Our first night, we bought a bottle of wine from your wine shop in front and you wrapped up a pizza slice for us to try. What a gem of a man. What a wife. What a family. We had lunch 6/28/2026 after many years of eating here off and on we came back to celebrate a family members birthday we were treated like family with generosity from this iconic place. Tony and our waitress sang to our table and gifted dessert to celebrate our family members birthday. in a world that has grown cold and stingy on the outside this would never happen inside this place. I was in the area for a work retreat. After a full day, a few new coworkers and myself decided to swing in for a late dinner. Immediately upon entering we were seated in a booth by the bar. The interior was so inviting. Warm wood, reds, eclectic decor and interesting architectural features. The waitress (possibly an owner) plopped a large thick cheesy bread on the center of the table for free and took our drink orders! A few of us split a bottle of wine, and some had beer. All of us ordered various red sauce entrees from Spaghetti to Cannelloni. The food was filling and hit the spot. Most dishes seem to use the same sauce, so it's more about picking what style of noodle you like. The service was incredible and welcoming, you could tell she wanted us to stay and have a good time! I had forgotten that my wife and I stopped to eat at this place before heading to the Greek Theatre which is a short distance away. Not located in the best area, but typical old authentic Italian restaurant with lovely old authentic Italian staff. The menu is enormous, and the food is good. Palermo's beginning was just a few years after Piero Selvaggio's Valentino came on the L.A. scene in 1973 to usher in the introduction of contemporary, high end, Italian recipes and techniques directly from Italy. It was the later half of the 1980's when la Alta Cucina Italiana movement pioneered by Valentino came in force to finally introduce us to the glories of Italian cuisine. Palermo Italian Restaurant was established in 1976 and is in homage to Italian American food stretching back to the 1880's which improvised mostly Southern Italian peasant food to use ingredients grown in and affected by general American culture since there were no modern transport systems to directly import fresh ingredients from Italy. Expect humble, hearty meals that lack culinary sophistication, but pleasantly fills the belly. My wife and I were out for an early dinner on Sunday and decided on Palermo's Italian restaurant. It had been a couple of years since we last dined there with friends. We have always enjoyed the food and the way Tony and Antonette made us feel like family when we first ate at their La Canada and Montrose locations. Yesterday was no different, the service was prompt and the pizza Roma starter just as we remembered it. A glass of house Chianti and salad started us off and the meal was complete with Chicken Diane. Tony was attentive to every table and that's the old school allure of Palermo's. He has time to communicate with every diner and make them feel special. His offering of a complimentary cannoli and coffee was extra special yesterday. Had another tasty meal at Palermo's yesterday for Sunday lunch. We were happily welcomed into the restaurant and seated. We ordered calamari appetizer cooked to perfection. It was tender and the coating was crisp and light. We also got a small sausage and mushroom pizza and swapped the red sauce out for olive oil and garlic. We did get a bowl of red sauce for my husband, who enjoys pizza the regular way. Our waitress Alex was nice and had served the slice of pizza with two spoons using them like tongs. The waitress brought out small sliced samples of the pizza. The mushroom pizza was very tasty but I do not like the airy thick crust dough they use. We came in 30 minutes before closing and they sat us immediately, and gave us incredible fast service. Then we had the pizza with pepperoni and sausage, everything freshly made and authentic! Im going to say it again, everything is FRESH! Along with an extremely huge portion of antipasto salad that was loaded! The prices are very reasonable, especially for the amount of food you're getting, oh and you will have leftovers. "Don't get me flowers on Valentine's Day, get me Palermo's." - That's what my girlfriend told me so I decided to go to Palermo's for the first time and boy did I leave feeling like I wanted to come back again! I ordered a heart shaped pizza Rosa with pepperoni and lasagna. My order came with free garlic bread and salad. I had the pleasure of being helped my Tony who gave me a complimentary slice of pizza Rosa while I waited and threw in two free cannolis for it being my first time. The customer service was superb! The interior of the restaurant gave you the feeling of being transported to Italy and the all the portraits of famous actors who've ate there and all the awards definitely let you know how historic of a restaurant this was. I'll admit it wasn't the best Italian food I've ever eaten, a solid 8/10 food-wise, but just from the customer service experience alone it made me want to come back and try their breakfast. I went to this restaurant with a friend who goes often. He said there was nothing bad on the menu. He ordered the melon wrapped in prosciutto. Excellent. All of us ordered something different. A mistake was made on my order as to the type of sauce. It was taken away and the correct meal/sauce was freshly prepared. Everyone else was about done when mine arrived. I ate some of it, but not wanting to hold up the others asked it to be packaged to go. My bag also included the meal that had the wrong sauce. That's customer service! My hotel room had a small freezer and I was able to get the pasta home to Washington State for dinner with my wife. The garlic bread that is served with the dinner was great. I wad pleasantly surprised by this Italian gem! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by super friendly staff who made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is incredibly inviting, with an authentic and family oriented vibe. The layout is super cozy and has that homey feel which we loved. The food? Amazing. The calamari was crispy and flavorful, the pasta was delicious, and the garlic bread--so good! You can tell they put a lot of care into what they serve. Our server Jenn was awesome--she frequently checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Even the older gentleman, who seemed to be the owner, came by to see how everything was. Stumbled into Palermo yesterday with my friend Ming - boy oh boy, my rear end made some serious deposits. The sweet red sauce from the parm maneuvered its way through my aching body and leaked out through my back end like I don't know what. I'm not kidding - pouring out. I should've went back to Palermo and used their toilet instead of making mine suffer at my place. They should be the ones stuck with the consequences of what they cooked up and now what I'm throwing down. Paying over $30 for all of this was ridiculous as well.
