We had such an amazing experience last year for Thanksgiving that we decided we would make it a tradition every year. This year was a completely different experience. When we were seated, it took over 30 minutes for us to get water and our drinks we ordered. Our reservation was at 12:30pm and many tables had cleared out after we were seated. This year they offered a hot version of the seafood course for $50 which we ordered. That, was amazing. The shareables course was also delicious. A party of 6 (3 adults and three children) sat down when both of those courses were done and the waitress was extremely attentive to them while we sat. They received water and their drinks right away as well as their shareables and seafood courses. We were finally asked for our entree choices (the only part of the meal you have to make a choice) and those came out quickly. We both ordered the turkey meal. Our table was cleaned off before the entrees came and my mom's napkin was taken. A hostess was walking by and my mom asked for a replacement napkin. Kara, I am told was her name was extremely rude. She said, "you need to ask your server I am seating guests". The way she said it and her extreme attitude was the issue. Facial expression included. It's like we asked her to work all day with no pay. She could have simply said something along the lines of I'm seating these guests but I'll let your server know, but her attitude was horrible. To be clear, in case I was given the wrong name (because they all were thin dark haired gals with black dresses) she was the one with the lightest hair and it was up with flowers in it. We were so floored as to why she felt the need to be so rude. The dessert course was served pretty quickly as well. I will say the party of 6 were finished just before us and they were sat about an hour plus after us. That was the experience we had last year, it was efficient with nice staff. This year as I said was just not the same but it seemed it was just us. Perhaps the waitress didn't want our table as we were originally being sat outside and asked for an inside table as it was 80 degrees out but if that was the case, they should have told us there was no inside seating. There were four tables around us that were empty in her section. We are debating if we will try again next year or go somewhere else. The food is amazing but when everything else around it isn't, it really affects the entire experience. Lastly, we both used the women's restroom while there within the two hour period and it was filthy. The trash bin and basket were overflowing and there was napkins all over the entire restroom floor. For such a nice restaurant and the price for the meal, the experience was just way below expectations this year. I suggest Kara is provided some training on customer service or perhaps not work on a holiday where it's busy. read more

Orange Hill Restaurant has a gorgeous view of the city. I think that is what stands out the most from this place, if you're lucky enough to sit outside and appreciate the view. Be prepared to pay $9 for valet as that is the only option. That will be $9.50 if you're using a card for payment since there is a $0.50 processing fee. I found the service to be subpar. The host was cold when we checked in. She didn't look up from the tablet when checking us in. It was our first time visiting and the waiter didn't give us any info on the menu as I've had with other restaurants. I did overhear another waiter give his party an overview of some food options and even some information on cocktails. My husband was also disappointed because we were seated inside and when he made the reservation, he requested outdoor seating. We still had a nice view from inside, but he really wanted to appreciate the view from the outdoor seating. We ordered some cocktails to start. I thought the strawberry dreamin' was too sweet and it doesn't feel like there's much alcohol in there. My husband ordered the mariachi. The presentation was beautiful and you get about one and a half drinks worth. You get a burst of fruit flavor that's followed up with a smokey kick from the mezcal. We thought it was excellent. They bring you complimentary cornbread glazed with honey, and some salt and butter on the side. This was a good starter that didn't make us feel overly full. We ordered the smash burger and fries with a side of Mac and cheese. The smash burger was good and quite filling. We ended up taking most of the mac and cheese to go--it's not something I would recommend. For dessert we ordered the cafe con leche. This was delicious! It was a hot cake filled with Dulce de leche (I think), served with cookies and cream ice cream. If you're celebrating something special, they do not comp the dessert. Came here for a birthday celebration and was overall disappointed. This place is widely recommended in the community for celebrations but the food is just mediocre. The menu is American and Italian influences. To start off, you get cornbread and butter. The cornbread has a southern vibe but it is incredibly dry even with the butter smeared on. I ordered the squid ink bucatina which was $40. It came with a good amount of lobster and shrimp however the sauce was not very good at all. We also got a $16 Caesar salad which was just okay. My husband ordered the $25 burger and a side of Mac and cheese. The burger was not bad. Some pieces were pretty charred and hard. The mac and cheese was probably the best thing we ate. Overall the pictures of the food on their online menu looked way better than what everyone was actually served. The ambience is probably the reason this place is widely recommended. It sits on top of the