This has been a go to restaurant for my family for over 20 years and my most recent visit it's clear Orange Hill isn't what it used to be. For starters, They have removed chateaubriand from their menu and replaced it with a Tomahawk steak which is a complete disappointment since that cut is offered at just about any "decent" steakhouse. Second, the tables are looking rather ran down and no longer are being covered with table clothes, which completely changes the overall feel of the niceness of the restaurant. The waitress and bar staff were great, but thats just not enough to keep us coming back. Expectations should be high when one is spending roughly $500 on dinner for 4. Orange Hill use to set a very high standard and over the years they kept their own expectations high... for the first time I can actually say I would have probably enjoyed Morton's or even Fleming's much more. I hope they can turn it around and get back to their higher standards. Given the date of my review COVID really shouldn't be so much of an excuse anymore. read more

So far, our reservation was for 4:30 for a party of 6. We were here for our 25th Anniversary. We saw many folks come and go while we were waiting for our table. We were almost bothered by this, but we were finally seated at 4:54pm. Our server was Natalie...very pleasant and knowlegeable! Our party was served all entrees by 6:51pm and a good time was had by all. A special dessert was given to us besides our dessert that came w/the 3 course meal we ordered. Natalie mentioned our special day several times. We had a window table and we're seated just before sunset, so we got the full experience and that made our evening very special indeed! My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate his birthday and we were very unpleased with the service. Our server, Claudia, rarely checked up on us, never offered or mentioned the complimentary bread and butter, and did not check to see how our food came out. We did not see her from when we ordered our food to when we finished our food. Not to mention, she never said goodbye, thank you, or anything of the sort. I gave this two stars because we had a good waiter. We celebrated a birthday there last night. Everyone but me and there were six of us, ordered beef. I ordered the pasta. Three of us agreed was that there was something wrong with the meat. As in wrong I mean possibly it was old or decayed or freezer burned. Confidence was lost immediately and it went uneaten. When questioned, the waiter gave an explanation about the aging process and something about Australian style seasoning and aging. My pasta had a flavor that was unrecognizable. Celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary here. Hubby made reservations for our special day. The place is not hard to find, right where the stoplight is, there's the signage "Orange Hill" on my right (we came from the 405) and it's going up the hill. We used google maps to show us directions but it led us somewhere, so I'm just letting you know, the entrance is right where the stoplight is. Upon arrival, parking is via valet. Since our anniversary is in time for the holidays (December 26) we expected a lot of people. We weren't seated right away even though we had reservations. We waited like 15-20mins. Hubby specifically asked for the window view seats. I was in awe seeing the fantastic night scape view. What you're paying for here is indeed the view. To start off our orders, I asked for a glass of Moscato wine. We were served with some bread with butter while waiting. We got the 3-course meal, with either soup/salad, main course and dessert. Hubby got the Sea bass fish, I had the New York Steak with the Red wine sauce and I asked for the truffle sauce to try and for our desserts, the creme brûlée and the homemade salted caramel ice cream. To me, the whole experience is great! I loved how the Steak is made, very thick for the meat itself. All was flavorful. This is one of the best and memorable place we had been to as a couple. Went there for the first time on 12/7/10. The evening started off pretty good. We were seated quickly and ordered drinks. The waiter said our drinks and some bread would be there shortly. The drinks arrived - all is good. Then the busboy brought us some butter. Where's the bread? The waiter did notice this and finally brought some out. We ordered the soup of the day without realizing we didn't know what it was! The waiter brought our soup - some kind of Cream of Tomato? He then came back after he served us to tell us is was Tomato Basil with Chicken. Wondered if he overheard us asking what was in it. The soup was excellent. Our food was good - not ultra good, just good. Things were ok until a large group came in and took up the center dining room, maybe 12 guests? Well, from that point on we felt ignored. I asked for a refill on my drink and never received it. It took a while after our plates were cleared to get our bill. It seemed like the entire wait staff was focused on this large group. To top it off, the valet seemed to have a hard time finding our car, and it was right in front of us. I don't see any reason to go back. Oh yeah - the view is stunningly amazing! It's a great spot to come here with your family or group of friends.. $32.95 Sunday Brunch and $27.95 Saturday Brunch... You don't get the full options on Saturday Brunch... Both brunches include bottomless mimosas... They have a pretty big selection... from prime rib carving station, sushi station, omelet station, breads, fruits, cereals, kids section, MY FAV-Pasta Station, Crab legs, shrimp, salmon, pork, etc... they have a pretty good selection here.. And the view is awesome!! Plan of spending more than 2 hours enjoying the food, bottomless champagne and the view...The view in the day time is gorgeous, but the view at night time is even better. My girlfriend and I had our 2 year anniversary here this evening. Overall experience was was pleasant. Sat on the patio and had a fantastic view. Started off with a one in a melon and smoke and honey. Drinks were great can't complain at all. Started off with the calamari and Brussels. Calamari was just okay but the Brussels is where it's at. Fantastic. My girlfriend ordered the prime rib and it was cooked perfectly just a little too fatty but that's expected. I ordered the 12oz New York strip and a side of Mac. Strip was whatevers. Needed more seasoning to compliment the steak. As well as the steak coming a bit overdone I ordered med rare and it came out med well in the very center. Didn't complain cause my girlfriend likes her steak like that anyways. The little anniversary brownie dessert was amazing. Overall experience was okay I'd definitely come back just for our server Matthew M. He was the damn best. Super professional and funny as well. Very attentive and got everything I asked for immediately. One of the best servers I've had in a long time. Being a restaurant manager I can for sure vouch for him being a great worker and people person. He single handedly made the experience go from a 6 to a 10/10. Good work. read more

