Husband and I came here on a cold day at about 8pm. To our surprise, this place is still packed but with available tables as the dinner crowd was thinning out. Osteria is located along the N Highland lane, towards the end where CVS is. It's in a quieter end but didn't stop their business from crowd.. So we sat down, our server came quickly with menus and took our drink orders. The menu is somewhat flexible. I didn't like spaghetti and could replace with fettucini. My husband had one of the daily specials and he felt that it could be better. My Chicken Parmigiana ($13) was done well. The white meat (which I hate) was moist. Fried crispy at parts that did not touch the cheese. The fettucini I go was al dante. Some kitchens overcook the noodles making it soggy. The sauce had a hint of tang and sweetness. We used to come here every year for our anniversary but no more! This past weekend we went and got a waitress in need of a serious attitude adjustment. Since the wine menu has changed, we asked if we could taste some to see if we liked it before committing to an entire bottle. The waitress brought us 2 samples but instead of the flavors we asked for, she secretly brought us a different flavor. We didn't like either sample so we asked to taste the correct flavor we had originally asked for. The waitress said the reason why she didn't bring us our original request was that it required opening a new bottle and she didn't want to do that. Then she informed us that we had a 2 taste limit which we had now used up (on a flavor we never asked for!) and now must buy our wine by the glass to see if we like it inste. Uh... no! We just up and left at that point. We had this same server before and weren't impressed with her back then either. After this latest episode, we will be celebrating our anniversary elsewhere from now on. read more

Walking around VaHi on a Saturday morning, this was one of the few places open for brunch, so my boyfriend and I decided to go in since he loves Italian food. We jokingly talked about breakfast pizza and behold, Osteria 832 had one. The breakfast pizza was pretty good: a chewy crust, various toppings including red onion, egg, potatoes. This might've been the only thing we both enjoyed. We also had the Highland Benedict which is a poached egg on top of chicken sausage and polenta cakes while all topped with sawmill gravy. I also had a side of the grits. There was a bit too much gravy, so for those gravy-conscious like me, I'd ask to have it on the side. I think the only thing I enjoyed from this was the chicken sausage. The polenta cakes looked like they were made from the grits, so there wasn't anything too special about the cakes - probably should have ordered the potatoes. The portion is huge that I couldn't finish it. The restaurant space is comfortable and not too crowded. I'd be curious to try out the pizza here on my next visit since i enjoyed the breakfast pizza. Again, it's a bit out of the way for me to make a trip to VaHi but it's nice to come out here once in a while to see the changes on North Highland Ave. read more

My best friend loves this place, and now I can understand why. Their Italian is divine, certainly not the best I've had, but it is pretty good when you are craving pasta. Our waitress was wonderful and helpful, especially since she warned me that the sangria was really sweet (thank you btw). Decided against it and went with sparkling water instead. We ordered the bread basket, caesar salad and arugula salad. While I cannot speak for the caesar salad, my friend seemed to enjoy it. The arugula salad was nice and lemony, how I like it! Bread basket was ok, nothing special. If you love bread with olive oil, get it. But if you'd rather shove your face with salad and pasta, SKIP IT. Anyone that knows me knows I am a mushroom fanatic, so I could not pass down the chicken marsala. I'm so glad I got it, because it was delicious. My friend got the chicken parmesan, and it was super yum. Everything you want in chicken parmesan. Pastas were cooked al dente, which is such an overlooked thing with so many restaurants these days, it was nice to have it be exactly so. Came here after riding in this beautiful neighborhood. The food was amazing. Our first order was the mussels in a white sauce with a side of homemade garlic bread. To say the least it was amazing and so fresh like we were by the sea. Then we i ordered for my entree a squid and shrimp pasta in a tasty red sauce. She ordered a chicken fettuccine in a pharm sauce. Such a delicious local restaurant in the heart of Virginia Highlands. Amazing staff working there will classic reliably good, flavorful Italian dishes. I chose to eat here on a whim while participating in the Zombie bar crawl 2017, I hadn't eaten dinner & I wasn't about to be drinking in a bar crawl with nothing in my stomach. No one wants to be THAT girl. We were able to get seated on the patio quickly where we could watch all the zombies passing by the restaurant. Thankfully Osteria 832 wasn't as busy as other restaurants in the area, maybe because they weren't actively participating in the bar crawl. The menu had a lot of tasty things, but I thought pizza would be the most fitting for this type of night. I ordered a margarita pizza, but when it came out, I was surprised by the look & taste. It was like a frozen cheese pizza from the grocery store. The crust was super thin & the oil soaked it. The look was also unlike any margarita pizza i've had. There were no chunks of mozzarella or basil leaves. We also saw another table order a pizza that looked more like a traditional margarita pizza, but it was called a pesto pizza. I didn't want to complain because our service was excellent & we didn't have time to do so because we were going to meet up with friends. In the end, I'd come back to people watch because they do have a nice patio & great service, I just wouldn't order the margarita pizza. read more

