Had heard great things about this little gem, so tried it with friends. They loved all their choices. I wasn't happy with mine, so I will go again and have what they had. The gnocchi was delicious with the Gorgonzola sauce. The Filet Mignon wrapped in Parma ham with balsamic reduction sauce was cooked perfectly. The duchess potatoes were absolutely delicious. The vegetables looked a bit overcooked and mushy. I ordered the Tortelli filled with ricotta cheese and Swiss chard. It was similar to ravioli and the ratio of pasta to filling was way off. It also did not have any sauce with it. Sat in a layer of butter. It was very good, just not what I was expecting. The desserts were okay, I tried the trio, (which by the way were full servings of 3 desserts.) Next time I will try the lemon mascarpone cheesecake. Service was beyond exceptional. I came on a Saturday evening close to the end of the night. I called ahead, and was told that I would have a reservation for two whenever I arrived. As I pulled up, there was a nice assortment of luxury and sports cars parked outside. I felt underdressed as my other half and I had been watching the Giants game and had on our jerseys and hats. The inside is decorated very nicely, and many times I have felt out of place and been treated as such. That was definitely not the case here. From the moment I walked into the door, until the time I left, you get the feeling that you are treated like family. The owner of the place also visits each table to answer questions about the menu and check in on diners throughout the experience. As the owner was coming around, she shared with us the ingredients that were put into each plate because she was responsible for cooking many of the dishes herself and preparing sauces and other selected items such as dessert. You can tell that everything is homemade and fresh. Excellent balance between flavor, texture, and seasoning. Nothing overpowers the other, everything was delicious. I saw some of the ratings discussing the concern about prices. If you can't afford homemade authentic Italian food, Olive Garden sounds like a good idea for you. I was actually heading towards Olive Garden when I tried to find somewhere new, and yelp did not disappoint. The bruschetta was very good, meaty and ripe tomatoes with just the right balance of other ingredients. I had the porcini risotto which was delicious, perfectly cooked, and Gordon Ramsay would've been proud. She had a butternut ravioli with a brown butter and sage sauce which was delicious. The balsamic reduction on the side was so good I had to get more. Dessert was the lemon Mascarpone, and it was also equally amazing. By the time we left, it was after closing but nobody was hurrying to push us out. I can see why this place is so popular, but it wasn't for me. My husband and I were having a mini celebration and fancied what I call a "fancyish, sit-down, silverware and a glass of wine" dinner. Dressy in Fresno is different in Fresno than what I'm typically used to, so this is the kind of place I've been keeping an eye out for to get a nice dinner. The restaurant is divided into two - at the entry there's a gorgeous bar and exposed kitchen, very classy and beautiful. Part of the dining room is there, and the rest is through in another room which feels kinda like a covered patio (though it's really just another dining room). Since it was a quiet night it felt very divided: when we arrived all the servers were in the back, and by the time we'd finished our meal they were all in the front, so it took awhile to flag them down at points. The decor in the dining room was less to my tastes with lots of yellows and blues, it felt more like the kind of place that people in their 40s-50s might enjoy more than my generation. The owner welcomed us warmly and seated us. We started with a couple of drinks - the wine selection decent and there's a good range depending on how much you want to spend - I got some CRU wine and my husband had a couple of Morettis. We started with a bomb appetiser plate for two which came with bruschetta, caprese salad, another salad with walnuts and apples, a bean salad, and some mini quiches. It set us up for the meal really well - everything was really tasty and well-prepared. I particularly enjoyed the spinach quiche, which was more of a tower than a quiche lorraine style. I was a little underwhelmed by the selection of mains. Again, personal preference, as I was looking for something to twirl around a fork. What we got was good but less impressive than the starter - I had a pappardelle with duck, which was rich but honestly just got a bit boring after a few bites. My husband got the filet with balsamic reduction and scalloped potatoes, which he said was good. I'd been wanting to take my wife to Parma's & finally had the chance a few weeks ago. We arrived 15 minutes early but they sat us right away. It was loud inside so we took a table outside. We started off with the Misti antipasto appetizer. The cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto was delicious. They eggplant and bean salad were very good too. For our main course my wife had the potato gnocchi and I had the agnolotti. It was delicious as was her gnocchi. The dessert crepe was very good also. Agreed that this is probably the best restaurant in Fresno. Since the owners are from Parma, they offer fresh parmesan cheese as pre-appetizer to all the patrons. Formal, attentive service, and a surprisingly elegant setting. The owners will come out and greet you and chat with you about your meal. The antipasti platter alone can make a great meal.Lots of fairly rich sauces as representative of the region so make sure you arrive hungry. You can't ever go wrong with Italian food! It is always hearty and a great choice for comfort food. After searching Yelp for a good Italian restaurant to take my bf's parents to when they came to visit us, I discovered Parma. Parma is tucked away in a small shopping center that you can barely see from the street. If you didn't know it was there, you would drive by thinking it