Matcha and coffee shop in sf with their on matcha and coffee. Their default is no sugar in drinks but they will offer agave or vanilla as their sweetener. Small store with few seatings inside and outside. Can see them whisk and make the drinks at the counter. Came late in the day and most of their matcha cream were out. They only had the strawberry matcha left. The drink looked aesthetic topped with matcha powder and dehydrated strawberries. The foam was light and soft. Tasty strawberry flavor. The matcha was solid and I liked the profile of it. Creamy and slight nuttiness to it. Would come back to try their other flavors.
Absolutely unacceptable customer service. We waited over 30 minutes for our order. When my daughter politely asked about it, she was not given any helpful response. I eventually went inside to ask why customers who had arrived after us were receiving their orders before us. Instead of receiving an explanation or an apology, I was met with an extremely unpleasant attitude from Britney. She argued with me and even laughed sarcastically while handing me my order. That behavior was completely disrespectful and unprofessional. I understand that places can get busy, but being busy is never an excuse to treat paying customers this way. If an order has been delayed or forgotten, customers should at least be informed and treated with basic courtesy. What made this experience even more frustrating was that the mistake was not acknowledged or taken responsibility for. A simple apology and explanation would have gone a long way. Management and the owner should seriously address how customers are being treated. Employees represent the business, and customers deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect. Very disappointing experience. If this type of behavior is being allowed, I genuinely feel sorry for other customers who may experience the same treatment. Do better!!!!
Stumbled across this cute spot while walking and was intrigued by the crowd but the drinks were pretty disappointing. We got a hojicha latte and banana latte. Both were not good. The hojicha was unsweetened by default but I had the choice to add either agave or vanilla. Seemed weird to me that those were the only options but I chose agave since it was more neutral. Unfortunately the agave flavor did not blend well with the drink and the hojicha was quite grainy without much toasted tea depth. A simple syrup or even honey would have been a better choice. It felt like this place was trying hard to be authentic by emphasizing how their drinks came unsweetened but missing the mark in terms of quality. Also the banana latte tasted heavily of artificial flavoring like banana laffy taffy. I would not recommend it at all.
I was in SF shopping around and I stumbled upon this place. Very small matcha shop. I went on a Saturday and it was packed. I ordered the matcha and it was quite good. One of the better matcha's I've had in SF quite frankly. Will definitely be back when I'm around the area. The lines were long but they were able to process and drink in a timely manner and the services was good, very straightforward. Overall I give this matcha spot a solid 4/5 review. To my SF folks please get them a try!
Cute and modern little joint, I loved the moon art fixture on the wall. There's a tiny bench inside so you can wait for your order, but all of the seating is mostly outside and there's a tiny plant on each table. I ordered the Matcha Strawberry Nimbus and was a bit disappointed. I'd like to think of myself as a matcha connoisseur, but this one missed the mark. It just tasted like water with matcha powder and did not have the coffee consistency I was hoping for considering it looks like the same exact one from Q Specialty Coffee. I personally prefer Q. But maybe I just need to try one of their other coffees, because my coworker said it wasn't too bad. I'll give it another shot next time.

I've tried the hojicha with strawberry cream, matcha with yuzu cream, and matcha with strawberry cream. All of them are super tasty and always keeps me coming back! I feel like places only have certain cream tops or they don't allow all the different combos. There's definitely endless possibilities here. They also have a stamp card as well so I always bring my coworkers here too!

The drink has a fun flair: it's cute to look at and the texture is different from the generalized matcha lattes. Each of the drinks come with a foam and this foam is thickly whipped, so on the first sip, sometimes I only get the foam. There are also different foams to choose from; I tried the strawberry and the matcha foam and they taste delicious. I also tried the yuzu foam, but I felt this was puckering sour. I have yet to try their coffees or the combination with the foam and coconut water, so that will be my next time menu decision.

