I brunched here this past weekend and the brunch at Panxa Cocina wasn't it. Our table started with the chips and dips ($13). The app comes with a trio of hatch green chile salsa, guacamole, and black bean puree. I especially liked that it came as like a sampler. For my entree, I ordered the smothered breakfast burrito ($21). It comes with scrambled eggs, potatoes, queso Oaxaca with your choice of protein (pork sausage for me). You also get to choose how your burrito is smothered: hatch green, chimayo red or Christmas. I did ask for it to be half + half, however it came completely smothered in chimayo red. It wasn't bad, but it was a whole lot of chimayo red. My burrito's insides were no bueno. The potatoes were undercooked and there was a whole lot of nothing going on in the burrito. More cheese might have saved it, but overall it lacked a great deal of flavor. There was no star ingredient to save the day. The general consensus of our party was that everything ordered tasted very bland. While it's more common for one dish to be mid, we all found our entrees to be lacking flavor. And there were five us dining together. Service was very spotty, which I don't typically mind especially during brunch, here, it was noticeably slow. Slow is okay, but lack of attentiveness was also noted. Food aside, the space is so, so cute. And they take resys. read more

My wife's family on her mother's side originally came from Spain and migrated to the United States and settled in Hurley New Mexico. So, when I started dating my wife, she introduced me to her mom's side of the family who was raised reading New Mexican Cuisine like, NM Enchiladas which are stacked then topped between each layer were Pan seared corn tortillas, onion, cheddar cheese and a heaping scoop of NM Red Chile. Then, it was cooked in the microwave (modern version) to melt everything together, then a fried egg or two was placed on top. You gotta crack the yolk all over the stacked enchilada. Upon, arriving I snapped a photo of the exterior, which had an old vibe to it but the interior was very modern. We were greeted with a smile by the hostess and we got to pick our seating. Our server didn't come right away but a hung lady who was helping the server came and took our order. I had my mind set already on the Stacked Enchilada (always have to compare to my wife's family) and my wife ordered the Fry Bread Taco (very reminiscent of being on the reservation in NM). While our orders were sent off, we opted in getting two appetizers: the Goat Cheese Stuffed Squash Blossoms and the Green Chile Cornbread. Luckily for us, the two appetizers came out first and we got to digging in and they were absolutely delicious! Packed with flavor and a good portion for two people. We were getting excited for our Entrees...as they came, not only did they look appetizing, they were absolutely scrumpdilliumous! We were very happy with everything we ordered! We will definitely be coming back here again to try more dishes. 4.5 out of 5 stars...minus, 0.5 for lackluster service from our main server. Amazing New Mexican/Native American cuisine! Today was our 3rd visit and everything we have tried here so far has been delicious! Parking is street parking only, but we have never had any problems finding a close spot. Service has always been nice. They have a dinner area with lots of seating, a bar area with bar top seating/high top tables and they also have outdoor seating, high and low top tables. For the food, we've had... Here for happy hour!!!! The margaritas were excellent, the mezcal and tequila selection is wide so imagine all the possibilities of drinking them neat or in cocktail form. We ordered a bunch of the happy hour bites. The ceviche was my favorite. It had generous chunks of juicy white fish and it was falling off the tostada. The main dishes were good too, elk burger and the prawn spatzel. Our server was very attentive, she knew a lot about the menu and appreciated her recommendations. So many dishes we have yet to try! Came here for a friend's birthday and it was great. The atmosphere and service was good. We ordered a bunch of dishes and shared. The mole mushroom enchiladas was my favorite. We came with a party of 6 for dinner in a Sunday, it was slow and we didn't have any issues getting reservations. Our server was nice and patient as we asked multiple questions around the table. The food was food. I had the prawns which were really tasty, a little spicy, though for the price I was hoping to at least have one or two more of the prawns. There are only 3 on this dish. Dinner is even better than their brunch!! I loved their scallop and their sea bass! I also did get their mole dish. I'm picky with mole so I might not be the best in reviewing their mole dish... but their mushroom on the dish was my favorite part of their mushroom mole enchiladas, however, I was not the biggest fan of their mole sauce, I like mine more spicy than sweet and this mole was more on the sweet side. The scallops and sea bass dish was a hit though !! My bf was making it noises as he was munching away haha i probably was as well! Their drinks were definitely 10/10! Also, their host made our night! I had such a nice experience here when I came for lunch on a Friday around 12:30pm. My friend and I were seated right away and were checked on frequently. I got a watermelon basil margarita and it was so refreshing! For my entree I got the chicken sandwich and the bread is what stood out to me the most. I loved the combination of flavors between the lime, pickled onions and avocado (which I added). It was definitely giving a refreshing summery sandwich vibe that you can have all year long. Parking is on the street or neighborhood areas but wasn't too bad when I came. I would definitely come back to try other menu items. read more