Visited Osteria with some friends for brunch on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised by the cute cafe in the heart of Virginia Highlands! I believe there is only street parking available, but on a Sunday, it wasn't too hard to find a spot on one of the nearby neighborhood streets. Took a look at the regular menu (sad to see not many dairy-free options available) but ended up getting the "make your own" omelet from the brunch menu. The "make your own" options had some unique additions -- like fresh basil -- that I don't normally see, so that was a pleasant surprise. They were also happy to switch out my potato side for fruit at no extra cost (!!!). I was happy with my omelet and everyone I was dining with also enjoyed their choices (breakfast sandwich w/ grits, frittata and egg hash). All-in-all, a solid-choice in the neighborhood that deserves a visit for the Topo Chico alone. read more

Saturday, March 12th this place was chosen by my boyfriend. Perfect day to go, sun shining and warm outside. Arrived around 5 ish and the place was nice and empty. Atmosphere: Nothing fancy or special, just a neighborhood eatery located in the back of midtown Atlanta. Tiny parking area on the side of the building that still did not have a lot of cars parked even 2 1/2 hours later when we were leaving. So this is definitely a place where the locals who live in the area make up most of their customers. Food: Boyfriend had the chicken piccata, he did not like it {so glad he picked the place :-) } and I had the chicken parmesan and I enjoyed it {see picture}. Also enjoyed the tiramisu for dessert. Limited menu that is missing a classic that you would expect to see on an Italian restaurant menu....NO LASAGNA!! Also most places put complimentary bread and olive oil on the table, here they charge you $3. Price: Really economical, $12-$14 will get you an entree with a nice enough portion size so that you wont leave hungry. Service: Our waiter was attentive and checked on us regularly. Hours of operation: A little bit strange to have a restaurant not open until 5 pm. Will definitely return to eat here again when I am in the mood for some Italian. read more

I've mentioned Osteria for comparison in other reviews and just realized I've never actually reviewed Osteria! BAD YELPER!! Okay, I love this place. It's cute and in a cute part of town without the usual price tag and attitude. It's affordable. It's casual. It's a lower cost meal than the chain competition with unique flavor. I always order a calamari appetizer and chicken parm and both are hands down the best you will find. The calamari is fried with fresh basil leaves for a pleasant taste and aroma with a light pomodoro sauce that tastes like tomatoes and not Ragu. The chicken parm is a nice thin sliced chicken breast with a good beading, not the typical flaky crumbs. The pasta has a bit of sauce with thinly sliced garlic for a spunk of flavor. My husband has tried different things, a pizza, chicken marsala, and he loved a ruby spaghetti that was a daily special.. A pasta with a sauce made of beets. He loved it! The pizza is pretty good, there's better out there but you shouldn't be disappointed unless you're a restaurant chain banger. Try a cocktail, too! read more

