I don't know why I haven't reviewed this Peet's long before today! I pass through the place nearly every day, and the time spent enjoying my espresso drinks and chatting with staff and clientele is one of the happiest parts of my routine. it has a cozy neighborhood feel. The coffee is GOOD. I love to watch new baristas being trained, gaining confidence, and enjoying their work along with the old timers-- a genial, professional team And I love to hear manager Maria talking about coffee-- SO knowledgeable-- and describing new products and specials-- SO enthusiastic. Well, where do I begin? The service here has declined since Maria left. I'm surprised I am ( after a decade of being a loyal customer), deciding to never buy coffee here again. Good coffee and tea. I like Peet's better than Starbucks for coffee, lattes, and especially teas (Starbucks uses tazo). But Starbucks does beat Peet's on the frappuccinos, the freddos from Peet's don't compare. Actually they just aren't very good, if I wanted a frap, I'd just go down the street to Starbucks for one. I used to work in midtown and while this was a bit of a walk from my office (especially considering how many other coffee shops were around), when I had the time I'd come here for a cup of coffee or tea. I've never been to a bad Peet's location and this is no exception. They always have great drinks, good service and everything just seems a bit better quality than Starbucks. I mean c'mon, they have fresh nutmeg graters and simple syrup at all their stores - you can't beat that! Their peppermint tea is my favorite and one time at this location I lucked out - they only had 1 bag left so I got mine for free! read more

I don't care that this is a chain coffee shop, Peet's consistently has the best coffee Ive ever had. I could possibly go on forever about what makes them the best but I will try not to bore you. Let's just say the last apartment I lived in was chosen because of it's proximity to Peet's, enough said. The point is, I hope the managers and mucky mucks in corporate see this so they know how amazing their staff is. After my favorite cafe closed years ago, I have been on a hunt to find a new favorite. Got a large latte and it was reasonably tasty. Nice amount of tables and friendly staff, honoring a $1 off coupon even though they didn't have the specific item. Friends and I spent a nice few hours on a rainy Saturday afternoon here and it was a great place to chill-open layout & quiet. Also, the tables outside look like they'd be great for people watching on a sunny day. Overall, yes it's a chain, but if I wanted coffee and was nearby, would not hesitate to come back. read more

Good and fast service! Can't comment on other drinks since I am obsessed with green tea latte these days. My go to drink that I always get is iced unsweetened soy matcha green tea latte. Recently, I discovered that you can add extra scoop matcha green tea for extra green read flavor. Yum! Of course, the extra scoop of green tea and soy have an additional charge. The staff at this location as been really nice and helpful. There's not too many indoor seatings but there are some additional outdoor seatings. Street parking is hard to find sometimes but I like to come to this location when I am in the area dining. read more

This location has the most amazing patio setup for an early breakfast. If you go on a Saturday, plan to spend a leisurely time watching people at the farmers market go by. I used to go to Starbucks until I discovered Pete's. The quality is far batter for the Same price and the espresso seems to be stronger. The beans they use have different variations of taste while Starbucks uses the same beans for practically all their coffee. This store has friendly staff who remember my name and order every time I walk in. Much more enjoyable inside then the Starbucks that is a block away. I strongly strongly recommend if you're a coffee fan or someone who's starting out drinking coffee. read more

I love this place, go to Saturday farmer's market then stop in for coffee. Today, not so much. They had restroom locked, for it wasn't clean?, no sign on door. 3 people waited for 20 mins, knocking on door, look for key but nothing. Then asked, was told was closed (no sign) for something was wrong with it. The customers left. Then staff came and said just needed cleaning. When I say should have had a sign, was told the key was there they just didn't look, then I said yes they did look, she just dissappear. Not cool. read more

My husband and I used to go to a diff coffee shop each morning, but for various reasons, switched to this location off of J St. We have really loved our experiences here the past few months. All of the coffee and tea drinks have been great (as expected at Peets chains) and the staff are all hella nice. Sheldon is our favorite employee there. It's such a pleasure to see a friendly face each morning before we get our caffeine fix lol. The location is always clean and they serve the coffee up quickly which is necessary for us as we are always there before work. I go to several Pete's in the area but love this location. It's so pleasant. I always went here when they had the newspaper and magazine shop next door. Now I go to the one on S Street near the Safeway so that I can get my SF Chronicle at the grocery store with my coffee in one stop. So, please, carry the SF Chronicle, Pete's Coffee on 20th at J, so that I can go back to this location for one-stop service. I loved my Sunday mornings there. read more

The coffee is pretty good too, I had a pumpkin latte although I have had a green tea latte in the past and I think I like that one better. Dear Peet's Coffee in Midtown. Please do something to get rid of the annoying solicitors who stand in front of your store to hassle customers for money. It is a rare day to visit this location and not be accosted by some wacko with a clipboard trying to get cash for the popular cause of the day. Half of these guys are fraudsters anyways. They never come right out and say "give me money," there's always some hokey pickup line to try to bait once compassionate people like myself to stop. Seriously, we come here to buy a cup of coffee, and to get a moment of peace outside of work. We don't appreciate being hassled both on the way in and on the way out. Today, I was actually followed all the way back to my car by a particularly aggressive clip board solicitor. Creepy. Your coffee is great. Your pastries are delicious. Your efficient and attentive staff keeps the line moving quickly. The day I see one of your employees trying to shoo these people away is the day you'll get your 5th star. My first time here, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere and service. They had small samples of their lentil salad while I was there to order a small vanilla latte, so I tried some and that was pretty good. It's clean and has seating outdoors where you can people watch and sometimes be entertained by a man dressed in a cape across the street singing along with his boombox, (free live music). ;) I have dinner around that area often, so I'm pretty familiar with the location. This is my favorite Peet's in town. It actually feels like a real coffee shop, not just another chain location crammed into local businesses. Nice and big, with a great patio area overlooking the Midtown strip. On top of that, the coffee is better, stronger and cheaper than Starbucks. But every time I come in here, I can't help but wonder if this Peet's has an ongoing feud with "Original Pete's" across the street. It only makes sense that they would. read more

The coffee is as good as you can expect, but like Starbucks, they keep the interior temperature very cold even on cool days. This results in frequently colder temp inside than outside. If you are staying the the coffee house, this means your hot drink gets cold quickly. read more
