My friend ordered a Bloody Mary which tasted like watered down vinegar and vodka. We brought this to our waitress' attention, and she took the drink away and only said "okay". Great new restaurant in Draper. We've been meaning to try Oak since it opened a few weeks ago and last night was the first time we are able to make it. And the margherita pizza was pretty good but not the best I've ever had (that title still belongs to Settebello downtown). Two stars for the food. The interior is nice enough. The staff was friendly and the chairs not overly comfortable chairs. The reason it is getting two stars for food is this: I ordered the Ham and Pineapple pizza. There was too much ham and not enough other toppings on there, throwing the ensemble out of balance. Also the pizza was soggy in the middle so I had to use knife and fork to eat it. But by far worse was the spaghetti and meatballs my son ordered. They were soggy, poorly salted noodles and the sauce was so watery that there was about 1/4 c of just water floating in the plate after he was done. He didn't finish it all, even though he is typically very hungry. One bright spot, even though it took twice as long as our pizza the fries that were ordered were good. read more

First time dining at this restaurant and will be the last. Overall poor experience from the service to the food. After being seated it was only a minute for the server to appear for drinks. Unfortunately it took about 10 minutes to actually get drinks and the server left. About 10-15 minutes later another female server came to take our order, not the same as took our drink orders. After the orders were placed about 10 minutes later the first server came back and asked "did someone take your order yet?" She left again only to reappear several minutes later informing us that the main ingredient to several people's dishes had run out for the evening (at 7pm). They then reordered and their dishes showed up a long bit after everyone else's dishes arrived. Once we got the food it was mediocre quality at best. Nothing terrible but not anything special at all. Their ambiance was uninspiring and feels like every other "hip" new restaurant that tries too hard in creating an industrial themed space with modern touches but feels like they missed the mark. They decided it was a good idea to have live music available for the evening which was excessively loud and we could barely hear each other from across the table. On our search for the best pizza in Salt Lake we found Oak. Found it because of yelp. Exceeded my expectation and would highly recommend to anyone. Great atmosphere, location is a bit hidden and the street to get there is a little tricky at first. Great customer service, kid friendly staff, comfortable setting. We liked the house salad - great dressing. We tried three different pizzas, one #77, Margherita, and the special (steak and chipotle sauce). Also the spaghetti and meatballs. Love the flavor of the crust, and the excellent sauce. My kids and I Loved the meatballs. If you go make sure to try out the cookie and ice cream skillet. Will definitely go back. We used to eat at your restaurant all the time. You have completely ruined the menu. One guest in my party ordered the biscuits and gravy from your very limited brunch menu. The waitress comes out after we have been seated for 45 minutes that the first order of biscuits were "burned and unfortunately no more biscuits left now." Whoever is in charge of this show has absolutely ruined it. Really is too bad. Then to make it better it seems the waitresses were having to play paper rock scissors on who got to serve us. Took 10 minutes just to pay someone after we had the hostess go and find someone in the back that could charge our card. While this was our family's new favorite go-to restaurant, we were incredibly disappointed with our evening service the other week (7/19/2017). We arrived at Oak Wood at 8:30 p.m. after a long day of soccer with kids...hot, hungry & tired. This was our anniversary dinner as my husband was going out of town the very next morning (so special dinner). As we were seated and our waitress was handing out our menu's, we were notified that all of the "grill" items were not available at this time. I was very confused....the restaurant was open for business, yet we could not order hamburgers, salmon, steaks or sandwiches????? Crazy! I questioned our waitress as to why over half their menu was not available to us. My husband and I had our hearts set on their awesome salmon dinner. I even asked her if this was the owner's policy...or something the kitchen decided to do on their own. She hinted that it was the kitchen's policy. We live in Draper and normally frequent Oak Wood at least once a week...until now. I'm hoping the owners/management will respond accordingly and ensure that their customers are taken care of during dining hours. I've never eaten at a restaurant where the full menu was not available because it was 30 minutes prior to closing time. This was our first visit here. Really impressed. I am currently on a fat adapted diet so I stayed away from the pizza and pasta, but did cheat