Long overdue review. This place was a bright shiny spot in my horrific day and I'm so thankful. I had purchased a new Bosch battery from Pep Boys less than a year prior to this incident....but was experiencing battery drain, and was getting stuck needing a jump. I took out my battery and brought it over for testing. Turned out battery was charging but all the cells were bad, so it couldn't keep the charge. Well, it was a 3-year free replacement battery, but they couldn't find my purchase record in the computer, I was about to flip my lid. But the manager on-duty just handled it for me and I was off and running. I tell everyone to get their auto needs at this Pep Boys. I was so grateful and feel so much appreciation for this gesture. It was a breathe of fresh air....and so unexpected. Thank you Pep Boys. I'm a customer at your store as long as that manager is on your team! read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I just wanted a simple oil change but did not have a lot of time. I made an appointment for today at 12:00pm and showed up at 11:45am. stood waiting for a guy that was on phone but he never did help me. another guy cam over and I let him know I had an appt. He asked if I was dropping off and I said no I was waiting. He then said it would be 2-3 hours? I let him know when I made the appt yesterday on line it said 1 hr wait. He said yah but on line cant see what jobs they have going for the day and it was a glitch. I was angry.... he could care less when I told him i could not wait 3 hrs. so I left....to make things even worse I receive an email on my way home saying pep boys was sorry that I missed my appointment. Are you kidding me ? what a joke this place is, and while i was there another customer had just purchased new wiper blades that he had pep boys install and he drove less than a mile away and the blade flew of his car. Forget the actual date i came in to get an oil change, but here's how i spent one day @ this Pep Boys in Orange: - came in about 11am, looking for an oil change. - was told it would take about a half-hour to 45 minutes to get to it because they had a couple of cars ahead of me. - That's fair. so figured 'no problem, i'll just have lunch next door and come back'. - walked over two or three doors to a chinese food joint and ate. - just before noon, walked back to check on progress. Was told "it'll be awhile", and was invited to take a seat in the 'customers lounge' (a small room with that 'new rubber tire smell' and about six chairs in it). - saw no less than two other cars come into a couple of open bays and watched people work on them through the glass. - saw no less than two people walk in OFF THE STREET and buy either some tires or shocks (one i believe needed a new battery). Watched as their cars came into THE SAME BAY NEAR THE GLASS to be installed. - during this whole time i had small conversations with a couple of the mechanics that kept coming in and out of the room as they dealt with work orders and paperwork for the cars they were working on. So they KNEW i was there to get work done. - finally realized it was 2.45pm and i had to start getting back to work (was working a split-shift at the time). - i asked to see who was in charge. Was told "he's busy". At this point, i said to the guy; "Sorry, but I'm busy too. You've had my car for well over 3 hours for an oil change. I've been here since just after 11am. I have to get back to work now. I need my keys back and i'd like to talk with your manager." The guy actually blinked and just stood there for a moment. He recovered and asked 'which car is yours, sir?' I calmly described it and even pointed it out. He said, "i think it's next, sir. it'll only be a half-hour to get it done, sir" "But the problem is, i have to get back to work. You've had my car for my whole break. I have to be back to work in Fullerton by 3.30, i really have to go now." Finally found the manager and quickly explained the situation. For some odd reason, having my car for some three-and-a-half hours for an oil change didn't seem abnormal for him. He asked one of the service guys to get my car for me. Another guy came in and announced that my car was NOW in the bay, ready for service. I asked the main service guy for my keys, explaining that it was now too late to do anything with the car. He got into my car, started it, and REVVED the engine so high, i thought he was going to pop a gasket. He did this for a good 15-20 seconds, then let it down to idle, backed up the car out of the bay, got out, handed me my keys, saying nothing to me and walked back inside. As a kid, i used to work at a well-known auto service & tire store after school. I realize they get busy and can't get to every car as it comes in (they're NOT Jiffy Lube). But to treat a customers' engine like that is NOT appropriate. i will NOT go back to a place that treats my car like that. Next day i called the manager and repeated the events to him. He didn't seem to care. Apparently, once you turn over your keys to Pep Boys, your car becomes THEIR property - and they'll damn-well do whatever they want with it. count me OUT! read more

