I love Norm's!! Everything is always perfect EXCEPT for the temperature!! So freakin' cold at every location I've been to.

It has been a while since we've been here We always received good service and food Tonite we sat in maria's station, never met her before. My wife and I were surprised and pleased to meet her and have her as our server She was very pleasant and prompt .we always are no able to finish our meals and take the rest home..Maria was kind enough to give me Syrup for my pancakes, which are very good,and fork and knife packs,so I have everything to eat my pancakes. I've been a customer for years now and I've never had a horrible experience like today. Yes I know, restaurants make mistakes and I know how they get frustrated when they are super busy because my mom works in a busy restaurant and has dealt and seen everything. That is still no reason for the shitty service we encountered today it was just too many mistakes. The funny thing is that we waited like an hour or more for our food, we were starving and the waiter did pass by and said it was taking long but that they were busy and we understood. Although we patiently waited for our food we did not receive what we ordered. My first complaint was my moms order she ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich with onion rings (she has ordered this before) the chicken was just plain grilled chicken no seasons what's so ever no savor of Cajun and with fries instead of onion rings she told the waiter and she changed the fries to onion rings but said that was the way it came. Next, we ordered two Porterhouse steakhouse breakfast plates. They mixed the steaks because one ordered medium and the other well done and the eggs were not how they ordered them. One plate had sunny side well I don't even know if to call them like that because they were raw the egg white was raw it was so disgusting. We felt bad complaining about almost everything but everything was just bad or incorrect. My pancakes were burned. We did not enjoy our food anymore we were dissatisfied annoyed and disappointed. As we were leaving, I took a look at the kitchen and they all looked mad and stressed and had a bunch of food plates just waiting for the waiter to distribute. I didn't have my phone to take pictures but I did tell my brother to take pictures of that nasty raw egg in case he got sick because that was just so unacceptable. I ordered takeout over the weekend because I received an email about a special they had going on. I ordered my steak medium well and it was way over cooked to the point that it was so rubbery I couldn't eat it. I asked for gumbo soup they managed to get that wrong to they gave me albondiga soup I ordered Cesar salad they forgot the dressing croutons and the cheese. Possibly the worst feed on the planet. I waited for 20 minutes for a server and they were not busy. Also, the eggs were Burnt outside runny in the center. I asked for water with lemon. New Norm's Restaurant in Encino - Extremely disappointing! I sent back my 1st entree. The meat was way too salty. The veggies were over cooked & smothered in butter (?). The microwaved "baked" potato was just ok. The salad was iceberg lettuce with a few shreds of carrot & some red cabbage. The two ladies sitting adjacent to my table said their soup was salty too. I ordered an Arnold Palmer, but they don't have unsweetened lemonade so I had plain iced tea. I talked to one of the manager's, told her all of the above & asked her to please tell Corporate Offce. She said there is a manager from Corporate in the restaurant tonight. I asked to speak to him. I suggested they might want to adjust there recipe's to reach their target demographics in our neighborhood. His reply was "well, we're not a five star restaurant". It's doubtful that they're going to change. Maybe breakfast is better. However, I did see empty tables with leftover waffles & pancakes...not a good sign! Customer's enter wearing masks, but take them off immediately when seated. They walk around the restaurant looking for restrooms or whatever, without a mask. Even one starff member wore his mask under his nose the entire time I was there. I mentioned it to the manager. She gave him a new mask, but he still wore it below his nose. Today is only their 2nd day. Maybe when the neighbors don't return, theyll make some adjustments. read more

I come here often. I am addicted to their pancakes. Couldn't sleep so I got up at 4:30 am and ordered 3 breakfast (sirloin steak and eggs) one for me, one for my daughter and one for my bf who was still snoring in bed. Placed my order over the phone and headed that way to pick up. I wish it was that empty all the time. I didnt get the servers name but he was really nice. Needless to say, everything was just served and packed in to go containers which I was impressed on how well their containers are for to go orders. Steak, eggs and hash browns were on the bottom and then on the top compartment there were the pancakes that I am addicted to. I dont remember how much i paid but it wasnt enough. I got in and out in about 5 min. Got home and surprised my daughter with breakfast in bed and my bf as well. My son has raved about Norms for years. It's pretty far away from where we live so the rest of the family had never been there until tonight. It was my son's birthday and he picked Norms for dinner, so we drove across the valley during rush hour! What a fun experience we had, all because of our server Maria! Maria was so personable and attentive. Watching her, we could tell she was busy, but she never let it show and she treated our large party like we were guests in her home, making sure every detail was perfect. The food was great, it arrived quickly and there was so much of it! We will definitely go back and we sure hope Maria is our server again! read more

If you're a fan of architecture, then you will probably appreciate the architecture of any Norms Restaurant. The Googie style seems to really fit your surroundings. "Holy Molly that's some crazy architecture" - "Holy Heck, how is my steak and eggs so cheap?" but in an endearing way of course. Norms is open 24 hours a day, so you will likely find yourself here either late at night, or drunk or a combination of both. The foods your standard american fair- steak and eggs, baby back ribs and of course an assortment of omelets and egg based dishes. Where Norms really excels is their value and selection. It wont be the best food you have ever had, but its going to be filling and tasty. I had the T-Bone steak and Eggs and found it surprisingly delicious. The meat was tender and savory and went well with the steak sauce provided. The serving is plentiful and filling and even comes with your choice of biscuits and gravy. read more

