Good home cooked food. If you are watching your figure, this is not the place for you. The proportions are large & very tasty. Nothing is bland and is seasoned to perfection. I've had breakfast and dinner and was impressed with both. The rolls and cornbread are very filling so be careful on loading up on those before your entree or you'll be stuffed. My last visit I had French toast and turkey & nibbled off of my friends hashbrowns. We decided to get pies and I unfortunately was a bit disappointed. Me and my daughter stopped here for dinner on an early Saturday evening. The hostess and server were both very friendly. The food is very average.The pie case at the front entrance is very tempting and the next time we go back I will be there for the pie. We both ordered from the Blue Plate Specials section of the menu. These entrees all get 3 sides for $9.99. Drinks are not included in the special. My daughter ordered the chicken fried steak which is a generous portion. She enjoyed it. I ordered the chicken and dressing. It comes with a little cup of cranberry sauce. For my sides I ordered the side salad (no tomatoes, ton of croutons), black eyed peas(just okay, missing the smoky pork flavor I craved) and turnip greens ( zero seasoning, tasted like they were poured out of a can and heated up). Like all good diners they have sweet tea on the menu. I would dine here again. It's okay, not spectacular. read more

I attempted to call this establishment to leave my concerns, but since I was left on hold for over three minutes, I felt I needed to relay my concerns in writing. One may say waiting for three minutes is not bad, but I just left the restaurant and there were only three tables seated and no one waiting to be served. So why the long wait? Today's service complaints begin with the smoked chicken which has the entire skin chard as if I ordered blackened chicken. Secondly, I phoned in my order requesting greens. Instead, I received a double order of green beans and and a double order of cornbread dressing. Although I did order dressing, I would much rather have topped it with gravy instead of the honey mustard dressing I received. Lastly, my server went to prepare the iced tea for my To Go order. I had to wait for the tea for five minutes, allowing the wait person to stop and hold a causal conversation with a seated customer who was already enjoying her meal. The last time my husband ate there, he became sick, and we hadn't had the pleasure of dining at Norma's for a long period of time. Well, today I am sickened by the poor customer service I received. Again, I shared this because I was still on hold for over three minutes when I called. Mind you the person answering the phone didn't know if I was placing an order, needing to speak with a possible relative who was an employee or, in this case, needing to speak with the manager. BTW, the chicken is dry and the dressing is cold. COVID 19 is making wait staff in some places too lax. Food for thought before you make your selection for dinner/breakfast today. read more

This was my first time to visit this particular Norma's location, which has actually moved. To access, one would drive West from the Tollway on Trinity Mills less than a block. I ordered two servings of meat loaf with veggies, rolls and a little cornbread as well as one burger. While the veggies were fine, I have to say the meat loaves were a serious disappointment. The meat, made from ground beef, was severely over-processed into a big block of solid meat with minimal seasoning, and watery very light tomato-ish sauce. I also ordered one piece of lemon and one of chocolate pie, both ice box, not meringue topped, which is what I had sought originally. No browned meringue pies on the menu at this location. I got home and opened up the packaging to find no pie. After a call confirming the pie was in a separate sack still at the restaurant, they credited the pie cost. I would not go back to this location. Try a different Norma's. read more

My mom grew up in Dallas in the 50s and remembered going to Norma's as a kid (the original in Oak Cliff), but we tried this one on Beltline Road. It was perfect - just like she remembered complete with the jukebox. She had a ball in here walking down memory lane. The food was great - we had breakfast and everything was delicious. Came here for brunch, I was starving and heard it was very casual and felt like a home cooked meal. So I decided to come. I got the Migas(8.99) and a short stack of pancakes(3.99). The migas came with hot flour tortillas and refried beans. The pancakes were a very decent size. Didn't know they were that big and I got my food after like 5 mins of sitting down. It was a lot of food!! If I knew the pancakes were that big I would've skipped that part lol but they were still good. They also bring out complimentary biscuits and cornbread. The biscuit and cornbread could've been more warm but still good! I definitely recommend this place for breakfast and brunch. I will be dragging my friends here with me next time read more

The food is always great!! However, the service at this location suffers. We ate here two days in a row. First day, I ordered chicken fried chicken, but got chicken fried steak. Husband ordered eggs over easy; they came scrambled. Second day we ordered two sweet teas and got two unsweetened teas. I ordered migas with no jalapeños and easy onions. It came loaded with jalapeños and onions. Husband got pancakes but had to ask for syrup. We had to ask for napkins. We understand COVID changes everything, but especially when restaurants are not busy, one would think it'd be easier to pay attention to details and the basics and get those things right. We'll go back because we love the food, but instead of just eating orders that come out wrong without complaint, we'll be sending back anything that comes out wrong. read more

