I just had a lovely pho meal and was left feeling happily satisfied. I'm new to the area and this was my first Vietnamese food experience in LA. I'm used to my Vietnamese friends cooking for me and have gotten very picky because of them. We picked up our food to go and it was ready ten minutes after we got their. The vegetarian egg rolls were a little crunchy, which is how I like them. My chicken pho came with two whole bags of vegetables and the soup was separate from the contents. For an under $7 meal, the pho is a steal of a deal. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp/chicken/squid combo and liked it, but said it was a little bland. That's the only reason I can't give it five stars. We will be going back and he will be ordering the pho so he doesn't have to be jealous of my dinner. read more

This is our favorite Vietnamese restaurant to go to. Not elegant but a quaint place. Not close to our home either but worth the drive. Any of their phos are great. My favorite is Tai (beef flank). The egg rolls are tasty served with lettuce, cucumber, carrots and radish to wrap them with. The pork chop plate is delicious. If you're in the mood for fried fish they cook up a mean tilapia. For drinks they have a variety of smoothies, add boba if you prefer. read more

I will start off saying this place is good, great food. Today I went in for lunch with my boyfriend. We ordered but he got his pho first and I thought maybe the egg rolls took longer to make. Sadly they never did. The waiter never once bothered to check in with us, and when I tried getting his attention, he only walked past me. When it was time to pay, he ran to the back they had the bill ready, the owner or manager wasn't happy to hear I never got my food and was ignored. Pho was good but Bun bi thit nuong was not. Very little meet but filled with veges at the bottom. My husband was not happy that when he said he was not ready to order, the waiter still stood there which made him uncomfortable. I had the beef pho--it was fine. There are lots of better options elsewhere though. The broth had flavor, but not quite enough. The flavors tasted right, but also not quite there. The noddles were a little overcooked, but hopefully that was just a couple of batches and not the norm. The meat was the same as almost every other place. It was affordable, and the portion generous. The cha gio (fried rolls) also tasted decent. Our batch was made with rice paper--not sure if that's standard practice at this place or not, since I saw some pictures with wheat flour wrappers. The rice paper is how they're usually made in Viet Nam, and makes the cha gio a little chewy. I liked the slight chewiness, but others may not if they're used to the other type of wrappers. The cafe sua da (iced coffee with milk) was good. It was made the traditional way (the only way it should be made!), with a filter that lets the coffee drip slowly into your cup. It was moderately strong, which can be good or bad depending on your preferences. The place was always packed the few times I walked past, and was packed when we ate there. Decor was non-existent, and so was service (which was quick, but nothing else). I didn't care at all, and service plays no factor in this review. Not the place to go if you want to be doted upon or have a romantic date though. read more

I love this place! Their menu is huge and they have tons of boba drinks! I've tried many things off the menu and enjoyed all but I usually get the #1 pho or #52 vermicelli with egg rolls (My favorite things here which I highly recommend) The food is always fresh and tasty which I appreciate, the parking is usually fine, and the place is always busy but it's never a problem to find a seat. The servers are very nice and the ambience isn't bad. There is music playing, tvs on, and plenty of smiley, happy people. There isn't anyone checking on you throughout the meal to see if you need anything and you have to go to the counter to pay after the meal so that's why the 4 stars. I do recommend you try this place atleast once! I'm sure you will enjoy it! read more

I was in the area and not particularly jazzed about Pho 999 but willing to give it a shot. Perhaps the other pho place a few blocks away would've been a better choice. Having only ordered beef pho with rare steak (no tendons or tripe) and a water, my review focuses on the pho. I was not impressed with the broth itself. The little bits of grizzle-grime that may have been from the bones were a big turn-off. The meat wasn't my cup of tea and I left it in the bowl. With my eyes clothes, the broth tasted only satisfactory. Bottom line: I most likely wouldn't return to try other dishes given that the pho was lackluster. However, I'm looking forward to trying some of the other pho places around town recommended by Yelpers. read more

