THE BEST CHILI EVER!! I always crave their chili cheese fries and everytime I get it, pure satisfaction. I usually order the number 2 which comes with a cheeseburger(that comes with chili), fries & a large drink. I always add chili cheese to those fries of course and on my really hungry days I even add another chili cheese fries. This is not the world best burger joint. That being said, there is something about Tommy's burgers: chili spilling, cheese melting everywhere, thick cut tomatoes, and that vinegary twang from the pickles that just makes it a California Classic and keeps me coming back (mostly when I get a very specific cravings for some Tommy's). You wouldn't live long if you went everyday but if you've never gone, you are missing out on a California institution that has fed college students and drunks (and drunk college students..duh) since the 1950's. Tommy's was hyped to me by a couple of friends, and while I enjoyed my meal, it wasn't the experience I was hoping for. The chili made everything soggy and unfortunately the chili tasted like Hormel's. I know I'm in the minority for feeling this way about this place, and I'd be willing to go back there and try them again, but I was underwhelmed. Tommy's is just average in my view. The chili burgers are delicious but the chili itself is mediocre, and the amount of chili is inconsistent. Sometimes your burger is exploding at the gills, while other times there is almost none. It can take a long time to get your order and it's not always worth the wait. Every now and then me n hubby get a craving for Tommy's chili burgers. Is it the best chili out there, no but the whole burger itself with those fat fries is an all time favorite. And when you pair that with a few jalapeños and lots of ketchup, your in fast food heaven. This location is close to home and we like to have lunch out on the patio, they are never too crowded so you can actually relax and enjoy the breeze since their kinda close to the shores. Haven't been to a Tommy's since my days in LA late 70's early 80's. It was the place we went to in the early morning hours to get something to eat before going home. I didn't even realize one was in Long Beach, until a friend mentioned it last week. A burger & fries was under $4. And my husband was shocked @ the weight of the bag! The burger was just as good as I remembered it & the fries were HOT & way more than for one person! Shared with my husband & my dog! Very Fast service & very nice! read more

This place needs a new slogan and I think it should be, "Stopped up? We can fix that." The next day, you want to be close to a commode with some cool, wet wipes. Trust me on this. If the chili on the burger or chili cheese fries doesn't get you, the little yellow chilis will. I love Tommy's. It's everything that you shouldn't be eating all wrapped up in grease soaked yellow paper. The burgers are oozing with canned chili which is dutifully melting slices of processed American cheese. Holy coronary... I'm really not embarrassed to say that this is one of my favorite places to eat, although I don't eat here often. There's a good reason for that, believe me. My favorite thing about this spot is the guy that works the drive-thru late at night. He's always smiling and sends you off with the same words of wisdom. "Don't drive too fast. This restaurant is the ultimate example of "Don't screw with it if it's working fine." Menu is ultra-simple. Chili on everything unless you specifically ask for no chili. My husband had been craving Tommy's for months now so we finally made our way to one. We usually drive to the original one on Rampart but we didn't feel like dealing with traffic so we came out to Long Beach to do some shopping and eat. The staff was very nice and the food well it always hits the spot. It was very slow so we were the only ones here at the time. Good walk up burger joint. The burgers are not huge. They are a decent size, 1/4 lb i think. It was perfect for me. I had a burger, no chili and fries. Neither was too greasy. Everything tasted good it was exactly what I wanted. This place is open till 1am and takes cards. read more

We're talking Tommy's here. When I first visited Southern California 40 years ago, my Uncle took me to the original Tommy's at Beverly and Rampart and I was hooked. For me, Tommy's is a craving destination. The only thing to order is a double cheese with chili. You can add fries, with or without chili and cheese, but the basic order is the double cheese.
