This place was a great stop while visiting Temecula. We were greeted by friendly staff. It was busy, but we were sat immediately! Our server (Savannah) was awesome! She made some suggestions as it was our first time there. My husband had the Penfold Omelette and I had the Country fried steak and eggs. Oh wait....Savannah talked us into starting off with a cinnamon roll which was HUGE! We sampled it and then decided we would enjoy it when we got home later as we didnt want to spoil our actual breakfast. Btw the cinnamon roll was absolutely delicious and sinful in the best way! Our food was delicious! Portions were plenty big enough! So big I think we both brought half out plates home to finish for a late lunch. Im not huge on leftovers, but it was all very good the second time around. There is much to look at in the restaurant and enjoy while eating. From pedal cars to stuffed animals to neon signs...seriously just a really cool little breakfast stop! Best place for breakfast in Temacula. It's very touristy because it's right next to the hotels but it's worth the visit. The inside is decorated with random blasts from the past items. Gives you a nostalgic feeling. The service is fast. The menu is diverse. They make everything from scratch. And they have a bakery selling pies and pastries. So I have lived in the area for about 4 years now and I only just found Penfold's Cafe about a 6 weeks ago, god I feel like I have been cheating myself out of awesome food for 3 years and 10 months I love, love LOVE Everything about this place. Service is A+, that's right I am talking about you Miguel. The decor makes me smile from the vintage Lone Ranger lunch box to the Picture of Captain Stubbing from Love Boat. BUT the best thing is.... The excellent food. I have only ever had breakfast but that is OK. This is a place where I wholeheartedly intend on slowly and methodically eating my way through the whole menu. We were heading for Denny's but while waiting for the light my husband spotted their bright green sign, he turned into their parking lot and the rest was history. This place was hopping! We can see many repeat regular customers. The place had a very homey ambiance, like grandma's house but bigger. We can tell the wait is long judging the number of people sitting )and standing) in the waiting area. So when outside seating with no wait was offered, we said yes! Lisa was our server and very helpful, not to mention patient. Hubby ordered the Tractor special and I zoomed in on the Chorizo with eggs. This place delivered when I ordered well done hash browns. This place was highly recommended from a boss of mine in Las Vegas and close by where we were visiting a few weeks ago. So, my wife and I decided to give it a shot along with a few others in tow. Love the place with its esthetics and that whole diner feel to it. The bakery, wow! This place is dangerous for me....the size if those cinnamon rolls! A diabetics dream....and nightmare. The customer service is top notch and fast! I think we were in and out in less than 35-40 mins. I ordered their 3 egg breakfast with side of biscuits and gravy. I'm a huge glutton for a good biscuit and gravy and was told that it was not to disappoint. I will say that the gravy was delicious, thick, and hearty. The biscuits....eh. They were just too dry for me despite the generous amounts of gravy on top. Too crumbly and just not enough moisture to my liking....but that's just me and I can be pretty picky when it comes to B&G. My wife ordered the crab omelette. She really liked it. The only criticism she had was the crab itself was relatively sparse. They could have put more inside and/or equally portion the meat thought the omelette as opposed to just mainly one side. If ever in the neighborhood, I would definitely eat here again and try other dishes here. Great ambiance and service. Could easily have been an off-day. The price range is definitely really reasonable. 4 adults and a child ran about $100 with more than enough food. Worth a stop through! read more

We found Penfold's by accident. We went there last Wednesday morning for breakfast. Couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were plus the quantity of food you received. The staff are the dream team of restaurant workers! We were so impressed that we went back the next morning. The restaurant owner was making his rounds and stopped by to say hey and wanted to know how the food was. His son, the manager also came by to ask how everything was and to see if we needed anything. Oh if you drink coffee or anything else. You need to keep an eye on your cup, because it will never be empty. The staff really worked together as a team. Now the only complaint I can come up with, they close at 1400 hours. I almost forgot they have an awesome lunch menu. I think I will have their fried chicken lunch the next time we are in town . 