The veal and house salad were delicious. The lemon sauce on the veal was *chef's kiss*. (Not pictured was the $19 Negroni. It was good but I think I'll opt for wine over a $19 cocktail next time. They don't list the prices on their cocktails so this is more of a note to self on that point). The red wine (Vitiano Rosso) definitely does the trick. The halibut looks realllly good, I may try that next time. The patio is divine. Can't beat it.

We've morphed to Italy. This was a very fun lunch and we didn't get kicked out. Typically, they don't let us in a nice spot. Too many shenanigans. This is an elevated and elegant spot. We had a little wine for lunch. The halibut and all of its buttery glory is the best thing on the menu! #stlouispescatarianappproved Protip: keep some bread to sop up the sauce that comes on the halibut. They call that "Fare La Scarpetta" in Italy, showing appreciation by not wasting the sauce. My friends got some flesh, the carpaccio, and they seemed to enjoy it. The service was fantastic. So much fun.

From the moment you walk past the patio and into Pepe's you're transported to Italy! A very elegant setting awaits you. White linen table cloths, flowers and chandeliers! Mark our server was wonderful! He thoroughly explained the menu and course options. If you're ordering multiple items they will take your full order at once and course it accordingly. A wide variety of apps, salads, pastas, meat and fish all served Italian style! Salads served cold on cold plates. A touch I love at restaurants! Everything was cooked to perfection. Love is seen in the dishes. Extensive wine menu and can order by the class or bottle. No cocktail menu is had but a fully stocked bar and Leo the bartender any delightful concoction can be made! We greatly enjoyed our evening here! Ideal for date night, girls night, or any special occasion!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in St. Louis. The vibes are unparalleled to any other place in St. Louis. The service is always incredible. If you want a cozy place that makes you feel like you went back in time, this is the place. The food is absolutely amazing!

Excellent experience. Wife took me here for my birthday. Service was attentive and personable. Indoor decor was classic, old school with the chandeliers. Food was great and lived up to the hype. Tried the snails, meatballs, veal saltimbocca, steak, pasta tenderloin, birthday panna cotta and tiramisu. Wine list was decent; had a couple of Super Tuscans on the menu. $30 corkage. Parking was easy. Pretty busy on a Wednesday night.

    Halibut special with string beans

I started with their house Cabernet Sauvignon and it was smooth. Slightly fruity and well balanced. We skipped ordering appetizers and went straight to ordering dinner. I went with an off menu special, halibut in a lemon butter sauce with string beans. The halibut was cooked nicely. I really enjoyed the lemon butter sauce. Sometimes the sauce can make the fish too rich but this was perfect. The string beans were cooked perfectly so they still had a slight crunch to them. Excellent meal! Our waitress did an excellent job. She stayed on top of everything. They have a parking lot on the back side of the restaurant and there's ample street parking too. Cozy restaurant with lots of character.

Peppe's is an absolute must eat restaurant in Kirkwood for a romantic setting. The service is 10 out of 10. If you love seafood, Veal, or pasta you cannot go wrong with their choices. I highly recommended getting the traditional two options for your best buck if you are on a budget. Their wine list is multiple pages long to choose from. I ended up with an old fashion that was excellent. My pick two ended up being the steak sirloin and the chef nailed the cook for medium rare. Highly recommend getting the salmon as it was my favorite from my parties order. We ended the night with cannolis. Yummmm they were warm and delish!

    Halibut special - outstanding!

Had a party of 15 here last night and it could not have gone better. Was a special occasion and Pepe's made it so special without any extra expense. The ambiance is so romantic and cozy and classy. Perfect for this occasion. Incredible night, incredible service, incredible food!

It turns out we've been driving past a Kirkwood treasure all this time. This is "upscale-casual" at its finest--professional and refined, but with a neighborhood heart. Service & Logistics The service here is exceptionally polished. From the friendly hosts to our knowledgeable server, everything ran like clockwork. We even had a visit from a gentleman I presume was the owner (likely Bob, who has been at the helm for decades). He didn't just "check-in"--he saw we needed a few items and personally took care of it. Pro Tips: * Reservations: Don't look for them on OpenTable. They use their own dedicated form on their website, which is simple and efficient. * Wednesday Wine: If you can, visit on a Wednesday. They offer half-priced wine bottles with your meal--a fantastic value for their extensive collection. Cocktails & Drinks The bar program here is excellent, and the bartender was friendly and engaging. * White Negroni (4.5/5): Though they may not have had Suze (the drink wasn't perfectly clear), the bartender absolutely nailed the flavor profile and balance. * Barrel-Finished Manhattan (4.5/5): Their use of an in-house barrel finish makes this classically executed cocktail a real standout--highly recommended for whiskey lovers. * Wine: They have an awesome selection. Definitely ask your server for recommendations! The Food: American Fare with a Global Twist * House Salad (4.5/5): You have to try their house dressing--it's a creamy garlic style that reminds me of the classic Mayfair Hotel dressing. It's incredibly tasty and a true St. Louis staple. * Blackened Grouper (4.5/5): As someone who loves Florida grouper, this hit the mark. Lightly blackened with a fresh mango salsa; vibrant and perfectly executed. * Rainbow Trout (4.25/5): The orange tarragon cream sauce is the star. It was perfectly balanced--enough to enhance the fish and rice without being "soupy." * Pilot House Chicken (4.5/5): A delicious, well-seasoned chicken breast. Savory, juicy, and very well-prepared. * Extras (5/5): They start you with lavash crackers and butter, and the hot, fresh rolls are dangerous. They even finish the night with powdered sugar cookies--a classic Sunset 44 touch. Dessert * S'more Cheesecake & Chocolate Martini (4.5/5): We opted for this beautifully executed, unique dessert. It was yummy on its own, but ordering a Chocolate Martini to accompany it was the perfect move. The Vibe: It definitely skews toward a more mature, quiet crowd. It's the perfect place if you actually want to hear the people you're dining with.

