We went to Papadeaux near 183 and Research Blvd on 27 July and the hour long wait to get our food was not great but the food was overloaded with butter and salt and apparently Papadeaux doesn't know how to kill the fish smell using herbs. We were a party of 4 and will never go back since the food and wait time to be served was lousy and the food wasn't worth it. This was our worst dining experience ever and to pay almost $182 for terrible food means we will avoid Papadeaux in the future. read more

Best service I've had at Pappadeaux' store date! Now for the food...... Deep fried alligator: tastes just like chicken, nice and crunchy served with a good sauce. Texas Redfish and Crab $19.95. Our server Kendall recommendation this since it was a brand new addition to the lunch menu. This item is normally on the dinner menu for $40. The fish was cooked perfectly....juicy, moist, and flakey and that sauce!!! The sauce was a mix of lemon butter and maybe a balsamic drizzle or something like that with a little acidity. The sauce was delicious and made the dish especially on the rice . There was lumps of crab meat on top too! Even the side dish was great. The Yukon potatoes was so buttery and paired perfectly with the meal. Cajun Combo $19.95 We also decided to try this blackened catfish and shrimp Creole combo w dirty rice. Also very good....I preferred the Texas Redfish plate but both were delicious. Overall this place serves consistently good southern food! Came here for a friend's birthday. They, stupidly, discontinued the happy hour. The prices are astronomically too high, The house wines were $15 per glass and tasted horrible. I think two buck chuck from Trader Joes would have been better. Two salads, a bowl of gumbo, and the seafood fondeax was over $112 (plus the crappy wine). The place was basically deserted and looked like an old folks cafeteria. I will never go there again. 2 stars because the server was good. read more

Hadn't been to Papadeaux in years but we were given a gift card and gave it a try. My wife and I went for an early dinner last night and the place was packed. We put our name in and then went to the bar. They had a small booth open so we decided to eat in the bar. Ryan, our waiter, promptly took our drink order so we checked out the appetizer menu. We decided to nosh on some coconut shrimp. They were outstanding so we ordered two large crab cakes. They were loaded with crab and were also delicious! After a couple of Shiners, we decided to split an order of scallops which were perfectly cooked. The restaurant is newish and very loud inside. They have a nice outside patio for nicer weather. Pappadeaux has always been a hit or a miss. Unfortunately this time was a miss that was miles away from hitting the good target. The interior is dark, and the customers at pappadeaux seem to think that it's a fancy restaurant. We got seated near the bathroom. Wonderful. I was satiated with the calamari, but no seafood restaurant worth their salt could screw up calamari. Then the fish came out. It was gross and slimy, and I couldn't even eat until I got full because all I could feel was slime and some mushy food. I made sure to eat my food when I got back home. Don't recommend. I wish my family could go to another seafood restaurant besides a chain like pappadeaux. The Chinese seafood restaurants that everyone likes to laugh at for being cheap and homely serve better food without a high price tag read more

Y'all know that everything the Pappas family does when it comes to hospitality is done very well, right? If you're not from Texas, you may not know, but there are Pappas family-owned restaurants all over the state (plus Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New Mexico, & Ohio; see the full list at http://www.pappas.com/locations-list/) and they have been serving great food since opening their first locations in Houston in 1976. Pappadeaux is their NOLA-style Cajun/Creole restaurant line and this Northwest Austin location (one of 36 at time of writing) on Research/183 fully lives up to the high expectations long-time customers have. Service is phenomenal, the menu is excellent, and you'll leave satisfied, having had an excellent dining experience. I was so excited when this location finally opened in December 2016 (after being "Coming Soon" for about 3 years) because it's right down the street from my office, meaning I'd be much more likely to get a fresh, everything-made-from-scratch Pappadeaux meal on a more regular basis than I had for years. Reality: thus far, I make it in here about 6 times per year, usually to celebrate a special occasion or because someone with a corporate spending account is paying the bill! Oh, every once in a while, we'll also splurge on their fantastic to-go service if we're doing an easy special dinner night at home. Yeah, it's on the pricey side (you get what you pay for, folks!), but you can still get a great value if you come in for lunch and try the combo deals. Plus, happy hour is Monday-Friday from 3:00-6:30p (bar only, $3 drink minimum), so you can get your drink on with one of those colorful cocktails they do so well and take advantage of the reduced price app menu: catfish beignets with shoestring taters $4, crispy orange shrimp $5, petite poboy $6, fried calamari $6, mini fondeaux with shrimp & crawfish $9, fried alligator & fries $9, and shrimp boil with corn & potatoes $10. Where to start on the menu...? I love all of it, but if you are trying to watch your calorie intake, I can't lie, it can be a challenge to eat here. I most often order either one of the Naked Fish or the Seafood Cobb Salad with Shrimp and Lump Crab, substituting the Greek Dressing on the side, and being judicious with the amount of the blue cheese and crispy bacon I allow onto my fork. Everything from the grill is so good, everything topped with a buttery seafood sauce is unctuous, the sides are great, and yes, the fried items are perfect! It's probably a good thing for my waistline that I don't get in here often. My most recent love is the Sauteed Crab Fingers appetizer, which is made of about 40 blue crab claws in a rich etouffee sauce served with a huge side of dirty rice. Add that to the complimentary French bread, and you really could consider it a meal for 2. In fact, next time I go, I'm gonna sit at the bar with my date and order this. Be warned, you will be licking your fingers. Mmmmm-mmm-mmm! If you're trying to decide which Austin location to visit, all else being equal, I'd say the big difference between this 183 one and the older one off IH35 North is that this one has easier parking and seems a little more romantic & sedate, whereas the other one has higher ceilings, is more brightly lit, and sounds more like a party is in progress. read more