What happened Orange Hill? We love the restaurant as a place to bring all of our out of town guests... the brunch "was" known for its quality and selection. This time I expected chef Ramsey to pop out of the kitchen at any minute! The food quality was well below the expected level based on price. The girl serving prime rib was trying hard but obviously lacked training on how to cut or serve meat. She struggled to cut the thinnest possible slice possible and had no idea about trimming. The girl trying to serve poke had no one at her station. Probably because there was no signage on what she had available. The pastries and dessert offering looked like you went through the bakery section at Costco. No creativity, poor selection and uninspiring. The view continues to be your strongest asset but based on the number of open tables on a spectacular sunny day, I think we were the last to see the drop in value. Our serving team tried hard but were over worked with a large group. We had to have our drinks replaced twice due to the flying insects around the patio. I hate writing negative reviews but in this case I respect the restaurant too much to allow you to run this way unknowingly. We never say a manager or executive to share our views. Our servers asked multiple times to help the restaurant with a yelp review. I don't think they understand what they were going to get... good luck in the future but we'll rest a while before giving you another try. read more

this is for sunday brunch only. when i hear the word "buffet," images of aisles of food in Vegas mega-hotels appear in my mind. the brunch buffet here has a fraction of the selection one would find in Vegas. however, it's quality food. they have a "make your own pasta" section and a personalized omelette section. both of which i hear from my friends are good. what i've tried: the prime rib was delish.... but veers on the salty side, so beware. seared ahi was good, but also slightly salty. the beef stew was amazing.... so soft and perfectly seasoned. there's a salmon sushi with black sesame in a silver cupcake container that is mega-salty. yikes! seafood: your choices are king crab legs, shrimp, and mussels. i only had the crab legs, and they were perfect... not salted, so what you get is pure taste of crab. for dessert: you must indulge in the chocolate cake with coconut and (walnut perhaps) on top. it was to die for! but... there are no labels, so you have no idea what you are grabbing without bugging the waiter or the person next to you. the mocha coffee was also pretty good. one qualm i had is the spacing between the chairs. cannot push back your seat without bumping the person behind you, esp if you need to get in and out often. but.... we had window seating on a nice spring afternoon, so overall it was a great experience. just come with your appetite and no expectations.... and you will most likely have a good time with family & friends. enjoy! read more

If it weren't for the spectacular view I'm not sure I would be a big fan of this restaurant. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our drinks on the patio as well as the delicious appetizers , but I can not say the same for our main courses. My chicken was BEYOND dry and bland (I think it was even missing the walnuts) and his steak was just OK. Our server Bill was really helpful and alerted us when the fireworks at disneyland were going to start. If he hadn't of been so nice I probably would have complained about my horrible chicken dish, but whatever. For desert: chocolate covered strawberries injected with grand mariner YUM. I suggest coming here just to enjoy the view and get a little buzzed, definitely wouldn't invest money in the sub par main courses. read more