The salami, sausage and Braunschweiger. There was a buffalo chicken terrine that was different but good. Grain mustard aioli and house made pickles rounded out the board. There was a 20-30 minute wait so we found seats at the bar and ordered cocktails. Very good. Very strong. The Block is a great space. Tall ceilings, warm & inviting, perhaps a little low lighting for us challenged folks, but nice, easy to read menus made up for it. A busser brought us water and shortly behind him was Laura-Beth, (our server) with a big smile and menus. After explaining the menu, specials, and taking our drink orders she left us to think about our choices. The menu is a little limited but includes sandwiches as well as entrees including fish option.. Being a "butcher" restaurant we both opted for the ribeye, medium rare. The steak comes only with fries which I ordered while my date went for whipped potatoes. I also went for a side of spinach. We also split a Block Salad as a starter. Choosing to split the Block Salad was a good idea. It was more than enough for two. It was great version of a chopped salad with fresh greens, bacon, smoked ham, egg, house-smoked cheddar, tomatoes, red onion, dressed with just enough buttermilk dressing. Really enjoyed it and just the right amount of salad. Only criticism is not salt and pepper on the table. Probably by design but disappointing. Next came our steaks and sides. We both ordered medium-rare. Her steak was a little under but close enough. My steak was raw in the center. I should have said something but there wasn't so much it was inedible for me. Better under than over! The seasoned fries were good and the whipped potatoes very good were delicious. The fresh spinach was cooked perfect, but under seasoned. All in all, good sides. We finished with Irish Coffee and vanilla ice cream. Kudos to the staff A special thank you to our server Laura-Beth. You were spot on friendly, courteous, attentive, and made our evening great and not just good. Overall, a good place, A bit expensive but where isn't these days. Well worth a try if you haven't.

I also remembered seeing it featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so we figured it had to be worth a try. When we arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation. We didn't, but noticed a few open seats at the bar and asked if we could sit there instead. The two bartenders welcomed us right away and told us they would take good care of us throughout the evening. My wife ordered an iced tea, and I started with an Old Fashioned. For an appetizer, we ordered the Toasted Ravioli ($14), which is handmade in-house and filled with ground beef, ricotta, and pecorino romano cheese, served with marinara sauce. It's one of the dishes featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. For dinner, my wife ordered the Chicken Marsala ($23), and I went with the Bolognese ($17), made with veal, pork, red wine gravy, cresta di gallo pasta, stracciatella, and Calabrian chili oil. The toasted ravioli arrived looking great. I tried one without the sauce first. The fresh pasta didn't fry up quite the way I expected. It was more flaky than crispy, and I was hoping for a little more crunch. The filling was decent but could have used a bit more seasoning and flavor. The marinara sauce also had a bitterness to it that wasn't my favorite. When our entrées arrived, both dishes looked and smelled wonderful. Unfortunately, the flavors didn't quite live up to the presentation. My wife's Chicken Marsala had good flavor overall, but the side pasta was very gummy, and the sauce again had a bitter note that seemed to overpower the dish. My Bolognese was the biggest disappointment of the evening. When I think of Bolognese or a rich meat ragù, I usually expect a wider pasta such as pappardelle. The cresta di gallo pasta wasn't my favorite choice for the dish, and it also had a gummy texture. The sauce itself suffered from the same bitterness that we noticed throughout the meal. Looking back, I probably should have ordered the Carbonara once I realized the Bolognese wasn't being served with the type of pasta I was hoping for. Overall, the meal was okay, but it didn't quite meet the expectations we had after seeing the restaurant featured on television and reading the reviews. The service was excellent, and the bartenders did a fantastic job taking care of us. While this visit was a bit disappointing, there were plenty of other dishes on the menu that looked great, and I would be willing to give Anthonino's another try and order something different.