Unlike most spots, Origin Lab Coffee & Matcha has 0% sweetness as its default, which allows the coffee, hojicha, matcha, and fruit flavors to shine through. Agave, honey, and vanilla syrup are available for no upcharge. It was quite packed inside and there was a line forming outside. A staff member passed out menus to customers waiting in line. Order w/the cashier and wait for your name to be called. My order: Yuzu Air Matcha Cloud w/Whole Milk, Light Ice, Vanilla Syrup: $8.00 + tax +Hand-whisked to order, the matcha was smooth and earthy w/no graininess at the bottom. +Yuzu Air Matcha Cloud was light, fluffy, and not greasy at all! It was packed w/matcha & yuzu flavor, adding a refreshing tartness to the lightly sweetened vanilla matcha. +Cup & straw were durable -No option for no ice: I requested Light Ice, and my cup was almost 50% ice -Small for the price Side notes: 1.) Self-serve napkins, spoons, straws, and water cups 2.) Restroom available for customers 3.) Limited indoor & outdoor seating 4.) Walking distance from Montgomery Station *Verdict: Creative & tasty but pricey matcha drinks. With so many matcha places in the area, they're definitely one of the most expensive ones, especially since their cups are so small and there's so much ice.
Went here on two different days! First time on Fourth of July, when it was packed and busy. Baristas and everyone working that day was very professional and patient with each order. The barista also gave me suggestions for my sweetener, which ended up pairing up well with my midnight mocha cloud. On our second visit, we got two kinds of matcha, which tasted fantastic. Velvet matcha cloud was foamy and umami and absolutely loved the texture. We will definitely be back when we are in SF again!!
We came here on a sunny Sunday afternoon after going to an event at the Ferry Building and needed a pick-me-up. This place was on my list of matchas to try so we decided to walk there and give it a try. For being in the financial district on the weekend, I was surprised to see that they were quite busy. The line moved at a decent pace and the staff were friendly. The wait for our drinks were less than 10 minutes. We sat outside because inside was cramped, loud, and very warm. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of my drink, the velvet matcha cloud. The matcha taste was not good. It took a lot for me to finish it. My husband got the spark matcha cloud. He said it was okay (3/5). Overall, this visit was disappointing.
Great matcha shop! A wonderful variety of drinks and flavors. Service is quick and the staff is very friendly. I LOVE the classic velvet matcha with foam (extra EXTRA foam!) considering this is a small location, I was happy to have a seat and enjoy my yummy matcha! Plenty of seats outside. I'll be back.

Origin Lab Coffee & Matcha is focusing on high quality coffee and ceremonial grade matcha. The menu is focusing on Matcha cloud and Strawberry cloud, with a huge different selection. Matcha Strawberry Nimbus $7.75 I got the matcha strawberry nimbus with matcha whole milk latte topped with a smooth strawberry cloud. Strawberry Citrus Nimbus $7.5 Friend got the strawberry citrus nimbus made with orange juice layered with a silky strawberry cloud, finished with dried strawberry and a tried orange peel.
Wow. Hands down the highest quality matcha I've ever had in SF. Truly on par with some of the best matcha I've had in Asia. My go-to order is a hot matcha latte with soy milk (unsweetened by default). The rich matcha pairs perfectly with their creamy/smooth soy milk. Service - nice and friendly workers, with an average wait time of 10-15 minutes. Sadly, they don't have an option to order ahead online! Interior - ample seating for a small coffee shop! Inside, there are 3 small tables and 5-6 single seats lined against one side of the wall. There are a few small tables outside as well. To the owners - please never take soy off the menu! Almond/oat/coconut just doesn't hit the same for soy milk lovers like me!

I didn't know Ibrahim was the owner as he was so approachable and humble, he gave the best service and initiates interactions with each customer as if they r his friends/family. This coffee shop is on the corner of Sutter St. and i didnt know how much much foot traffic was in the area as a steady stream of people always came in. The shop has a few seats inside and outside and they have wifi so i got to work after my dentist appt and enjoy a hot matcha with oatmilk and a little agave. I appreciated they are open until 6pm as most matcha cafes closed earlier. The service was the best and i enjoyed my hot matcha, quite strong as well. Stopped by the new matcha spot in my neighborhood since there was no line. Was greeted warmly and ordered the cloud. There must have been a line before I got there because it took close to 15/16 minutes for me to get my drink. The matcha was pretty good. But the "cloud" took up most of the room in my cup. And they didn't have spoons to mix it together. The drink was gone within a couple of blocks. Maybe I'll try something else next time I walk by and there's no line. read more
I was craving matcha and found this cafe through TikTok and I'm so glad I did! It seems fairly new, but it's already doing very well, with a line out the door when I visited. The menu is simple without being overwhelming, and the space feels both homey and modern. It's bright, welcoming, and a great place to relax. Ibrahim, the owner, greeted us warmly and handed us a menu right away, which made for a great first impression. I ordered the matcha with the matcha cloud, and it was absolutely delicious. The matcha was sweet and flavorful, while the slightly bitter cloud provided the perfect balance. As someone who was seriously craving matcha that day, it completely hit the spot. I'll definitely be back, hopefully as soon as tomorrow to try the banana coffee! read more

