Second time coming here and I enjoy the food and the lunch portions. Today was super busy as it was the holiday times and so people had lots of office lunches here. So our table took a moment to get served. Once we were helped, everything came out fast and super hot. I had the honey walnut shrimp with fried rice and it was delicious. The walnut was crispy and flavorful. Their ginger ale is a must!! my friend said they make it fresh and she was right. The beef roll was also amazing and definitely getting that again. Nomads Restaurant used to be our go-to place, but it has completely gone downhill. The food quality has severely declined, and it's clear they're no longer putting in the effort they once did. Our food came out way too fast to be fresh, and the cashew chicken tasted expired. When we politely asked for a refund, they refused, claiming we ate half of it--when in reality, the food was untouched and still sitting on the plates! They only gave us 50% off, which was insulting given how overpriced everything is now. It's heartbreaking to see how far this place has fallen. I strongly warn anyone to avoid it and instead check out better halal spots like Super Dumpling. Save your money and go somewhere else! read more

OMG!!! What a fantastic place. I love good Asian cuisine, but usually can't have it, since I can't eat gluten, but Nomad makes almost everything on their menu gluten-free... And it was AMAZING!!! So I went in for their lunch specials, which are Monday through Friday, before 4:00 p.m. They are an incredible value. They come with soup, and an entree, and the portions are definitely not skimpy. It was enough for me to make two meals out of. I ordered the Kung Pao Three Taste, with eggdrop soup. The soup was incredibly flavorful, and filled with yummy goodness. And the Kung Pao... Let's just say, it's not just my mouth on fire but my heart is on fire as well. It was so incredibly good. I can't wait to go back and try more items. There's so much to choose from for me though, it's going to be hard to figure out what I'm going to do next. If you want to throw down money, it's a safe bet that I will be going back to Nomad again, and again, and again. I think I may have just found my favorite Asian restaurant. read more

My coworker and I came here after some business. It was my first time checking it out after my coworker recommended it. The portions are big here and service was great. Other Yelpers are spot on on the weird decoration of this place, not sure if their decor is intentional or not.. We ordered some sweet and sour chicken, which was more hot and spicy chicken than sweet and sour. We also got spicy wontons (which usually is wontons in chili oil), this came in hot spicy soup. It was good but a bit too spicy and too oily for me.. Think a hot bowl of chili oil instead of drizzled chili oil on your wontons. We also got the ribs, which was good. We also got the hot and sour soup, which again, was mostly hot and spicy soup instead. And, I think maybe that day the chef put too much black pepper because all I tasted was the hot black pepper.. might as well call it hot black pepper soup... I think my intestine was already on fire after my small bowl of soup that everything after was just hot and spicy as well.... I also got a stomach ache after my meal so I think they definitely used MSG..which is usually okay but I think they used a lot, I think some other Yelpers mentioned the same thing... I think this place is okay if your stomach is not sensitive to spicy and hot and MSG.... It is also good for big groups... but probably not for me.. I don't think my stomach can handle it.. Nomad is fantastic I don't know why we didn't start coming here sooner. The Mongolian beef is my favorite. Those red peppers are chopped up so some bites can be very spicy if you're not careful. The chicken fried rice is delicious, minimal chicken but the rice portion is great. Could feed 3 very hungry people or 4 people. I'm a big fan of crispy orange chicken and I will say theirs is definitely not crispy unfortunately, but I feel like the chicken itself is good quality. Love the potstickers too. Came with a group of fiends and making reservations through phone was super simple. Food Quality - Pretty good food and seriously, no complaints on the dishes we ordered. Orange chicken was good and surprisingly, the honey walnut TOFU was amazing as well. Service - Really sweet service. Our waitress was great and always noticed when our water mug was running low. Price - Decent, average price when compared to other family-style restaurants that are similar. Each dish was averaged at about $13. Their great steal for me is $4 for 4 huge scallion pancakes! And I love me some scallion pancakes. Misc - Parking was plentiful. Do not worry about parking. Outside patio is really nice and open. Inside does look a little worn-down and could use some repainting, but that didn't bother me. What did kind of get me that knocked a star is their air conditioning. Very appreciative that it's working, but the vent was pointed straight at our food, so our food got cold pretty quickly mid-meal. This place is in a good location with plenty of shops and things to do near the beach. It also had a lot of seating and nice ambience if you choose to sit outside on an evening. The service was good as well. Our server was very nice and attentive. He seated us even though our third person hadn't arrived yet. The thing I'm most excited to write about is the food though! It was so good and all food consistencies were pleasing to the mouth. The ingredients are halal so I am assuming they must have used them fresh because this is nothing compared to any chinese food place I have had. Or maybe I'm just so used to China Bowl on the corner of Don't get Mugged and Lock Your Car Door st that I must be easily impressed. I recommend. Food is very tasty and freshly made. I rounded this review up from where it should be (3.5) just because of the flavor and quality of the ingredients. Be aware, this place can get crazy busy. But they do everything that they can to get you seated quickly. Was brought here as a guest, I had not heard of or been to Nomad before. It was busy, but not too loud inside. They make their own in-house version of a Ginger-Ale that is crazy good. Real snap and bite of ginger to it, highly recommend. Service overall was good but had a couple of mishaps due to how busy it was. The people who work there are so very nice and accommodating. They were working hard with a full place and a 40-minute wait outside. Had several dishes, some vegetarian, some tofu and a couple of meat items were ordered as well. Scallion pancakes rocked. Everything is served family style, each plate good for about 3 good sized eaters. They completely missed an ordered item but did not charge us. Plates were brought to our table that did not belong to us, again, it was a busy hectic night. Hand pulled chow-mien was awesome as was the Chinese broccoli. Highly recommend both. Since I had not been here before, I did not know that it was halal until arriving. I really try to stay away from kosher and halal due to the amount of animal cruelty in the butchering of the animals. True halal and kosher meats are processed by slitting the animals throat and letting them bleed out, while completely alive, bleating, screaming, so that the other animals hear them and see them, struggling and conscious through the whole procedure as they bleed to death being butchered. I find this to be extreme animal cruelty. Say what you will about standard meat processing in the USA, but at least the animals are killed quickly (shot in the head) and humanely, kept separated from the other animals as they are being killed, prior to any butchering or processing of the animals. Religion and politics are no excuse for animal cruelty in any way, shape or form. I would probably come again but only if I was eating tofu or vegetarian. But if I am in that mindset-great place to go. read more

