We came in for a nightcap and our bartender prepared the best Japanese Highballs pictured. It was a quiet evening, so wanted to sing my favorite Sukiyaki song (In English). But to our surprise they only had it in Japanese! Tooooo bad as we wanted to sing many other songs in English. This is my favorite karaoke place in LA. Its tucked away in the Miyako hotel, and is karaoke in a small open room, which is rare and tons of fun. Saying this is the best karaoke bar in LA might be underselling it. Its one of the best in the world. Kind staff, great community, and a selection of songs in multiple languages to coast the night away. I would've given Ohjah 5-stars after my first few visits. I've been coming nearly every week since 2021. They also hosted the evening's reception of my wedding ceremony day recently. In addition to the unforgettable experiences I've had. I feel really sad about posting this but I just needed to say how I feel. I had come here on a few separate occasions with a friend and always had a good time. We would relax, drink, chat and have a nice time watching people play Karaoke. The bartenders were also really cool and hospitable! In fact, the last time we were there, the bartender gave us free shots. Good, right? I thought they were awesome! We always left this place feeling happy and satisfied. However, the absolute last time my friend and I visited this place, we were not allowed inside upon showing our ID's. They had become very cold to us and told us that we had "misbehaved" the last time we we were there. (We didn't). They told us to leave. I was just extremely taken aback and was deeply saddened to realize we weren't welcome back! It was a bizarre experience and I felt really let down about how all this played out. I have never had this happen to me before. To add, this happened some time last year and I finally mustered up the courage to write this review. I feel awful, but to this day I do not understand what happened. Did they mistake us for other people? Was there some other issue? I will never know. Cute little lounge in Little Tokyo. The staff is very nice. The songs are $3/each which is a bit steep, but I guess that's better than waiting an hour in line to sing one song. Very small and chill, best for those looking to have a nice dinner on the quiet side with some karaoke. Would definitely return. Predatory pricing ($12 cover to sing, $3 per song), rather slow service even though we were the only ones there and sat in silence for about 15 minutes. No music was playing at all until the karaoke DJ and her two friends arrived. Then, some music started but still nobody was singing. We got there just after it opened on a Tuesday. Oh Jah Lounge is on the 2nd floor of the Miyako Hotel in Little Tokyo next to its sister establishment, Tamon, a Sushi restaurant that has great food & service by Chefs Nakai & Wakizo-. In fact, food ordered at Oh Jah is from the kitchen of Tamon so the bar food here is superior to most bars whose kitchen facilities are rather rudimentary at best. Come at 5:30pm for happy hour since the crowds have not come in yet so that it is blessedly quiet & serene. It's so wonderful to order a premium Japanese 'scotch' & contemplate in the quietness. However, starting around 8:30pm, Karaoke (kah rah oh keh) starts to rev up & the serenity is broken in favour of popular songs from Japan or America. Kei (kay), the young Japanese bartender, is personable, attentive, low key. Atmosphere is loungy w/ bar seating & comfortable club chairs, low sofas & tables particularly for group or couple seating and is the primary area for Karaoke performances. Wide range of clientele from Japanese speakers, hipsters from nearby DTLA areas, business men in suits, rainbow of different ethnicities. It's all good. Varied selection of standard liquors found in typical American bars as well as high end Japanese Whiskeys, premium Sake (sah keh), & Sho-chu- (show chew) which is distilled low alcohol Japanese "vodka" made from various grains. We have become regulars here, my sexy Japanese mama Monica is actually our neighbor, she is so good to us every time! Always try to sit with us and chat for a while even there is a lot of customers there, I like the slow nights, we can sing and hang out with her more. She is a bit old school though, doesn't like my tattoo, forbids me to get more, and teaches me to be more romantic and soft to my husband, re gifts her roses to me from her biggest admirers who sends her 50 roses every other week... Ouch... :) she gives us bottle waters to go if we drink too much. We usually come here to drink more and sing after our date day, shopping and dinner in WeHo or downtown LA, I just love this tiny, relaxing, intimate karaoke lounge, we always sit at the table in the corner, romantic and cozy, they can reserve unfinished bottles for us, which I find it is a better deal, $130 for a bottle of Grey Goose, $60 for a bottle of nice sake, pretty decent price though, cheaper than order individual drinks. They charge $6 per person for table seatings, no charge sitting at the bar, the bartender is always fun to talk to, he makes strong tasty drinks too. They have food menu, I think it's from the same japanese restaurant kitchen next door, I liked the food there, I figured it's pretty much the same at this lounge too. I have always liked the crowd there, fun, friendly and easy going. The eye candy waitresses are very nice and attentive, we are always very satisfied with the service and everything. I rarely sing, hubby loves to sing all the time, lots of song choices in English, Japanese and Chinese. If you are into singing, just sing and drink the night away! Ps. My husband and I used to come here at least 2-3 times a month. Last weekend was the last time we will ever step foot here. During the course of the past several months, we got to know Yuka aka Monica, the manager and Kei, the bartender. We got close with them and even exchanged numbers. We've shared many personal stories about our lives with one another and I genuinely felt we had started a friendship with these people. My husband and I are very generous people. We like to share and we like to treat others with drinks just to enjoy the good times together. There wasn't a single night where we didn't share our drinks with Kei. Not one single night. There would always be a shot glass for him right next to ours. We didn't care how much the bill came out to, as long as we had a good time. With that said, there were many occasions where the itemized bill had questionable charges with secret codes and abbreviations. I did ask one time and "T/C" means table charge and that came out to $60 just for us sitting there. That doesn't include drinks or karaoke. JUST TO SIT. My husband's birthday is in January and last weekend Kei offers to buy him a drink. My husband was so grateful. Kei didn't have to offer but he did. To my surprise, he brings out 3 shots of whiskey of his choice- one for my husband, one for himself and one for me. I didn't know I was getting a free shot! Or so I thought. When we got our bill at the end of the night, I noticed a mysterious extra $40 on the bill. I asked Kei what it was and he takes it out of my hand, goes to the register and deducts (not deletes) part of the mysterious extra $40. I ask why there is still a charge and he says that was my husband's birthday shot. Yes, the one that he offered! He then says, and I quote, "Yeah, I took off 2 of the birthday shots but I charged my own. I'm sorry it's a little dirty I know." WHAAAT?? I never even asked for one! Neither did my husband! When someone offers you a birthday shot, you assume they're buying it right??? You don't expect it to be charged on YOUR bill when THEY offered it, RIGHT?? Am I crazy?? I didn't feel like arguing about such a petty amount so I took care of the bill and called an Uber. We've spent thousands of dollars supporting this place of business. Not to mention, thousands of dollars on Uber rides round trip. FYI it's about $200 round trip on Uber A DAY to get to Little Tokyo from SFV. We're responsible people and we never drink and drive. Like I said earlier, it doesn't matter how much we spent as long as the nights were worth it, that's all that matters to us. It's so sad that this place of business would play that "dirty" according to their own words and be that shady to charge an extra $60 here, $40 there PROBABLY ON ALL THE CUSTOMERS THAT WALK IN. Imagine how much that comes out to. Most people who leave a bar are way too intoxicated to pay attention to every item on the bill. They've charged me a "B/D" charge back in September. I just found out last week that "B/D" stood for birthday. We don't even know anyone with a September birthday. Whose birthday drinks did they charge on our bill in September?? I guess it's my fault for not noticing till now. As far as this past weekend bill goes, it wasn't about the amount overcharged. It was the principle. One more thing-- we have a friend who met us there. He's been a loyal regular customer for over 3 years. We all wanted to sit at the bar because apparently they don't charge the $10/person/hour extra charge if you're sitting at the bar. There are 4 barstools. My husband and I occupied 2 so there were 2 left. My friend was about to grab one when Yuka stops him and says it's reserved so he couldn't sit down. She said the other 2 bar stools were reserved when we got there at 8pm, which is when they open. She insisted we all sit at their couches, the ones they charge $10/person/hour. If we sat on their couch, that's an extra $360 for the night JUST TO SIT. Note that this $360 doesn't include drinks or anything else, JUST TO SIT. There were 4 bar seats and we were the only ones there at 8pm, yet she still refused to give him a seat. FYI the 2 extra bar seats were unoccupied till 1am. That's when my friend just grabbed one and sat down after telling Yuka he doesn't think these "reserved" seats will be taken when they're about to close in the next hour. You shouldn't treat your regulars like that. It's just not right. They support you and keep your business running. You should appreciate their business and treat them with respect. I am not only disappointed at how shady this place of business is but I feel very betrayed because I considered these people somewhat my friends. If you decide to pay Ohjah Lounge a visit, make sure to double check your bill and ask questions. If they offer you a shot make sure it's on the house and they're not going to charge it on your bill. My cousin and I came here one night after dinner. This Lounge is location inside a hotel in Tokyo town. Not in the greatest parts of LA but it was fine. Parking at the hotel was $10, if you park further down you can find $6 public parking. Very quiet when we got to the lounge. If you want to sit in the seating area it's $6 per person to sing and minimum of 2 drinks per person and drinks range at minimum of $10+. If you prefer to sit at the bar it's $3 per song per person. Very strange. We tried to sing but chickened out and ended up leaving early. The owner was nice to waive the $6 per person fee for us since we didn't sing. I'm used to private rooms so not sure if I would come back here again. Service was excellent but all the ancillary charges were unnecessary and for that I gave them a 3 star. read more