Had dinner there on a recent Saturday night. Unfortunately it's a very loud restaurant, which I don't enjoy. The service was good after a short wait. I had fried oysters which were quite tasty but were not piping hot, nor were the french fries. If they hadn't been reasonably good I would have given a lower rating. I've eaten here before and it's possible they were having an off night, possibly due to the crowd, so I will go back again, some time. read more

This is hard to describe, it's a love hate relationship. I love the food, but the service is always super slow. I have tried to narrow it down in terms of which area of the restaurant to sit in. I have found that sitting closer to the front yields better service, but not always. The servers are nice enough, just never really around. Maybe this location is understaffed? It's been this way since it opened. So, I return because the food is good, but the service continues to disappoint. Wish I had all the answers. Food came out slow and inconsistent. It took 2 1/2 hours to have dinner and they were not even busy. I had to ask for the manager to get our check paid so we could leave. One of the new managers took care of us during this time by offering us warm French bread and great conversation. I came to Pappadeaux for my friend's birthday. He had a party of 50 people for his celebration that he put a reservation for. We did have to wait an extra 45 minutes for a majority of our party to arrive before we were seated. Pappadaux never disappoints. Always top notch food and service! We went last night and it was the normal fabulous. We sat at the bar like we normally do. They have a new appetizer on their menu, lobster bites, that was absolutely freaking indulgent. The butter sauce is beyond words. It had a large portion of lobster( two pieces missing from dish...ate them before taking picture), and the garlic cheese bread was perfect for sopping up all the yumminess. We also had the grouper special (split) topped with a crab mixture that I would've liked to just have by itself on a piece of bread. Don't get me wrong, the grouper was amazing and perfectly cooked, but oh that crab topping! Tonight they called 30mins before our reso time stating that they cannot accommodate us on the patio. Then manager gets on the phone and was so unprofessional, no apology. Him: hi are u the one that wanted to sit on the patio bc can't accommodate you outside anymore. Me: I reserved the patio seating bc I'm most comfortable outside on the patio, as I'm pregnant. Him: it's very hard to find servers to want to work around all the Covid restrictions, I WOULD HOPE YOU COULD UNDERSTAND. - errrr wth? So you're saying no one wants to walk 10ft to the patio to serve? I come here all the time and last week it was hella packed inside, no plastic partitions at the bar booths, crowded everywhere. This restaurant is awesome. I came here twice already in one week, that's how good it is. The waiters are extremely helpful , friendly, courteous and all around awesome. I love their energy, good vibes. I didn't know what to get both times I was here and the waiters helped me pick my entrees etc both times. And both times my entrees and deserts was fantastic. I'm never a fan of lemonades anywhere but this place changed my mind. They have the best lemonades hands down. I had their watermelon lemonade which also has mint in it. It taste like a mojito with out the alcohol. And it taste so good. Like wow. I was so amazed with that alone. I had their red fish that I never had in my life. I'm usually extremely picky when it comes to fish. I usually go for the simple crab legs or lobster , but I actually had two different types of fish their and wow, DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!! And than to add the praline cheesecake, to die for!!! I'm honestly impressed with this restaurant. I can't believe they have a 3 star rating. The restaurant is EXCELLENT. Excellent staff. The restaurant is clean as well. Restrooms are perfect! Designs are beautiful everywhere in this place. They offer a full bar as well, I had several drinks there that I never had before and I was loving every single drink up in there. It's a great place to eat and drink. The two very small 3/8 thick in middle filets, inappropriate amount of fish for the dish and price. The red beans tasted okay. I ate them, but looked more like pork and beans with quartered cheap small sausage in it on a lot of rice. I was hungry. Husband's etouffe had what looked like the tiny crawfish you buy frozen from China. The two true seafood dishes with large shrimp were very good and our guests enjoyed them. I dined at Pappadeaux last Wed. night and paid with my business CC. I didn't notice my card wasn't in the sleeve after they ran my card. I proceeded to sign the bill and left. The next day I realized I never got my card back and called the restaurant and left a message for a manager to call me back and I never got a call back! So I called again first thing Friday and spoke to a manager and he told me nobody turned my card in and if they find it they'd call. No sense of urgency with him what so ever! I know that my card was last used there and I never got it back. Then.... Saturday morning i woke up to fraud warning from my bank with multiple charges