I love norms. I have never been to this location before. I was visiting a friend in the valley and got late night munchies on the way home. I called to place a takeout order and they didn't answer the first call. I called again and they put me on hold. I was already driving so I figured I would just stay on hold and wait to see if I got there before they picked my call back up. It was 10 minutes until I walked in and a lovely lady asked me what I needed. I showed her my phone and that I was the only red light blinking on their phone. I decided to try out Norms spaghetti sandwich with onion rings instead of the fries. The sandwich in general was out of this world amazing!!!. The meatballs were good in seasoning and they're very juicy(: I love how big and crispy the onion rings were and went well with ranch. As a side dish I had some gumbo. Terrible policy they started; Charging customers a surcharge of 25cents each to cover their cost for doing business in California. You don't know about the surcharge until you get the check unless you happen to see the tiniest sign at the cash register when you go to pay the bill. read more

First, let me start with the staff that pretends to be helpful but really aren't. They tell you they're going to get you what you asked for yet they don't, and then they avoid eye contact after that. Now on to my actual waitress, Sheron is her name. She can't remember anything even when she pretends to write it down. We told her we were ready to order she said I'd take your drinks first then come back for your order. We (3 of us) gave her our drink order, and 4 minutes later she comes to take our order and then tells us "you all ordered Pepsi right" we did not. None of us did. Fast forward to the food. It's the reason they got three stars. I wish I could give 2.5 stars. The French toast and the sausage patty is good. The biscuits and gravy are delicious also. Finally found a Norms and I had to try it out. Upon arriving I was surprised at how packed it was at 1 AM. After eating I realized what the hype was about. I got the steak and eggs bigger better breakfast and it was amazing. Hit the stop after a night out. The prices were also very reasonable and our waitress was great. Much better than IHOP, Dennys, and other competitor diners in my opinion. Highly recommended! read more

Friends and I were in the valley late in the evening and knew of this place since it's open 24 hours, first and last time coming here. My friends insisted I write a review of how terrible our experience was. This place was bad from the beginning, when we walk in we are completely ignored by the 3 staff members at the cash register, so we ask if we have to sign-in, they gesture yes and 10-15 seconds later tell us to go to Table 4? The tables aren't numbered so how are we supposed to know where?? A waiter just told us to sit in a booth, which was awkwardly placed as I felt we were in the middle of everything. They also had these really big & bright fluorescent lights directly above that bothered me. Our waitress Amy came out and took our drink orders and was very attentive. Shortly after ordering our food, she comes over and tells us she's clocking out and that Mike will be serving us. Mike was also very attentive and checked up on us often but we just all got weird vibes from him. All my friend's orders come out and not one looked appetizing. They were all disappointed in the quality of the food and one even had to ask his to be recooked since it was still raw (wish I had taken a picture to show how bad it was). They each ordered something different and each one was terrible. Time passes and my food is not out yet? My friends joked that they forgot my order, sad it was actually true. Mike comes to refill our drinks, he notices no plate in front of me and asks what I ordered, he brings out my plate immediately and yup..it was cold from sitting there for who knows how long. The hash browns here are the worst, I'm almost certain they are frozen since they come out in a square shape and taste so bland. While eating this crap food to at least somewhat get our money's worth, the manager (didn't get his name) yells at a busboy directly in front of us "Look how many tables you have left!" Um, why don't you help clear those tables instead of reprimanding your employee in front of customers? I definitely don't want to support any business that treats their employees that way. Finally to make things even worse, when Mike brings over our check, he reminds us to tip and even gives us a suggested amount saying "You'd be surprised how many people don't." like who tf does that?! Oh, and after paying as we were finally leaving this dreadful place a homeless man inside the restaurant lobby asks us for change, do they really allow this inside their restaurant? Norms is exactly what Yelp says about a three star review: A-OK. Let's get the not-so-great stuff out of the way. It isn't particularly clean. The bathroom is a mess, and the tile in the restaurant is dirty and sticky. The booths are dated. You're not going to get Wolfgang Puck or Gordon Ramsay-style food. But Norms has its own charm. The food is affordable, and with so many options, you'll find something for everyone in your group to enjoy. They have lots of specials. Your mileage will vary with service, but if you have a really good server, they'll certainly take care of you. On my most recent visit, the servers always made sure our glasses were full and that we had everything we needed. Our buffalo chicken tenders came out after our entrees and our server was immensely apologetic, which is more than you can expect from a restaurant like this. read more

Last early evening I had an early dinner with my boyfriend at this awesome resturant. We love this place NORM'S has always been a favorite spot of mine and a San Fernando Valley landmark. No matter what you order you will be full and impressed with the quality of food for the price. We both ordered the Steak & Eggs. I was so glad the steak was cooked to perfection and so juicy. I thought it was better than what I do myself at home. Plus it came with bacon, sausage, hash browns and pancakes. I was so satisfied with the entire meal. And I actually had the pancakes at home a few hours later and they still were great. The service was good considering our waitress was covering two areas at the same time. Please tell all of your employees that go out to have a cigarette and fail to visit the bathroom to wash their hands is a completely unsanitary way of presenting your company. Extremely gross and uncalled for! The problem with dining at a restaurant lies in the validity of the help following the strict guidelines of preparing and working with food. Norms Van Nuys I witnessed extreme violations of the health-code which in turn made me not want to order a single item from your menu.