The service was excellent and pleasant. The bartenders can make some amazing martinis and cocktails. They are your typical bar, checking ID at the door and checking everything is fine. However, they are very kind and modest when they checked my ID. I dont feel discriminated in any way here. Cool little divey karaoke fun hidden up on the second floor of the Miyako Hotel. Small but comfortable - lots of soft couches, loungers, tables, booths. Very very friendly service! Fun crowd of japanese business travelers, tourists and locals hanging out in J-Town. Nothing is intimidating about this karaoke parlor which makes it nice. You are almost guaranteed after a drink or two to feel comfortable to go up and croon out a bon jovi, Abba (yes the japanese still love dancing queen)...utada or a sinatra tune. Has a great selection of classics, english, chinese, korean of course japanese tunes to select from. Great sounding audio equipment as well. Great fun. Of course hotel price drinks but not too bad. You need to pay $6 to enter and sit but well worth it on a busy night - It seems like this place is more popular later in the evening especially on the weekends when a good share of the hotel patrons return after having a beer or two with dinner elsewhere. Pretty dead on the weeknights. Good selection of japanese beers and sake as well. I was at Ohjah Lounge on a Tuesday night because the Far Bar was packed with a line out the door. This lounge by comparison was SO dead. The owner/manager was a nice japanese lady that greeted everyone at the bar. There's a $6 cover to sit at the chairs, which also includes unlimited karaoking. We opted to sit at the bar with a few other patrons, mainly japanese business men. I tried their special Za-za juice drink, which tasted a bit like a light prune juice with vodka. read more

