I'm giving a 3 star mainly for the barista behind the espresso machine on Christmas Day, tall gentleman super sweet and handling barista pressure really well. Unlike His coworker at the register, she was rude and short and you could tell she wasn't handling the pressure of the line well. She was an older lady and yes I'm sorry you have to work on Chris but that is no ones fault. She also called espresso EXSPRESSO which as a barista that kills me to hear someone who serves coffee for a living not know how to say what they are serving correctly. I guess I'm just passionate about coffee and that's why I am in specialty coffee. But my point here is the the tall gentleman deserves a raise or to move on to a place where he can shine as he handle the pressure of a holiday line perfectly. He served the coffees with a smile even tho he had people rushing him. That is what I would call a great barista! He can do a very stressful job with a smile! And as a barista we honestly need more people like him! read more

A dose of condescension with your morning joe? It pains me to write a bad review of Peet's as I have been a daily customer of the company's various locations for four years. However, today, they lost my business. After watching people that ordered espresso drinks after me get theirs, I finally said something. I was told yours is coming blah blah, and that "the world doesn't revolve around you!" Really?? It doesn't? THANKS! Sounds like this guy should be teaching pre-school and not serving well adjusted adults coffee. You can tell me to wait, that's fine, I've been a barista, but this guy overstepped the line when he became my parent. I've so had it with PEET'S. It's time. I have walked in a few times in many different locations in Irvine, Newport, Costa Mesa, Ladera and El Toro and have been met with ZERO coffee brewed when I went to buy. They were out???!!! Not only that, no one had bothered to check that they were out. It's unfathomable to NOT have coffee brewing at a COFFEE shop with more than 2 employees ...yet it occurs. I communicated these problems with PEET'S district management and the issue was not immediately resolved. Some locations have improved but others not. I think that the leadership within the individual stores is poor and they need better, selected employees. As a customer you pay for coffee and then are immediately told that the coffee is not brewed and you must wait for it? That is the WORST thing you can do service-wise. You punish your customer for your poor performance? NO! DO YOUR JOB! NEVER pay for anything unless it is there in front of you. EVER! Service at some of the places is hit or miss. You can get some zombie working the register with a phoney smile and attitude or a pleasing personality. You will wait forever to order your coffee while 2-3 people in front of you are ordering their specialized drinks and pastries. I mean, why NOT have a line SPECIFICALLY FOR COFFEE?!!! I suppose the mission of PEET'S is to become PEET'S PASTRIES and COFFEE DRINKS. I have walked out many times over this nonsense. Lastly and most importantly, the people that work at PEET'S are beyond unhygienic. I have seen attempts by PEETY'S staff to serve coffee to me post wiping their nose, handling trash and a trash can, wiping down the dust/coffee name board with a filthy rag and TODAY, a gal handling a vacuum cleaner to the interior of the store then quickly returning WITHOUT visibly washing her hands. I have commented on a few occassions about the fact they were proceeding to serve coffee and NOT washing their hands. Sometimes I just refused to buy and walked out. I did this today for the last time. They have really good coffee when they have it and it isn't served with a side of filth. I have tried to revist the different locations at different times hoping for a turnaround but to no avail. Though there are 2 OTHER PEET'S locations I have patronized (not listed above) that ARE good, PEET's OC locations as a whole just suck. I really love the coffee but the service and experience is THE WORST at nearly every location I have visited. Therefore, with immense disappointment, I will go elsewhere. I am a regular, and thus, have made a conscious decision to give Peet's my business - as there are many options in the area. On the plus side, the location is hard to beat. The parking, outside seating & people watching are A+. The negative is that the all-important staff is incredibly inconsistent... and thus, so are the drinks. When they are empty, or when an experienced barista is available, the drinks are carefully made and delicious. When busy - I watch as my drink is rushed. ingredients are tossed into cups - and I receive an overly syruped / milked disasterpiece. The price, however, is always consistent. I understand not wanting to wait - but when paying a premium price, I demand a premium product! I give it 4 stars, because when they are on, the experience is a terrific one. read more

Let me start by stating that I never take the time to write a bad review because I believe that we all have bad days here and there, but I am officially done giving this particular Peet's the upper hand. I live walking distance from this shop and I visit nearly every morning because I am in love with the coffee. I am not, however, in love with the service. Claiming that the shop's busyness is any excuse for the terrible service is irrelevant, as there are less than 5 customers in line every morning that I walk in. I am sick and tired of my mornings beginning with the miserable attitudes of the employees here and it is not how I want to be treated where I spend my money on the daily! Chai tea Latte is good but the service is inconsistent. Sometimes they come across rude. And it is not necessary. Convenient and close which makes it a must for me. But definitely work on the attitudes as they are not needed. read more

Ordered a small cup of coffee and they didn't have any made. Can you believe that. I had already paid and it took an act of god to get my money back. Very poor customer service. Even the manager who had to unlock the cash register treated me terribly as I wanted a refund. By the time I got my money back, coffee was done brewing but I had lost my desire to let them keep my money. read more