If you are seeking PHO and had to pick between the two Pho's (Pho 999 vs Pho So Mo) on Sepulveda Blvd - go with Pho So Mo on Reseda Blvd - go with Pho 999 However, there is one MUST TRY dish at the Sepulveda 999 - the Com Bo Luc Lac (i THINK its #86) - which is French style diced beef. It's seasoned with sauteed garlic bits (YUM) and grilled onions. It comes with rice, and I usually order a fried egg on top and chop it up in the rice. If you enjoy spicy, I'd recommend pouring a bunch of the Sriracha (aka D-Sauce) into the dipping soy sauce until it becomes thick (soy sauce is usually watery) and then drip that over your rice and egg and enjoy. I was impressed with the diversity of customer base as there wasn't t a single Vietnamese person in the restaurant, other than my friend and the workers. But come to think of it - maybe that's why there Pho doesn't taste as authentic. hit and miss. read more

I think it is worth mentioning that they close at 9:45, not 10. I know that all restaurants start closing up early, but they are completely closed and pressuring you to leave by 9:45. The pho is good, and though the bowl is smaller than at most similar places, you get the same amount of noodles, meat and veggies. And its only around $6 a bowl. My husband and I have been coming here the past year, sometimes twice a week and the food is always great. However, their employees seem a little pushy when it comes to service. Today we came in to have our pho and the place was packed. Cool, were going to wait because we know and like this spot. Not knowing we needed to take a number (cause we never have) 2 other parties joined in waiting after we were already there. The waiter comes to seat people and seated the parties who came after us because we didnt have a number. I was frustrated so we decided to leave and find a different place. I just wonder why no one bothered to tell him to grab a number, or at least recognize that we'd been waiting.. not to mention we had our baby with us too. Came here with a friend when we were looking for something that was still open after 11pm. The place is pretty big and is perfect for late night food/pho. We were seated as soon as we walked in and food came out soon after it was placed. Of course we ordered the pho, which was good. They also have lots of other options for those not interested in Pho. I will say the broth is a little bland and had to be flavored with hot sauce/fish sauce, but its not the worst thing. I'm not sure what the cut off time is, but after a certain time the appetizers are no longer available so be aware of that. I really wanted some spring rolls that night but couldnt get any. They also have a fun selection of drinks like coconut juice with pulp and great boba/smoothie options. I also liked the fish tanks they have with some interesting fish inside. I'd finally gotten curious about pho, so I went to Pho 999 because it was convenient at the time. It was late afternoon, so the place was pretty empty. I told the greeter that this was my first time having pho and I was hoping for a recommendation. He handed me the menu and kinda let me fend for myself. The menu had a lot of jazz on it, so it took me a while to figure out what the differences were between the various items. All restaurateurs should learn this: If someone comes in and says "This is the first time that I'm having [your style of food]" you might consider happily investing a few minutes to educate the customer and to get him/her excited about your cuisine. The customer may just be forever loyal to you. Okay, so my first takeout experience with pho was a good one. I was surprised when I opened the paper bag and saw a large bag of garnish. Alfalfa sprouts, basil, lime. Very cool. The portions were HUGE! Very satisfying. Loved the noodles. I also had a lemongrass chicken dish which was fantastic. The prices were quite reasonable. I returned a second time a few days later to treat my sweetiepie to her first Pho experience. Food was good again, but I got a second whiff of their service skills and I less impressed. Again the joint wasn't crowded but the servers were sort of apathetic and didn't seem motivated to be cheerful. I want to stress that the flavor was excellent and the portions were good, but because of the lackluster service, I'm pretty sure I'll go somewhere else when I get a craving for pho. read more

Soup base tastes GREAT! The menu seems overwhelming, but seriously...they're all the same noodle soup, just different combination of meat. The order arrives SUPER FAST....makes everywhere else seem extremely slow. however, I am a little disappointed by the spring rolls. Years ago, it was loaded with shrimp and pork. Now, I can't even see the pork. I don't mind the extra lettuce and mint. But please...less filler. Service isn't the greatest. I don't mind. Good cheap food with super fast service. I dont recommend going there after 9pm, they are washing floors with pungeant cleaning stuff that overwhelms the food.
