Ever since we switched from L&L Hawaiian to Ono Hawaiian, it was a game-changer. Back where in-laws area had only L&L and not Ono so we only had one choice. One day when we discovered Ono at a different location, we had to try. I like the friendly and energetic vibe from Ono. All the L&L we went to didn't have any energetic vibe. All the menu on the board is easy to see and easy to order cause it had a number on each plate combo. My husband's favorite is the Chicken Katsu plate and my favorite is either kalua combo or Kalbi short rib combo. We like the flavor and the volume of the combo. Online or phone pickup, what's the difference? On one occasion, an employee was refilling that very same container with lidded sauces AT the very dispenser customers are directed to. He's using the dispenser and prepping sauces. I ask? May I take a few?". He rudely says "No, this is not for customers, you have to make your own". Really? Is that store policy, just pure laziness to do more work later, or just pure stupidity? Unfortunately, it's the handful of employees that ruin it for others, therefore, 0. This is a clean, new restaurant. Cashier (Leslie?) was friendly and food was cooked quick despite the great amount of customers. I ordered the seafood plate and fresh coconut (used a coupon). The order came with tartar sauce and you can get hot sauce, teriyaki sauce, and condiments by the fountain drink machine. I must say, I'm actually impressed with this place. I normally don't like Hawaiian food, so honestly I didn't really have high standards for this place. Boy, they proved me wrong. I got the #2 Chicken Katsu plate ($7.99), which comes with 2 scoops or rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and chicken katsu. They have 2 sauces that you can get on your own: katsu sauce and teriyaki sauce. I love that because I love drowning my food in sauce, so usually if they gave me individual sauces it probably wouldn't be enough. They also have lemons on the side, so I also grabbed a bunch to squeeze onto my chicken katsu. The plate is definitely enough to fill me up. I actually had a few pieces of chicken left over because I was so full. I normally don't like rice, but once I poured some sauce over their rice, then it adds the flavor to the rice. Even though their sauce seems to save everything, their chicken katsu is tasty on its own as well. I didn't think that it was dry or flavorless, and I was perfectly fine eating it without the sauce...though the sauce adds to it. We ordered our food to go, and when we got back home the food was still hot, even though we made a detour to get drinks. Everything tastes so freshly made, and I'm left wanting more of it with each bite. They don't give you too little of anything. The katsu takes up half the plate, but that's because it's the main thing. There's just enough rice and just enough macaroni salad. I used to frequent this Ono Hawaiian BBQ location and I forgot why I stopped going... until tonight. I ordered extra rice instead of the "veggies" with my mini Katsu but when I got home I got more Mac salad. They repeated my order twice and still got it wrong. My main complaint is with the katsu itself. Would it even be called Chicken Katsu if there's barely any chicken in it? It's literally a really thin slice of chicken and a whole lot of breaded coating. If I wanted bread then I would've ordered a sandwich. For the price, I would expect to have more chicken in my Katsu. Husband and I went on Friday evening and purchased 2 chicken and beef combo meals. At about 2:30 am I felt ill. I realized that I had food poison from undercooked chicken. It did take a while to prepare, but it came out freshly grilled and very moist. No weird fishy taste either. It was very simple with some pepper and lemons on the side. The fish came with rice, steamed veggies, and Mac salad. The portions are large, too, and costs about $11. My experience at Ono Hawaiian is a love and hate relationship. The food is decent since it is considered to be fast food. Decent flavor of grill chicken and beef. Price is relatively reasonable; I had ordered 2 orders of spam musubi and a chicken combo which totaled to $20 dollars. HORRIBLE Service. I wanted to give this place a good rating so badly, because I both love hawaiian food as well as the Ono chain. However, I've never been treated worse at a restaurant, even a "fast food" chain like this. I came in about lunch time on a Tuesday to get some lunch to go, and after standing in front of the register for 3-5 whole minutes, someone finally came to help me, in an almost empty restaurant. The middle-aged Chinese woman rudely asked me "What?" and took my order, after which she proceeded to talk about me right in front of me with her coworkers in Cantonese. I don't know why she assumed that I couldn't speak Cantonese, but she couldn't be more wrong. After talking about the way I was dressed and laughing at my appearance, I kind of just walked away to wait for my food a more comfortable distance from them. When my food finally came out, not only was it cold, it literally looked like they tried to make it look as bad as possible. The box was half filled with rice and chicken, the cole slaw was all over the place, and there was no lettuce lining bottom like usual. As a slap in the face, they didn't include any of the katsu sauce with my meal and didn't have any dispensers out so that I could get my own. Had I not been in a huge rush, I definitely would have filed a complaint, but I was in a hurry to get home so I just left, and I definitely will not be back here. What a shame. read more

This is a good place considering when you're in the San Gabriel Valley and in Alhambra the majority of restaurants are Chinese cuisine, so if you're craving something different, here's something to try, 'tho it's still Asian (Polynesian Pacific Islander) Hawaiian, it's still different from the norm of the majority in the area. It has more of the Japanese influence to it, and I tried a combo BBQ plate with Galbi/Kalbi Beef Rib, Beef Slices and Dark Meat Chicken, all grilled, none fried, and they were all good, but I'd have to say the Chicken (and I typically only like White Meat) was the most tasty and it was marinated to perfection. It came with Rice and Mac Salad, but the macaroni salad needed a bit of salt and pepper to bring out the flavor. Overall, it's a good place where you can get a meal for $7-10 after tax. Parking is not too difficult, as it shares the same lot as many businesses like Big 5 Sporting Goods and a few Chinese Restaurants and is in the somewhat more secluded area too. The service was fast and friendly and food quality, quantity portions, and pricing was fair. I go to Hawaiian places in the South Bay Beach Cities like King's Hawaiian and The Local Place as well as The Loft usually. Besides the BBQ Chicken, Ribs, and Beef, they also come with 2 scoops of rice & a scoop of macaroni salad.