This was my 2nd time ordering from Nomad, the food was pretty good overall. Prices were on the higher end per dish but so were the portions, so it evened out. I tried the Filet Mignon with Black Pepper Sauce $21.00 1 × 陳皮雞 Orange Chicken $17.00 1 × Fried Rice (House) $14.50 1 × 炒手擀麵 Handmade Chow Mein with Three flavor $15.90 I went with the filet mignon based off the other reviews here on yelp, although I thought it would would look different when I opened the container. I was probably looking at a different beef dish in the pictures. But I digress. As described in other reviews, the beef is high quality it's quite tender, as filet mignon should be. However it was a bit dry; it lacked any "black pepper sauce" at all, to my taste. I also think the dish would have benefited from cooked onions; instead they give you raw onions, which didn't help with the dryness. Oh, and none of the main dishes included white rice, which I thought was odd. Orange chicken was ok. The flavor was spot on, as was the crispiness. However the chicken itself was dry, perhaps a bit overcooked. Also it seems like a 50% breading to chicken ratio, if not more heavily weighted on the breading side. You'll find better orange chicken variants at your typical fast food chinese restaurants. The fried rice was the highlight of the meal. It's hard to mess up friend rice and Nomad did not disappoint. The rice was flavorful, the perfect consistency, and for a combination fried rice there was a decent amount of shrimp. The noodles were a dish I was looking forward to. You do not often see restaurants advertising handmade noodles so I wanted to see what all the hype was about. The noodles were well cooked but, perhaps due to the fact they were handmade, tasted a bit doughy in texture. It wasn't bad at all, just not what you may be used too. However the flavor on the noodles themselves just middle of the road. Again, not bad, average, which I would expect from a typical asian fast food restaurant, but not from this supposedly "premium" option. Overall I'd come back for the fried rice and I would perhaps try one of their other beef dishes like the mongolian beef. read more

This was the best Chinese food I have had in years. The ambiance isn't great but the service and food were. We wanted something quick close to our hotel and this was it. We ordered the hand made chow mein noodles three way, orange chicken, cashew chicken, Mongolian beef, fried rice and white rice. The noodles, cashew chicken and orange chicken were excellent! Upon arrival for 2 hour drive we were told that the entire restaurant was booked and we were seated outside in patio. We ordered the food which took longer than expected the food was cold and nasty. The employees were taken breaks outside near where we were serving. Every employee was smoking and the smell of smoke was nasty which force us to leave. The food is outstanding. BUT If you care about your health, and don't want to get Covid, don't eat there. My family and I stopped for dinner last Thursday night. I asked them for an outdoor table, they said the outside was "closed". I couldn't see why, the weather was fantastic. They said something about mosquitos, but had I known that we were all about to get covid I'd have insisted on taking my chances with the skeeters. All the staff wore masks, but none of the customers, nor were they asked to. There doesn't seem to be any health safety protocols taken for their customers' well-being. So, like I said, the food is great, but if you care for your health, either you need to insist they seat you outside or find another place to chow. read more

I believe this place has maintained a 4 star rating and has survived through the years for two reasons. The first being, it is halal. Second of all, it's large style family sized portions. If neither of those two things particularly appeal to you, then I won't recommend coming. The interior of the restaurant is disgusting. It's unkempt and dirty. They really need to shut down this restaurant for a week and do some deep cleaning. It is really unappetizing while you are waiting for your food you glance to the window beside you and see all types of dust, dead insects, and an accumulation of particulates that have been caked on for years. The walls also have random stains and markings. If this is how they maintain the inside which guests can visibly see, I wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen. The food is just okay, not anything special. Either a hit or miss. I've ordered several dishes that I would not recommend, such as the orange chicken. It's dry, hard, & more batter than chicken. The sticky ribs; they are tough. Honey walnut shrimp, too sweet. Only dishes I really like and feel is unique to the place is perhaps the salt & pepper seafood. Huntington Beach is a little lacking when it comes to Chinese food, so I'm ecstatic to have found this gem in the Seal Beach area. Nomad is the definition of a hidden gem, considering you can't see it from any major street or parking lot. Once you finally turn the corner you'll notice their large signage and open-space patio. Their menu is filled with fan-favorite Chinese dishes, as well as some fresh fusion items. My go-to has been the sweet and sour chicken, which comes loaded with sweet/tangy sauce, chicken, carrots and bell peppers. Unfortunately they don't serve their meals with any rice, but you won't be jipped on the meat. I chose to dock a star because it's a little bit pricey for Chinese takeout. More than likely you're not going to solely eat an entree of straight meat as your meal, so expect to pay for additional add-ons. read more
