I wouldn't dub this a diner, mainly because its much pricier than the usual Jersey dive diner, and also because the food quality is higher than a diner as well. Yes, more or less normal diner far, although not an obnoxiously large menu. However, I love to get their crab cakes, something I never thought I would eat at a placed calling themselves a diner. I have tried their omelettes, burgers, fries, roasted red potatoes and green beans. All very yummy, always prepared well. The service is okay, and the seating is that of a normal diner. I would definitely recommend this place if maybe you are taking your parent(s) out to eat and want something decent but not fancy restaurant expensive. Overall great diner. Service has always been good every time I've gone, and takeout is an average of 10-20 minutes depending on time of day. High quality food, and nice new atmosphere compared to many other diners. Definitely an "upscale" diner - I had visitors from Central/South Jersey who were impressed with the fabric napkins as opposed to the paper napkins at most diners. The menu has decent variety - only one large laminated sheet front and back - but pretty much anything you would ask for from a diner on there. Above average/generous portion sizes, prices are average, but food is very tasty. Would recommend to anyone passing through or living in the area to make that your diner of choice. Of the six times I have ordered delivery from the Northvale diner, they have messed it up 3 times. Don't get me wrong, their food is wonderful. Very tasty, and very fresh. Unfortunately, you don't always get what you want, to quote Mick Jagger. The first time, I ordered a turkey loaf dinner, and they sent me a roast turkey dinner. The second time, I watched their driver pass my location four times before he actually found me. All the time I was standing in a 6 foot by 12 foot plate glass window waving at him. That time, I got an extremely cold crab cake burger. Tonight, I ordered a firehouse burger made with a turkey burger. Needless to say I got beef. Perhaps this is a case of a wonderful restaurant who should not be in the delivery business. They should stick to serving their wonderful food at their location. This place is amazing. The staff is polite and most things are very clean. The building on the inside is so modern and I loved the lights that were different colors that were built into the ceiling so it looked super cool. The food was pretty good compared to other restaurants. The staff would always talk to me and my family and try and stir up some jokes to make time fly by and next thing you know your food is ready. I ordered mozzarella sticks, crispy French fries, Oreo mixed chocolate milkshake and pancakes. IT WAS SOOO GOOD. The mozzarella sticks was so cheesy juicy delicious, the French fries could have been crispy without being burnt cause they were a little burnt, the Oreo mixed milk shake made my day so much cause when a milkshake tastes good, and when a restaurant has good milkshakes, the restaurant is my favorite. The Oreo mix is so sweet and honestly, I could get a bunch of cups of it and drink it all without noticing how much I'm actually drinking. The pancakes were pretty good, but the pancakes are pretty easy to get bored of, so don't order them ALL the time. I absolutely love this place and I would love to come again! read more

Great! A smart TV placement and a very diner-y theme, but it was clean and there was very nice service. Although I didn't like my Mac and Cheese, I LOVED my bacon corn chowder. Be sure to not mistake the brown muffins in the front container, they are bran, not chocolate. Plus, I ordered a kids chocolate shake and my brother ordered a kids vanilla shake, and they made an extra shake with a mix of both. I think this is one of the better Diners in North Jersey. They have some great menu options and allow you to create your own salad which is good. The only reason they lose a star is that they are a bit on the high side price wise. read more

Went for breakfast and it was delicious. The coffee is some of the best coffee we have ever had, very good quality. We had the buttermilk blueberry pancakes which were so light and absolutely delicious. The blueberries were fresh, not frozen which is what you should expect. My husband had the egg burritos which came with a side of salsa and guacamole. The burritos were so tasty and the eggs were so light and perfectly done. It is obvious all the ingredients are fresh and homemade. The service was excellent. The waitress was very patient while we took our time deciding what we wanted to order. She was nice enough to bring us a pot of coffee for our table since it was obvious we were totally enjoying the coffee! The diner is updated and very, very clean. This diner went down hill. I had the worst experience here. First I asked for napkins right after we got our drinks and they did not come until after our food when I asked for a second time. We had to wait 40 minutes to get our food, mind you it was three burgers. We also didnt get silverware or water until after our food came out and I had to ask for it. Not only that but we had an issue paying. They charged the wrong thing and realized after I had already paid, so then it was a whole issue. Instead of helping me and solving the issue he decided to take four other people and have them pay. I was standing in the front for roughly thirty minutes before I told them they needed to figure it out. Then they tried to charge me the entire check again after I already paid half of the check. I will never be going here again. If your thinking about going, do not and instead take the ten minutes to go to a different diner. Worst experience ever. read more

I ended up at the Northvale Diner in the middle of a bike ride. I still frankly have no idea where it is to be totally honest. But it is in a cute commercial area with a number of shops and restaurants around. It is a very large space and accommodated our group of 13 quite easily. The staff is a bit brisk at first but then they seem to warm up to you and they are nice. I just had a bagel with cream cheese which was A-OK for sure, although I was charged over $4 for it which made it a very expensive bagel indeed! In general I would say that the prices are higher than I think they should be. Then again maybe it's in a very ritzy area, I honestly don't know! We came here after a very hot day at Citi field and I have to say this diner has great food. The bread served with dinner was an olive loaf that was nice and warm but also a soft white bread was served..also warm. Our server was excellent, patient and very friendly. It was tough because we could not decide what to eat. I went with an angus burger topped with swiss cheese, mushrooms and onions and it was cooked perfect and was not greasy. The fries were cooked perfectly and were not drenched in oil. My husband had a hefty helping of mashed potatoes, sauted veggies and his favorite...meat loaf. They have to have the best slaw too. What is great about this place is you get refills on your drinks so if you had a hot day like we had....cold ice tea just keeps on coming...we were not able to finish our ample dinners so we took them home and enjoyed the leftovers!!! I've probably been to this place 4 or 5 times now. The place is always busy, I mostly gotten an omelet and they have always been good; average to above average diner omelets. But more importantly the pancakes are surprisingly amazing - I don't eat pancakes very often but here they taste exactly how you would hope they would taste - sooo good. That's all I have so far. Food is a five but if I could give service/respect level a -50 I would. We love this diner - the food is great, the kids menu has tons of options, and their patio is wonderful. I came with 4 kids and 2 adults - we were told the patio was wet and wouldn't be open for another 30 minutes. To the naked eye, it didn't look wet, and they were unwilling to serve us at the several tables not in the patio. We decided to wait anyway and sat in the grass by the parking lot. I went in about 30 minutes later and was told we could sit but had to walk through the restaurant. While normally this is not an issue, one child had a large cast and was being carried by the other adult. I asked if those 2 could walk up the patio steps since walking up the ramp and through the restaurant was unnecessarily difficult and I was told no. He said he could be pushed in a stroller or they could "figure something out" - there should be nothing to figure out when there are stairs to the patio and someone carrying a five year old with a full leg cast. At this point we had waited and had 4 hungry kids, but that was just INSANE- it was like he wanted to make it difficult. I'll go back to the other locations before I visit northvale again! read more