on my card from the middle of the night. Someone from the restaurant or my server used my card downtown at "the library bar" to buy $100's of dollars worth of drinks! I didn't drop my card, I didn't loose it, I never got it back from my server! This is infuriating that people are so shitty and especially employees of a place I loved to eat! Yes I said it.... I went online and made my reservation. I called this morning to make sure my reservation was still good to go. The front person told me yes it was good to go. At 4:30 I get a call from the manager saying they cannot accommodate 15 people at that time that they would only be able to do 10 at 7:00 and then 5 at 8:30 or the whole party at 8:45. I was pissed! If you are looking for NOLA style foods outside of NOLA...Pappadeaux's is the place to go! Started off with six Blue Point Oysters that were perfectly chilled and delicious. The Crawfish Bisque was incredible with nice chunks of crawfish in a creamy bisque...easily as good as their Lobster Bisque! I decided to try the Costa Rican Mahi Alexander...blackened mahi with shrimp, scallops & crawfish in a white wine cream sauce with dirty rice. As they say in NOLA...this was "Slap Yo Mama good" and enough food for two people. This dish has just the right amount of spice to compliment the cream sauce versus overwhelming it. I must call out the bartender Gabrielle...she is incredible!!! I watched this woman mix and pour drinks for over an hour and she didn't miss a beat. Disappointing visit last night to one of our favorite restaurants...first we ordered "chef select" oysters ....pretty sure they were regular gulf oysters at $28.95 a dozen! Husband ordered jumbo scallops and when he received his food we actually thought it was a mistake...3 scallops 2 were maybe the size of a quarter and one slightly bigger. Definitely not jumbo and not even close to regular size! For almost $40 it was a joke! My soft shell crab was thrown over fries and served on a child's plate. No lemon . I ordered a baked potato sub for $5.95 which is ridiculous for a potato! French bread was not served warm. Just disappointing....it'll be awhile before we return! I went here recently to celebrate Mother's Day. They were very busy, but they were able to seat us in less than a ten minute wait time. Due to their popularity, I would still recommend reservations. The ambiance of the restaurant was upscale and nice, although it was a bit loud due to how many patrons they had dining at that time. However, the service was outstanding! We ordered the Mixed Oysters & Shrimp appetizer, seafood Cobb salad, and the Rainbow Trout & Shrimp as well. I had never had a raw oyster before and I am trying to do things that are outside of my comfort zone, so i tried one. It was very good, very clean and tasty. I love any restaurant by the Pappas' group. I always know they have high standards, fresh food, and clean restaurants. At this location, The patio area is gorgeous and the landscaping is impeccable. Quite a gorgeous entrance. The hostess was friendly and sat us immediately since we had a reservation. The food was delicious. They had a lump crab cake appetizer special which melted in my mouth. Highly recommend! What gives this four stars is the server who couldn't care less that it was my birthday.... Which sort of hurt my feelings. She half-caring said happy birthday and didn't offer a bday dessert or anything. Me and a friend visited the Pappadeaux restaurant in Austin, TX on Easter 2024. It was the research Blvd location . We were sat at a booth near the main entrance. However, there was a exit ( French doors) near our booth. Soon after we sat down, two white male servers proceeded to stand in front of the French doors close to our booth. They stood there to block the exit the entire time while we ordered our appetizers, & meals, & finished eating. The two servers only left from standing at the doors when we paid our tab. There was also a female African American greeter who stood to the side of them at a kiosk. I'm not sure if our server thought we would "dine and dash" because we are black, but I did not like this treatment. I felt like we were treated like we were potential thieves. read more

As a frequent patron of all Pappas restaurants, I know their standards and know when they are not up to par. We sat at our table for 5 mins without so much as a "hello" from the many servers that breezed by. Finally our server, blonde, man bun greets us. Unenthusiastic and just very short. Each time we'd request something , he forget it and would take several minutes before returning. Understandably there weren't any rolls of silverware on the table due to COVID but we had appetizers and bread without so much as a knife to spread the butter. When it was time to pay the bill, he disappeared again (with my credit card) for almost 7 minutes. I could never bring myself to not tip a server 20% but he honestly didn't deserve 10%. I am not a fan of Pappadeaux. Absolutely the worst fried seafood in the state. Only thing worth ordering are the daily grilled fish specials and the fresh shucked oysters in the bar. Their happy hour offers a few discounts on drinks as well as mini shrimp bo boys and an excellent seafood dip. The service at this location has been surprisingly poor as well.
