So good I got it delivered the day after visiting! Although i'm sad Meddlesome Moth is gone, I'm excited that Ospi is an excellent replacement. The pasta here is freshly made and it's obvious from the taste. My friend and I ordered the whipped ricotta, and garlic confit focaccia for appetizers. They honestly should come together, the garlic confit was underwhelming alone. For the entrees we ordered the tagliatelle and the chicken Parmesan with rigatoni. I wanted the lasagna but it was sold out. I was pleasantly surprised by the tagliatelle, it was perfect! Pasta melts in your mouth and the dishes have do much flavor. The food was so good that I got the lasagna delivered the next day. Everything was packaged well and was still hot when it got to me. I can't wait to go back/get other dishes delivered. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful. However, It's extremely loud in there, like louder than a normal busy restaurant. Ospi brings a modern twist to classic southern Italian dining. This fine dining establishment was created by a Top Chef contender, originally founded in California. They are known for their vodka sauce and after trying it firsthand I understand why it's so well known. For starters, we ordered garlic confit foccacia served with olive oil, olives, and rosemary almonds. The bread itself was well seasoned and soft and paired well with the garlic butter and olives (both pitted and non pitted olives were included). For main dishes, we ordered various pasta dishes, half of the party (including me) ordered the Spicy Rigatoni served in the vodka sauce and I selected the meatballs add on. Important to note if you are ordering the same thing, the meatballs are $3 each, not total and you typically get about 3 on the dish so it's about $9 for meatballs which I thought was a bit excessive pricing wise. Despite that this dish was well worth it as the sauce is so good and one of the best vodka pasta dishes I've ever tried. It's actually a bit spicy which I've found other vodka sauces fail in this department. I added chili flakes, but it's not required, only if you like an extra kick. The rigatoni is cooked beautifully and the meatballs are tasty along with the sauce and spices. Lastly, we ordered the tiramisu for the table and it was honestly so light and creamy, I was very impressed. Ospi is definitely worth trying at least once. read more

Not very much garlic oil. We then split the spicy rigatoni, cacio pepperoni pizza, and kale salad. Spicy rigatoni portion was really small compared to the table who got it next to us. Pizza was good. Kale salad was boring. Overall, service needed work. Shout out to the manager, such a sweet guy, came by to check on us and recommended spreading the Stracciatella around the pizza to balance out the heat...really good, loved the chewy, thin crust also! Had to try this new restaurant in town! They clearly take pride in their pasta (made from scratch daily, up to 3 different types of flour) and I'm sold - I had to try this southern Italian place in the design district. Feels like a neighborhood restaurant in your friends home. Rebeccas margarita - the craziest drink on the menu with the salt air - it threw us for a surprise! The basil and gran gala worked so nicely, came out more as a cool, leafy drink Lusty martini - basically a pornstar martini and I could taste the passion fruit with every sip, which made me happy. Cool as a cucumber - my favorite mocktail - clarified raspberry and cucumber juice. I would get a gallon of I could Whipped ricotta - insanely good bread and beautiful ricotta. I'll get their bread again in a heartbeat Scarpinocc - they say very brown butter but it was swimming in a lot of non-browner butter mixed with browned butter. As someone who browns their butter at home and likes the deep molasses flavor, I was disappointed. The dish is absolutely extraordinary for sure, but I didn't like it swimming in normal butter. The braised beef was A+ but the dough was more firm to the touch than I'd like in a dumpling format Mandilli - the silkiest, smoothest pesto I have ever tasted. They stayed true to the menu with the word silky! Lemon cheesecake - I'm not big on cheesecake but this was sublime. When I was younger, maybe eleven, maybe twelve, somewhere in that window of life where your ideas are enormous and your self awareness is basically nonexistent, I decided I was going to open a restaurant. Not a normal restaurant. A very specific restaurant with a very specific vision that I was convinced would revolutionize the American dining experience and make me wealthy beyond comprehension. The concept was this. Pizza and pasta, served exclusively at breakfast, on Tuesdays only. That was the whole thing. That was the entire business model. You could not come Monday. You could not come Wednesday. You showed up Tuesday morning, hungry and committed, and you got pizza and pasta and one other item that I invented myself which I called a Crumblino, which was essentially a meatball that had been flattened with a rolling pin and then baked into a shape that I can only describe as aggressive, topped with a sauce I made from ketchup and an Italian seasoning packet from the spice aisle and something I found in the back of the pantry that I no longer remember but felt right at the time. The Crumblino had no nutritional basis. It had no culinary precedent. It existed because I wanted it to exist and I was eleven years old and that felt like sufficient justification for everything. I had a name for the restaurant. I called it Tuesday's. Not Tuesday like the day, Tuesday like a person named Tuesday, because I felt the restaurant deserved a human identity. I drew a logo. I designed a menu on a piece of notebook paper in blue gel pen with a border of small stars that I thought communicated fine dining. I showed my mother the business plan, which was the menu and also a note that said "will be famous." She looked at it for a long time and said "that's interesting honey" in the tone of voice that parents use when they are choosing their battles carefully. My father asked who would come to a restaurant that was only open one morning a week. I said people who really wanted the Crumblino. He had no follow up questions. Tuesday's never opened. The Crumblino was never served to a paying customer. The restaurant industry lost something that day and I am not sure it has ever fully recovered. I think about Tuesday's every time I go somewhere that does pizza and pasta correctly because it reminds me of what I was reaching for at age eleven even if I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and the Crumblino was genuinely not a food. I think about it especially now because Ospi opened on May 1st at 1621 Oak Lawn Avenue in the Design District and chef Jackson Kalb is doing pizza and pasta with a California ease and a Southern Italian soul and a total absence of ketchup based sauces, and eleven year old me would have walked in, looked around, and thought yeah okay this is closer to what I had in mind. Jackson Kalb was on Top Chef. He opened Ospi in Venice Beach in 2020, in the middle of a pandemic, which is the culinary equivalent of deciding to learn to swim by jumping into the deep end during a storm. It worked. California lost its mind over it. And now he packed up his bread starter, which he transported in his checked luggage from California to Dallas like a man carrying something precious and alive, which he was, and opened the first Texas location in the former Meddlesome Moth space and the Design District gained something it did not know it was missing. The bread starter that traveled in the checked luggage makes the focaccia and the pizza dough. I need you to sit with this. He carried the living starter across state lines in a bag that also presumably contained socks and a charger and whatever else you pack when you are relocating a restaurant concept to Texas. The dough that resulted from this journey is extraordinary and I say this as a person who has strong feelings about bread and will not be moved on this topic. The spicy rigatoni arrived and did something immediate and irreversible to my afternoon. The pizza arrived and I thought about Tuesday's and the notebook paper menu with the star border and the Crumblino that never was, and I felt genuinely at peace with the fact that I did not open that restaurant because if I had I would not have been sitting here eating this instead and the world arranged itself correctly in the end. Eleven year old me would order the spicy rigatoni. He would probably also try to add a Crumblino to the menu. They would politely decline. He would respect it. read more