was here on a sunday night. surprise dinner by my bf = no expectations. drove up the hill and realized we were going to a fancier restaurant. mandatory valet, koi fish pond, beautiful view once I walked in to the restaurant. reservation for 2 at 7pm and was asked if we wanted to sit in or out. it was a warm night, so I asked for outside. hostess said it would be 30-45 min wait, so....how is that a reservation? so inside it is- it was a 10 min wait...fine! but I did have a reservation..... the hostess said we can switch to outside for dessert, which I was ok with. my bf and I both opted for the 3 course menu, choice of salad or soup, 12oz prime rib ($42) or sea bass ($48) and a dessert. so I went with French onion soup with sea bass and bf went with the salad with prime rib. his salad tasted decent, but my soup....my French soy sauce soup tasted like soy sauce! it was so salty it tasted like soy sauce with melted cheese. the bf tasted it and thought it tasted like soy sauce soup too, and he LOVES French onion soup. then comes the prime rib and the sea bass. prime rib, well, was prime rib, I was not "wow"ed by it, at least not a $42 "wow". it came with this potato thing...with lots of cheese...almost looked and tasted like potato lasagna- potatoes instead of pasta, cheese replaces tomato sauce. I had a bite and that was enough for me. my sea bass was baked...has some Asian chili sauce, purple rice, and a stalk of Chinese broccoli. my sea bass was tad bit overcooked. for $48 for a small pc of fish, I expect it to be cooked perfectly. it's chilen sea bass! it's such a yummy, buttery fish, it's a waste if it's overcooked...unfortunately, it was. the chili sauce was good, but it immediately reminds me of that chili sauce from the bottle for lumpias. befpre dessert came i asked if we can switch to sit outside....server said, it will be 45 mins to an hr wait...ok, scratch that. i thought they were working on that when i was having my soup and entrée?? so i admired the view from the inside, next to a loud party of 8. dessert came and I got the vanilla bean crème burlee and bf got some burnt caramel custard thing with cashew brittle. yes, it was really called "burnt caramel" on their menu. my crème burlee was very disappointing. it was pretty tasteless. I don't love sweets but it tasted like egg flavored softened butter...I decided not to waste my calories on that. bf's burnt caramel dessert was actually good. i would recommend that. service was overall pretty good. our server tried to be funny, not exactly successful at that. he asked me for feedback and i was brutally honest with him about my sea bass and crème burlee. i did forget to tell him about my soy sauce soup. i probably won't be back...there are places in LA to eat with a view and better food. now I'm going to make crème burlee that will kick that 3 $$$ restaurant's ass. read more

I loved it here. When you arrive they have valet to park your car. The food was great. The view was so romantic. My boyfriend took me here on a special occasion. Well he did a good job, cuz I felt special. The atmosphere was gorgeous. We sat on the patio next to a heat lamp, very cozy. We ordered a bottle of champagne and toasted to life :-) It was very expensive though!!!! This is for a special occasion or rich folk. Being dropped off here for Birthday Brunch (girls only) was the best thing ever. We celebrated my gf bday in style, however, buffet brunch is not my thing. I don't eat enough food to justify the hefty price tag per person. Truthfully, the food is just OK, but, my girl friend had her heart set on this restaurant, so no complaints. I actually got married here 13 years ago, and food is amazing. Their brunch items however, are just okay, nothing to brag about, the view on the hilltop however, is breath taking!!!! We drank so much, I can't even remember what we ate, and that's probably a good thing. Among discussing business, personal lives and just every day misshaps, ever bit of liquor was needed. Bar drinks are really good, champagne is good as well. Dessert, omg!!! I had 2 helpings of Banana Foster, delish!!!! and our server Leaf, was very attentive and on top of it all!! I took my girlfriend here for a romantic date night and it was the perfect place for it. But the only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because the bartender did not make a classic drink correctly. The bartender here did not know how to make GASP a white Russian. He added Milk and Kahlua but forgot the vodka! Other then the bartenders lack of common knowledge of drinks the place was utterly breath taking with an extremely high view of OC. The lounge area outside is my favorite thing about the place. It doesn't get better then sipping drinks with your lover over a nice warm pit with a view like that. The service here is top notch too. I would first like to start off by saying that I wish I could have given this place 5 stars. Everything from the drinks to the food to the view was absolutely amazing. They truly have some gifted bar tenders and an amazing kitchen staff. The ONLY reason this review is 2 stars is because of our server Ryan. From the moment we sat down, he was in a hurry to get us to leave. It was my wife and I celebrating our anniversary and we were having an amazing time. We got our drinks and enjoying the amazing Brussel Sprouts and spinach dip. But every time Ryan came back to "check" on our table, he was upset to see that we weren't there to eat our food as fast as humanly possible so he could turn his table. We wanted to sit, enjoy each other's company and take in the beautiful sunset. Ryan made it difficult to think about anything other than his bad attitude and how he was trying to get us to leave. It wasn't until he came back to our table and told us that "the pressure is on and we have a rush coming in so please hurry" that I decided others needed to be warned about him. Let me also say, it was a Monday. There was no dinner rush. It seemed as if he didn't want to be there at all. I'm not sure if I'll be taking my wife back there but if I do, Ryan will defiantly not be our server. read more