was just another office park off of Palm so keep an eye out if it's your first time! I loved the ambiance of the small restaurant and was keen to note that that had a cute little patio that seemed perfect for warm summer nights. As we looked over the menu, a woman I presume to be the owner, came by and introduced herself. She asked if we had any questions and explained some of the Chef's Choice dishes. It was a nice touch and appreciated. We started out by ordering the cured meat plate appetizer. I don't recall the exact name but it was the first item in the appetizer section. AMAZING! If you're with a group of meat eaters, ordering this for an app is a must. It was some of the best ham and salami (among other meat selections) that I've had. This also came with a plate of deep fried dough and polenta. Amazing. All of it. For entrees our table ordered the lasagna (2x), the pumpkin ravioli, and the veal ravioli. All dishes were immensely enjoyed. A few FYIs: 1. The ravioli dishes have very small servings, about 5 or 6 ravioli super dish. Keep that in mind if you have a bigger appetite. 2. I got the lasagna and thought it was incredible. However my boyfriend's mom tasted some and thought it was too rich. This lasagna is unique in that it is not heavy in red sauce. It is more creamy and cheesy. Now I'm sure you're probably wondering why it's only three stars. Unfortunately that is due to the service we received towards the end. We had an early dinner reservation around 6pm when the restaurant was fairly empty. Towards the end of our meal, things picked up and it was packed. This led to an incredibly diminished level of service aka they completely forgot about us. It took us almost an HOUR from the time we got our dessert (berry mousse- delicious) to when we actually left the restaurant because a) it took them forever to bring us our check and b) forever to bring it back to us to sign after the bill was paid. They also forgot to bring back my boxed up leftovers as well. It was as if we completely fell off their radar. While Parma left us feeling stuffed and content with their tasty food, their lackluster service towards the end of our evening also left us feeling overlooked. read more

We've been there twice, once was pretty good, and once was pretty unpleasant. First the positives--this is probably the best Italian restaurant in Fresno, although that is NOT saying a lot. The service is friendly and efficient--especially during our first dinner there, when the staff were not overburdened with a big office party. The restaurant is small and intimate--perfect for a romantic dinner, unless the entire place is taken over by a very rowdy and drunken office party, in which case it's loud and annoying and you can't hear your dinner companion over the bellowing and the raucous laughter of the people two feet away from you. The food is pretty good. Many people already mentioned the Parmesan cheese--it's great. So is the bread. The green-pepper frittata was excellent. The pasta is hit and miss--some is deliciously flavorful (in general, the red sauces are good); and some is shockingly bland (I'm someone who usually prefers white sauces, but I regret to inform you these have not been so good). All the wines we tried were delicious. Ditto for the desserts. The creme brulee was probably the best I've ever had. To the owners--if they read this--I think a restaurant this size is not suited for a large office party--but I can understand why the money would be good, and why it would be tempting to pack a large group into a small romantic restaurant. But...if you are having a big noisy party, please think of your other patrons. Our second dinner there really sucked, mainly because of the raucous party. The owners would have done the other patrons a huge favor if they had simply closed to anyone other than the obnoxious party. Now, I would hesitate to go back. Finally made it to Parma last weekend. Long awaited was a bit anxious to try their faire. The restaurant is cozy, yet cramped. Tables are a bit too close for a romantic setting if that is your desire. Not a place to go for a proposal. We were seated quickly, and the table looked nice. However, I have never been a proponent of having water and wine glasses sitting on the table before ordering. Within a few moments the first server showed up with the water and menus. The menu is quite impressive which could rival a Michelin star restaurant. The owner/manager was making her rounds, hugging and shaking hands. Though this personal engaging appears to be reserve for personal friends and family. It took the server another 8-10 minutes to return though the occupancy was at a mere 7 patrons with multiple servers. During this waiting period, a couple which had walked in after us had already corked a bottle. The couple noticed me stacking the wine glasses while waiting for our server. The lovely couple had their server back at their table before ours showed up. The gentlemen asked to server to pour a glass of his wine for us. Fantastic. So our server arrives with a small plate of bread and is ready to take or order. It should be noted, and most know this, most American Italian eateries they serve bread prior to appetizers or entrees. It is not the Italian way to fill up on bread before dinner. So we placed our order, I chose the minestrone and my GF the caprese salad. While we waited for the service, the couple which had walked in after us engaged us in a bit of conversation. Come to find out, the gentleman was a food supplier for the restaurant. Well this would explain the rapid service at his table. So the appetizers arrive and my GF immediately notices one of the tomato slices sitting below the mozzarella was the end of the tomato, a big no-no. So she put it off to the side, while I tried my soup. Understanding that there is no preferred minestrone recipe, mine was heavily flavored with zucchini. More to the point, it would have easily been called a zucchini/squash soup. It wasn't my cup of tea, or in this case my bowl of soup. Finally the owner/manager comes over