I bought a red velvet cake, and when I asked the employee about it, she said, "It's $100--is that okay?" which came across as condescending. She initially thought I wanted the carrot cake, but the birthday person doesn't like carrot cake. To make matters worse, the cake itself was dry. Red velvet cake is usually moist. Wow not impressed. Breakfast ordered in today for 4 of us & food brought for 3 of us. They said my omelet was on way & left our table number. Asked a runner after 10 min said he'd check but didn't come back. Went to food window, after finding our ticket & conferring with the cooks they never made my breakfast. Waited another 5 min for my omelet. Now it's 20 min after my friends got their meals. I asked if my meal could be comp'd. She had to go ask the lead & I got a free pastry. Paid $2 extra for fruit instead of salad. Go look at my picture of the paltry portion of fruit the extra money got me. My make your own omelette was with spinach mushrooms & cheese, nothing special to say about it. My friend did say her cappuccino was excellent. The site: One of three restaurants this building. Cha Cha's on one end, and a barbecue restaurant on the other. Building next door is B J 's Brew house. The parking lot is crowded as heck during peak times. Overall a nice but busy area. The vibe: Warm and busy. I've only had lunch here once but lots of times for their pastries when they open. It can quickly fill up - at peak times the seating can be impossible. The pastries are beautifully displayed. The big printed wall menu is a nice touch. Service: You pay first and they either bring it out to you or you pick up. You may have to wait in line awhile, but the employees have always been helpful explaining the items. The food: French cafe sty;e food with a wide variety of beautifully made pastries, coffee, sandwiches, soup, salads (including salmon), and cake. The lunch item I ordered was the chicken pesto sandwich which I liked. But what I like most are their pastries. My favorites include the cinnamon twist which is dough twisted with a butter-cinnamon-sugar filling and dusted with powdered sugar. Hint: If you take it home, put it in warm over for 5-10 minutes and let is cool slightly. It'll be warm and crispy, tender and sweet with a great aroma. Also like the the tarts - cookie crust with different fillings - raspberry, multi fruit, pear, pecan. They're small but rich in taste. There is a wide variety of buttery croissants, like chocolate and apple which are yummy. However my favorite item is their almond croissant. It's generously filled with almond paste in a butter croissant and almond slices on top. If you get there at opening, you might get lucky and it will still be warm. It's the only thing I've ever eaten in my car before going home to bring the rest of my haul home. If the place was bigger, I'd probably come here more often for lunch or even dinner. I was running errands around Tustin and stumbled upon this place. One reviewer said it's a great place to study so I came to check it out. Plenty of parking in the front. Came around lunch time and the place was packed. Ordered the le big maque... which is basically a burger with Brie cheese. Delicious! Loved the fries too! It actually IS a great place to study. I sat at a bar top that happened to have an outlet but I didn't see any other outlets. I stayed until 4ish and the place had slowed down. Before leaving I also order an affogato with their cookie caramel gelato. Delicious! There is plenty of seating at the bar tops or regular tables. Music choice is great. A very aesthetic French bakery that I'm happy they have in the OC area. I appreciate the variety of menu options and pastries. The workers were very helpful with walking us through the menu. The bread for the sandwiches is well made and they give very generous portions for the price. The scrambled eggs sandwich was very well balanced with the ingredients you were able to get pieces of all of the toppings in every bite. They were also very generous with the amount of turkey that was in the turkey in Brie sandwich. It did slightly overshadow the Brie taste wise, but it was still an excellent dish. Here's my honest opinion about this place: I've visited various Pandor locations, and I frequent this particular one quite often. The service can be quick and efficient at times, but this isn't always the case. The food and beverages also lack consistency; there are days when everything comes out hot and fresh, while other times, the quality is so off that it leaves you questioning your experience. Their pastries are always beautifully displayed in the case. I've tried their fruit tarts and croissants--while they're decent, they're not particularly memorable. Horrible service. The gentleman taking my order was distracted by someone else there prior just hanging out and chit chatting with him. He got my order all wrong, forgot two of the items, and had to ring me up twice. He had no idea what the pastries were and I had to tell him, I also repeated myself 2-3 times to remind him what I ordered. Pandor's food is great, however they need to train better or hire employees who know what they are doing. He was handling the cash register and then turned around to pour juices into the jars without any gloves, and ended up spilling everywhere - which must be a food handler hazard. read more
