I came here on a Tuesday night with two of my dear friends and had a lovely time. Usually I don't come out for Korean food, but I was very impressed with the quality of this restaurant. The kimchi pancake was actually startlingly good - I don't prefer jeon too much, but it had a lovely crispiness and the perfect amount of sourness to go along with it. The bossam was very nice too with the variety of side items to enjoy with the meat - I liked the touch of making the radish look like a flower. I also really enjoyed the tteokbokki - I wish they had given us 3 quail eggs (one per person), but I guess we can't have it all. The bounciness of the rice cakes was soooo nice, and that's my favorite part of tteokkbokki dish so great job there. I will say the fried chicken was just normal, but then again I'm not personally a huge fan of Korean fried chicken anyways. Hoping for a nice calm dinner, my partner and I went over to Ondam. I was really craving Bossam, so we ordered that as well as the fried chicken board. I was kinda shocked, but the dishes were both really good. The pork belly was super tender and the side dishes were nice. Ondam is an ambient restaurant with great service. I would say it has the same pricepoint as other Korean restaurants in the area, maybe more expensive by $2-7 for each dish. I think it is best for a group of 4, every dish is meant for family style. Things I liked: ambiance, service, hot tea, banchan, sauces. These came plentiful (see picture where the banchan and sauces covered the entire table). My favorite dish was the traditional tteokbokki. The sauce reminds me of galbi-jjim: sweet and flavorful, not spicy. Bossam is pretty standard. No complaints. Beef tartare bibimbap was interesting. Very sweet taste profile that I got a little sick of by the end. Good for 4 ppl, not really for 1-2. It came with a soup that I really liked. Clam kalguksu was okay. The soup had a strong clam flavor, which we noticed but did not mind. It is a decent comfort soup. I don't think I am a big kalguksu fan. Do not get the seafood steamer. It is not worth the money. Had the most delicious dinner here!! Wait time Friday late night 8:30 pm was about 10-15 min where we joined Yelp waitlist and check in at front. The menu is cute and looks like a traditional Korean door back in the days. I ordered the beef soon du boo and bf ordered the Mixed version. I have to say they had the best tasting ban chans ive had in the area!! I feel like most korean restaurants i feel underwhelmed eating the ban chans but here, every dish was spot on in terms of flavor and i had to get refillls of almost everything!! The macaroni salad, spinach and kimchi were our favorites but i loved all of them!!! We also ordered the seafood pancake and it ate!!! Has alot of ingredients, thick and not oily or salty, so delicious. The soon doo boos were also very delicious! I would say second to Kunjip tofu house in mt view (higher price point tho). The soup is hot and delicious!! I really like the container the rice comes in, it like creates the crispy rice at the bottom which i love and is unique! It was surprised by how many Chinese people loved this restaurant as well.. like almost everyone was Chinese! So the flavor palette must reach everyone as well! Definitely put your name on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time if you're going on a Sat night during the dinner rush. We walked in and got seated in 5 minutes (and there was a line where the hostess quoted 30 minutes). We ordered the Galbi Jjim and the bulgogi- both were AMAZING!! we definitely over ordered as portions were HUGE. So recommend coming with more than 2 people. A modern take on traditional Korean food, with nice plating, aesthetics, and interior. Came by on a Saturday afternoon, and wasn't too busy so we got seated right away. Service was nice and friendly, very quick and attentive. However, in my opinion, the food was okay. The portions of the food were fine, reflective of the prices, but the quality and taste wasn't what I expected. I saw a lot of reviews and posts online thinking it would be amazing but I thought of it as subpar. We ordered 3 things: Octopus Sot Bap - Very underwhelming, supposed to be a stone-pot rice, with assortment of veggies and the meat of choice with sauce. We got the octopus one, and the octopus was very tough. The sauce was okay, and it didn't really blow us away. The plating made it look really good and appetizing, but was quite bland. Portion is slightly on the smaller side, but it did come with a beef and radish soup to compliment. The soup was delightful. 2.5/5 Algoni Soft Tofu - Very good flavors, seafood flavor, algoni is like fish intestines, and sometimes roe. The tofu soup itself had a great flavor, came with an ample amount of rice and an egg. The fish intestines were overcooked, so they were quite gritty, but it flavored the soup very well. 3.5/5 Korean Traditional Tteokbokki - Good tteokbokki, very soft and chewy, large portion filled with glass noodles, fishcake, and bulgogi. The dish was a bit too sweet, I was expecting it to be slightly savory, but it was too sweet. I came by on Friday afternoon around 12:30 pm with a friend and it was busy. Order on the tablet and staff came by to confirm the order. The service overall was good throughout. Despite the up-scale interior of the restaurant, the food here is still fairly affordable. Kimchi Pancake (5/5): for only $11, this was probably the best value dish. Although it was smaller than anticipated, it was still delicious. The pancake was a bit crunchy with a hint of kimchi. The immediate ambiance when you walk in is quite nice. The lighting is adjusted perfectly, giving it that elegant, but also homey kind of feel. Came here to rate the star of the show: the raw marinated crab. Never tried it before, but this place makes me crave it soooo often. Definitely a shareable potion among 2-3 people. We got these things: Beef tofu soup (3/5): they load the tofu soup with mushrooms, tofu, and beef which was nice and filling. Unfortunately the soup itself was bland and flavorless. Kimchi dumplings (5/5): kinda pricey, but the dumplings are huge and came with a spicy and