2022.04-10/SUN_1100: Love this place. Walking in was life was like walking into a time capsule. I liked the ambiance which included the music, the decor and the staff. You have the old school, southern hospitality feel. We had a large party so we did have to wait a bit to be seated. They also had outdoor seating as well. The decor consisted of toys dating back to the 1950s and up. It was great to see all the toys that made everyone smile before technology was even a thing. There was even a Merry Go Round carousel horse in the waiting area. They had bookshelves that housed plush bears, toys and candy. There was even a huge gumball machine right when you walk in. The music was the best! They were playing all the hits from the 60's, 70's, and the 80's. All easy listening. It just brought me back to being a kid. Our server's name was Lisa and she was great. She was very attentive and nailed every order. You can tell she was well-seasoned because she didn't skip a beat. She knew every item in the menu and didn't hesitate or miss a thing. Our drinks were always topped off and every condiment was in the table so we didn't have to ask. Wow, for the prices, the portions were more than enough. We had to take home our food. Oh goodness...the biscuits were insane. No words can describe their biscuits. The consistency was indescribable. It was flaky and light on the outside and buttermilk light on the inside. They melted in your mouth and never in my many years of living an being from Virginia, have I ever tasted a biscuit like this. There were no hard crust on the biscuit. It was all melt in your mouth soft, all the way around. Too hard to explain. Just get a side of biscuits and gravy (some entrées come with a choice as a side) and you won't be able to eat your entrée! Check out my pictures to see how huge a side of biscuits and gravy are. You should see the size of a cinnamon bun....it was as big as my head! You can order one bun for a party of four and you won't go wrong. Everyone's order came out fantastic. My Steak and Eggs came with a side fruit. You can have a choice to have a side of hashbrowns if you want or a side of biscuits and gravy. Most of the entrées came with a side or two. Like I said, you won't go wrong. I had gotten fruit with my entrée and the Mister had gotten the biscuits and gravy as a side so we can share and you'll DEFINITIVELY need help! The side of biscuits and gravy will be able to feed 2 people, easy! What's great is that they have brunch cocktails as well so you can get your Bloody Mary's and Mimosas! The Bloody Mary is dressed with a huge piece of celery and a slab of bacon! I didn't take a picture of it because it wasn't my drink! LOL I had a decaf coffee! There's so much to choose from on the menu, that you're bound to have several favorites. Just know, whatever you choose, you won't be disappointed. So I was told the Corned Beef Hash was delicious and their Chicken and Waffles were also good. They looked delicous and I tried to take pictures without being so rude because all of us were hungry! If you are looking for a fun diner vibe, this is definitely a great spot for you! Honestly, it's hard to come by a good diner in CA these days, and I still think this places hits all the notes! The ambiance is fun and cool but also comfortable typical of what you would find at a "classic" diner. Service was also a highlight. One note, you may want to get there early for breakfast/brunch, as it can be a wait sometimes up to an hour or more. Food is great here! Good portion size and very flavorful. Forget the fancy breakfast places! I was headed to one of those places but when the line was out the door I decided to look elsewhere. Here comes breakfast! Penfold's Cafe is located right of the 15 highway so it's easy to stop at for anyone travelling via Temecula. It's looks really cool inside with all the decorations around the dinner. Everything looks clean and very cohesive. There is sitting inside and outside so getting a table shouldn't be an issue. Mind you, it's a very popular place so there maybe a short wait time depending on how big your party is. It took us around twenty minutes to get a table so not bad at all. The menu is good. You can find here anything and everything breakfast wise. I really liked that they offer their own signature dishes. You won't miss them as they made sure that those dishes stand out when you read the menu. They are also famous for their salsa. We had a side of it and it didn't disappoint. I haven't had salsa like this before. We ordered jalapeño poppers, omelettes, and sweet potato pancakes. The food arrived fairly quickly and it was tasty. Machaca dish was okay. It needed some fresh tomato salsa. Also, extra helping of rice and refried beans would help to elevate the dish a bit more. The hero was extra crispy hashbrown. My favourite was the potato pancakes with maple syrup! The seasoning reminded me of pumpkin pie. Yummy! The service was quick and friendly. