I can't believe i haven't been here until now!! I've lived in the area for over ten years. We went to check out one of the new restaurants by the mall but it was a 90 minute wait, so my (adult) son recommended we come here. Came here, got seated right away even though there was a constant stream of customers. It was right around Christmas, we opted to sit on the enclosed patio and it was so pretty!! They had the most amazing heaters i've ever seen and it was all decorated for Christmas with lights and stuff. It was such a beautiful ambiance! The menu was super-impressive. It's not your standard food. I believe it's considered a gastro-pub if i recall correctly. It was hard to make a choice of what to order! We ordered pretzel with cheese-dip as an appetizer and a month later i am craving it on the DAILY. LOL. For my dinner I ordered a corned beef sandwhich, and the bread was do delicious i swear it had to be homemade. SO good. My two other dining partners really enjoyed their meals as well! My son got a bison burger and said it was better than the one he'd had in Yellowstone! Which is hard to beat. I can't remember what the third person got, but know he enjoyed it. Service was good. Regular waitress was good plus great bus-boys. Sounds like you have an option of where to sit: Bar, indoor restaurant are, and outdoor patio (enclosed in winter). As we were leaving i noticed a stream of people heading towards a staircase with bouncer at bottom. Looks like they have a semi-dance-club upstairs too!! Seemed quite busy/popular. Parking in rear. We visited O'Toole's of Libertyville to celebrate a birthday. It was our first time there, and we were pleasantly surprised. They have a beautiful patio area and we enjoyed the evening on it. We were impressed by how seriously they took everyone's health, employees and guests. Masks were worn and not "under the chin or nose" by everyone we saw. Service was great. Tables were spaced for social distancing. It made us very comfortable. We started by sharing their Naan small bites and it was really tasty. not sure it's the traditional Naan bread - it was more puffy/pillowy than flat and airy. But it was very good. For dinner we ordered their burger, one of their salads, their jerk chicken egg rolls, Mexican corn, and a chicken wrap. Everything came out fairly quick and was done perfectly. The burger is on the larger side. We asked for it medium rare and that's how we received it. Nicely done. The jerk chicken egg rolls were a large portion and very flavorful. Not too spicy at all. We didn't care for the dipping sauce - a little on the sweet side. That's more our "preference" than anything wrong with the sauce. The salad and wrap were fresh and filled us up. Happy hour = not happy. This was a genuinely unpleasant experience. Delicious food and drinks, but if you come for happy hour, you must make sure to put in your order well before 5:30p or else they will show you no mercy. We arrived on time, but even after our server took the order late, management did nothing to try to accommodate us (and we'd even ordered a take home meal - so we were already given them lots of business!). Then management punted to the computer for not being able to make changes to our order. We paid full price but this was not clarified upfront. This is a favorite spot of ours for date nights and delicious food. The service is always excellent and O'Tooles tends to always have unique, creative dishes. Their food is made from scratch daily. In general, I've always been really pleased with their dishes. In the past month, we've gone twice and sat on their heated patio. I've tried branching out and trying unusual dishes and feel they can use some work. The Ramen bowl was the same bite over and over, very muted flavor. The noodles were also very chewy. Second time around, I tried the Guinness Beef Stew. The mashed potatoes were hardly mashed - tons of huge chunks of potatoes. Far beyond a "rustic" mash. Additionally, this plate desperately needed to be finished with some acid to provide some relief for how heavy and rich this dish is. I got home and drizzled a tiny bit of red wine vinegar on my leftovers and it was a completely different and improved dish. I can 100% tell that these chefs truly care about food and have an incredible amount of creativity in the dishes they are preparing and serving however, that last finishing touch is sometimes missing that takes a dish from good to memorable and crave worthy. read more

Nice Gastropub type place! We enjoyed the patio seating on a hot, summer day. The menu is surprisingly versatile with fares from US, Asia, and Latin America. We enjoyed the Korean Fried Chicken bowl and the Timmy burger, plus the Reuben egg rolls to start with. All items were flavorful, fresh, and plentiful! The prices are on the higher side for the fare, but not outrageous. This is a surprising little gem hidden in the middle of a homey village downtown nestled among other restaurants and local shops. Can't say anything about the food but the service was horrible, we went there tonight around 7pm and sat for 15-20 minutes and nobody brought us water or came to the table at all. I asked the hostess if she could send a server to us then waited another 5 minutes before leaving. A couple servers came into our section and walked right past us without acknowledging us. Don't know where the manager was but the servers were surprised when we walked out. read more

O'tooles is a great place to visit. We come here often. I would highly recommend them and their fish tacos are great !!! I only have ever had one bad experience here and they were slammed and my food took an hour an a half to come and they gave me the food for free. The other 35 times I have come here t has.been good food and excellent service. Ha. I really do love this place. Plus - we bring our dog and sit on the patio and they are cool with that. This place is a go to location for a weekday after work drink. The old fashions are the best in Libertyville and the staff is always friendly. You can grab a seat at the bar, sit in the bar at a tabletop or sit at a table indoors and outdoors. I've never been a big fan of "Irish bars", but Timothy O'Tool's Pub is just incredible! The atmosphere is amazing, the drinks are great, and the food......On man! Was only there once, but their burgers are amazing! Doesn't matter which one you get, they all will please you quickly! We are long time, regular patrons of the TOTS restaurants. Tonight, the food was (chicken sandwich & bowl) good although the fries were lukewarm at best. The server never checked back nor did we get our water glass refilled. Biggest disappointment was the craft beer menu and lack of pricing/quantity. I ordered an IPA, which to my surprise, was served in a 12 oz. snifter. I was told it was because it was an imperial beer which at 6.5%...it isn't, which the bartender/server acknowledged. Then he said because it came in a smaller barrel, they're serving smaller pours. Seriously?!? For $7.50 + tax/tip, not even close to a fair pour. Do the right thing and ADD Price/Quantity to all free pour drinks. read more