Pep Boys is Pep Boys. It's a place for boys, or for super cool girls who actually know a lot about cars. I am neither, and I don't really care. However, I must note that this Pep Boys was fairly clean and... When my boyfriend went inside, I remained outside with the dog. Then we got bored of waiting, so on an off chance, I stuck my head in and asked, "Can I bring my dog in?" THEY ALLOW DOGS. I might just go to Pep Boys more often now, as I now only frequent places that let me take my dog inside. Anyways, just wanted to share. If you have a dog, don't leave it in the car. Take it inside, because it's apparently allowed. read more

I have been coming here for years. The Service Department here is awesome. I have 6 vehicles and all have had work done here. I am a car enthusiast and have no problem trusting them with my babies. I have a '03 Cobra and '90 Gmc show truck among my collection and both are nicely customized with superchargers and the latest power mods. These guys have problem solved more then one "gremlin" over the years. I don't feel I am getting ripped off with un-needed repairs and I know a thing or two about cars... Today I learned that there are good people in the world from Pep Boys today. I had an appointment at 4 pm for an oil change and they were very professional and got me done in about an hour. But not only that. But I was having one of the most difficult days and while I was waiting couldn't help but cry because of personal issues. The staff, especially Diego who helped me check out was so very kind. And wanted to make sure I was okay. He even suggested to wait in the waiting room till I was okay to drive. And he even followed up with a call to make sure I got home safely. With one of the most difficult days I've ever endured, this young man Diego reminded me that there are kind people still in this crazy world. He went above and beyond and can't thank him enough. Additionally coming to Pep Boys was also like $30 cheaper than going to Jiffy Lube for the same service!!! Thank you Diego and Pep Boys for turning my day around. This place is a joke. Do NOT go here under any circumstances. Took my Civic in for brakes, oil change and a check engine diagnostic. After charging me $130 for the diagnostics, they told me I needed a new catalytic converter blah blah blah. And that my rear brakes needed changed, but my fronts were okay. I had them do my rear brakes while it was there. One week later, I took it to the Honda dealership & also a local friend's shop who specializes in Japanese cars. They both told me my front brakes were at less than 5% and needed replaced immediately. The check engine was due to an ENTIRELY different issue, and no mention of a catalytic converter was ever made. All issues were fixed at less than half of the bill Pep Boys had estimated. read more

I had gone to an Autozone shop nearby to get a new replacement bulb for my headlights but they told me to go to a mechanic shop to get it put it in. I came to this Pepboys and Chris was so helpful. He helped me replace the bulb. Had I known that they did this here before hand, I would have just come here to begin with. Much better service and experience. Bad service and execution, went in for a battery came out with damage. Employee did not listen to understand, interrupted before knowing the situation and on three different occasions claimed ignorance on a subject only he was involved in, and did not take ownership on actions of the store. Another admitted they would fix the problem the cheapest way possible (which I understand the need to do it economically) but I'd have more confidence if they committed to get the job done right after it was their error. Go to the one on Lincoln before the 57, they are professional, thorough and had great follow thru everytime. read more

Called to ask about getting my brakes replaced. Not sure what it cost or how long it takes as it is my first time needing this service. After being on hold for a couple mins, someone answered the phone and hung up. Honest mistake, I thought. I called right back. Phone was answered by Chris. He told me what the brake packages start at. As I proceeded to ask another question, I was hung up on again. I understand they must be busy but this is unacceptable. What a rip off. I scheduled to have my headlight bulb replaced which will cost $20 each light. So the mechanic said I need the HID bulbs for my car. Ok so then I went to buy them at their store and priced matched them from walmart which was $99 per bulb at their store and walmart was $69 per bulb. So the reason I bought them was because I wanted them installed today. Then I go back to the manager so I can get them installed, and now he says "oh you didn't tell me they are HIDs, its going to cost $100 per bulb." I was like how u gonna charge me $20 per bulb to $100 per bulb? So I said I will go somewhere else. What a waste of time!! Never going back there ever. read more

