    Yakitori

Stopped by with the intention to try the cute desserts I had seen on display on a previous day. Unfortunately on this day there were zero desserts and the wait staff didn't know if they would have them back. We stayed anyway and decided to try some of the yakitori, cold cucumber and mopu tofu. There was definitely a language barrier with the staff and the menu. The translations on the menu were mostly incorrect so it was very difficult to understand and order. The sever tried to help as much as she could but she also had trouble translating so we ended up using Google translate, which limited the items we ordered. We ended up settling on beef brisket, sirloin and prawns. I enjoyed the seasoning which seemed to be the same in all (spicy and lots of cumin), but my friend thought they were too spicy and there was no way to know what was spicy or not so she couldn't order anything else. Also other items were mostly lamb or seafood but we didnt see any chicken and no pork as per the translation and per the server. We arrived at dinner opening time and although we were only one of three other tables, the service and food arrival was very slow. Besides the language barrier, it was confusing trying to figure out the name of the place, there is signage outside which says Flora but Google still has Orange Bistro which was the previous establishment name and the receipt was all in Chinese so that was no help with figuring it out either -but here we are, review under Orange Bistro Anyway, because I do like spicy food and enjoyed the yakitori, I'll return hopefully to try other food items with someone who understands the language and hopefully to find the cute desserts. Also, noticed a large group of men just hanging out ordering lots of food and BYOB so seems to be a chill and laid back spot to hang out.

The restaurant is now under new ownership and has shifted its focus to charcoal-grilled skewers, available exclusively during dinner service. Fortunately, they've kept some of the original Taiwanese menu, offering the best of both worlds. The skewers are outstanding--beautifully grilled with a deep, smoky charcoal flavor in every bite, enhanced by a bold and aromatic spicy cumin seasoning. Each one was cooked to perfection. A standout dish was the eggplant with century egg. Presented in a mortar and pestle, the dish combines soft, smoky eggplant with grilled peppers for a punch of flavor, while the century egg adds a pleasantly springy texture that ties everything together. We also loved the crispy pumpkin coated in salted egg yolk. With its golden, crunchy exterior and sweet, tender pumpkin center, each bite delivered a rich, savory burst of salted egg yolk flavor. For dessert, the crispy mochi rolls with peanut powder and brown sugar were a perfect finish--crispy outside, chewy inside, and just the right amount of sweetness. All in all, a fantastic dinner and a great value at around $20 per person (including tip). Highly recommended!

Stir-fried Cured Pork with Dried Tofu This combo is absolutely perfect. The smoky aroma of the cured pork blends beautifully with the bean flavor of the tofu. The spiciness is just right--not overpowering--so it doesn't mask the natural flavors. Great choice for those who prefer lighter tastes. Stir-fried Yellow Beef The beef is tender and carries a nice wok aroma. It goes incredibly well with rice--super satisfying. Spicy Hot Pot (Mao Xue Wang) Packed with real ingredients--not just for show. Every bite is full of substance, and it's very satisfying overall. Charcoal-Grilled Beef Ribs (Highly Recommended!) This turned out to be the biggest surprise of the night. The charcoal aroma is strong, yet the meat is juicy and not dry at all. Every bite is bursting with flavor--we couldn't stop eating and finished the plate in no time. Brown Sugar Glutinous Rice Cakes (My Fave ) Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside. The portion is bigger than what I've had at other places. Each piece is coated in rich brown sugar syrup--so addictive! I had three pieces all by myself and still wanted more, haha!

Orange Bistro serves a very specific niche, which is providing more upscale dining for Taiwanese immigrants. You don't see too many Taiwanese restaurants these days, and those that exist are typically your bento-style rice set or snack shops. Here they provide a banquet style setting for authentic Taiwanese style dishes (as noted by my dad, a Taiwanese immigrant). Their dishes are quite large portions which caught me by surprise with my initial thought of it being a typical Taiwanese restaurant in the area. For myself I chose the oyster cake. This is probably the most elevated quality of this I tried, having only eaten it in the US. The texture is completely consistent throughout where you don't get any lumpiness from the starch. While I wished there was slightly more egg in the proportioning, I enjoyed the dish, including the sauce which was well balanced. We shared the sesame oil noodle and the century egg and basil stinky tofu. The noodle was very simple with just sesame oil and whatever type of noodle you call it. The flavor was nostalgic and had a very Taiwanese essence. The stinky tofu was interesting, as I've never had fried century egg. It was nicely pleasant with a looser yolk and softer egg white texture somewhat reminding me of egg yolk fried dishes but more subtle and complex. The tofu itself was decent, but my dad wished it was stinkier and I wish it was crunchier. My brother chose the jalapeño lamb (you can pick beef or lamb but we love lamb). I really enjoyed the way they prepared the jalapeños which were mild-medium and sliced thin the way you might see bell peppers in a stir fried dish. The texture was perfect to me with them being slightly crunchy but cooked through. It wasn't too oily overall but being a stir fried meat dish it can come off a bit heavy since the residual oil pools at the bottom. But definitely not as greasy feeling as I've had. They offered a complimentary aiyu jelly and grass jelly mix dessert, which is a combination I've never encountered. It was a nice little treat at the end with acidity from the typical lemon aiyu with some herbal notes from the grass jelly. Overall I think the food quality deserves 5 stars as I would love to come back again to try a lot of their menu items. I appreciate that this restaurant exists to serve this specific niche to have upscale food native Taiwanese people like to eat. While I personally would come rarely because I don't have that much money at the moment (roughly $25-$30 per person for my dad, brother and me), I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to others who love or want to try Taiwanese food beyond your popcorn chicken, Taiwanese sausage, or pork cutlet rice set.