I really love this place. It really is like your mom's home cooking. I literally came in once and ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with fries and even THAT was good. Now caution to you uppity types that fear the checkered table cloth and checkerboard vinyl floor settings, this is not for you. This is a true diner. They do not try to be fancy or any of that nature. They are here to deliver food and each time I am delivveerrt. No, seriously I really do love this place. Norma's is an American diner style restaurant. They of course offer all day breakfast and blue plate specials. This restaurant is your mom's dinner, very much so homestyle. Please don't come here expecting and upscale meal, you will not receive it. Go to items for me is the meatloaf, roast, and chicken fried steak. All are great. They offer a wide variety of sides my favorite are mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and green beans. They also have homemade pies, cobblers and cakes. I will say I'm not a big fan of their breakfast. I have patronized Norma's Cafe for many years,( I was first introduced to Normas at the Oak Cliff location, and moved north), and the food has followed. It's been so long since I've been this disappointed in how I spent my money on food. I was CRAVING chicken fried steak (CFS) for over a month. I finally made the time to stop into Norma's for the first time to try it out. I mean the ratings are pretty good so I thought why not but people - you've got to get out and try other places if you think this place warrants anything higher than a 2 star. I will not belabor my point on how terrible the food is...oh wait, yes I will... CFS: Batter flavorless and a weird texture Mashed Potatoes: They were mashed but I don't think they were potatoes. Seriously, how can you f up mashed potatoes? There wasn't enough salt or pepper to make them palatable Gravy: Ah hell no! This is the south, every place gets the gravy right. No flavor and wouldn't hold a spoon to Whataburger gravy. I should have stopped in to Whataburger to grab gravy, that would have been the only solution to making this meal tasty. Okra: Not sure what they did to that poor okra but they had it out for it - it didn't look or taste like any okra I've ever had Bisquit: Dry and looked fake Cornbread: if you want to call it that Chicken & Rice Soup - It was great! I really liked it. Service: Very friendly and accommodating. All in all, I can't give higher than a 1 star because they failed the primary reason I went there..To eat CFS. Oh yeah, one last word on how terrible it was. I put it on the floor for my chihuahua to get a little snack - she sniffed around it for a minute but walked away. We ordered some food from Norma's Cafe through Uber Eats and literally received a cheeseburger with no cheeseburger. By that I mean there was a bun, mayo, mustard, and pickles. No burger. No cheese. So I call the restaurant and tell them what we received, here is what happened. The manager, Roger, tells me over the phone that they don't send out burgers with no meat unless you order it that way. I told Roger that we did not order a burger with no meat and he INSISTED that he and his cooks in the kitchen "made no mistakes" (his words not mine). He then tell me how's busy they are and keeps me on hold for several minutes while he looks for a solution I assume. At this point he has admitted to nothing and accepted no responsibility. He has so far blamed us and the Uber driver for eating the burger, never once admitted any wrong and taken any responsibility which is TERRIBLE customer service. So Roger tells me that he will redo the order and we can come pick it up (which defeats the purpose of us ordering IN, we wanted to stay IN). We go in to pick up the second burger and again Roger says that he made no mistakes, blamed the UberEATS driver, and basically says they don't send out burgers without meat so there's no way they made a mistake. I would NEVER eat here again with a manager like that. He's terrible. I used to work in a restaurant (a good one). And we would always take full responsibility for mistakes and take care of our customers, Norma's Cafe clearly does NOT do that so we won't be back. I am going to make sure every single person I knows about Norma's and they should never eat there. We were treated like liars. That's ridiculous. I have dined here twice over the last 10 days and each time have kicked myself for not venturing in sooner. This is a true diner- the atmosphere is unassuming and the food has been abundant and delicious. On both visits, I tried the daily special and have gone home with leftovers. The first time was on a Saturday and I had their smoked bbq brisket. It was tender and oh-so-good. You get to choose two sides so I ordered their green beans and turnip greens. Loved the green beans but would not go with the turnip greens again as they were a smidge bland. On my second visit, I went with the beef tips over rice with mac and cheese and vegetable beef soup as my sides. All were excellent. Beyond the food, my two favorite things about Normas thus far has to be the fluffy dinner rolls and cornbread that are served AND the awesome service that was recieved on both occasions. The menu sports a huge variety of options and the kids meal springs are very good. We will definitely be back very soon and very often. read more

The only flaw that gave it four stars was the food presentation, I ordered the Mac and cheese bacon burger with fries but the burger looked sad and when I tried to pick it up the entire burger fell out. Its a remake of an old staple in Dallas area. They made it look old like the other locations. Its in a remodeled strip center, so the outside ambiance doesn't really match. Food is good greasy breakfast food. Served fast with good, never ending coffee. The place is LOUD, like all 50s style diners were. However, we were seated near a two-year-old opera star who continue to auditioning for our entire meal. I asked the waitress to serve him a bowl of peanut butter, but obviously that didn't work. These folks compete with the likes of Cindy's, deli news, mamas daughters diner. For breakfast food, it's a pretty good place to eat. read more
