My friends and I had just returned from a cruise and had one evening to enjoy in Miami. As carnivores, we thought this restaurant would be an appropriate choice for dinner. We were so surprised and impressed by the service, quality, value, and execution of food. Alberto was our main waiter who was supported by additional staff who were friendly and attentive- simply professional and hospitable. We tried the ham croquettes, melted cheese with chorizo, and fried calamari for starters; and the tomahawk, rib eye, and picana steaks as our mains. The croquettes were so delicious with two dipping sauces- the green herbal one was a perfect pairing. The melted cheese was excellent, prepared and presented in a cast iron skillet with crisp edges. The fried calamari was delightful as well with large fresh pieces and accompanied by fried zucchini chips amidst the calamari. The stars of the show were the meats that were prepared just the way we wanted and like. Each person in our group ranked the meats in different order but we loved the taste with the sides- sweet potato fries, regular fries, grilled corn, and the salt and sauces. Disappointing experience at Ole Ole A friend and I visited Ole Ole while in Miami. It was early afternoon and the restaurant wasn't very busy. We ordered a sangria and two appetizers. Our waitress, Camilla, seemed friendly when she took our order, but unfortunately, once our drinks and food arrived, she never came back to check on us. It was a very hot day, and I had to ask another waiter for water. He brought me an entire pitcher, which made me feel like I was inconveniencing him. After that experience, we decided not to order anything else. We eventually had to wave our waitress down just to get the check, while she continued attending to other tables and never came back to ours. Like many restaurants in Miami, they automatically add a 20% gratuity. In my opinion, automatic gratuity can contribute to poor customer service because the server already knows the tip is guaranteed. I would have asked for it to be removed, but at that point, we simply wanted to leave. Unfortunately, even if the food was good, poor customer service leaves a bad taste and makes me not want to return. Having to repeatedly ask for something as basic as water on such a hot day was very disappointing. I'll be skipping Ole Ole in the future. To start, I was trying to eat at Tapelia and when we asked to be seated we were put in Ole Ole restaurant which was confusing but we went with it as we didn't want to sit outside. A short recap of the restaurant is the food is not worth the wait at all! We placed our order of drinks, appetizers and main dishes at 2:57. The restaurant was at maybe 60-70% capacity. Our drinks came relatively fast. When we noticed our patrons next to us had already almost finished their appetizers despite being seated AFTER we placed our order we started getting annoyed that our guacamole appetizer hadn't even appeared despite it now being 3:20! When Henry, the manager, asked if we were ok, we asked where our appetizers were in a respectful way and our waitress, Adriana, came by immediately saying, "you only ordered 5 min ago" with such atrocious attitude that wouldn't even be suited for an off Highway Diner. Henry did a great job trying to lighten the experience, and our guacamole did arrive shortly after. Then at 3:45 when we hadn't seen our waitress once since the previous encounter, and our main dishes hadn't arrived we went straight for Henry and he said, "oh you're food is done, are you ready for them?" As if we had to ask versus them arriving when done. They came immediately after. Henry offered to remove one of our appetizers for the trouble but did not. Which is fine, we hadn't expected it, though it was more just annoying as he said he would. I love to tip good service, though this is a prime example of why it is not ok for 20% to be automatically included in a check. The patrons next to us had a different server and their food came out with great time and they seemed to have the experience we were hoping for when we arrived. So I would have happily tipped their server 20%, however Adriana did not deserve hers and by automatically getting it there is no way for her to be motivated to improve. Onto food, three of us ordered a salad with steak, I forget the name but the steak was so hard to cut and even harder to chew. The other in our group ordered the Chiro Burger? And there was chorizo in it, and lacked flavor per him. The guacamole was delicious as were the fries but the melted cheese with chorizo was not good. The host that sat us down forgot my menu and said he'd come back with another one but never did so I waited for someone else's. We got the fried calamari, churrasco skirt steak, steak fajitas, chori burger, and seafood pasta. The seafood pasta was the best! Very flavorful. The