I came here because my nail tech suite is next door and I was hungry. I walked in and they had a cute atmosphere window cased restaurant lots of seating great huge full bar. I ordered to go at the bar and I had the margrehti pizza which is 12" and it cut in four slices. The tomatoes tasted so fresh and the basil was fresh with a fire oven roasted crust taste. The crust is thin which is great has a nice crisp. I also ordered the pesto chicken pasta which came with fresh basil on top. The pesto tasted fresh the chicken was not over done and it came in a great size for the price. When asked if I needed condiments for my pizza they gave me fresh grated Parmesan shreds instead of the normal grated cheese and red pepper. Nothing of this meal missed the mark and none was saved. I have been going to Osteria 832 since I moved here in 2010! It has stayed consistently very good over the years. I love their smoked prosciutto pizza and spaghetti and meatballs. Their hazelnut and carmelized banana crepe dessert is amazing. It has a vibrant, welcoming, and family friendly atmosphere. It is definitely one of my spots for special occasions, I have enjoyed coming here with my family and friends to celebrate birthdays over the years. Love this place! read more

I have visited Osteria 832 a few times over the last year. They offer carafes of house wine at a reasonable price (compared to bottle-price) which is always perfect for me and my friends. The outside is quaint and comfortable. The inside is often occupied by large families with many children, which definitely distracts from the good vibe of the actual restaurant. I love their caprese--the mozzarella is very fresh and the tomatoes typically have a lot of flavor. I usually order their bolognese and request linguine instead of rigatoni. Their linguine is always cooked perfectly and goes well with their semi-buttery and light bolognese. read more

I've never done this before, where after I literally just sampled all the stuff I ordered from this place thru Uber eats and I am blown away to the point where I needed to write a review. How have I not had this sooner?! I ordered for one person, myself: that gorgonzola shroom spinach pasta, the kids order of Mac and cheese (they said they had a homemade cheese sauce which sounds BOMB so why make things exclusive and have it only on the kids menu?!), Bread, arugula salad, and Cesar salad. And tiramisu. That kids Mac and cheese house sauce was BOMB just as I thought it would be. The gorgonzola pasta, DIVINE. Both mixed together? Honestly, everything everywhere all at once. The tiramisu transported me to a happy plane I've missed most of my life. I am so sorry I ordered thru Uber Eats. Went back here this weekend because the weather was so nice. After a few more years of dining around town since my last review, I have to say the food here really isn't very good. I tasted two pastas and they were both sub-par. It's true this is a cheap eats kind of place and it's probably also true that the food may be better than at what I call "Uncle Vinny's" sort of generic American Italian diners in the suburbs and small towns. In Atlanta I would much rather pay a bit more and eat much better pasta or pizza elsewhere. I still think the patio is great. It's one of the better patios around. It's so nice that I am tempted to still give out three stars entirely because of the patio. But a two star "Meh I've experienced better" captures my feeling well. read more

The Lombardia is very tasty- tomato, mozzarella, fresh Italian sausage, & gorgonzola. As is the Calabrese which consists of tomato, mozzarella, salame, oilves, onions, tomatoes, & oregano. You can't really go wrong when these pizzas though. They are quite tasty. Not very large or filling, but very satisfying. The last time I dined here I decided to branch away from the pizza and opted to go for the Boscaiola Pasta, which consisted of shells, pancetta, mushrooms, peas & parmigiano in a cream sauce. I requested some red hot crushed pepper....And wow, that really hit the spot! Definitely a great menu choice. The waitress recommended it, and I'm glad that she did! For dessert I shared the cheescake made with mascarpone cheese. Hmmmm, very tasty. Very, very small!!! But really really good! Osteria 832 has a ton of meaning to me. This is where my bf and I first started hanging out as friends and across the street in front of my car he confessed his love for me. We used to eat here all the time and I always got the gorgonzola pasta or a veggie pizza. So as you see, this place has a special place in my heart. We haven't visited Osteria 832 in awhile, considering we live half-a-mile from the Highlands and we run by every weekend, it's not the location. We came here one night after seeing a show at The Fox. We have a rule, developed from common courtesy as well as his experience as a server, that we do not go into a restaurant unless there are 30+ minutes until closing. And even then we know our order by the time the server asks for drinks. It's rude, we don't do it! So, on this particular evening we were sat on the patio in the corner with both tables next to ours taken by other customers. Several servers walked by us filling drinks, taking orders, and checking on their tables. Never once did anyone take our drink order. We waited for 20 minutes without anyone saying a single thing to us. At this point, we got up and went inside I layed the menu's on the bar (quiet dramatically) and walked out the door. We haven't returned since and maybe eventually we'll return, but ya know what? Figo is yummy and cheaper and satisfies me all the same. read more