I never really ate their food there but we did have some appetizers and drinks. The appetizers were really yummy, especially their stuffed mushrooms. The drinks were ok. I liked their hot cocoa though. My buddy an I were up there on the coldest night of the winter last year and we got our own fire pit. The view was awesome! Nice view, great location on top of a hill overlooking the OC, but the food was pretty bad. We ordered 1. Citrus Poached Prawns- thawed prawns (about 5) stacked with store bought cocktail sauce with some yuzu flavoring around it. Top it off, this was the best out of the dishes we had here 2) blackened seared ahi - never ever had such bad seared ahi. and I am the greatest lover of seared ahi. Unreal bad. 3) herb chicken with Garlic Puree/Morel Jus - This has got to be one of the worst things i've tasted. Maybe it was my bad that i ordered it. As soon as I tasted the two starters, I knew i was in for trouble and trouble is what came to me on a plate completely filled with brown goo 4) friend ordred Filet Oscar Butter Braised King Crab/Truffle Hollandaise/Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes, which was the best thing on the menu. But really, for $40, I would much rather eat in n out for a whole month. All in all, the stuffy ambience of old WASPy looking couples and the bad food definitely did not work for me. read more

My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary. Everything about the restaurant is very unique, from the drive up the hill to the beautiful view. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was really good! It has a very romantic atmosphere which is perfect for Valentines day, Birthday, or Anniversary. The view overlooks Orange County and if you come during the right hour, you'll be able to see the fireworks in Disneyland. To top that off, there is an outdoor patio with fire pits that you can walk out to and enjoy the beautiful view. I'll probably come back here again when I have money :) read more

this review is only for sat brunch... it was ok but i think it was over-priced...or maybe i expected too much cuz it is orange hill after all. maybe it was the loud kids at the next table...or being sat at the corner...or the empty restaurant...or the non-so-classy layout of the desserts...or having to give my drink orders when i passed by my waiter as i get my food...but the whole experience was not top-notch as i expected. the food was ok but not great. the best part was the sushi/sashimi section. the salmon was ultra fresh and the sushi rice were small and very flavorful. the sushi chef was really nice and even gave me salmon slices, sahimi style. def highlight of the meal. desserts were ok but the layout was...well, let's just say todai's layout is better. i prob won't go back...well not if I have to pay, anyways...hehe read more

My review of Orange Hill is for the Sunday brunch. The presentation and variety of the food was solid. The quality was okay and tasted a bit on the bland side. For instance, the crab legs (though it was helpful they were cut in halves) were a bit on the small size (not king crab). The sushi selection featured Ahi/ Yellowfin, but the other rolls were very simple. They also had meats, salads and breakfast entrees to choose from. The dessert section also featured a chocolate fountain for dipping items. If I were to go here again, I would mainly go for the spectacular scenery. The service was also solid. For the price, you could probably get a better BUFFET elsewhere. However, for an overall experience, this was a good place to visit. read more

the food was not good. i had a filet mignon, i felt like it was meat equivalent to black angus. the food just was not worth the high price. you pay for the view and the ambiance... though our service was very very good. here's why. i will always remember our server jesus. he was very very kind. i had been crying the whole night through... and he tried to cheer me up saying... we'll just say its your birthday and you can get the free dessert! irony was... it was my birthday... and the dessert didn't cheer me up cause it was not very good. tip: if you don't have money and you're trying to impress a girl go somewhere else that is worth it... and don't stress about how expensive it is... won't matter how much ambience there is... it ruins the night. read more