skirt steak did not favor well. Whenever my husband and I visit Miami, we make it a point to spend time on Lincoln Road, where there are great shops and restaurants! Tonight, we had dinner at "Ole Ole Steakhouse," located along Lincoln Rd., which was recommended to us by the nice gentleman at the Hotel Concierge. My husband opted for the "24 Oz. Ribeye" which was the only size they offered, and he also had a "Ceasat Salad." I had the "Fried Whole Snapper." Way too much food! My fried fish was fresh and crispy! They have a large outdoor patio area and a small indoor dining area. Food we had: mussels, cheese dip, classic mix plate, surf and turf, chocolate cake, cheesecake. Picture this, it's a warm Thursday night (low 70s, high 60s) around 8:15pm. The outdoor restaurant is packed with life, no free tables in sight. Massive amounts of steak complement a fun conversation with friends. The perfect evening. Provoleta: While I like fondue and queso dip, there is a special place in my heart reserved for Argentine provoleta. It crisps on the bottom and is stringy throughout. Such a nice chew. The choice of pita was a bit odd, but just an excuse to savor the cheese. Calamares Ali Oli: The slices were bigger than typical fried calamari. So I got to enjoy the firm slightly rubbery (in a good way) texture against the cleanly fried batter, which was nice since many places you just taste the batter. I especially like the slightly spicy and smoky dip for this. Prime Aged Tomahawk Rib Steak: Thankfully my reading comprehension and math skills are sufficient, so I know this was priced by the pound and weight about 3 pounds. Apparently other people get sticker shock. It was totally worth it! A massive slap of ribeye of high quality. The natural beef tastes and grill sears were just magical. I actually preferred just a small sprinkle of salt crystals to enhance the flavor, instead of masking it. I saved the steak sauces for the fries. Fries: Thick. Crispy on the outside with lots of pasty goodness inside. Sangria: A surprise complimentary gift at the end. Tasted lighter than regular sangria, almost soda like. This was an amazing place to try for our time in Miami!! The service and food were truly outstanding. Great place to watch games ( have an outdoor sitting in the back ). Our waiter treated us like family and recommended the ribeye! We ordered an extra side of asparagus since it only came with one side. Steak was enough to feed two (or three) people. However, the quality of the food was not there. The fries were stale, the meats were ok nothing memorable. Honestly it's more of a tourist trap, which you're better off going to Cheesecake Factory down the street. We sat outdoors since it was a breezy night. I went to use the restroom and there was an awful smell, it smelled like an old bar/pub when you drop beer on a carpet and never clean it up, or a wet mop that has never dried. The floor was dirty and slippery from all the grease and food. The batch room is in a back alley next to the kitchen and the bathroom is in really bad shape. It felt only proper to end our trip with steak and Spanish food which is how we ended up at Ole Ole Steakhouse on our last night in Miami. The outdoor seating on Lincoln Street makes for a nice ambiance for people watching as you dine, particularly when it cools down in the evening. Although the restaurant name features steak, we were most curious about the seafood paella here which features Valencia rice and mix of seafood (shrimp, mussels, clams, etc). On the menu, it's advertised as a two person portion but I'd say only if that's the only thing you're ordering because it was humongous! Definitely delicious though with giant portions of fresh seafood. We also ordered the garlic shrimp upon our server's recommendation and really enjoyed dipping the pita bread into the glorious garlicky, buttery sauce. And of course, we had to get the steak to which our choice was the picanha which came with fries. A solid choice albeit not the best one we've had. I'd skip the white sangria as I was expecting it to look as festive as the red sangria but was met with disappointment at its lack of fruits and questionable flavor. Overall, we still really enjoyed our dining experience and was impressed by the tasty food we ordered and their generous portion sizes. I Ordered fin fin burger and it came out rare when I asked for medium well and it literally fell apart when I picked it up so I told server and he returned it and brought me back the same burger with a new bun with only about 70% of the meat left and no toppings except cheese missing the pork belly and caramelized onions and no sauces. The size of the burger was relatively so small I thought it was a kids burger or an appetizer slider. The fries- all 10 of them was fries I someone would get at the grocery store and tasted like that .