Every time I've been to this location I've had nothing but good service and delicious drinks. I stop here as part of my "Newport Loop" to get a Jasmine Lime Tea Cooler and have never been disappointed. The store is always clean, the service is always great, and the drinks are always good. I ordered a white mocha from Grace the barista/shift lead and it was the most heavenly drink I've ever had. As the espresso and chocolate flowed from the cup into my mouth, all I could think about was how lucky I was in getting Grace as the barista on bar. There were two other workers there but they didn't make enough of an impression on me to remember their names. Or even remember what they looked like. Excellent coffee, awesome location, killer ambiance. Prices a little on the high side, but you get what you pay for. Sitting area just outside with the tidepool fountain is a great place to do a little work before getting to the office. Has Wifi but they now want your email address to connect, not sure what that's about. It should be a 4.5 stars, but I cant give it 5 because of the prices. read more

If I am lucky and get enough time before work to drive down to Peet's, I will do that before I will go to Starbucks or Coffee Bean. Peet's has a very unique feel, and also makes delicious flavored lattes differently than Starbucks and Coffee Bean: by adding the syrup to the espresso AFTER its poured. It makes a fresh-tasting difference. This location has wonderful service and is a great place to sit outside and enjoy the So Cal weather!. read more

This is a nice Peet's location! Staff is friendly and helpful. So far I have only been here during the early evening--at that time, it's quiet and relaxing inside. The staff seems to restock items right away. They also keep the place clean, a major plus! Will continue to return for iced teas, and an iced latte here and there. this is my favoritest coffee shop in the world. minus the annoying oc clientele, i love coming here and sitting outside by the fountain. their vanilla latte is perfection in a cup, and any of their loose-leaf teas are pretty much the best teas you can get at a coffee chain. don't forget, peet's coffee is oprah's coffee. oh yeah! their chai is pretty nasty, but they don't deserve one star for one bad drink. read more

Compared to most Starbucks, yes, this location is preferred; but compared to other Peet's locations, then this is the worst of the 5 I've frequented.. The best being on Campus dr. I really, really wanted to like this place, as this was my 3rd time passing by to the beach and giving it a last try, and yes, last. The outside fountain is nice touch and lounging chairs feels alright, but not inviting wyen surrounded being used my swm who lioks at you like the last piece of meat in earth; Maybe another star if Unless they change the rickety, broken toilet bowl that makes me feels like it's gonna sink into the ground; the cappucino flat, wet version requested was off, not the same as the way the morning barista man makes it on Campus dr; the staff although are wonderful people however, but I'm reviewing the location and drinks. Also not much outlets to charge, but i guess maybe they figured you can head to the huge Newport Beach public library right close by, which makes you think hmmm... The scones here are very strange. Got the Triple Berry scone which was closer to a weird jelley sandwich? Also got an Iced Maple Walnut scone; more of a burnt, dry, hockey puck of a biscuit. The Chi Tea Latte tasted like curdled milk and was overly sweet and the Latte tasted like chocolate milk even with an extra shot. The traffic flow through the store was awkward, making it impossible to see the disgusting pastries before you ordered them. Definitely not up to par with Starbucks. read more

Great spot to enjoy my favourite coffee company. Parking can be a premium with the crowds both at this private lot, the nearby city facilities and library, as well as the Fashion Island group. Smaller shoppe compared to other Peet's locations; and the opposing entrance/exit lane was odd. It causes a traffic jam with guests coming in to shop with the cluster of those waiting for their drinks to be made. The staff was friendly, greeting me as I entered. They're working hard to push drinks out to minimize the wait and crowd. Plenty of outdoor seating available to enjoy your drink of choice or one of their signature pastries. One sip of their intoxicating offering and I forgot about life's worries and sank into relaxation. read more

The worst cup of BASIC coffee. I did not check my cup as I was in a hurry to get on the road. It was like dirty sludge coffee that had been left all day on a burner. I have been wanting to try this place for a while, and one day we decided to go to Sprinkle's (which is next door), so it was the perfect opportunity. I'm sad to say, this place was just "ok". It was warm the day we went, so I wanted to get a blended coffee drink, but guess what? They don't serve them. I ended up ordering an iced mocha, and it was blah. Peets..I love them. They're far much better quality then Starbucks. The taste of the coffee does not have that bitter taste that Starbucks does. Maybe Peets got a lower rating because people are use to their coffee being over roasted? (rhetorical). They coffee is always smooth. My favorite is the Moca Java (any of the blends). This location though is trendy and full of the trend Newport culture so everyone has a dog on the patio. I counted 8 dogs this time. Though I love dogs...just my own quick tip. Patio was quite crowded on for a Friday 10ish. The store gets quite cramped as its small and gets crowded. Its very close to the ocean so on a nice day (if you can find a chair) its a pleasant place to have coffee but you do have to put up with Bentley owners and their snobbishness. read more
