My wife and I went here on Valentines Day earlier this week. I have had South American food several times before. But the food here was special. We had Paella de Vegan and Curry Goat. But these were just top class. The ambience was excellent and the service was top notch. Being residents of Pleasanton, Oyo is now going to be one we will be visiting regularly. Very good jerk chicken sandwich and Caribbean tacos, also with jerk chicken. Be sure to order the sweet plantains as they go really well with the meal. Service was friendly. Easy street parking on a weekday; weekends would probably be more crowded out there. read more

We visited last month and it was pretty expensive. I don't mind paying a higher price but the food was mediocre at best. Paella was over cooked and the ribs were dry. I don't like to complain about service during COVID but I feel the waiter needs some retraining. Hostess was nice and the ambiance was good. read more

Loved the atmosphere and food. Had the Cesar jerk chicken salad. Very good. Also had the Jerk chicken shrimp. A little too much oil for me, but the flavor was delicious. I would like to go back and try the ox tail soup. It looked amazing. My friends said the paella was delicious as well. This is a super nice spot with great outdoor dining. The food was really good. Ordered the Seafood Paella and Island Salmon and the Street Food Doubles. Everything was fresh and tasty. Servers were amazing and attentive. They have a house-made hot salsa - that my husband really loved. It was tasty, but a little spicy for me - so I just placed a tiny bit on my food. My salmon came with a pineapple salsa that was amazing and a perfect combination to the rest of the plate - which included coconut rice . . . amazing! So many more options that I want to try here. OYO stood its standing, rating and vibes with its breezy oceanic island ambiance and its steamy environment on this hot Sunday evening...packed with diners and birthday bashes in one corner and then another . Servers were on their toes and with promptness that's bit out of place for such a relaxed atmosphere. The first coarse of channa paratha made a mark in our taste buds with its masala and soft bread. An order of plantain was soft but firm enough to hold in a hint of mayo; and of course a couple of margs with generous ice to cool off in otherwise not so conditioned space despite industrial fans buzzing in entrance and the far wall. It felt that the murals on the side walls were sweaty while the ceiling pedal fans almost weary doing their darn trying to cool the place off . The second course of a variety of items but mine of down river trout well done and succulent in each bite made the evening sweaty but sweet. A good choice to return on a cooler day. read more

A colorful, vibrant, and inviting place with amazing menu options. A blend of Caribbean, South American and Spanish food and it all looked delicious. We started with the Pholourie (fritters/croquetas). The tamarind and mango chutneys were packed with flavor. For main dishes we had the Oxtail Stew and the Oyo Pepper Pot. Both were rich and delicious. The stew portions was very generous, very shareable. All of this was delivered by attentive, friendly staff. Definitely coming back with friends soon. read more

I was excited to discover a Caribbean restaurant opened up. It's been a long time since I've been to Jamaica. I love jerk and I have only found good jerk once in the Bay Area. I will keep that a secret. Because this review is for Oyo. I headed over for take-out during the lockdown. The menu options are appealing and a refreshing change from same 'ol same 'ol restaurant menus. I ordered the jerk chicken, sweet plantains and coconut rice. The food quality is quite good, chicken perfectly cooked. I was disappointed in the jerk flavor though. It was just too mild for me. I was hoping for a carnival in my mouth. The slow heat. The multiple flavors that explode from all directions that give jerk that unique personality. It did have good flavor though. I realize many people cannot handle the heat. I'm not one of them. I say to Oyo do not be afraid to GO BIG! GO HOT! Offer varied heat options if you must. Heat is good. Heat creates loyal followings. Addicts that can't get enough. I will definitely return to sample the other menu items. Giving you 5 stars as a bribe to work on your heat. Let me know when you're ready for me. I'll be right over. read more

I love the colorful ambiance of the restaurant and the entire staff were friendly, engaging, and always ready for any questions about the menu or ready to pour you more water. We had a lovely margarita and appetizers from the Happy Hour Menu. We had Caribbean tacos w/jerk chicken and mango-papaya salsa. We also had a Tapas Platter: Beef patty which was tumeric spiced ground short rib in a tiny pie crust, chicken street food which was a bara-pocket w/chicken and chickpea stew, and a few split pea fritters with sides of mango and tamarind chutney. It was just enough for an enjoyable snack. A great place for groups and they have a nice sitting area outside. We made reservations, so we had an inside seat by the window. The dinner is absolutely amazing! Despite the high prices, this places dinner is great! But there is one thing to complain about unfortunately. That is, the brunch at 10:30-12:00. It wasn't as good as the dinner was but it was eatable. I'm guessing that things like the toast/bread we're homemade which is great but it's obvious. But overall, this place is decent. The most amazing dishes I have had the opportunity to taste in a very long time. The short-ribs were so good I was literally wiping the plate. Yesterday, Friday Aug. 14th my wife and I called Oyo because we saw their large happy hour banner hanging from their building days before. We called before driving down and told it's still on until 5:30pm. This was going to be our first time visiting, but once we showed up staff seemed confused and told us happy hour was discontinued... We were standing outside under the big poster saying Monday - Friday Happy Hour. If it has been discontinued don't you think you should take the poster down or even put a piece of black tape over the Friday happy hour? Far from a first good impression. read more

Amazing place! Stopped by their restaurant because my daughter told us about this new South American place. It was so good! I got the paella, my husband got the short ribs and my daughter got the jerk chicken. My paella was huge and so tasty! It was kind of a Cuban twist in classic paella. My daughters jerk chicken was seasoned to perfection and so juicy. The plantains on top were the perfect starchy balance. The short ribs were tender and flavorful. We also got the pumpkin soup to start, and it was also fantastic. Finished our meal off with the pine tart, which was kind of like an apple fritter with pineapple. My wife and I just enjoyed a delicious and decidedly unique meal here. We were both saying how nice it was to experience South American cuisine here in downtown Pleasanton. We took advantage of the outdoor dining on Main St. and we were 100% satisfied with our excellent meals and service. We even got to meet the owner, Maurice, who came out to check on our meals. I had the jerk half chicken and my wife had the seafood paella. Both were excellent. I had a local IPA and she had the sangria and whiskey smash and both were great. read more

Was not impressed with our first experience but went back due to some great reviews. Unfortunately, the experience was the same and so is my review. The food is pretty good but the service is abysmal, took over 20 minutes just to get someone to finally come to the table. It did not get better after that. Also, if you are older, the noise on the inside is unbearable. No sound barriers or dampeners on the ceiling or walls so you hear everything and people have to yell to be heard so it just gets worse. If you do go, be seated outside and be very patient. The food is unique and, like I said, pretty good. Just not a place I will ever go back to with so many better options on the street. read more

We ordered Jerk chicken, bean and rice and doubles... and then the server gave us three kinds of spicy sauces. I donno what to rave about... it all was excellent!!! The reason why I give it 4 star is because of the Sangria... it was not as impressive. No fruit, no crunch, no oomph! But I looooved the food. Yelp check-in for their street food doubles (9/10)! Super light and healthy, I'd recommend adding additional protein on top. I also tried the jerk chicken (5/10). I personally felt like it was too salty, however the aioli sauce and pickles help a bit. It's also pretty pricey. read more

Second time at Oyo. First was on Valentine's Day and the food/drinks were great! Second time was last night and we couldn't have been more disappointed. Drinks were blah and food was underwhelming.