This is a little hidden place in the hotel. I almost feel bad making this public as I want this to remain a secret gem. If you've ever seen lost in translation and saw Bill Murray alone in the hotel, that's what this place is like. I love it, the staff is beyond kind and the drinks they make are not just pour and serve. Nice staff and good english song selection. It's a fun time. BUT KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU'RE DRINKING. Others and I have gotten some really unusual bills here. I'll get the same drink but the price will vary 2 to 3 dollars each visit, and sometimes there's a "+ $1.50" to the drink and sometimes there isn't. Sometimes they charge you to sing and sometimes they don't. Keep track. The drink prices are about 50% higher than at other spots nearby, but that's fine. I can decide whether or not to stay. Maybe ask them how much your drink costs and keep track on your phone. Or pay as you go, don't open a tab if possible. edit: straight up dishonest... if you don't speak japanese, pay super super close attention to what they're charging you... not blaming everybody, the female staff has never ripped me off but there's two male bartenders, a younger guy in his 20's and an older guy in his mid to late 40's who has done this enough times where I'm ruling out honest mistakes... two stars only for the female staff members who work hard and are very nice. read more

That bartender hates his job. Having said that, the rest is the rest. He hates people because of the karaoke. So he should just stop having people over!! But he can't because that's what makes business running. And he is not the boss. So he should consider being nicer to the customer because he acts like an asshole all the time. I have met some pretty awesome people and singers here. The service is wonderful - I never have a huge tab because I don't drink, but the waitresses take really good care of me. I would order several cups of hot matcha and an order of cold tofu, but stay there for hours on end. They always make sure random people don't bother me when I'm there. This place has really good vibes, and the crowd is usually pretty classy. :) read more

My partner and I absolutely love Ohjah Lounge! We've been coming here for a few months now when we get some extra money, and it's always a blast. We love singing Japanese and English songs, and Ohjah is the only lounge we've found where people are in to both! Kei is awesome, and sometimes even sings with us. This review is just for Ohjah lounge. It's a really cute and intimate lounge with a great karaoke selection and tasty drinks =). I never thought I'd find another karaoke place with up-to-date song selections that would come close to Max Karaoke, but this one does! It doesn't have as many of the current songs, but it does come pretty close, and that's a really good sign. I went with a friend who entered a karaoke competition there, and we had a great time. The crowd was friendly and really fun, the waitresses cute and attentive - always checking on us to make sure we had everything we wanted. I would definitely go back!! read more

(Fade to glimmering, flashback memories of a packed karaoke crowd, with everyone getting involved, even throwing song requests out at their fellow strangers.) What we had was beautiful. Ahh, I can still vividly remember that "I Kissed a Girl" Katy Perry duet moment as I nommed on a constantly re-filled complementary snack bowl. What happened in the past year since that magical night? Went here with friends on a Saturday night, and the place was completely empty besides a couple patrons at the bar, who didn't seem at all amused by the fact they were in a karaoke bar. It basically was us three rotating through the queue the entire night, with maybe a random person throwing in a song or two - not very fun to be the only ones singing unless you're in a private room with a big group of people (at least to me). It also seems they cut my microphone off after we paid the bill even though I had one song still queued up.
