I haven't dined in yet, only just got take out, but I do plan to return to try some actual parm- it looked quite yummy. All I can speak of is the chicken Caesar salad and buffalo cucumbers.
I'll start with the good- the Caesar salad dressing is tasty, and the fresh shredded cheese is a nice touch- it all comes together perfectly, and I think I'm a pretty tough critic where salad is concerned. The croutons are also fresh and made in house- the kind that expel rich olive oil when you bite into it. My husband says it is arguably the best Caesar salad in BPC. The only problem with it is its size- it's pretty small for the price, but I didn't mind too much as I wasn't looking for a big serving. If I was 'omg starving' I might feel differently.
The not so great... the buffalo cucumbers are completely uninspired. Imagine you hadn't shopped in a while, looked in your refrigerator, and found a cucumber, a bottle of Tabasco, and some crumbled blue cheese. Throw that all together in a pathetic attempt at cooking, and this is what you get at Parm. When I ordered it, I imagined that I was getting a fried pickle of sorts, tossed in buffalo sauce and served with blue cheese dressing. That would be pretty cool. This was literally just slices of unpeeled and uncooked cucumber, doused in a flavorless yet very spicy sauce (and I should note- no sauce is too spicy for me, so this would be a bit much for the average folk), topped with crumbled cheese. It just makes no sense. Definitely skip that one.
As for the rest, I'll return to see.
UPDATE:
Since trying this place out, we've gotten take out a couple of more times. The second time, I tried the chicken parm on a roll, which was very good, in my opinion. Not the best I've ever had, but above average, and enough to keep me coming back. The chicken Francese was decent- if anything just a little bland. It could've used a little more flavor and tenderness (the pieces were too thick for Francese), but I enjoyed it overall. Mozzarella sticks were also good, and still crispy.
The last takeout visit didn't go as smoothly, but they handled it so well that I feel it counts for a lot. We ordered two Caesar salads, chicken Parm on the bun, mozzarella sticks, and baked clams. On this visit, everything looked and tasted different. I'm hoping it was just an off night. We were displeased when our rather expensive salads included 8 large leaves and no dressing. Whereas before, they both mixed in dressing and included on the side, this night there was nothing but dry lettuce with croutons. They were apologetic when we called, and although they hadn't yet begun delivery, they ran dressing right over, and threw in a slice of pie, which I thought was rather classy. Unfortunately, the Caesar dressing that night was SO mustardy and different from before. I appreciate that the dressing was made fresh in house, but wished someone tasted the batch first. It was hard to eat. The chicken was also overcooked and tough, and the bun soggy. The mozzarella sticks, usually crispy to my delight, were soggy as well. The clams were fine, but 6 tiny quarter sized clams are hardly worth $14. It was overall an unenjoyable meal that deferred my recent craving kick for Parm. I was so impressed with the staff though, that I'm willing to give them another shot. read more
