We went on a weekday evening and given the bustling atmosphere I could see why my friend made a reservation; I definitely recommend reserving a table to avoid a long wait. Service was attentive, and I appreciated how our server answered any menu questions that we have. We ended up sharing several small plates to start. The highlight of the appetizers was the squid ink spaghetti with its succulent shrimp, and the arancini was also tasty with its crunchy exterior. The beef tartare was mixed; I enjoyed the beef but the buckwheat crackers were a miss. I had the fish as my entree and thought it was expertly prepared. The pork saltimbocca was a little salty and fried for my taste and there were only a couple pieces of broccolini. The braised rabbit was tasty and the sauce was delicious but a small portion, the gnocchi were gummy and just tasted like sweet potato or was not enjoyable. Paladar 511 was an amazing finish to what had already been a great day roaming about the Bywater neighborhood. Paladar 511 is housed in an reclaimed warehouse and has all of the wonderful character that comes with such a project. Its location seems out of the way (though in truth it is in an eclectic and trending area) which made it seem all the more like an unexpected gem to our visitor eyes. The lighting is low and intimate, but the vibe is still very much come-as-you-are. A good thing since we'd been hiking around the area for hours. The menu is well-rounded with many dishes featuring house made pasta. Everyone in our party ordered something different and none of us were disappointed in what came to the table. If one stood out for me, it was my pork saltimbocca, served with broccolini, fontina, polenta (perfect texture), and marsala jus. Most of our dishes included house-made and seasonal ingredients, and all of them were delicious. The staff were pleasant, helpful, and efficient, and managed that perfect balance of attentiveness without being intrusive. Our main regret was not having come sooner so that we could have dined there again before our visit came to an end. Things to know: * Reservations, if not required, are highly recommended. * Consider the dishes that have the most seasonal ingredients * A good amount of street parking, but not a lot of open spaces. A couple of blocks from Frenchmen St. in Marigny, this place is a must visit when in New Orleans. First off, the decor is cool. Almost like an old warehouse. Also the kitchen and food prep is visible so you can somewhat see everything being made, especially if you sit at the bar. We went on a Monday night without a reservation at around 7pm and had to wait about 30 min or so for what we were told a bar seat but then they were able to seat us at a table. All of the food here is fresh and has unique flavors. We had the squash appetizer, the salad, the cheese pizza, and the rabbit. Everything was great. Seems like the squid ink pasta is popular and look forward to trying it next time. Also the service was quick and friendly. Well run operation. If only there were more Paladar 511 restaurants in the country. Nice work! read more

I've been coming to Paladar 511 since it opened because the food is a chef's kiss -- seriously, five stars. The service? Well, that's a different story. When they first opened, it was decent. But post-Covid? It's like they just gave up. After a brutal day at work, I thought, "What could possibly make this day infinitely better?" Of course, Paladar's squid ink spaghetti! Though it's nowhere near my route, I figured it was worth the detour. I showed up right when they opened, asked if I could get my order to go (with maybe 8 people in the place), and they told me to wait. So, I sat at the bar like a good little customer and waited. Fifteen minutes later, someone finally came to take my order. Then, because clearly, I'm a glutton for punishment, I decided to add another item to my order. The server is standing at the far side of the bar in the corner, typing my order into the computer. I asked the closest person (who is some kind of chef, I guess?) if he could get her attention. He looked at me like I just asked him to fix global warming. Apparently, I didn't get the memo that chefs in open kitchens are untouchable deities who can't be spoken to. Fine, I figured he knew her name and could easily get her attention, whatever. So, I raised my voice a little, "Excuse me!" I kinda sang. I wasn't that loud. I didn't get her attention but the kitchen folks look at me, look at her, and then just... stare. Hmmmmkay. At this point, I'm starting to think I'm invisible or they want me to be, so I get up, walk around the bar, and tell her myself. Finally, after all this, my food is ready. And, surprise surprise, the person who ignored