hill and you get a view of the city and the surrounding neighborhood homes. It is nice to view during the sunset. They require valet parking for $9. The lot is huge but they only let you do valet. There is no other option which is silly in Orange County of all places. This is not even fine dining so I am really confused why they feel the valet is necessary. They also charge a fee if you want to pay the valet with card so bring cash. They have an odd open kitchen layout where the stairs go up towards the kitchen and on one side you can go to exit on the outdoor patio to look at the view, but the other side leads you in front of the kitchen. You can accidentally walk there searching for the exit or bathroom because there is no sign at all explaining this. Staff will yell at you if you make that mistake. Overall an unpleasant experience. Overall, if you are fine with the valet charges and want to enjoy a view then you should go here but I do not recommend this place for food. It is masquerading as a fancy restaurant when all of their food is generic, subpar, and expensive. read more

I was surprised with a birthday dinner at Orange Hill Restaurant and it absolutely lived up to the hype I had built up in my head over the years. From the moment we arrived, the valet team was so kind and welcoming, which immediately set the tone for the night. Our waiter, Anthony, truly made the experience special. I had gone in completely set on what I thought I wanted, but after talking with him and trusting his recommendations, I ended up trying a few different things and I'm so glad I did. The coconut shrimp were incredible, but that marmalade? There are honestly no words for how good it was. It completely stole the show. We also ordered the charcuterie and cheese plate, and I loved that they featured cheeses from The Cheese Guys in Beverly Hills. It was my first time trying honeycomb and it was such a perfect addition to the board. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and I was so happy it was still available when we ordered. Beyond the food, the pacing of the meal was perfect, our wine glasses were never empty, and Anthony was attentive, warm, and genuinely made my birthday dinner feel special. I have attended here twice for corporate events. This place is beautiful, sits on top of a hill so you have an amazing view. The place seems very large with multiple rooms and patio seating. Very limited parking so only valet parking is offered. Environment wise, the place is beautiful. Food wise, not so great. Last year, our steak was very dry and over cooked , even sauced up. This year, the steak was cooked medium rare, and a tasted a little better but still not great. Both years, the steaks look like a chunk of meat. Not appealing at all. The chicken was actually nicely cooked and moist. The veggies and potatoes needed salt, very bland. Also, the salads were very very dry. We asked for more dressing and they gave us a very small side cup that wasnt enough. A lot of salads were wasted. The food makes me never want to come back willingly on my own. Hard to say with service since it was a party. They didn't seem like they wanted to be there. Our plates were sitting on our table for awhile. Took away our champagne glasses when we havent drank it. The cake just sat on the side and people just grabbed them cuz we weren't being served. Didn't even have spoons for us to eat them with. This place would be ideal if food was better. read more

Great location and ambiance! Went there for drinks and dessert celebrating some graduations. 8:30 reservation, did have to wait about 15 minutes before getting seated. The staff were attentive and kind. We had some allergies in the party we let the staff know of prior so they remade the three dessert towers we ordered as there was some cross contamination. How did I get so lucky with such a beautiful and smart group of girlfriends?! I have no clue, but I'm so happy I did. I spent a few hours celebrating my BFF who just got her MASTERS degree and Orange Hill was the perfect backdrop for those festivities! Arrived for our 6pm reservation a little early and met the crew at the bar. The bar was the best pre-game ever! We all enjoyed each other before heading to our meal and I think many others had the same idea cause it was a little packed in there. There, I opted for the Paid Vacation. A passionfruit cocktail that was perfect to start out the night. It was a beautiful yellow color and came in the most interesting glass. They topped it with a sichuan bud in it so my tongue tingled when I bit into it. So cool! Ok so the food! Everything was great! But I could jut be biased based on the great company. We had a few bottles of Justin wine for the table - excellent. Bread and butter was warm, delicious and plated wonderfully Brussel sprouts were so so good! The wild mushroom pasta papperdalle and the prime rib (our entree) was to die for! Can't forget the awesome service we had as well. Our server was great! Of course the view was magical! Went to Orange Hill for a birthday dinner and honestly left pretty disappointed. My friend's husband made reservations for 6:30, but when we arrived we were told the parking lot was full and had to park down the street at the college and take a shuttle back up to the restaurant. By the time we finally got inside, it was already after 6:40, and we still weren't seated for another 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the service continued to be slow throughout the night. I ordered the $58 ribeye steak but was served a New York steak instead. At first glance maybe some people wouldn't notice, but after a few bites the difference between a ribeye and a New York is obvious. Overall, I think Orange Hill is pretty overrated. The view is beautiful, and honestly that's probably the main reason to go. For the price and overall dining experience, I'd much rather spend my money at Brea Chop House. read more

