I wish I had taken pictures, but I didn't. I was completely caught up in caregiving, which I love, though it can definitely be a lot, especially when taking an elderly family member out to eat. We went during the week for lunch at Outback Steakhouse on Howe Avenue, and I wanted to share how wonderful our experience was. Our server, Antoinette, was incredible. She was kind, hardworking, compassionate, and very efficient. From the moment we sat down, she greeted us with a warm smile and a friendly energy that instantly made us feel welcome. She was patient and helpful as we decided what to order, since it had been a while since our last visit. I considered trying something new but ended up going with my usual, the Outback Center Cut Sirloin. It's consistently good. I paired it with the house salad (no raw red onions) that included romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded cheese, and delicious croutons, along with a fully loaded baked potato topped with sour cream, butter, cheese, and green onions. We also started with a loaf of warm honey wheat bread and soft whipped butter, which disappeared almost instantly. Now, about my grandmother. Technically, she's not my biological grandma, but we'll call her Grandma for the sake of this review. She shared with Antoinette that she had some recent dental issues and was concerned about ordering something too tough to chew. I had tried helping her earlier, but anyone with elderly loved ones knows they can be a little particular. Thankfully, Antoinette picked up on everything quickly and offered thoughtful, gentle guidance. She knelt down to Grandma's level, made eye contact, and spoke clearly and kindly. She suggested the potato soup without the crunchy bacon bits and recommended the mac and cheese for its softness. For dessert, she pointed her toward the chocolate-drizzled cheesecake, knowing it would be perfect. Chocolate is Grandma's weakness, and she loved it. Antoinette made sure Grandma was comfortable, happy, and had everything she needed. Because of her, I was actually able to relax and enjoy my meal, which isn't always entirely possible when taking an elderly person out. She was personable, attentive, and took exceptional care of us! The experience was so special that Grandma has not stopped talking about Antoinette since. She tells everyone about her new friend at Outback on Howe and how her smile and energy lit up the whole place. She is not wrong. Antoinette, thank you for your kindness, patience, and for going above and beyond to care for us. We will absolutely be back. Also, it had been a while since I visited an Outback, and I was pleasantly surprised. The interior looked more updated and less like a cheesy Australian-themed spot. The menu has expanded, and the food was solid. Some of my family members have said the quality has gone downhill, but I would disagree. If my only complaint is that the tomatoes in the salad are now halved instead of whole, which they have been doing for years, and in my opinion, then that's a pretty minor complaint. Great food, an even better server, and a genuinely enjoyable visit. Excellent customer service is priceless. Updating my review - Again -- a solid 5, would be a 10 if it were an option. Last reviewed this location in July of 2023. We returned to this location yesterday for lunch. I have to say I was just as impressed with this visit as I was the last time we visited. A true bonus for us is that we had the same server, Antoinette. The same server a few years later? Wow that says a lot for the management here! Everything about our lunch was absolutely perfect! I ordered the exact same thing I ordered at another location about a month ago but with a completely different experience. We were offered hot fresh bread as soon as we were seated. The baked potato soup was very good and served hot ,as it should be. The salad was fresh and very good. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly and served piping hot. When I asked about the types of lettuce in the salad, she actually knew, (the server at the other location has no idea). Our server was attentive, offering refills on drinks and checking in on us during our visit. Antoinette brings a smiling face and is a true asset to this Outback Steakhouse. read more

The location is okay, it's in Arden so I guess you can say that statement speaks for itself. The parking lot is around the back of Outback and is almost situated on a hill. Like the other location I've visited, you almost have to walk all the way around the restaurant to get to the front door, very strange choice if you ask me; but then the name makes sense. Our sever Valerie was phenomenal. Honestly, I'm writing this review solely based on her service. She plugged it with that brown bread, 5 stars just for her service alone. She was extremely attentive, came by to ask us if we were doing well constantly, and very fast. She went above and beyond. Could not ask for a better server. 6 stars if possible. The food (as always) was top notch. You start out by getting a loaf of their house bread which is to die for. When it's slightly warm and you lather a blanket of butter on it, it's like taking a short trip to heaven. We ordered the bloom onion thing which was really good. We asked for the wings to be extra crispy, which they delivered on the spot. The flavor of the steak was splendid, it wasn't cooked too much but just right to be medium rare. I don't think they could've provided a tastier meal. It's a real bang for your buck here. Yeah you can expect to walk out of here for around $65 for a meal for two (making this a $$$$ place for me) but it is significantly more affordable than it's main competition, Black Angus or Ruth Chris which are not too far from here. 100% will be back. TL;DR: If you ever go to this Outback, ASK FOR REESE. He's SUPER DOPE and I WISH WE TIPPED HIM MORE. ~40% was not enough. Summary: Wow. WOW. What a pleasant and wonderful experience! This review is for Reese (give this guy the biggest raise ever, please!) and the wonderful service/food at this location. We never eat out. I love to cook, so we generally will have a sit-down restaurant meal only once a month, if that. This time, we were craving some comfort food, and Outback just sounded BOMB. Y'know what I mean? Like, "Wanna