I think this place is just okay. The food is decent but the price point is on the higher side. The place is clean and service is quick though. Free parking on the street or the structured around Main St.

Great lunch specials - beef spinach in satay sauce, 3 cup chicken, and braised whole fish covered in silken tofu and brown sauce (only $16). Also got oyster omelette and stinky tofu, not stinky at all but crispy and so yum, they should just rename it "fried tofu'.

Great classic Taiwanese food! Restaurant inside was clean and modern looking with a few larger tables with lazy susans along with smaller tables. I would recommend coming with a larger group as the dishes are pretty large. You get complimentary peanuts and sardines fish (?) which was tasty. My favorite dish was the fish that had lots of garlic and seasoning, with a layer of tofu underneath -- so flavorful, just watch out for bones. We also got three cup combo that came with chicken, squid, and we added pigs blood cake -- pretty classic, chicken was a little hard to eat as full of bones but to be expected. Green onion pancake was thin and crispy, tasted good with the sauce from the fish. We ended with taro and grass jelly dessert which was perfectly creamy and not too sweet, just wish it had some sago. Parking is easy on the street or in the free structure behind the store.

Really clean place and parking is available in the structure. Entrance is also available in the back so we were greeted by this long scroll of Chinese characters and drawing which is really cool to see. The food was just like how I imagined back in Taiwan: The stinky tofu, the pig ears, the lofa and the piping hot pot. All to die for. We didn't leave one plate empty Except for the shaved ice which we had to take home. We came a little late so it was just my friend and I chowing down the food with the waiter and the owner of the restaurant. We chatted with the owner and just had a blast chatting about the food and delicacies! I will be back! Definitely coming again

This is the many times that we have been back . Still loving the authentic taste of the taiwanese dishes. It's always fully packed and there is not enough walking areas among the tables, but it's nostalgic for me. MUST try if you love Taiwanese food.

The food was good and authentic. The service was great. Too bad they did not have the barbecue stews for today. Will come back and try next time.

As the name of the bakery implies, it's "Perfectly Sweet"…read more I'm generally a bit more wary of purchasing baked goods from non-Asian bakeries since they tend to be sweeter than what my palate likes, but not here! The hours are a bit limited, but I managed to make it in time to grab some pre-made baked goods to go. I got a bag of coconut macaroons, bag of several chocolate chip cookies, 2 red velvet cookies, a baked dog cookie biscuit, and a cute Keroppi sugar cookie. Most of these ended up being gifts, but I did enjoy one of the red velvet cookies and for an already sweet flavor profile with white chocolate chips in it, I was already fearing the worse, but went perfect with a glass of milk. The edges were nicely crisped by the baking too. Delicious. Love that they had a stock of cute, pre-decorated cookies available as well (some Sanrio characters, animals, etc.) They also list all the ingredients used in each of the baked goods that they have prepackaged, which is nice. It's also a cafe where you can order drinks, as well as a place you can order cakes custom order or what they have behind the glass already. There's both seating inside and outside.

Its a small shop on Main in Alhambra and there's a lot in the back as well as street parking. It's a brightly lit, pick up and go type place though there are a couple tables out front. The baked goods look really cute and enticing and I ended up going for a mystery box since I wasn't after a specific cake and the mystery aspect seemed appealing. I also got 6 egg tarts, which were a great price at $1 each. The baked goods/sweets looked better than they tasted flr me. The egg tarts had a texture that was a bit off putting for myself, it was more of a steamed egg texture than a silky custardy filling. Flavorwise, they were ok though. The mystery box was fun and I got an apple cake, peach cake, and a panda cake. Now the mystery box is day old cakes so keeping that in mind, they are like cream based "cakes" and are essentially cream covered gels/jellies of some sort. The flavor and textures were good, very light cream with strong fruit flavors (the panda was also a peach flavor, I think). As a set of the mystery box price, I think the cakes are fun to try but I wouldn't, personally, pay those prices for essentially shaped cream. I'm glad I tried a new spot but ultimately don't think it was super impressive and found most of their desserts and baked items to be average, or a little less so as for the egg tarts.

It's also filled with a light, soft cream. DELICIOUS! I arrived at Old Ferry Donut (San Gabriel) on a Wednesday (around 3:42PM). Parking is simple. There's a competitive customer parking lot. And there's a city public parking lot about a two minute walk away. Staff is very friendly, professional, and welcoming. Staff maintained a bright smile throughout my visit. Staff immediately helped me. Customers can order at the self-service kiosk or counter; however, the kiosk felt very dated & the prices on the kiosk felt less transparent. I recommend just ordering at the counter. There's no penalty for using card at this donut establishment. As mentioned, I love the Tiramisu Donut ($4.95). It's not too sweet; rather, it all felt balanced. However, this is a VERY messy donut; I recommend eating this donut with a fork and knife. The powder fall everywhere, and your clothes can quickly get stained with chocolate powder. Still, it's a delicious pastry. On ambiance, Old Ferry Donut (San Gabriel) is comfortable. This business is more reminiscent of a cafe than a typical donut shop. There's customer internet with password; details on the counter. There's a gender neutral restroom. And there's an electrical outlet & outlet adaptor for devices. The location is fairly small; there's one interior table and one small counter. Fortunately, this place felt airy and well-ventilated. There's also some upbeat, fun music in this clean spot. Overall, I found unexpected joy at Old Ferry Donut (San Gabriel). There's sincere passion & hard work within these walls.