I really enjoyed the matcha here - it was super creamy and they stir it live! Please NOTE that the matcha comes unsweetened (unlike every other spot in SF) and you have to add sweetener if you want it. I usually prefer a strong matcha and this place had the perfect concentration for me (no cup of milk here) I popped in on a Saturday around 1 pm and maybe waited ~10 minutes to get my drink so not bad at all. I was disappointed by this matcha. I'm not used to places where it comes unsweetened and then you pay extra for sweetener. This place is new and it can get busy, so expect to wait! There are a few tables and chairs inside and a few outside as well. They have free wifi and some outlets. It's very clean and cute inside but minimalist. Service was wonderful. I came here and accidentally ordered the wrong drinks. I ordered the Hojicha Strawberry Nimbus instead of the Matcha Strawberry Nimbus. Staff were so friendly and offered to make me the drinks I originally wanted. The customer service is top tier and are willing to explain the difference between drinks for those who are first timers. The place itself is pretty small and can get pretty crowded, but it's definitely worth the wait. The matcha strawberry nimbus was amazing! Matcha flavor was strong and smooth. The strawberry was the right amount of sweetness and left you wanting more. The hojicha had more of an earthy/tea flavor. read more

A totally hip, cozy new café just a short walk from Union Square (and only an 8-min walk from 707 Sutter!) I came specifically to try their "Velvet Matcha Cloud," and it did not disappoint. The drink was super smooth and creamy with a velvety matcha foam top--perfectly balanced with zero harsh bitterness. Absolutely loved the matcha powder finish on top. Just a heads-up: Be prepared for a short wait as they take the time to hand-whisk their matcha to ensure there are no clumps. Looking for best matcha spots in San Fran and decided to take a stroll to Organic Lab. The coffee shop is small inside and has a minimalist aesthetic with white and green color scheme m. The green also is noted with the plants. Although the space is small, the menu is robust with multiple matcha options that aren't overwhelming and select baked goods and protein snack bars I ordered the classic matcha with coconut milk , hot. After one sip, fireworks in my mouth commenced. Smooth with the classic earthy taste that's mild. Flavorful and had me wanting more after the 1st one. The shop feel's independently owned and the customer service was welcoming & professional. I can't wait to go back to get a couple more matchas before leaving San Fran. Highly recommend. read more

Their matcha unfortunately does not pass the taste test for me. I got a matcha latte with oatmilk for $9 and I really wanted to enjoy the drink, but it only tasted like oat milk. I do tend to prefer my matcha drinks strong. I don't see myself returning to this place. I were to, I would get a coffee, not a matcha. read more
I have been so disappointed with the trend of new matcha spots in SF that look promising but their drinks turn out to be overly sweet and you can't taste the matcha at all. Thankfully Origin bucks that trend and is a great addition to this area - the staff are also friendly and the matcha is thankfully still in single digits in terms of pricing! read more

