No sense of atmosphere to welcome you. The ladies restroom desperate need some REPAIRS, the doors don't lock, the paper towel dispenser is non-operative & there's no cleanliness in sight! The paper towel is thrown on more piled up chairs that is so unsanitary! Please clean-up your restrooms & get rid of all your old tables in the entrance & water your succulents that are in need of some trimming. The food is the real deal. The menu contains authentic Chinese dishes preferred by the immigrant Chinese community and those of us who have learned to develop a taste for that version of Chi raw food. The menu also features dishes for locals accustomed to American Chinese food. Either way, the food is delicious, fresh and served hot. There is ample reason why this place is usually full during the height of the lunch and dinner hours. The owner and chefs are Chinese who practice the Islamic religion, with ancestry along the original northern silk route. Therefore there are no pork dishes but lots of lamb choices as substitution, along with beef, chicken, assorted seafood and vegetables. A word of caution: when the menu states "spicy", believe it! You can ask for less spicy or minimal spice and will be accommodated. Service is top notch for any restaurant, let alone a genuine Chinese restaurant. I ordered takeout and honestly wish I hadn't. The orange chicken reeked like rotten fish -- absolutely disgusting and completely inedible. The fried rice had the same weird fishy smell, like it had been cooked in dirty, reused oil. It tasted off, like something that had been sitting out too long. Even the soup tasted old, like it had been reheated from days ago. Nothing was fresh, nothing was right, and I couldn't eat any of it. Total waste of money. I ordered the handmade noodles and the orange chicken due to the reviews. The noodles were nice. The orange chicken was a major disappointment. The portion was decent for close to $20 at a restaurant but the meat was clearly old. Very tough and barely edible so I was really disappointed because the flavor was decent. I had a very pathetic experience. I ordered a lot of things, including soup. When the soup arrived, it had too much black pepper; it was full of black pepper. I told the waitress about it. There is a waitress there, a Filipina with very sharp eyebrows. She made a face and said, "I cannot talk to the chef about it. Either drink it or cancel the order." She was so rude. This restaurant is a wonderful elevated Chinese food option especially for special occasions and celebrations. We were greeted in a welcoming and friendly manner and we were treated kindly throughout our whole experience. I felt the prices were fair for the quality and ambience offered. The lunch option which is available daily between 11am-4pm is a great deal. There is a long list of main entree choices and it comes with a small bowl of soup and rice which can be upgraded to a fried rice for a small fee. They give you substantial portions which are also shareable. I highly recommend the egg drop soup. It was flavorful and I dare say, one of the best soups I ever tasted. It just hit my flavor palate in the best way, simple as it was filled with flowy egg whites and mushrooms. The Nomad Short ribs are tender and just the right amount of spice. It's a popular dish & deservedly so. The Mongolian beef has tender beef pieces surrounded by spices and greens. All very delicious. The orange chicken is soft and delicious as well. The Handmade Noodle Soup was filling and delicious, but to be honest, I thought the egg drop soup was more flavorful, so I would just skip that & stick with the egg drop soup. For an appetizer I highly recommend the scallion pancake. It comes with 4 large pieces and is slightly oily (which is expected) and tasty. Also, if you're so inclined, upgrade to the fried rice because it's so good! It made me realize not all fried rice are made equal--this one is a high standard. Nomad specializes in wok-fired Hui and Northern Chinese cuisine and is run by mother and chef, Jamilla and daughter, Linda. Jamilla has been doing her thing since she was 9, working in a noodle shop in Taiwan and has garnered so much experience and recipes along the way. One can recognize that once trying the dishes here. Their menu includes common Chinese dishes like Orange Chicken, Kung Pao, and Mongolian Beef as well as Middle Eastern influenced Hui dishes such as Cumin Lamb, Yellow Curry and Beef Rolls. MUST GET: Honey Walnut Shrimp: lightly crisped shrimp tossed in a creamy, savory sauce with toasted honey glazed walnuts - always a crowd pleaser!! Black Bean Sole Filet: lightly fried sole filets sautéed with bell pepper, onion, garlic and snow peas - so fresh! Stewed Oxtail: slowly simmered in a hearty five spice red sauce - melts in your mouth! My husband and I ordered delivery from Nomad bistro as it was recommend to us from a friend. Unfortunately we cannot recommend this to anyone else. We ordered their wonton soup, orange chicken, and chili wontons. Their wonton soup was tasteless - especially the wontons! I cannot recognize the filling inside the dumpling, it tastes starchy and the texture was chewy (maybe it was old?). I also found carrots with brown spots which tells me these are not fresh ingredients. the spicy wontons has a decent flavor, but they used the same wonton as their wonton soup and it was also filled with an unknown and strange filling with the same chewy texture. This time we tried: Beef Roll - we were really excited to try this especially after reading the reviews on Yelp. It was just okay unfortunately. It could have been great, but over 60% of the beef was fatty & inedible. All of the other flavors were great, but when it's a beef roll...the beef should shine...not need to be removed entirely. Orange tofu - revisited this dish & it's still great. Full of flavor. Mixed seasonal vegetables - got this to compliment the tofu as the tofu is just that...Orange tofu and nothing else. The vegetables were fresh but would have liked more variety. Handmade chow mein three ways - this is the more premium of their chow mein dishes featuring handmade noodles. The noodles themselves were great, and we opted for three ways meaning with chicken, beef and shrimp. The dish was good overall but lacked a flavor punch. Chili chicken - the one we couldn't wait to order again! This was our overall favorite dish last time...and again did not disappoint! Tender chicken. veggies & flavorful sauce! We did not ask for any adjustment on spice level, and found it to be on the very low end of spicy. You know what, I will say that this place is a little overpriced. However, I came here on Lunar New Year because I wanted some quality Chinese food and that is what you get here. Everything is made tasting super fresh and not too oily. I got the lunch special to go for their honey walnut shrimp which is delicious and the portion is huge. I had to split it up into 3 meals. I got the fried rice upgrade and their fried rice is really really good. Their soup of the day for me is hot and sour soup and they make it exactly how I wanted it. I also ordered 2 egg rolls for wealth on CNY and it tasted super good. Super super happy with the quality of food here. Staff is also super friendly and my food was ready when I came to pick it up. This review is specifically regarding catering. We ordered beef Chow mein, fried rice, and chicken corn soup for 100 people. I spoke with the manager Carey and asked him to have the food ready by 1 pm. When the food was served to our guests no one could tell it was the same Nomads food that is served at the restaurant. We were late to our pick up and apologized for this. Despite this, there were no vegetables in either of the dishes, barely any meat. The worst part was we acknowledged our shortcomings but Carey was extremely rude over the phone. Did not explain why our catering order lacked vegetables and meats. I understand not being able to give the customer money back but some form of compensation or at least apology for lack of service would have been appreciated. Overall, will not be catering with them in the future after this experience and will not be recommending them to family or friends. read more

