Magoo's is easily one of the best pizza places I have ever been to. The staff is always really friendly and accommodating, the ingredients are really fresh, and the crust is AMAZING. It's like a cross between thin and regular crust: delightfully crunchy without being dry, moist without being too bready. It goes so, so well with the generous toppings and is incredibly satisfying. The seasoning is perfect, the pizza isn't dripping with oil, and the cheese actually melts and stretches like it does in pizza commercials. I also love their fries and highly recommend getting a bag whenever you go. You might be skeptical because getting fries at a pizza place might feel like getting a salad at a pasta restaurant, but these fries so good, they're better than any fries you can get at a burger place. You get a big, hot bag of crunchy crinkle fries and you can add garlic or cheese to them. I got regular fries just to try them out and they were amazing, so I'm definitely going to try them with cheese next time. Magoo's is a place you have to go to if you like delicious pizza. This is the BEST sandwich shop on the island. Born an raised in this island but everytime i visit from the mainland in my two weeks stay I enjoy their hot ham and mushroom sandwich at least 5 to 6 times. The service is always great but Chris and Jerry are the best. They give you the true Ohana spirit of the island. They also have live music sometimes of traditional ukulele Hawaiian music. Went here a couple of weeks ago for take out. My kids wanted a cheese pizza and it was a bit hard for me to cough up $30 plus for just bread and cheese. But i did it for the kids. Of course they absolutely loved it so i had to try it for myself. And i am glad i did. It was delicious. Now $30 for a cheese pizza isnt my idea of cheap so i will opt to get a meat or supreme next time. But it was delicious and i would pay it again. So excited but disappointed in the quality of the crust and taste of the pizza. Grew up in Waikiki in the 80's so went to the store on Kūhiō ave. Magoo's has moved around and last got some at the bus/truck in McCully next to the McDonalds and gas station when it was there. It had lots of toppings and flavor. This time around it had a lot of cheese and not much toppings. Crust was stale and chewy. My brother in law went there this week and well and he had the same disappointment. This is my rating for the past 2 weeks. Last week we ordered a large pizza and chicken dinner. Via email, Magoo's said our order would be ready between a window of 5:30pm-6:00pm. We got no phone call or email to let us know when the order was going to be ready. I decide to go inside at 5:50pm. Our pizza was sitting inside a warmer for 20 mins since I saw them put the pizza box inside. Our chicken dinner was sitting on the table. I go inside and explain to the lady helping me. She apologizes that I did not get a call or email informing us that our order was ready. I leave and take the food to our friend's house less than 5 mins away. The pizza is barely lukewarm. The chicken is mushy since it's sitting inside a take out box for so long. The cole slaw is warm. No one is eating warm cole slaw. Very disappointing and a waste of $50+. Fast forward to yesterday. Once again we order online. We ordered 2 large pizzas and 2 hot sub sandwiches. Via email, they give us a window off 6:00pm-6:30pm. I call Magoo's when they open to make sure they got our order and to remind them to let us know when it's ready since they didn't last time. I decide to go early at 5:50pm to make sure everything went smoothly. The lady who helped me said my pizza was in the over and would be done in 10 minutes. She asked me where I would be waiting and took down my cell number. She said she would call me in 10 mins to let me know the order was done. I go back into my car to wait. 15 minutes pass so I decide to go back inside. There is a lady in front of me who has been waiting for over 1 hour. She was quoted 20-30 minutes. She was about to cancel her order, but the workers said her pizza was 4 minutes from being done. Finally it's my turn. I asked the lady if my pizza was ready. She didn't remember me so I had to remind her. She told me the pizza is ready but my order isn't ready since they were waiting on the subs. I was looking through the window since I was bored while I was waiting when. the lady had originally told me my pizza would be done in 10 minutes. Now, my pizza was sitting in boxes on the counter. I asked the lady why my pizza was sitting outside on a counter getting cold. Based on what I saw, my pizza was sitting around 20 minutes, GETTING COLD. She said my order wasn't ready and their warmers were full. This is ridiculous. I ask to speak to the manager. A lady comes to talk to me after they make me wait around another 5-7 minutes. The manager/owner lady asks