Wanted to grab some matcha while in Union Square and this place had a lot of intriguing options so we decided to check it out. They had some unique drinks and while waiting in line, saw that the employees were working hard crafting each drink. They were whisking each matcha one by one and making sure each drink had the right portions. Drinks were typically priced for specialty drinks (and area) these days for about $7-8 +$1-2 for add ons. We got the Citrus wave matcha cloud and the Strawberry matcha cloud drinks and both were great! We wanted to try the Yuzu air matcha cloud but it was sold out sadly- maybe next time. All drinks come unsweetened unless modified but I like that the drinks already had a natural light sweetness to them without the add ons. It was pretty small inside and super busy but the drinks were made pretty quickly so you can grab and go. There are a couple seats inside and outside as well if you want to sit and chat as well! They also had stamp cards but it was 1 stamp per visit instead of 1 stamp per drink which I felt didn't make sense if you came and ordered 10 drinks at once vs someone coming and ordering 1 drink but both getting 1 stamp? The matcha here is not pulling punches. I saw how much matcha powder they add to the latte and it's no joke! I love that the lattes come unsweetened by default, and they make sure to remind you of that at the point of sale and ask if you want to add any sweetness - perfect execution. Mediocre matcha with AWFUL customer service. I was told our drinks would take 10 minutes, but waited 30 just to find out they had been forgotten! We politely asked about our order twice, and Britany, the barista, was unbelievably rude, dismissive, and disrespectful. Not just to me but other customers as well. I got the strawberry matcha as it was recommended by the cashier. Their menu says whole milk latte but I asked and they said they do alternative milks which is great because I'm slightly lactose intolerant! However when I picked up the drink there were 2 drinks sitting there that look the same and the person didn't really know which was which and seemed like she just guessed? So a bit worried but I drank it anyway. Overall it was okay, but I didn't think the matcha was too stand out ish compared to many of the matcha places in south bay. I would possibly come again for interesting foam flavors. read more

I like how petite the shop is and the variety they have. I got the hojicha strawberry & my partner got the strawberry matcha. We were waiting for some time which the owner gave us 10% discount for waiting. Which was super nice! The drinks were well prepared. For the strawberry matcha very good and flavorful. For the hojicha it was a tad watered down, so you didn't really get the full taste of hojicha. Other than that great price & great staff too! read more

The Matcha taste very earthy and the service is running slow. I walked in during lunch time. It's pretty slow, waited about 15-20 mins for my drink to be ready. There's sitting inside and outside with tables. Good to bring your laptop to work while wait for your drink. read more

We were walking down Sutter Street heading towards Onigilly on Kearney Street when we happened on a line of customers going into Origin Lab and decided to check out what they had to offer. We decided on some matcha drinks. If you like rich matcha that avoids being overly sweet this is the place for you. The staff does a good job of getting the orders made so don't be put off by the line. There are a few tables out front if you want to enjoy your drink immediately and they also have to go lids as well so you can continue on your way. The drinks were so clean and refreshing, I highly recommend this place if matcha is your thing. read more

The inside is pretty small and there was only three people working. So the wait time took longer than expected especially because lots of people came to try the new spot. The matcha was ok, they recommended the sweetness level and the matcha did not taste sweet. The strawberry cloud part tastes like strawberry whipped cream. read more

Looking at what's inside Origin Lab Coffee & Matcha, this vibrant café was more of a junior version of Q Specialty Coffee. Same cream cloud drinks, same coffee bean sniff bottle, and the same matcha mess! 8-) And of course, I'm seeing a drawn together baristas working together in one big happy family. Their cultural background songs kept the vibes of their family run café pumping! My first purchase: iced coconut water with matcha cream cloud. I might rename my first drink as Matcha Colada. Though I didn't finish the whole thing since the ice cubes blocked my sipping path, it's still a pleasant experience. I have yet to revisit Origin Lab Coffee & Matcha to try other drinks, there might be other places of interest I'm willing to share later on. read more
LOVE the concept. In a day when matcha has become so popular and every cafe including it on their menu as a money grab, it's really great to see a cafe do matcha lattes justice. Think of the good ol times when a matcha latte was strong, creamy and bright green. They hand whisk their matchas and do not skimp on the flavor since they do not use a sweetener. The thickness is perfect and does not leave you reaching for the sugar to cut it. I got the velvet matcha latte and will definitely return. I highly recommend before they become trendy or mainstream with a line out the door. Origin does not do all the theatrics that you see at all the other cafes, they rely heavily on their product, some genuine authenticity the city is missing right about now. Interior is great for sitting and chatting, with some outdoor benches to people watch. Staff is so friendly, came out from behind the bar to actually check on us and thank us for coming in. Honestly my wife and I had high hopes for this place because the drinks looked amazing. However they did not taste as good as they look. The drinks are decent but I've definitely had better drinks at other places. I am glad to have given this place a try and honestly in the middle of FiDi they get some pretty good traffic. You can choose to sit inside, outside, or take it to go and stroll around downtown. The staff is super friendly and engaging and the overall vibes are great. read more