get down on some ribs at Outback?!" That kinda day. The Service: We were juggling a lot during our visit, (hubby broke his arm recently, so we were a little "handicapped"), but what really made this meal memorable was our waiter, Reese. Like, I don't even wanna talk about the food. Reese deserves an Oscar. A Grammy. A Kid's Choice Award. Employee of the Forever. How can we describe Reese? Friendly, welcoming, made us feel at home, made us feel like family, made us feel at ease, seemed really confident in himself and his abilities, never rushed us, really took care of us, anticipated what we needed, went the extra mile -- you name it, he did it. It was just nice to feel like the one time we decided to go and have a meal outside our home, someone like Reese was there to serve us. It was just the unexpected double-cherry on top to our expectations of yummy food. But okay, fine. I guess I should mention the food, too. It's just that Reese was so great, the yummy food is an afterthought. The Food: YUM. Yummy bread appetizer (hubby says it's jokingly referred to as "chocolate bread" because of the rich and dark brown crust) with whipped butter, yummy wing appetizer (mmm, wow!!), yummy Blue Cheese Pecan Salad and Wedge Salad (seriously, so good), and even more delicious ribs. I will dream of these ribs for weeks. We ordered the Sirloin and Ribs, and while the Ribs + Loaded Mashed Potatoes were fantastic, the Sirloin itself was a bit undercooked. BUT. Hang with me, here, because the service immediately made up for it. We showed Reese our undercooked steak, who immediately took it back to be fired longer on the grill, then asked us if we wanted another serving of ribs and loaded mash to go with it. We politely declined (we already demolished our ribs), but he insisted, saying it was on the house. Well gosh, okay, sure. Thank you! We can just take it home, I guess. When the steak was brought back, the manager accompanied it, apologized, and stayed to watch us cut into it and ensure it was prepared the way we liked. It was! Thank you again! We enjoyed our meal (hubby looooved the steak), and mostly, we quietly chatted about how nice the service was. You just don't really expect to love your waiters at a chain restaurant, but MAN. What a friendly and accommodating server! We ended the night with some amazing cheesecake Reese talked us into, haha. Hubby had the raspberry cheesecake, and I had the chocolate. So good! We're usually really good about what we eat (typically super healthy), so I felt guilty eating such rich food, but it was wooorth iiiiit because I really loved everything I had. Just want to double, triple, and quadruple-down on how wonderful our service and meal was at this location. I'm really looking forward to coming back again. And if you, person reading this, are ever in the neighborhood, drop by and ASK FOR REESE. Someone else needs to bear witness to this guy and see what an awesome server he is. Seriously. Fantastic. We came to this roadhouse because the other we were wanting at the time was a bit further out. Upon arrival it looked like it was a slow night with lots of parking. My friends look forward to dining here once a month, and this month, they took me here as a thank you for house sitting. Not crowded. The waiter knew them. We ordered starters, soup/salad and entrees. Obviously, you think they will be delivered staggered..... Nope! Really? I have waited tables for over 3 decades in the past - I have never seen anything as unprofessional as this in all my restaurant time. It was early and not crowded - WTF? Me and my gfs went for dinner on a Saturday night and we were seated right away. We ordered apps and the fried mushroom and shrimp were delicious. The entrees took forever to come out and by the time they did we needed to box one of them because we had a show to get too. My asparagus was burnt and I asked to return it and pack so I can take it home. They never did. It took almost 15 mins for my friends food to come back because they place it in the to go section. Haven't been to Outback in about 4 years, so we decided to give it a try. Sadly, this may be my last. I remembered the bread being delicious and warm, filling my belly before the entree comes out. Alas I am relegated to reminisce of the days of old. Not once, nor twice, but three times we asked for bread, but our voices were unheard. The server was very bubbly and pleasant and quick to clean our plates, but our cups were left thirsty. The food was on par with an Applebee's or Chili's, but the prices were Black Angus. We had Steaks, ribs and chicken. Steaks were more well then medium rare, chicken is dry, and my bake potato was overcooked so much it had hard spots. Overall friendly service, clean, and so so food. I was traveling through Sacramento and decided to stop at the outback at 1340 Howe Ave. My two sons were with me and we were celebrating mother's day and one of my son's birthdays so we were hoping it would be a nice evening. It was a great evening! We were served by a lady named Ami who was extremely good at her job she acted like we were her only customers ( the place was packed ) and made us at home like favored regulars. The food was cooked perfectly and was served quickly which surprised us with the amount of people there. I travel a lot and eat on the road often and I have to say this was the best experience in a long time. Our server Alex never came at all, the manager was the one who took our order after waiting 15mins for anyone to come to our table. After the food came, we were never checked on to even complain the steak was under cooked. First off our server/bartender was amazing, his name was Michael or Mikey. If I had a say which I obviously don't, that man would get a raise or at minimum a star sticker. Lol! He provided excellent service with a smile on his face the whole time. He anticipated our needs before we even had them. We sat in the bar area because the table wait was a little long and we were in between basketball games for our kids. The wait was long probably due to staffing issues just like most restaurants lately. We haven't been here in a while, the food is good. I love the the warm honey oat bread I could literally eat just that! The blooming onion with whatever that amazing dipping sauce is, love that!