We had a small casual school reunion (20 people) at O'Tooles on a Saturday night and everything was great. The manager Eric was super helpful in making all of the arrangements ahead of time and he provided us with an area in the bar to meet. We had wonderful service the night of the gathering and the food (we ordered several apps to share) and drinks were great. Well after my review of eating with 3 Great Danes that drolled all over and jumping on the tables to eat and the lovely smell. Yes dog friendly, but not for attention seeking where most people may not enjoy a zoo for dinner. Dog friendly fine. Not to show off. I got a response that the owner was on a fb page invading privacy, no one else complained. It was only kids around. Gave this place a second chance my sister got a meatless Reuben and I got a long hair in my food. She sent hers back. Wasn't taken off check. She called several times and he never took care of it. We've been to O'Toole's many times. Food, service and ambiance have always been good, however, our visit on February 2 was disappointing. Toole's, like other merchants, have decided it's alright to add a 3% charge to the bill for credit card usage. I find this practice to be nothing more than a money grab by the establishments that employ it. Credit card companies have always charged merchants a service fee, this is not a new charge. I assume most customers at O'Toole's use credit cards to pay their bills. I also assume that the fact that customers use credit cards has led to the growth of O'Toole's how well would they have done as a cash only business. I could choose not to frequent O'Toole's, which won't affect their business unless a large number of customers do likewise. My only recourse is to reduce the amount I tip the wait staff by 3%. The minimum wage for wait staff in Illinois is now $15.00/hour. read more

I have dined at O'Tooles of Libertyville previously and it was a delightful experience. Sadly, the quality of this popular dining spot seems to have declined recently. It began with the reservation. I made reservations through a well-known restaurant reservation app the day before, but noticed that the reservation wasn't showing up on my phone. I called O'Tooles early in the day and was told "We don't take same day reservations." Fortunately I was able to speak to a manager, who listened to my explanation and confirmed the reservation. Upon arrival at the restaurant it was obvious that they did not have enough wait staff. Our dining companions waited 30 minutes for their cocktail and wine orders to arrive. No soft drinks, coffee or tea were listed on the menu. (You had to ask the wait staff what was available. I wound up ordering water, as no decaffeinated options were available.) Our particular waitress, who was attending to both the reception desk and waiting tables, was a relatively new hire and had no backup that evening (a Saturday). Everyone at our table ordered one of the "bowl" options-- a grain or rice base with vegetables and an optional protein addition. We waited nearly 40 minutes for these to arrive (because the kitchen was "jammed up.") I ordered the "Mushroom Bowl," which appeared from it's description to be a very bland dish. It was actually so spicy that I couldn't eat it. (The restaurant didn't charge me for it.) I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich which arrived 25 minutes later. Our waitress did the best that she could under some trying circumstances, including someone letting their toddler wander up and down one of the main aisles of the restaurant. Wait staff carrying trays of food could have easily bumped into or tripped over the small child. Finally, anyone going to O'Tooles can expect noise, and lots of it. This has always been part of the restaurant's ambiance. This isn't a criticism, it is just what to expect when one goes there. read more

I went here for the first time a few weeks ago to meet up with a friend. We need a place that was between are towns so we didn't need to drive too far. This bar/restaurant was recommended to me. I enjoyed my Cherry Limeade cocktail and had a Cobb salad, which was really good. It's definitely a typically bar-styled place but I would come back here for drinks and or dinner. After talking about going to O'Toole's many times, we finally were able to have dinner there last night. I love what they have done with the dining area- it is certainly a more inviting place to have dinner versus the prior layout. The bar area looked thoughtfully arranged and decorated too. Food was excellent if somewhat pricey. The draft beer list was amazing (who can fault a draft list with 48 choices including "Clown Shoes Flight of the Angry Beast" and "Arrogant Bastard Ale Bourbon Barrel Aged"?) with many local and not so local micro-breweries represented; the bottled beer list is equally robust with nearly everything "worth drinking" for your ordering pleasure. Service was a just right balance of our needs being met when we had them but not being constantly interrupted or hovered over. Overall a very solid place for dinner or just a beverage- it is certainly an asset to the downtown Libertyville "restaurant row". read more

I ordered a salad and the protein choice was - steak so a steak salad- my friend ordered a different salad with steak- so again a steak salad- both arrived - mine was chunks of chewy fat gristle- hers was lovely medium rare steak. Our waiter had asked both of us how we wanted our steak- he was shocked at the difference and got management - she said they are two different salads (same price) and if I wanted better steak I had to have an up charge. Was stuck in Libertyville last night at 9 and nothing was open so found O Tooles because it was the only thing open. I was there with my family, my wife and two girls and we ordered the salad bowls not expecting anything but they were absolutely incredible. They were fresh. They were flavorful and some of the best salads we had ever had. I wish we lived closer. We would come to this place all the time. We also started with the wings which were crispy, hot and delicious. We even pull the manager at the end of the meal just to tell them how surprised an amaze we were at how good the food was. Great job of tools the service was also fantastic. read more

This place is a joke. The service is hit or miss. Food is mediocre. The restaurant setup is dangerous. Be careful if you come in from the back alley entrance, as you could be smacked by a swinging door. This happened last night!! There is NO WAY for someone walking in could see the ridiculous sign on the door when it's closed. Terrible design and completely negligent. The employee who pushed the door open (he was in a hurry) and caused the entanglement apologized but that doesn't avoid this from happening AGAIN! Very disappointing. read more