It is rather unfair that I have to give this Pep Boys a star at all - so please note that I could not write a review without one. I had an appointment to add freon to my Jeep at Pep Boys for 11 a.m., the estimate was roughly $220 and would take 3 to 4 hours to finish so I was anxious to get started. But no one was available to take my car, so I waited and waited... finally huffed and puffed until someone asked if I had been helped, it was 11:35 a.m. The repair guy finally said, "Someone will be with you in a minute." I said, "That's what you said 20 minutes ago." "We're really busy," he replied. "We only have two guys working today." "Then you must be too busy to keep your appointments?" I retorted. The guy continued working with the customer for another minute and then said he was done, customer signed and walked out. The repair guy flipped through paperwork, typed on the screen while I turned my back and waited for him to call me forward. A few minutes later, I turned back around to see what was taking so long and the guy had disappeared without a word! After another 10 minutes, a cashier clerk noted I had not yet been helped and eagerly sought a manager but by this time I decided if they couldn't get it together enough to keep their appointment time with me, Pep Boys should not work on my car. Completely annoyed, I looked around for the guy and a cashier type clerk saw me and asked, "Have you been helped?" "No," I replied. "I've been here waiting and I had an appointment but it seems like you guys are too busy to honor your appointments." "I'll get a manager," the clerk offered. "Save it," I said as I walked out the door. "If you're so short staffed that you can't keep an appointment, then I don't want you to work on my car." Frustrated that I had wasted my time. I got into my Jeep and headed to AutoZone to see what they said about adding freon to my car. I'd say get it together to Pep Boys, but actually I should thank them. Because of their inept team, I went to AutoZone and in less time than what I wasted waiting at Pep Boys for my appointment, I had cold air and saved $150 to boot. I give them 3 stars because they fixed my tire repair fairly quickly however I was charged 20$ for a tire plug. Actually they charged 10 and claimed I received 10$ discount for a rewards card that I never asked for. When I asked the guy at the desk " you charge $20 for a tire plug?" he responded yes and I said "that's terrible"... . his response was "I don't think so" I've had tires plugged by service stations and tire shops for $5. $20 is robbery. No longer do they carry self-serve parts and accessories, they have a mile long counter that stretches the width of the store. Now, we get to the counter and the dude "Richard" asks me what I need. I Proceed to tell him we need tires and show him a print out from their website which ones we want. He proceeds to tell me that they will be much more than the quoted price on the internet. THEN (get this!) he tells me straight faced that it will take 5 hours before we can pick the car up. I asked him WTF?? He said the chain was recently purchased by (drum roll please) CARL ICHAN!! Stay away !!! unless you are doing just an oil change, I would not trust them with anything else. My son's truck had a broken alternator belt and a small oil leak. He drives a Toyota pickup truck with the 22R engine. Once there, they told my son that the car had lots of problems with the engine and that it would not be worth fixing it. My son asked them to call me, they did. The guy on the phone told me that the car was a total mechanical loss ( or something like that)and that it would not be worth fixing the car. He suggested that I should sell it to pick a part or some similar car disposal service. I told my son to go back to Pep Boys and get the car and drive it to another mechanic I know that is really close by. The car was still drivable. Once he got there to get the car, the same mechanic that told me the car was a mechanical total loss, told my son he had a friend interested in buying the car and that he would give me a little more than what we would get for it if we junked it. My son called me and told me about the offer. I told him to get out of there as fast as possible. Long story short, the second place fixed the truck total cost $300.00 ( I asked for a couple of extra things to be done to the car... my suggestion). Car runs great. By the way the mechanic's friend called me on my cell asking if I would sell him the car. In my opinion these guys are very shady.....be aware !!! I had a nail in my tire and was needing all new tires since the tread was worn on mine. I zipped over to Pep Boys since they were the closest place. When I walked in and said that I needed new tires, the guy at the counter started complaining to me about how busy they were and about the fact that all anybody needed on that particular day were tires. That wasn't the frustrating part to me (if anything, it was actually a bit amusing). The frustrating thing was that he said my car would be ready within a few hours. I went home and waited a few hours without receiving a phone call. Eventually I called them myself. No answer. I got a call back a minute after hanging up, but there was nobody on the line. Long story short, they didn't contact me, I couldn't contact them, they closed shop for the night, and I was left without my car until the next day when I called them again and was able to get my car. I give three stars because of the fact that their disorganization kept me from getting my car back when they said I would. I would have given less stars, but they were apologetic and ended up taking about $70-80 off of my bill. read more

Richard and the team at PepBoys provide exceptional service. I came in at 6:45 with a flat tire, I had just purchased all new tires three months prior along with an extended warranty. Definitely worth the little bit extra to make sure if you get a flat they give you a new tire no problem. Richard was working by himself with only a few technicians in the shop and they still took care of me. I highly recommend buying your tires, brakes, or anything else you need from these guys.
