I have been coming to this spot since I first moved to NoHo and it has become my favourite place for a quick pick up meal after work or a weekend treat! The quality is consistent, staff is always friendly, and the food is typically ready within 10-15 mins. I get the Beef Luleh combo with the tomato and jalapeño pepper and it's so tender and flavourful! The hummus is amazing as well so we like to get a large side order to keep in the fridge. Established in 2016, NoHo Cafe was voted top 100 places to eat in 2017 & 2018. I ordered the #5 chicken kabob plate,and it hit the spot. The chicken was flavorful and the rice was up there with the best. The staff were all friendly and showed pride in the business. Make sure and check in on yelp for your choice of a free soda or soup. Nice place! We got the beef luleh plate with an additional chicken luleh. Both were good, but I preferred the beef (just personal preference). Overall, a nice plate of food. Hummus was good as well, not too thin and not too thick. Flavored nicely. Kabobs didn't have a weird aftertaste like some luleh kabobs do. Appreciated the small side salad as well. We had the chicken, beef, and lamb--all pretty good but not great. The garlic sauce lacked garlic flavor, the meat was tender but a little dry, and not at the highest quality. The portions were small. A huge bright spot where the french fries! Very good, tasted like maybe they're cooked with some of the animal fat. It's where the car wash and an auto repair shop, so it's easier to get delivery or pick up. If you're picking up, just make sure to put your hazard lights on if you need to double park. The food is excellent, just like Sadaf in Encino. I always get the chicken, salad, cherry rice, grilled jalapeño and tomato. My friend always orders the Lord Kabob plate. The name Noho Café gives no clue as to the kind of food served at this Armenian Persian eatery next to a Jetson's space age looking early 1960's carwash under a huge aging car wash sign. Why Armenian-Persian? Possibly from the Armenian diaspora that spread to such places as Lebanon, Syria in the area of the Mediterranean called the Levant; Iraq, Iran in the Middle East. So there are Armenian influenced variants of all the above cultural areas. That also seems to be the case at Noho. A little bit of this & that. I was taking photos of Noho when the lady within came out to welcome me in with the wave of her hand. As soon as we finished ordering, she showed us her hospitality w/ small cups of lentil soup that had thick, dark, broth & herb rich meaty, garlicky, earthy flavours. Best lentil soup ever if possibly a bit salty. Ordered the Lamb which was brined chunks of dense, lightly pleasantly gamey, moist, meaty, cooked to medium well. Mildly seasoned w/ garlic. The Albalu Polo is light, airy, dry, brittle, nutty, al dente Basmati rice cooked w/ dried sweetened sour cherries. It seems to be seasoned w/ pan drippings from the grilled meats to add an agreeable meat, herb, fat fragrance. I chopped up the flamed, surface blackened whole tomato & rather piquant Jalapeño, sprinkled the supplied packet of ground Somagh, dried Sumac fruit which is sour, tart, lemony to create a "salsa" for the lamb. There is also a small container of what may be puréed lemon, vinegar, Somagh inflected sauce to enliven lamb. Greens from a salad mix, puréed chickpea Hummus, Pita bread rounded out the meal. When Yelper Rob B., who introduced me to Noho, asked for lemon, the lady handed him a whole lemon so it could be cut up at home since it was a take out. When I mentioned Somagh, she threw in resealable packets of this very Persian seasoning. Such is the familial generosity witnessed at Noho. The Lamb and the lentil soup were excellent in terms of flavours, textures, aromas. The meals are huge. You will never go hungry here. The prices are most reasonable. Food here tastes better than what you can find in most of Tehrangeles in W. LA along Westwood Blvd. Even Jonathan Gold recommended Attari fails in comparison. Adana in Glendale may be more refined, but there is no bang for the bucks. The food at Noho is a labour of love using excellent ingredients & techniques that seem to reflect age old traditions perhaps dating back to Darius & Xerxes if not even further back. Just like Kim Thai of old also in North Hollywood, Noho has food, that is so compelling, on top of the home style generosity that 5- Yelp stars is not unreasonable. Noho is a hidden gem. read more

I was caught off guard by the building and signage at this Persian restaurant. It is a total hole-in-the-wall unlike any cafe I imagined. The name is a bit misleading I guess. You'll notice the small, dingy building sharing corner space with a car wash. The signage on the windows look "unprofessional" or not polished. You will walk in and will be surprised that this is no coffee shop or cafe, but more of a place you pick up your food and run. It's unbearably hot inside that the thought of sitting in the heat inside would be punishment. You will see a long list of kebab options that will probably confuse the indecisive. And when you ask for a recommendation, they will reply that they have everything. Normally broiled tomato is included with kebab at Persian restaurants, but here it is an upsell. The hummus is a bit lighter and thinned out here instead of thick and creamy versions I've tried elsewhere. As you wait, you will be offered a small sample cup of their lentil soup or maybe a can a soda, which probably contributes to the high rating on Yelp. These "extras" and extra friendly service usually is the reason for 5-star Yelp establishments from my experience. If you're looking for flavorful kebab, this would be great place for takeout as it seems they equally take pride in all their kebabs and cannot recommend a specialty. I find that that every restaurant has one dish they specialize in, but this place does not so pick a meat and wish for the best. As for ambience or atmosphere to dine inside in a post Covid world, this probably is not a place you would like to go dine in if you missed dining inside restaurants. read more

Sad to post this review. After years of trying to support this local business, I just can't anymore. I went a few days ago, parked in my usual spot, and attempted to go inside. The door was locked which was weird cause I always went 10:30-11am. I went back into my car and it was 10:50 and read that they now open at 11 so I decided to wait 10 mins ( I really loved supporting this local business in the past). At 10:55 the male owner comes over to my car and starts yelling at me, saying I need to move because I'm taking up parking. I told him I'm simply waiting for the business to open. He said he was inside and I never came in and I told him I had attempted to but the door was locked, and the hours online now say 11. He got even angrier. I didn't think anything of it as I drove by it regularly, but when I checked the reviews, I was surprised that it had excellent reviews! They close pretty early so come early. 1) Chicken Shawarma Plate - the chicken shawarma here is definitely different from your typical shawarma because it's wet vs. dry shawarma you typically see at other places. It's served with the juices along with the stir-fried onions. That alone was delicious, but when I added the garlic paste that was included, it made my meal that much more incredible. 2) Beef Kabob Plate - served with fire grilled pepper & tomato, rice, salad, hummus, and pita. The beef was incredibly juicy and flavorful. I came here for a quick lunch and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. It felt like I was a guest in Middle-Eastern family's home. Found this spot close to my work and ordered takeout ! First off, it's a family owned business. From the second I walked in the lady and man who greeted me were so kind and welcoming. I could tell they really took pleasure in running this restaurant. While waiting, the gentleman gave me a small cup of lentil soup to try. SO. GOOD. I didn't get to try it until I was driving away from the restaurant but I'm going back for that, for sure. But that's not even the bad part. It's because when I questioned it, the woman rudely said "You didn't say shawarma, you said you want a number 12." I corrected her calmly and told her I wanted the shawarma. I don't even know what a number 12 is. She then said it was too late to change it because they had already started the order. This was literally 20 seconds after placing the order!!! So basically she forced me to pay extra for her mistake, and then refused to give me what I actually ordered. And to top it off, she had the nerve to be rude about it!!!So I left with the number 12 (double chicken lula kabob) But even in some alternate universe where I wanted a number 12, I would still only give the food a 2.5.
