fries and the Bacon Deviled Eggs for the table. Both apps were unlike anything I've ever had before. LOVED the deviled eggs, highly recommend those. For my main dish, I ordered the Pan Seared Scottish Salmon without mashed potatoes, and it came with a side of kale. The salmon was cooked to perfection, the capers and dijon sauce complimented the fish so well. The filet size is pretty generous, too. Our waiter was awesome and super friendly. Obviously a very popular spot so you may have to wait a little bit to get seated but it's worth it for the great food! read more

Food was amazing as always. This is not our first time here and each time the food are spectacular. Service was attentive. We made reservation and we arrived and our table was already ready. We ate New York prime. Cooked medium. Very flavorful. Chilean sea bass was on point. Cooked perfectly. We also ate the fried chicken. Fried golden brown and juicy white meat. And of course the butter cake was just buttery and full of deliciousness. They gave us a card with all their signature for our one year anniversary. Very thoughtful and kind. If you don't have a reservation please plan on waiting 45-90 minutes, we waited about an hour for our table on a Friday night. Weird because this place is average. Waiter was super awkward, the vibe was super off, our beers took legitimately 15 minutes to come out, when asked about it the bartender was hurrying over with the drinks and overheard us ask the waiter, she copped an attitude regarding changing the keg, that's fine but give us a heads up instead of leaving us wondering. I did enjoy the shrimp taquitos, recommended by the server, but unfortunately the shrimp were a bit over cooked. This is our tried and true reliable for birthdays, anniversaries, and just wanting to treat ourselves to a nice dinner locally. It has maintained its quality through the years. We've had a few experiences with less than stellar servers, but most of them are great, especially if you come at lunch. Just don't sit at the bar if you arrive early for a table and try to just get a drink. The bartenders are only interested in you if you become their own, proprietary customer. That's the one odd foible about this place. The sea bass dinner is reliably delicious, and my husband loves their buttermilk fried chicken. We've experimented with sandwiches and finger foods such as the deviled eggs, and they're good, but we always come back to the main dinners. Their mixed drinks are good, as are the spiced nuts at the bar. It's always loud and difficult to hear, so don't expect to have a quiet, intimate conversation. It's not that sort of place. This is a great neighborhood bar for popping in when you want to be with a crowd or commemorating a special occasion. read more