I got the following and here's what I think: - chicken egg rolls - not bad, but Jack in the Box's egg rolls are better - orange chicken - pretty good! - garlic jalapeno chicken - OK, not bad - bok choy w/ shitake mushrooms - good flavor, a tad salty - chicken fried rice - good! - shrimp chow fun (flat noodle) - good! I liked this the most. I will say that the portion sizes are fabulous! They give you the same amount of chicken dishes as the rice and noodles. Many places will give a lot of the rice/noodles, but give small portions for meat dishes. The bok choy with shitake mushrooms was the only dish in a smaller container. The chicken isn't the nice, white meat only chunks. It's dark meat and the cuts are pretty big ad jagged. I'm far from this location, but I might return if I'm in the area. read more

Today we spent over $130 on a to-go order, and they sent us home with burned parathas. When I called the restaurant to tell them they did refund our parathas but they also said don't come back. This is one of the VERY few halal places that provides us an opportunity to have gluten free Chinese. The reason I bring it up is that my wife has gluten allergy and whenever we go out as a family, we make sure we call ahead of time to the restaurant and discuss about cross contamination etc. With Nomad, they do offer quite a few dishes that are gluten free. The ones that we get on a regular basis are Garlic jalapeño chicken (non crispy but I personally like the crispy one better if didn't have gluten). To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I've been dinning at Nomad Asian Bistro for at least 5 years. Loved this place so much that we hosted several dinners here with friends and family alike. Since Covid we had not been back. Today we ventured out and as we approached the restaurant there were strong indicators that it wasn't the Nomad Asian Bistro I knew and loved. In general, the exterior looked worn, unkept, and just plain dirty. We sat in the patio and I could see the door to the restaurant propped open... there was a thick paste of dirt around and on the brass push plate on the door. I showed my husband and I told him that door could be cleaned with 4-paper towels and some simple green in 10 minutes. Begs the question... why hasn't someone cleaned that door? Why haven't the windows been cleaned??? Why hasn't someone pulled the trash out of the planters? Why hasn't someone scrubbed the chairs and tables???? We ordered our food and shortly thereafter our waiter brought out 2 plates. 1 of the plates was dirty. We ordered hot tea and with our pot we were presented 2 tea cups... again, 1 was dirty. I continued to be concerned. Our hot and sour soup, scallion cakes, kung pao trio and brown rice all arrived at once. The scallion cakes were VERY greasy and when the waiter carried out kung pao to our table there was a fly sitting on the edge of the plate! Super sad. The meal was not to the standard that were used to enjoying here. Very very sad. The more we looked around the more we realized the poor condition of the tables, chairs, and plastic table coverings that were very dusty. We barely touched our food. We paid our bill and left. Both my husband and I wonder if perhaps the restaurant is under new ownership? The prior owners were attentive and always had everything looking spotless. Yay read more

Ordered delivery from here for a quick dinner, and I gotta say it was a great decision. We ordered the spring roll, orange chicken, beef fried rice, and the handmade chow mein. I can say for a certainty they do not skimp on the dishes. Every single plate was packed full, and even the spring roll was nearly overflowing with stuffing. The chicken spring rolls were great, fresh made and they paired well with the sweet and sour sauce, although the hot mustard was a bit strong for me, almost like accidentally getting a mouthful of wasabi during sushi time. The orange chicken was nice and tangy, I'd say it was a little bit softer than I like my orange chicken but it was still very delicious. The description says it's slightly spicy but I'd say even with the chili peppers it was very mild if not spicy at all. The handmade chow mein was great, amazing texture of the noodles. Mix some of the hot sauce in there, grab a big chunk of noodles with some beef and enjoy! Not much to say about the fried rice, by the time we got to that plate we were already nearly full, it's just decent fried rice, I personally can't see fried rice ever being terrible so I'll let someone else judge this. It is Halal/Kosher rated. Services was quick and brought out in rapid order. Ambiance is non-descript as it could have been any type of sit-down restaurant with different cuisine. Easily the best Chinese food in Socal. Dined out tonight with my family as we were celebrating a birthday and they were so accommodating and friendly. The staff is always so quick and attentive everyone who works here is super sweet. Haven't tried anything here that I did not like. Their noodles are delicious and of course their hot and sour soup is the best I've ever had.