to get their baked goat cheese and bread. No regrets there. The stuff was amazing!! Truly a must have when you visit. Our server was fantastic. She was very helpful in choosing a great meal. My wife really enjoyed he pork sliders. They were tipped well. I ordered the baked salmon. Everything is cooked in their oak fire oven, thus giving it some great flavor. The salmon has a delicious creamy pesto that I could put on everything! I bypassed the potatoes and doubled my veggies. It was one of the best veggie assortments I have ever had at a mid level restaurant. They were a variety of root vegetables with sliced Brussel Sprouts. Yum!! Our server was disappointed with the size of my salmon so she had them do up another one. Lunch for tomorrow! The salmon was cooked just right and had lots of flavor. This place is amazing. The ambiance inside is perfect for the menu and I loved having the TV's to watch games but muted while music played in the background. It was a nice touch. I watched something happen during my visit that brought a big smile to my face and showed me that this place is unique and different. A couple of kids went up to sit at the counter to watch the chef/owner throw pizza dough. As they watched in awe, he took a ball of dough for a crust and broke it into pieces for them to play with and pretend that they were pro's. To me that was a homerun! It was something small but showed me the mindset of the crew running the joint. I could tell that the mindset filtered down. We never asked for a refill, they just showed up and were very attentive to anything that we needed during our stay. We were a group of 2 adults, 2 15 year olds and a 9 year old and everyone at our table was ranting about how good everything was. Kids did pizza's, we started with some calamari and the slightly jazzy tomato sauce its served on was spot on. My lady friend ordered a Caprese Salad and loved every bite. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and my eyes are still rolling up into the back of my head. It was MONEY! Any place that I can take the kids and they love the food as much as I do and I get a strong beer and a whiskey chaser, I'm in! After reading other reviews, I think all too often knuckleheads armed with Yelp think that they are a food critic for the New York Times. Its kind of sad if you ask me. I don't need a nitpick review so I don't give those any attention. People don't need my untrained culinary input about every item on their plate. We love the food, but I don't think we will be back until COVID is over and we can go in person. Their take out system is terrible. We've given them three chances because the food really is good and we want to support local businesses. However, every time we order their system tells us 20 minutes and that has never been the case. Last night it was 45-50 minutes with the hostess telling us they were just waiting on one more item for 20 minutes. By the time we got our food, most of it was cold and/or soggy from sitting in a box on the counter for who knows how long until that "one more item" was ready. read more

One of my favorite new finds. I've been a handful of times and each time I love it. It's on the smaller side so on a busy friday night be ready for a wait. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes myself but I can see how it would fill up fast. The service is a little bit on the iffy side. My first time there was great then next two were just ok - a little slow, a few mess ups, a little neglect. Nothing horrible but it could use improvement. Here's the thing I think their pizza is good. Not outstanding but good. I've had the LeRoy, the Big Chair, and the Duck special and it was all good. Honestly the duck could have used a lot more flavor but it wasn't bad. The crust is decent not my favorite in SLC. If I were basing this review solely on pizza it would be a solid 3.5. It's everything else that makes me do a happy dance. Their baked goat cheese is a thing of dreams. Cheesy, saucey, carby dreams. I've had similar appetizers at other restaurants and there's just something about Oak Wood's that makes it shine. I would go there just for that. Their fries are amazing. Perfectly cooked double fried, just what I want in a french fry. Dip the fries in the baked goat cheese and you're in heaven. The calamari was spot on. The majority of it was not over cooked (and that parts that were were barely overcooked) and a generous portion. I was a little put off because we had asked for the sauce to be put on the side - I was skeptical of the fiesta sauce and vague description that the waitress gave. But oh man was it delicious. I'm really glad the mistake was made. The Salmon cassar salad was delicious (yes that's how they spell it). A generous portion of salmon perfectly - and I mean perfectly - cook. Fresh crisp greens. And a nice creamy tart dressing. There are so many other dishes I really want to try including the incredible looking meatball sliders, sriracha-honey wings, grilled prosciutto sandwich and well everything. Oh and don't forget the dessert. The hot cookie and cream is not to be missed. A perfectly gooey cookie in