A perfect place for a special occasion. We called the week before and talked to a hostess about this was a special dinner for my wife's 70th birthday. Just the two of us. But we really really wanted to sit next to the window to watch the sunset. They made it happen! We were able to watch the sunset over Catalina Island . The food matched the view. They did my wife's fillet just right, and I got the bone in ribeye, which was also just right and ended up taking half of that home. We went ahead and ordered two desserts before we found out they were giving us complimentary desserts because of the birthday, so we had a lot more to take home. Service was great all around. We celebrated my bf birthday here. We got seated outside patio in the late afternoon, sun was out but not too hot. Luckily they had umbrellas to keep us shaded. We ordered drinks at the bar while we waited for our seats. I got the If you like Ube Coladas - it tasted more like pineapple too me but there's a taste of Ube. It tasted good though didn't taste the alcohol so could be dangerous lol. My bf ordered a nonalcoholic drink called Freckles. He really enjoyed it. For appetizers we got the caviar frites and crab cake. Crab cake was delicious and caviar frites was okay. The frites was just like fries with little some caviar spread out and little sauce. My bf even asked for a side of ketchup since the topping was so little lol. I get it is caviar but maybe put less fries or more sauce or something. They gave us complimentary corn bread. I wasn't a big fan, didn't really taste like corn bread to me. But it was free so we ate it especially since we were hungry and it was the first thing that came out. For entrees, my bf ordered the Miso Marinated Chilean Sea Bass. The fish was a little dry and the rice was sweet. He said it was an interesting combo. I ordered the roasted prime rib - medium. I think it was a little over medium however I didn't mind I'm not a fan of too pink/red meat. The prime rib had lots of flavor, I enjoyed it but I just couldn't finish it all. Promising start to dinner, with fresh corn bread / appetizers coming out quickly. But then entrees took exactly 1 whole hour to come out. Ordered at 4:18 and food came out at 5:18. We came in before it started to get too busy. Seems like the long wait is due to kitchen making several tables worth of orders at once. So minus one star for that. We have been dining here for our anniversary for the last couple of years, and this year was the first time we experienced quite an unfortunate parking situation. Long story short, as we approached the restaurant we noticed a bunch of cars backed up onto the Main Street (Chapman) both from those who turn right and left to enter the street that goes up the hill. Quite frankly, it was beyond disastrous--you had cars blocking the road, someone who actually had the gall to get out to their car that was turning left as I was trying to turn right and stand in front of my car to block my way, and ultimately, as we proceeded about 200 feet up the hill stopped us to say the parking lot is closed and that we could drive about 2 miles to their offsite parking location where a shuttle would take us to/from the restaurant. We then had to turn our car around and head over to the offsite parking lot. Anyway, we get to the parking lot, a shuttle does promptly take us to the restaurant again, but we get stuck in the same traffic at the street light because cars are still entering and exiting the turn-in and Chapman. All in all, from when we first got stuck in traffic to actually getting to the hostess was about 40 minutes. From an efficiency perspective, there are several ways they could work to mitigate this issue: 1) preemptively call those who had a reservation like us and warn us 2) Station the valet folks at the base of the street to turn people away and direct them to the offsite lot BEFORE we turn in and get stuck in a loop and waste time, only to turn around. 3) Provide priority to the shuttles to turn in/out and go up the hill--we are spending time getting stuck in the same entry traffic as everyone else. All of that said, the service recovery was excellent--without asking, we did have a few items comped off our bill, equal to about 20%, which I do think is adequate for the pain of our experience (we didn't say anything to anyone about this). That said, this does give us pause about our future desire to come back, because the handling of the traffic flow is quite a disaster. As usual, our meal was great, although the lobster tail did not taste as fresh as it usually does. Drinks are excellent as always. What's the point of a reservation if I'm still waiting and others are sat before me? The girls working as the hostess definitely give stuck up vibes. Extremely unfriendly! They barely looked up from their iPad to talk to you. No greeting, not even a subtle hello. I was pretty surprised considering how "fine dining" or upscale this place is suppose to be... you'd think the employees would act the part. I was seated on the patio and still waited... I kid you not, another 10-15 minutes for a server to appear. It was NOT busy at all. It was a very quiet Sunday here! What's with the lag? Anyways we ordered, got our food and whatever. I didn't realize-- which is my own mistake-- that it was a brunch only menu on Sunday. That def killed it for me. I wasn't expecting brunch items at 245pm... either