We were very lucky to stumble across this place in our quest to find an Italian restaurant. It's a very casual experience where you order at the counter. Prices are reasonable and food was served extremely fast. The various pasta dishes we had were outstanding. Even our picky toddler commented that it was "delicious" (I've never heard him use that word). Definitely recommend visiting this place. read more

Definitely a spot for locals because they were served first. My wife and I were here few weeks back and called in advance with questions about vegetarian options. Very helpful and several different options. Staff was nice but really poor service and low quality food. We ordered baked butter nut squash for appetizer which was good. Entrees were two pasta dishes. Sauces were not flavorful and both pastas were way over cooked. Nothing worse than mushy pasta. We were there before the 3 local couples that ordered after us. All were served well before we were. No mention from the staff there would be a wait or why things took so long. Quality of the pasta dishes was less than we could have done by going to the grocery store and buying things on our own. Gave 2 stars instead of 1 because they were helpful with vegetarian selections. Worst meal in Maui over the 6 days we were there. read more

Good tasting Italian food at a reasonable price. The calamari and cheesy garlic bread was incredible. Was really impressed with how quickly they brought out our food. I don't understand the great reviews. my husband and I went here because it looked like a reasonably priced place to eat. after ordering buffalo wings with no meat on the bones we realized we were in for it. I order fettuccini Bolognese. it was tomato paste with chili powder and a clump or two of meat. and the portions were so small we had to get go elsewhere to get dinner. he got chicken parm over pasta. his sauce was ok, I guess. the place had a dirty feel to it. it didn't LOOK dirty, but my chair and table were sticky. no thanks. read more

We have always liked Penne Pasta. Good, not great Italian at a very fair price. Bright and clean inside, good service, close to Front St , free parking. The owner is super friendly, always remembers us on our annual visit. We always eat there two or three times on our visit. Really good for the price. read more

We come here every year! Although the inside of the restaurant is on the warmer side, the food is never a disappointment. I usually get the Spaghetti with baby Calamari, Fettucine Alfredo, and Linguini Clam Sauce pastas. Good place for lunch or dinner, especially after coming back from an all day activity at the Lahaina Harbor or casually walking around town. Went here for lunch based on Frommer's review. It was one of the best meals we had in Lahaina. Good menu variety. We had the margherita pizza, spaghetti pomodoro, chicken ceasar salad, roasted beet casserole, garlic cheese bread. Everything was tasty and fresh. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Service was friendly and efficient. Easy to find, a couple of blocks off the main street. Casual atmosphere. Penne Pasta Cafe has dishes that fit the worst stereotypes of Italian cuisine: lots of garlic, marinara sauce everywhere, cheese on fish (a big no-no in Italian cuisine), overcooked pasta. Excellent food and friendly staff. Great food selection. We are vegetarians and they had a boat load of items on the menu for us. Prices were very reasonable and loved the food. We were staying at Keihei and had a 40 min drive to get there but in the end the food was very much worth the drive. We are planning to go again for lunch another day this week. read more

Save your money! The food is horrible! I had the linguine with clam sauce. It was disgusting! The clams were canned and the sauce was watery. We waited 45 minutes for our food and by the time it arrived I was starving. I took no more than 5 bites, and just couldn't eat it anymore. I ended up getting a salad at the grocery store on the way home, which cost $6 and it was FAR superior to my $12 pasta. I give the place ZERO stars! read more

They really make an effort here to accommodate people. In addition to all the italian basics, you can request non-dairy cheese to make your dish vegan; whole wheat bread; or gluten-free pasta. While visiting Maui, this was our only dinner in Lahaina since we spent most of our time in Kihei. After eating so much great food in Maui, I expected Penne Pasta Cafe to be just as good since 1) I love pasta and 2) my friend, a Maui-raised girl raved on and on about the sizzling squash... Well, I guess my expectations got ahead of myself. Not as great as I expected. While I ordered the chicken picatta (my must try at every Italian restaurant we go to), my hubby got the bolognese, and my daughter got the spaghetti. We also got the garlic cheese bread and sampled the sizzling squash. All of it was pretty average. Nothing spectacular, but nothing horrendous as well. A big indication that this place served just ordinary food was the fact that the most memorable thing we ate was the garlic bread. As far as the service... let's just say that the cashier wasn't the most pleasant woman I've come across. To be polite, I'll just leave it at that. Penne Pasta's only redeeming quality was it's quaint, cafe-ish atmosphere. read more

Love this restaurant. Food is good price is great! I have had several dishes here and never have been disappointed. Love the roasted pumpkin topped with slivered almonds too. Great side dish. They also have dairy free pizza for those who miss cheese. Pasta sauces are so tasty.. You won't be disappointed in the food.