to the table and asks how things were. Great personal effort, so I pointed down to the tomato end which she took and abruptly ended the conversation. I can only assume she was going to run back to the kitchen and give the chef a once-over. I think she was embarrassed by the mistake. Now at this point about 10 minutes into our apps, the server had yet to return to take our order. It was another few minutes and with the rather poor service we decided to end dinner with just the apps. Finally the server returns and we simply asked for the check In summary, aside from the apps issues, the menu looked incredible. On our way out, the couple grabbed us up and asked if we were leaving. I told him, unfortunately yes. I didn't go into any specifics but said we were rather full from the apps. But it must be noted, the couples entrees had arrived moments prior to our apps. I must say his rabbit looked great. The service was a bit off this evening. But not enough to banish this restaurant to the do not return list. I would recommend to the restaurant that along with its outstanding menu, great looking entrees (as seen on other tables), adding a sommelier could 1. fill in where the wait staff is a bit slow, 2. justify the menu price. Because our service was truly the deciding factor for leaving, we will more than likely return but only after experiencing the many other restaurants in the area first. read more

We decided on one Chef's Special and then another entree. It was perfect to share both dishes between the two of us. We got 4 different types of pasta. Pumpkin ravioli (sweet baby jesus), gnocchi, parmesan risotto (holy hell, yes!), and tagli-something. FOOD: You must do the pumpkin ravioli if you are adventurous, and the parmesan risotto. SERVICE: If Bill isn't busy whipping up delicious concoctions or teaching a bartending class or saving the world (all things he does in his spare time), ask him to be your server. Besides the spot-on suggestions and attentiveness, Bill brings life and experience to your table. He's got some awesome life stories and made us laugh the entire night. Did I mention it was our anniversary? He made our night very special, going out of the way for us, while sprinkling in some house parmesan and jokes. My sweetie and I stopped by later in the evening on a weekday, and found the Parma experience to be just okay (probably excellent for Fresno standards, but just ok by my standards). The food and presentation were decent. However, as others have noted, the service was inconsistent; there was much to be desired. We were initially greeted and sat by an older lady, who I assume was the owner. She was cordial. We were waited on by a few amateur stooges. They were young and having taken odd jobs myself under demanding matriarchs, I could sympathize. The complimentary bread and packaged breadsticks was served with butter. It was lackluster, at best. I had to request olive oil and balsamic vinegar (which is usually standard at "fine-r dining" places) be brought out. I particularly liked the concept of a pasta sampler. However, I thought the presentation could be better. The plate looked like something you'd get after visiting the buffet line at some budget-conscious wedding. Taste wise, they were delicious and highly recommended. Similarly, the "special" pork loin and creme brulee were tasty as well. Food is good, it's just that everything else needs work. I really wanted to love this place (I eat out a lot and have a special fondness for restaurants where the owners and chefs try to get to know who they are serving), but left thinking that the place could be much better managed. I understand that we arrived late and were probably their last seating, but sacrificing quality service to clean up tables and close is a bit funny (we could overhear the owner directing the waiters while waiting (what seemed like forever) for someone to bring us the dessert menu). Exquisite restaurant! I felt like I was in a little corner of Italy. The food was divine, and the service was top-notch. I love the ambiance, as it was very welcoming. The owner, who is the kindest Italian woman, greets you upon arrival with the biggest smile. She reminds me so much of my sweet grandmother-- honestly, it is like coming home to family and a home-cooked meal. Italians are some of the friendliest and nicest folks I have ever met. Disappointed. I've eaten there in the past but after last night I won't be back. We had a 7:00 reservation. I had the chef's selection #1, an appetizer assortment, a pasta, and a dessert for $35. I liked the bean salad and the piece of bruschetta, but didn't care for the cold quiche-like chunks and the lettuce selection. The pasta was excellent but came an hour 1/2 after the appetizer. The service was very slow. At about 9:00 no one still had taken our dessert order or come back to the table so I got up and went to the bar and forfeited the dessert. Horrible service. read more

Friday evening my friends and I went to Parma's for dinner. Reservations had been made and we arrived at our appointed time. We were seated, water was poured and reviewing the menu. Within 10 minutes the owner came over and said this table was reserved and quickly and rudely picked up our menus. The wait staff was surprised and set up a table for 2 to make it 3 right across from where we were previously seated. We took our own waters to the new table and the owner never gave us another thought as she seated friends we assumed. (She did spend most of the time visiting with them through out their dinner). We waited another 10 min for a waiter to come. By this time we were really not happy campers. The waiter apologized and said he would comp our drinks. (Which he did not). We finally ordered our drinks and an appetizer which was delicious. (a sampler). Following our pasta the wait staff came to clear our plates and started cleaning the table. We had to remind them we had not received our main course. Really?Myself and I had not eaten all our pasta and wanted to take it home. They boxed my friends and she got hers.