me to speak outside. I ask her why we need to go outside. She said so we don't get in anyone's way who was waiting. That is absurd. The same 3-4 people were waiting for a while so it's not like we were going to disturb anyone. I feel she wanted to go outside so the other customers didn't hear my complaint/concern. Anyway, we go outside. I explain to her that last week I got cold food and hot cole slaw. I get barely any response or an apology. Then, I tell her that my pizza was sitting on a counter for 20+ minutes. She touches the pizza box to see just how cold it is. At this point I am just irritated. I now spent another $83+ on cold food. She gives me an half - * * *. apology. She knew the pizza was sitting. She knew the pizza was cold. AT NO POINT DOES SHE OFFER TO MAKE ME 2 NEW HOT PIZZAS. AT NO POINT DOES SHE OFFER TO REFUND THE MONEY I PAID FOR COLD PIZZAS. I tell her that her service is pathetic. And if they don't improve or start showing they care about their customers, then they will go out of business. I have NEVER seen a pizza joint that had such bad service and lacked any sense of accountability. I will NEVER go back here. ROUND TABLE PIZZA IN KAILUA IS SO SUPERIOR TO THIS CRAP HOLE. It's clear that their motive is to generate as much money as they can at the expense of quality. If you don't have space in your warmers, THEN STOP TAKING ORDERS! If you can't handle the demand you: 1. Hire more workers. 2. Train your workers to be more efficient instead of running around like chickens without heads bumping into each other so often. 3. Get a larger space with more ovens to accommodate the demand. It's clear that people are getting upset and frustrated. The place doesn't have as long lines. The wait time is far less than it was 3-4 weeks ago. It seems the buzz and nostalgia is done. And it's sad, since the place had the potential to really do great due to location and being a known brand from the 80's. Instead they lack any accountability. The leadership is either non-existent or lacking any ALOHA SPIRIT. I would rather eat a TOMBSTONE FROZEN PIZZA than their COLD PIZZA. My friends and I WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE AGAIN. They had 2 chances to get it right. Their owner/manager had the opportunity to fix it and choose to do nothing, other than take our hard earned money we made DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. I can't say this is nostalgia for me since I've never had their pizza growing up like most people but due to the buzz that went around for their reopening, I had to try it! Ironically we didn't order the pizza but just the sub and the chicken dinner. The chicken dinner was a nice big portion, but lacking in flavor. The ham and cheese sub looked promising, but extremely heavy on the mustard. Sadly I wouldn't go back for those things but I do want to give the pizza a try. This was our first visit here, and will most likely be our last. Gonna be a long review. Wait time: we called in our order today at 12pm for late lunch. The worker over the phone told us wait time would be about 3-3.5 hours. Already not a great start, but we waited. It really did take 3.5hours. Food was not worth the wait. Service: The staff is friendly, but they definitely need to improve their communication and organize their order-taking. There were at least 5 front of house staff running around but no clear system in place. None seem to be helping the kitchen. Parking: oh dear. They cannot help the parking, not their fault. There's three tight spaces in front. There is a fourth if you count the space intended as a walkway. Good with a family/friend so you can drop them off to avoid the parking mayhem. Food: we order the hot ham sandwich and a combo pizza. First, the hot ham sandwich was delicious! Hot, decent amount of meat and cheese, and flavored nicely. The best thing in this experience. Second, the combo pizza. Good size pizza. HOWEVER, the dough was dense and tough, and the marinara sauce was off(almost like chili flavor). Don't recommend the Pizza. Tried to order over the phone, but when we went to pick-up the order they said they didn't make the pizza as the credit card information was not processed. We paid for the pizza and waited another hour for our order. Went home and it didn't quite meet our expectations of the tangy sauce that I remembered from before. Tried to order with the Grubhub app, but there were no options to add toppings to a cheese pizza. When I tried to instead subtract toppings from one of their special pizzas, it blocked and required me to specify whole or half. Uhh, what? Magoo's opened this location during COVID by the daughter of the original Magoos. It's too far from home so it took an afternoon appointment in town to draw us back for dinner to avoid traffic out of town. Sarah our waitress cheerfully welcomed us, explained