sweet sauce. The dumpling texture was soft and chewy which I loved. Pork sot bap (4/5): the sot bap was pricey for what it is, but it was solid. Not as many veggies as a normal bibimbap. This was just a lotttt of rice and spicy pork. Ok Korean restaurant! Food was good, but not great especially considering it's supposed to be more high end. Came with some family on a Friday evening at 5pm. By 5:30pm, the place was already crowded. We got the bossam, seafood pancake, fried chicken platter, tteokbokki, and the mushroom shrimp dish and a soup I didn't get pictures of. My favorites were the tteokbokki and chicken platter - minus the glazed/ sauced chicken in the middle of the platter, for some reason all of us agreed it wasn't as good as the other fried chicken flavors. The bossam was good with the meat being very tender. The seafood pancake is pretty batter-y so I don't think I would recommend it. We were unfortunately also seated by the door which kept opening and closing from people coming in with the cold actually making my girlfriend sneeze and got her sick. So my advice would be to avoid that table if possible! Otherwise it was fun to eat here for the hype but I do think there are better Korean places in Santa Clara. First the prices were great, it was definitely one of the more affordable Korean places I've dined at in the Bay Area, their prices for the kalguksu were great for how big the bowls were. We got the clam and jjampong kalguksu and they were both delicious and with plenty of seafood. The kimchi pancake is a must order it was so crispy and not overly fried. The chicken platter was also great with diff variety of sauces too. The marinated crab was however not the best I've tasted or didn't seem as fresh as I thought it could have been. I also read other reviews about service being good but we went on a Sunday night and service was ok, it was hard to get hold of any waiter at times to ask for water / etc, and they also didn't offer to refill our banchan at any point. Ondam has been on my foodie list for a while now. The interior was very cute and modern. They seem to have gotten really busy after we sat down. Service here was very attentive despite it being busy. Food came out swiftly. The staff even served us our jjambbong jeongol soup in a bowl. To be honest, I felt like it could have been even spicier. Love how they torch the egg for the kimchi fried rice. The rice could be more crispier. Still great flavor though. My fave dish of the night was the cypress wood steamer dish with beef & veggies. The meat was so soft and paired with the dipping sauce, it was so yummy. The seafood pancake wasn't bad. Good amount of seafood. I prefer it crispier as well. Great portion size! Flavor-wise, the marinade leaned too sweet for our tastes, and for the price, the value just wasn't there. The mushroom shrimp has a different, harder breading now almost like a shell. The kimchi Banchan is flavorless. The radish Banchan isn't even pickled, so it's just radish... The menu is out dated. It feels comfortable and classy. We ordered the following items for 4 people and shared it family-style: Ondam Bossam ($41.99): my favorite out of everything we ordered! The presentation was beautiful, flavors and textures paired perfectly. I loved how the succulent pork belly paired with the crunch of the vegetables! I do wish it came with more napa cabbage though because we ran out of that before the pork belly was finished. Love Ondam! There's tons Korean restaurants just on El Camino alone and there's many that are really good so it might be hard to decide. Depending on your vibe, Ondam gives off nice aesthetic, date night, lowkey/chill with drinks and great food. Raw Marinated Crab - on a hunt for the best one around South Bay. Saw these on the menu and it was the main reason for coming but they were just okay. Luckily everything else was so on point. Ondam Mini Cheese Tteok - ordered these twice and they're so good. Hard to describe the flavor but explaining here might be interesting. "Mozzarella Rice Cake with American Cheese" sounds normal but I think it had condensed milk. Crunchy, cheesy, a little sweet - it was literally the perfect app. Kimchi Kalguksu - so refreshing with all veggies and I love the thick noodles that it came with! Beef Soft Tofu (level 2 spicy) - great flavors but not spicy enough. Maybe level 3 next time. Tteokbokki - can never go wrong with this dish. Good! Steamed Dumpling - wow.. eaten so many dumplings and these became one of my favorites. Would definitely order these again or order the kimchi dumplings next time... or both.. A lovely sit down Korean restaurant with good traditional korean food! Despite the premium atmosphere the food isn't as pricey as you might expect. The kimchi pancake was only 10 dollars too! The food was good but nothing too outstanding. The kimchi pancake lacked some crispiness, but was nicely flavoured. Should probably go for the seafood one next time. Despite the hype behind the fried chicken platter, I was honestly a bit disappointed. The flavours were a bit bland and it was not crispy as well. The clam Kalguksu was good but the broth not as flavourful or creamy as imagined The beef brisket bowl definitely saved the day though. Definitely add the sauce! It greatly enhanced the flavours! The meat was very tender, and the bowl deeper than you imagine, packed with a lot of vegetables. The banchan was also very good! Service overall was very good! pretty underwhelming and overall very mid experience. the service wasn't insanely great either. the restaurant was the rose tteokbokki was creamy and cheesy but the flavor was a bit off. i feel like they were missing something but couldnt out my finger on it. the chicken was like tiny pieces and not that juicy. felt like dry skin pieces and had weird after tastes. the cheese gimbap was not good. the ingredients did not feel cohesive at all. i think the rice should have been sticker and less hard/cold. the side dishes were also so incredibly underwhelming. the best part was the yeolmu gooksu. it was refreshing and balanced out the very average meal. for the price point and the dishes we tried, i would not revisit. read more