a skillet topped with cold ice cream. It's a perfect end to any meal or an afternoon snack. My favorite pizza style is Neapolitan thin crust pizza. Any pizza restaurant review should at least start with some statement about what you like, since pizza comes in so many different styles. At my previous house, I built my own backyard wood fired brick pizza oven for cooking my own pizza, and Neapolitan is the style I tried to replicate. So when a local colleague told me about Oak Pizza, I knew a had to check it out. This place is the real deal. I watched them throw pizza dough and it was exactly as I used to do it... Stretch the dough until it was windowpane transparent by tossing and stretching with your knuckles. I almost wanted to jump behind the counter and throw a few pies, myself. We started our dinner with the "junk fries" which were supposedly very popular. Fries with melted blue cheese, bacon, caramelized onion and two dipping sauces. I can see why some people like them. I thought they were just ok, but not really my cup of tea. I did like the dipping sauce. If you like things like chili fries and also blue cheese, you would probably like these. Truth is, you cannot help but get soggy fries when they are smothered with caramelized onions and melted cheese. Not the restaurants fault as they are probably true to form. If I had to order an appetizer again, I would try the wings instead. No problem and no effect on my review since I didn't come here for fries... What we really came for was the pizza. It was exactly as I like it. Crispy slightly blackened bottom and top rim with a chewy bite that I used to strive for when I owned my own home built backyard pizza oven. My kinda pizza, for sure! Topping were good and not overly "loaded" on the two varieties we tried. Some believe that there should never be more than one or two toppings on any pizza. I think most of the choices had about three toppings which is close enough, in my book. Thin crust pizza can't hold up any more than that. The atmosphere in this place had a wonderful local, friendly vibe. A local treasure hidden amongst a plethora of common chain restaurants and average fare. Please do not patronize this establishment so I can continue to eat here in peace, again, and again, and again. The staff was young, attentive, and energetic without trying to "fake it". Friendly, too. My guess is they like working there, and it shows. No "pieces of flair" in this place, if you know what I mean. Kudos, Oak Wood Fired Kitchen. Oak is hands down our favorite restaurant! My wife and I had our first date there. She had a pizza, pepperoni and pineapple, I'm from the camp that believes pineapple doesn't belong on pizza so I had the steak frites. The meal was fantastic steak was cooked perfectly, the fries are out of this world and I even broke down and had some of the pizza which my wife raves about, as with everything else...she was right. Since the first date we have visited many times each time Brandon and Ryan have treated us like family not as customers, for that reason and many others we chose Oak as our venue for our wedding reception last weekend and we are so happy we did! Ryan and Brandon and their amazing staff put together a delicious spread and truly wowed us and our guests. Oak was a good experience overall. The food is fresh and well prepared. We ordered baked goat cheese, steak salad, mushroom pizza, and spaghetti and meatballs for the kids. The goat cheese was delicious. It's served in a cast iron dish surrounded by marinara sauce. It's hard to go wrong with cheese, so the thing that made this dish top notch was the sauce. It tasted like fresh tomatoes--very clean and simple without too much sugar or salt. It was perfect for dipping the accompanying bread (which there wasn't enough of). We ended up dipping our pizza crust in too. The steak salad was pretty good. The meat was cooked perfectly, but under seasoned and not as flavorful as I was hoping. The blue cheese dressing was just right and not too overpowering. The greens and other toppings in the salad were standard issue for a place like this. The only disappointment was the pizza. The potential was there as all the individual ingredients were great, but the problem was (I never thought I would say this) there were too many mushrooms. The moisture from the mushrooms seeped into the crust, making it limp and a little soggy-not what you'd expect from a wood fired pizza. Also, the mushroom flavor overpowered everything else. I was looking forward to the combination of sweet caramelized onions and earthy mushrooms, but all I could taste was mushroom. It may have just been an inexperienced cook, but it was a shame none the less. The spaghetti was standard issue, but the meatballs were very good, though my kids didn't love them because they are used to the bland, bready frozen kind. I had no qualms about helping them clean their plate. We'll definitely come back for a date night without the kids. I wouldn't bring anyone under the age of 6 or 7. We paid $70 with a tip, which was a bit rich for my blood, but the food was good enough I'm willing to try again soon. read more
