I was visiting LA and wife wanted to have Thai food and we checked out this place as it was close to the hotel we we're staying after checking all the good reviews about it. Good thing was all the reviews were true. The place is small but the food and service was so good. Being vegetarian we ordered Spicy Thai Noodle and Green Curry and both turn out to be great. Got chicken pad thai. Big portion, yay! Definitely have leftovers for tomorrow which was awesome. The actual noodles part was flavorful but everything else was fairly bland/dry to be honest. We were denied access to eat here because we had our certified service dog with us. He was obviously well behaved and we offered to show his documentation and they still didn't let us dine here. There happened to be a lawyer dining at the same time who went and talked to them so hopefully they never do that to anyone else again. I'm never dissatisfied when I eat at pearl. From the service, to the kindness of the staff and of course the high-quality of the sumptuous dishes. That's why I return again and again. We live in Old Town Pasadena and are so happy to have found this Thai restaurant- it has easily become our go-to for Thai food. The pad see ew and pad Thai are to die for, and they have great drinks (e.g., Thai iced tea- recommend diluting with iced water which nearly doubles the amount!, buy 1 get 1 free rose milk tea). The restaurant also has light jazz music with minimalist comfortable decor- grey stained oak tables and cute succulents that make it a zen place to enjoy a peaceful dinner. I think it is really a four-star rating for us for reasons I will elaborate on in a moment, but I want them to succeed so I'm rating them at five stars as potential. This is a really small and lovely place. The decor is attractive (except for the lighting) the staff is extremely nice and accommodating (but it's too cold because of the air conditioner) and the food is great. Our first visit last night was very pleasant and we will be back. Food is very tasty, well presented and very reasonable price wise. There were only a couple of customers when we were there late on a Sunday night so the food came out really fast and it was very hot, which we like. But this is where the reduction of one star comes in. As is the case with most restaurants, the air conditioning is set for the staff who are usually busy running around or being in the kitchen where it is hot. They can't really get a sense of what it is like to just be sitting in one spot under a blasting air conditioner vent. It was also hot in Pasadena during the day so the air was on to compensate. But the air was just too cold and too intense. Besides making it a bit uncomfortable, it also makes the large open dishes of food get cold way before we are done eating. They need to be a bit more aware of how it is to sit under the vents with cold air coming on the patrons and on the food. Putting diffusers on the vents to spread the airflow out more evenly would help a lot. But again, this is pretty common in restaurants. People who run the places don't often feel the experience as a customer. Another thing is the lighting. This is really picky and not a big deal for most, but I'm just saying what improvements would make this a really great place. They have high-intensity spotlights in the ceiling. Some are on and some are off. This makes some of the tables way to bright and the table next to it a bit dark. It's kind of like sitting in a dentist chair under that bright spotlight or in a dark corner. Really needs to be softened and evened out. It would be much better if they had lower wattage bulbs that were a little warmer in color tone with a more even consistency. Again this is being picky, but why not make these small non-expensive changes to the lighting so the entire experience is excellent, not just good? So, despite the lighting and the cold temperature, we will be back again many times. But we are going to bring in some tin foil to cover up the food so it will stay a bit warmer. I hope they consider a few minor changes and are able to stay in business because we really want to call this one of our regular places! read more

This is a wonderful Thai restaurant that uses only the freshest ingredients and doesn't overcook them. We had the seafood salad which had calamari, shrimp, white fish, and mussels. It was dressed with a light, spicy lime juice dressing. We also shared an order of chicken pad thai. Unlike many Thai restaurants, the eggs in this pad thai were not oily and overcooked. The noodles were soft and delicious. The only reason that I didn't give the restaurant five stars is that we also ordered fried calamari as an appetizer. It was way too over breaded which was especially sad since it was tender and was cooked perfectly. If you are a twosome, be sure to come early for lunch to get a larger table on the side with the banquette seating (by 11:45). Otherwise, be seated in the tables against the wall which are more crowded together. read more