way I ordered the hangover hash. The hangover hash was just okay. I wasn't the biggest fan with the sauce or flavor of the meat. The only good thing is that the short rib was actually tender. They give a heaping bed of potatoes for sure. Maybe the hangover part is you filling up with carbs. As an appetizer I ordered the calamari which I will admit is pretty good. One of my top calamari spots for sure. It's battered and fried perfectly and it's got a nice kick to it. The sauce accompanying it is also just, mwah, chefs kisses. Now the really bad downside about siting on the patio is that there's BUGS. Everywhere. There's tiny little black ones that'll be crawling on your arms or legs without you even realizing. Then there's a bigger kind of fly that is very much attracted to sugar so there was a fly that fell into my father's rosé. I never saw the bill to know whether or not they charged him a second glass for that. I'd hope not. But bring your little starters to help seat away all the bugs and flies. Service was still underperforming while we waited long periods of time to be checked in on. There was also random silverware around other tables; which really confused me because how do you clean a table and not check the floor?? It felt really sloppy, the service was horrid, neglectful dare I say. The food was average. None of us were impressed. The filet mignon my dad ordered was overcooked. The only good thing was the calamari. I'd be weary about coming here. I even listed it was a birthday celebration & they didn't do anything for it. We arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation but ended up waiting around 45 minutes to be seated. We threw the 40th birthday party for my wife at Orange Hill, and I honestly can't say enough good things about the team that helped us pull it off. The night went so smoothly, and a huge part of that was thanks to the people working behind the scenes. Edgar, our captain, was incredible: calm, organized, and on top of everything. Milton, Taylor, Krystal, and Juan were all so friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Our guests kept mentioning how great the service was. The bartenders, Tony and Juan, were fast, fun, and kept everyone happy at the bar. I also want to give a special shout-out to Cindy and Lindsay, the catering directors. They helped us plan the whole event from beginning to end and made the process much easier than I expected. Every question and every detail was handled with care. Between the food, the view, and the amazing staff, the night turned out better than we imagined. My son wanted a steak for his 18th Birthday, so we decided to bring him to Orange Hill. I've been here before for a banquet and wanted to try dinner. The location is gorgeous! It up in Orange Hills overlooking all of OC. It's valet parking only but not complimentary which is the reason for knocking off a star. It's $10 a car and still ask you to tip when you pay, in my opinion, it should be complementary since you're tipping. There was plenty of parking but it was a Monday. They have beautiful outdoor landscape with a koi pond, It's a very busy restaurant, so make sure you make a reservation. The hostess is are very nice, but even though I had a reservation, I still had to wait About 15 minutes. Which was fine with us. I made the reservation at 4:45. Just in time for sunset, so we went out there and enjoyed the views and took pictures while we waited. Our server Shannon was very attentive, and so nice and brought my son out a birthday brownie. The food, worth every penny! I ordered a salmon, and it was one of the best I've ever had and the mashed potatoes were delicious. My son ordered the fillet mignon with the baked potato, which was huge. Cooked medium rare and devoured. My other kids ordered the half of chicken, which was very flavorful and the double smashed burger, which was also a good portion and very delicious . The one in a melon was a good drink. Orange Hill is living off its reputation which has been lost long ago. The location and view are unparalleled especially from the patio. The restaurant is well appointed. There are pleasant staff members who are offset by arrogant, oblivious ones. How would you like to try to enjoy your brunch while staff is moving propane tanks, at least twelve (12) right next to your table? The food quality is not consistent with the prices, high prices not met by the pretense of haut cuisine. Charging for the parking is just gouging! The sea bass was smooth and buttery and was perfect. Love the broccolini it came with. Also tried the squid ink bucatini. It was delicious as well. Loved the shrimp. A Magical Evening at Orange Hill Orange Hill has officially become one of my favorite spots in OC. The views are breathtaking, the ambiance is romantic, and the service was so attentive -- every detail was thoughtfully handled. The food was a feast! My first visit was last night. Frankly I think this restaurant is overrated. The restaurant building looks like an alteration from a very old resident. We were seated outdoor patio area with great views but it was afternoon with full sun, we were toasted. Artificial stone table and plastic chairs made me feel that we were sitting at someone's back yard. The food was okay with some room to improve. We like the service. Almost didnt make it this year because of the run around on making reservations. Thanks to Chris the new manager was a big help. Rolled out the red carpet n Adam our waiter was awesome n amazing. He literally took care of us til the time we left. He kept checking on us n suggesting wines n food. His recommendations were spot on n perfect. He needs a raise.