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. My buddy and I ordered the Temecula Special, which is the Pastrami with Sauerkraut, mustard, on Rue with a side of pickle. Can't go wrong with this sandwich, it is the best in town. Paired my sandwich with a tall grapefruit juice, perfect pairing. The ladies and the kids are all happy with their blueberry pancakes, fried cheese sticks, hamburger, and their regular eggs and bacon. The coffee is very good. The service is very good, our server Lauran is very good, fast, attentive, with a very pleasing professional attitude. One of the best server we had for awhile. An asset to Penfold's. Penfold's is an adorable family owned/operated diner at the edge of Old Town Temecula. Stepping in and looking around at all the decor takes you back to another era! There's a carousel horse, vintage lunch boxes, toys and a big ole gumball machine. We stopped in for a late Saturday morning breakfast recently. While they were fairly full, we were greeted and seated right away. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. We ordered the Penfold omelette and a tuna melt. I love tuna melts but the quality and taste of tuna salad varies so widely among diners/restaurants - many times, there's way too much mayo for my taste. Penfold's tuna salad was great, with just the right amount of seasoning and mayo. The sourdough bread was very thick and I ended up eating it open-faced, and there was only the tiniest amount of cheese which was ok for me. But overall, the great taste of the tuna salad and the super crisp fries, made it a winner meal. My husband loved his omelette and crispy home fries. He asked for the country gravy on the side just to try it. It didn't look very appetizing (a sad, pale color)...and wasn't, so he relied on ketchup instead. Our waitress Leah was very attentive and pleasant. When we were checking out, it was fun to see the crazy gigantic cinnamon and sticky buns in the front case that look like they'd feed an entire family. Super reasonably priced, too. I went to Penfold's Café because I wanted a comfort food breakfast. This restaurant provides that. It's almost hidden at the southernmost end of Old Town, so you have to know it's there. As a result, it tends to cater to the locals who are mostly an older crowd. This means that once you walk in the door, you are in the 1950s. You do not worry about cholesterol, alcohol with your breakfast, or dessert carbsthese issues do not exist yet. The first thing you see once you're in the door is their bakery counter. It's filled with all sorts of goodies, and your resolve to diet is quickly going out the door that you just entered. If your resolve holds until you get to the table, you will know that they make an incredible cinnamon bun that you can't live without, crispy waffles with fruit, blueberry muffins, and we haven't even gotten to the entrées yet. I enjoy omelettes. My favorite is a spinach, mushroom and cheese omelette, which is wonderful. Even better with the side of hollandaise sauce! Their biscuits and gravy is a meal in itself, and you probably won't be able to finish it. It's big! and the waffles are crispy and cook ed just right. and if you are into breakfast Meats or Paleo, they've also got you covered with steak, bacon, ham, and even corned beef hash. Nobody will judge you if you wanna drink with your breakfast. And when I've been there in the past, lots of people weren't being judged (wink! Wink! They also have a little patio area adjacent to the parking lot. On a windy day, it can be rather cold and dusty. Otherwise, it's a nice kind of quiet place to have brunch with your family or friends My only negative experience ever was that I ate on the patio one time, and so got my dog a hamburger patty, which I frequently get her when she accompanies me out to breakfast. The going rate is usually $3.50 to $4.00. I didn't ask so the fault is on me, but Penfield's charged $8.00, which I thought was ridiculously high. I was really hungry and wanted something simple & somewhere convenient to park in congested old town area of Temecula. On the corner, it was a quick return to the 15 freeway. I was ever so grateful as I was in a hurry to beat traffic. I figured soup would be easy & quick. It's a bakery as well so as I was leaving I decide to order at giant Sticky Pecan roll. Huge. Well, it just didn't taste as fresh as I hoped. Disappointed. Bit on the tough side. I know it's Covid recovery and small restaurants really have to do what they can. I try to support them.