We had just come from the beach and were a little grungy and looking for somewhere clos-ish to eat. We googled and gauged this place as being on the more casual end that looked yummy. When we got there though, it was a little nicer than we expected so we were nervous about walking in with three kids and sand still in our hair. But they were so gracious and accommodating, making us feel very comfortable while attending to our needs quickly because of hungry kids. All the food then ended up being amazing. Also, the chicken tacos from the kids menu looked really fancy and our slightly picky kids were raving about how delicious they were. 10/26/2023 Modern New Mexican cuisine. Their name is pronounced pan-zah (the Catalan word for belly). Before trying their food, I've read some  mixed reviews. Their reviews seemed inconsistent. However, their most consistent reviews was on their cornbread, chicken chimichanga and their herb crusted seabass. GREEN CHILE CORNBREAD Verrrrry good! This is a must-have! The cornbread is served in a small 4-inch round iron skillet and it comes piping hot! Great jalapeño and cornbread flavors! Rich, buttery texture and there's a dollop of sweet cream butter on top too. The sweet cream butter brings that velvety, sweet creaminess to each bite. Wish I asked for more of that butter! The cornbread itself does have that lovely cornmeal texture, however, due to the butter in it, it will have a overall buttery feel in your mouth. I enjoyed this dish very much and would love to come back just for this dish! NEW MEXICAN SKILLET This is a perfect brunch or lunch dish for those who want meat and veggies in one dish. Yes, it is a meat fajita dish, but it was done well! The food came out piping hot.  There was meat, green bell peppers, onions, potatoes, tomatoes and cheese. A roasted bell pepper sauce lined at the bottom. You also get to choose how you want your eggs to be served. Served with three medium-sized tortillas. The tortillas were very thin and it was okay. I could have done without it. This dish took about 20-25 minutes, so be mindful of that when you order it. HATCH GREEN SAUCE & CHIMAYO RED SAUCE I asked for some additional sauces on the side. Wanted to try their sauces. Their green sauce seems to be popular here. Hatch Green Sauce - Strangely served hot and not cold, maybe they just made it. It was odd and I didn't bother asking why. They added a thickening agent to thicken it, so it was a weird texture. Could not taste any green bell peppers or chiles. It was a very muted, odd flavor. Not sure why they served it. Their Red Sauce, the Chimayo Red was deliciously smoky and spicy! Great flavor! AMBIANCE / CUSTOMER SERVICE / PARKING Upon entrance, I was greeted by the host, who was very nice. Only one server was there during lunch hour. The service overall was good. Very clean and good space. It's large enough so that you won't be sitting elbow to elbow with the people next to you. The music was quiet and not your typical today's top hits. It was music from a bygone era, however it wasn't easily recognizable. But I did not dislike it. Only two unisex bathrooms and it was very clean. The parking will always be street parking. I had to squeeze my car in between two large trucks and that's unpleasant. There was a smaller parking lot behind the restaurant, but it was so small, I didn't bother checking it out thoroughly. My overall experience was good and I would like to return to try their Happy Hour menu. read more

We made a reservation for 1pm. The host was very rude. She is the one with red hair and a septum piercing. She told us we had to wait for a table because we did not want to sit at the bar top (the was self seating). I don't see the point of a reservation if we are going to be directed to a bar top. As tables cleared up, the same host did not even try to sit us at a table. After about 15 minutes we went to ask again about our reservation and she gave us attitude and, again, suggested the bar top or to wait. When we finally got sat she put the menus on the table and just walked away. So rude to us. Our server was amazing! Did a great job with explaining the menu and was very attentive. We ordered The ceviche mixto, Queso Oaxaca Skillet, Blue corn Pancakes, Breakfast burrito (christmas) and the Chilaquiles. The ceviche and chilaquiles were pleasantly delicious. The blue corn pancakes were good but wouldn't order them a second time. Breakfast burrito was tasty! I liked the green sauce more than the red. I also wish the potatoes in there were evenly cooked. I loved the vibe at Panxa Cocina. The restaurant had a really nice energy and a great ambiance. The cocktails were also great and freshly made without being too sweet. Our server was also really nice and helpful with recs. The food, however, was disappointing. Favorite dishes: stacked enchiladas (we got chicken but I'd try the short rib next time), and the Mexican pizza (veggie) Least favorite dishes: Queso (this was just melted cheese and had no flavor), green chili cornbread (also really bland. We couldn't taste the green chili at all and the cornbread was mediocre at best), salmon (again, super bland. Even the rice it was served on was bland and lacked salt.) I'm not sure if was an off night or if they just need to spice the dishes up and provide some salsa ‍ I was disappointed though bc everything on the menu sounded delicious so I had really high hopes for the food. read more

We dropped in for dinner and were pleasantly surprised with everything here. The decor is fresh and clean, how to say it... upscale Southwest decor and service. We were seated immediately on this night, and the restaurant filled up after we started dining. Our server was friendly, efficient and attentive throughout the evening. We started with the Caesar salad and then both enjoyed the stacked enchiladas, one with pork and one with chicken. The Charred queso with short ribs was good, definitely more filling than I expected. However, the new Mexican Pizza was not for me. It was very oily & heavy, I don't know how to describe it but I only had 1 piece and couldn't finish it (which is rare, I don't have issues with greasy food). The Nicholas sage was delicious! It tasted very much like bourbon but it was good, had a hard kick (I usually don't have bourbon). Out waiter was awesome, friendly and helpful. This is our second time to Panxa Cocina and it did not disappoint. My mother and I are both native New Mexicans and she was a little bit skeptical about the authenticity claim. However, this dinner exceeded all of our expectations. The one suggestion we will make is to add sopaipillas to the menu. What we did order was extremely flavorful, fresh, and filling. Best pozole we've ever had. The Indian fried bread taco was very well constructed with delicious short ribs, flavorful, red chili, fresh vegetables, atop a thick piece of fry bread.