our options and took our order. We shared how we moved to the country 50 years ago and finally had the opportunity to try our once-favorite Magoos. We ordered a medium w half pepperoni and half ham w pineapple all over. Yes we're one of those pineapple pizza people . The crust is super thin and crispy. Exactly how we like it. The sauce is their original red. Delicious! What stood out was a sprinkling of dried Italian seasoning giving the pizza an original flavor. We had cokes but beers and wine are available as is salad, wings and a few other dishes. While we waited for our food I noticed how comfortable the restaurant is. The seats are cushioned and spaced gar enough apart as not to bother each other. Two tv sets played a basketball game and Christmas music. An older gentleman was preparing to perform live music. He had a red palaka shirt and Kukui lei (quite Christmasy) and was playing Hawaiian music as we left. (TV sound was off.) The sign says it's happy hour all day. We've been dining at Magoos for many moons! So very happy they're open again and at a convenient location not far from Manoa. Last night we decided to call to get delivery. Very excited that an OG pizza joint is in the neighborhood! Trying the Magoo's Special & Vegetarian pizzas. Their Hot Ham sammie is fabulous with the soft bread & melty cheese. Theyre in the old Kapahulu Poi Shop building next to Go Bananas Kayaks on Winam. Parking is limited so I'd recommend calling ahead of time. Ordered pick-up for an original combo pizza, was ready in 15 minutes. The ladies at the counter were quick with the to-go orders, very friendly and everyone was doing a good job wearing masks. I paid over the phone and they were all set when I arrived, pretty much a hand-off, only asked if I wanted parm and peppers (yes haha of course!). I never have had pizza like this, was recommended from a friend. Thin crust with a little char was good, pizza loaded with cheese (wow) and toppings were nothing short of A+. I don't even like sausage on my pizza and usually pick it off but Magoo's delivered good toppings all the way around! My only qualm was I prefer more of a crust at the end. I don't mind thin under the sauce (and taste was A+) though. Can't wait to heat up leftovers tomorrow, thanks MAGOO! read more

Update: my wife was in the area near the original magoo's pizza and stopped by to let them know about our negative experience. The manager on duty was very attentive and listened to my wife explain our experience. My wife placed an order for some chicken wings and potato salad. The manager was nice enough to throw in a few pieces of chicken and some extra potato salad. He also informed my wife, that if we give them another try in the future, please come and pick up rather than request delivery via 3td party to insure that we get what we order (makes sense). He also asked my wife to inform whomever we speak to, to place our future order, to let them know to check a green folder. If we choose to give magoos another chance, they would give us a complimentary pizza. My wife was very happy and a week or two later, she was craving the original magoos pizza again. She called to place her order and referred to the green book. Well hats off to the original magoos pizza. They made good on their promise. My wife is happy as we like to support local business. I used to work at the Waikiki location in the late 80's. Part timers weren't allowed to make pizzas but I made thousands of chicken dinners and ham and mushroom sandwiches. I placed my order at 6am to make sure I'll get my food as soon as they open. Got a call around 2:30pm saying my food will be ready for pick up between 4:30-5. Online ordering and pick up - 5 Easy ordering, knew exactly what time my food would be ready, they brought the food out to my car. Giant combo pizza - 3 Same nostalgic taste of secret sauce and cheese combo. Crust didn't reach the corners and was way too thick. Still pretty good but not the same pizza I remembered. Ham and mushroom - 1 Bread was about 1/3 smaller than what I remember and wasn't toasted. Barely any mustard mayo and super thin slices of ham. I remember when I made these I put 6 slices of thick square hams on a foil, two handful of mushroom and 1 huge handful of cheese then into the oven next to the bread. Slathered the toasted bread with Mayo mustard then dumped the foil upside down onto the bread. So thick and filled with stuff that we had hard time wrapping it. Not this tiny dry thing I got. She also said that I would get an email to let me know when it was ready. We went on a few errands and arrived at 4:50p, found a temporary parking about a block past and waited in the car. At 5:00 I got an email saying that our order was ready. I pulled up outside, my wife got out and went in and got our order. Got home and thoroughly enjoyed the pizza!