Came here on Memorial Day Monday brunch-ish hours and walked in cautiously optimistic. Ospi took over the old Meddlesome Moth space, and the ambiance works well. Nice energy, good outdoor patio setup, and our waitress was genuinely excellent. she was attentive, accommodating, and pleasant throughout the meal. Quick correction for anyone reading: Ospi does have a brunch menu, but only Saturdays and Sundays. Since we came Monday for Memorial Day, that's on us. That said... the food ended up being wildly inconsistent. The cauliflower had a very good Calabrian sauce bringing nice heat and flavor, but the dates felt strange in the dish and threw off the balance. Hold the dates and this is actually pretty solid. The cheese toast was disappointing. Barely toasted bread served as two oversized pieces. Since it arrived cold, the cheese coagulated and the toast became soggy. The gluten-free pasta with spicy rigatoni sauce was serviceable. Not offensive, not memorable. Regular spicy rigatoni, though? Actually pretty good. The Kale & Kanpachi Salad was probably the biggest surprise of the meal fresh, balanced, and one of the few dishes I'd happily order again. Fungi pizza was another bright spot. Good crust, good sauce, and honestly one of the stronger executions we had all meal. The cacio e pepe was unfortunately atrocious. The sauce wasn't emulsified properly and turned grainy and broken. The pasta texture missed too.... It was undercooked without achieving proper al dente and everything clumped together into a knotted mess that was hard to enjoy. Chicken parmesan sandwich also missed hard. Dry chicken, and the bread-to-chicken ratio made absolutely no sense. Two smaller pieces sitting inside oversized bread. At ~$20, it should feel at least slightly elevated beyond something I could grab from Potbelly. Eggplant parmesan had similar bread issues, though the eggplant itself wasn't bad. Overall: fantastic service, nice patio, cool atmosphere, but a kitchen that felt all over the place. A couple strong dishes (salad, spicy rigatoni, fungi pizza) couldn't fully overcome some major misses. I'd come back for patio vibes and carefully selected menu items but not rushing back for a full meal. read more

Saw a TikTok video about Ospi and as an Italian food lover, had to try this place immediately. We ordered drinks and must I say the espresso martin,Amazing!! For the appetizer we order the whipped ricotta, my only complaint is the focaccia to whipped ricotta ratio was a little small. We had to order extra focaccia ( btw this is a $6.00 charge). Connor was sweet to walk us through the menu and recommended hai favorites, which was ironically the rigatoni . I asked Connor if it was better than Carbones which is ironically diagonal from the restaurant, and he said it was. He was telling the truth btw lol. I ordered the rigatoni with meatballs which were so moist and fulfilling. I was so full by the time I finished eating. My boyfriend order the paper plane & he loved his drink and got the Copione pizza. This place was actually kind of busy so try to get a reservation, if possible. I was really excited to try Ospi, but it was a huge disappointment from start to finish. The service was surprisingly poor. Our waiter spent most of the meal trying to upsell us instead of making sure we had a good experience. He strongly pushed the $50 ribs--which felt odd at an Italian restaurant--and also recommended the burrata and prosciutto appetizer. The problem? They forgot the burrata entirely. He also recommended the fried provolone, which ended up being one of the worst things we ordered. It was underwhelming and definitely not worth the hype. The service only got worse as the meal went on. Our empty drinks would be taken away without anyone asking if we wanted refills. Our silverware was cleared after one course and never replaced before the next until we had to ask. As for the food, the pizza was incredibly mediocre and nowhere near worth the price. To top it all off, my stomach was in shambles afterward. With so many great Italian restaurants in Dallas, I can't see myself ever coming back. The place was just so busy and we got forgotten about. The drinks were great but out of our food, the only thing that made it to our table was a kale salad with salmon so we all just shared that. The rest of our food didn't come despite seeing people around us getting food. Finally after 2hrs we politely gave up and just asked if the food was available if it could be boxed up and if not if it could be removed from the check. They were able to get the boxed up food to our table within 3 min and also removed it from our check.