me earlier puts my bag just out of reach on the bar. Because of course, he does. But hey, my food was ready, so I grabbed the bag, flashed a big smile, and said, "Thanks so much! I'm so excited to eat this!" No smile, no nod, no nothing. Look, they don't need to treat me like royalty, but a little warmth goes a long way. Taking an order and serving it? That should be the bare minimum, not the standard. With the quality of the food, the service should also be top-tier. I've been greeted more warmly by delivery drivers. Alas, in typical Paladar fashion, the food was as delicious as ever. Too bad their service is as flat and dry as a stale cracker. If I wanted rude, detached service, I'd go to New York -- at least there, it's expected. Honestly, it's so disappointing that they can't muster up even the slightest bit of warmth, considering how amazing the food is. I still always recommend this place to people because the food is amazing, but I make sure to warn them about the service. It's a real shame -- the food deserves better. read more

Native Californian reviewing food in New Orleans: Came here twice in 2 weeks and it was great every time. Favorites in order: Squid ink spaghetti is a must. So good!!! Seared snapper was very well fried on the outside and flavorful. Tuna crudo is raw tuna with a zesty sauce and refreshing! Tortellini was solid. Out of the desserts, my favorite was the peach cobbler, blueberry pie, dark chocolate. Recommend you make a reservation but I have gone without a reservation without issue. This is one of our favorite places in town, even though we like eating creole when we're here. Wonderful Italian inspired food. Is beautiful and buzzing. Staff is friendly and well-trained. We have corn biscuits, yellow tail sashimi with avocado and strawberries which was fantastic, caccio et peppe pasta which was to die for. The large arancini w short rib was also very good. The toasted beets and toasted carrots were good but wouldn't suggest unless you have a vegetarian in your group. We had a good veggie pizza and more caccio et peppe pasta as an entree. We have had tremendous food every time we've been there. This time the ragu/bolognese was too spicy. And would not recommend the cannelloni with cheese was dry and didn't live up to the rest of the menu. The strawberry cake/parfait was also very good. Drinks were tasty. Our waitress was fantastic and friendly. Sorry I have forgotten her name. We sat in the booth in the corner which was a nice spot to be in. The highlight of my meal though was the dessert - I loved the blueberry pie that was topped off with ice cream. Had a lovely time dining here for an early Sunday dinner. We made reservations a few days in advance and most time slots were already booked. Ambience: While the restaurant itself is on the nicer side, I would say most of the guests and servers were dressed casually so it definitely has a laid-back feel with an eclectic, artsy playlist to match. We were seated upstairs where we had a nice view of the entire establishment but our table happened to be right near the speaker which sometimes made conversations a little harder. Food: - Appetizers: We shared the grilled summer squash ($14) and parmesan breadsticks ($6). The summer squash was incredible and the harissa was unbelievably addicting. I made it a point to wipe every speck of harissa off the plate with the breadsticks (which were just as expected for breadsticks and nothing to write home about, by the way.) Ideally I would recommend splitting a starter between 2 people, but we were a party of 4 and were content with just getting a few bites each. - Entrees: I ordered the pork saltimbocca ($27) and oh boy was this a rich, hefty dish! I ended up taking half home and finishing it later that night. I wish it came with more broccolini to better balance out the heaviness. But overall I enjoyed it, although it was a tad on the saltier side. The rest of my party ordered the cacio e pepe, spicy San Marzano pizza, and buttered half chicken and were happy with the taste as well. - Drinks and dessert: I opted to order a sidecar instead of any of the house cocktails and thought Paladar 511 did a perfect job! It wasn't overly sweet and the citrus peel added a great touch of flavor. For dessert we shared an order of coffee ice cream plus a blackberry pie a la mode (honey lavender ice cream). Squid ink pasta!! By no means would this be a dish I would normally order, but by far this was the best dish of the table. Everything about it was fantastic. The lamb pizza was good. Like others said it was a little greasy, softening an otherwise crispy, slightly garlicky crust. The crust was delicious. We also had the pappardelle ragu and margarita pizza with white anchovy.