Osteria is okay. The prices are rather high (which I understand for the area), but the food is just average. I'm a value person and if I can go next door and have a better meal for less, I will. Unless, of course, next door has too long of a wait for my timeframe. That is what happened last time. I had a small (4-5) group of friends joining up for lunch and we really wanted to go to Roadhouse Grill, but the wait was too long for our collective schedule. We ended up here, and the service was mediocre. The food was acceptable, but nothing to write home about. In particular, we asked to taste the mac and cheese - because we had a connoisseur of mac and cheese among us - and it was "so-so" they said. I will give great compliments to the staff for accommodating the request to taste it first. The long-and-short of it is that if you have some money to waste, and you are specifically craving Italian food, and you cannot get to another location (such as Alfredo's on Cheshire Bridge, which is super authentic or Nino's on Cheshire bridge, which is more modern) then it's an okay choice. If, however, you have the flexibility then I would recommend finding another place for Italian or visiting one of the other restaurants nearby. read more

This was the second time I have eaten at Osteria and I thought that I would give it another shot. However, when I arrived I was greeted by a very unfriendly hostess (who I believe was in turn the manager/owner?). I wanted to sit outside, however, it was going to be a 25 minute wait, when there were available tables and very few people waiting. So we chose to eat inside - looking over the menu I was excited to eat a nice pasta dish since I had not had one in a long time - due to a workout program I am involved in and I also had to be selective on the ingredients I ate. Here is where the very disappointing part started. Whole-wheat pasta - check (add a dollar, okay I can handle that) They had an attractive chicken pasta dish that I was interested in, but couldn't eat the cream sauce so I asked for the red sauce that was offered on a similar menu item. To my dismay, this was a huge problem and would cost me an additional $2 to get a sauce that was... wait... already made and offered on another dish. Don't think that is worth a $2 substitution. So an $11 dollar pasta dish (already pricey) is creeping up towards $13 or $14 dollars. Frustrated about this, the other member of my party got the dish I wanted with the cream sauce and in turn was glad I didn't pay for the dish with all the changes. It was not good, the chicken was limited and had a big hard piece in it that was not eatable. I ended up eating a $5 plate of romaine lettuce with a little parmesan on top, that was their caesar salad and a cup of soup, that I guess was the saving grace of the whole meal. The girl serving us was not friendly and took her time - and a meal that should have lasted 30 to 45 minutes took over an hour and a half. I have been here several times and always had fantastic service at the bar. The bartenders have always been very helpful and extremely friendly. On this particular occassion, I had forgotten my rewards card. The bartender was so nice that she let me go home and call her back with the number so I could get the points, as they were closing. Bonus points for that! The food has always been awesome and consistant. The caesar salad has the perfect amount of dressing and the calamari is the best in the city I've ever had. Come on Monday nights for trivia and the opportunity to win house cash. Now the downside...as everyone was hurrying to finish up their work and assist the customers, the manager (I assumed this much) sat behind the bar and was on her iphone texting or playing games for at least ten minutes.
