We drove all the way from the Richmond District in San Francisco (about 4 miles) and arrived about 30 minutes before closing time. The GM was kind enough to welcome us and explain the different types of menu items they had to offer. We had the pork tonkatsu curry over rice and pork cutlet and prawns on the side. Everything was well presented (meaning no splatters on the plate, hot and freshly prepared). The curry was flavorful with just a bit of spicy kick to it but not enough to make you chug down a cup full of water. Establishment was clean and each table had a bottle of hand sanitizer. Service was friendly. The GM told us they will be opening a restaurant in Berkeley in the near future. Will definitely become regulars when they do. I come from a workplace that absolutely worshipped at the feet of the (now closed) Japacurry food truck in SF, but honestly it never did that much for me. My pork katsu curry was delectable in every sense, luscious, poignant sauce perfectly proportioned over fork-tender katsu with impeccable breading and texture. I completely understand why their curry is special and it's their SPECIAL AWARD WINNING CURRY. I'm not exaggerating when I say there were only two bites of actual meat. The breading was also way too thick and overcooked giving it an almost burned taste. I wish you could control the spiciness level here, but they do have a chili powder that helps with that and is also delicious (half my plate turns orange when I go to town with it).
